@ShiningStarz I’m planning on getting a next to me crib for upstairs in the bedroom then hoping to be able to use the bassinet from our pram system (I think we’ve settled on the bugaboo fox 2...) for daytime naps downstairs. I’ve been put off the sleepyhead style pod things because apparently they don’t conform to safe sleep guidelines - they’re too insulating and baby can overheat. Having said that this is my first baby and I have no idea what I’m doing šŸ˜‚

Lazydaisydaydream · 07/06/2020 15:18

@ShiningStarz do you have a dog? We do so I could never have my son sleeping on something on the floor for fear he'd get trampled on haha. My son either napped in the sling, on my chest or in a purflo nest (like a sleepyhead). Agree they are not safe for overnight or unsupervised sleep but was perfect for putting on the sofa or footstool for him to sleep in while I ate so I could have my hands free! I liked it as could move it out of the way quickly.

This time im planning on naps in a sling or in the swing/rocker (if this baby will let me put him down haha). Not sure I'd trust my toddler not to pull the nest off the sofa to be honest Hmm

Lilice · 07/06/2020 15:19

@ShiningStarz I'll have the next2me upstairs for night time and the moses basket on a stand downstairs for daytime sleep. When baby outgrows the moses basket, I'll use the cot.

ShiningStarz · 07/06/2020 16:19

Thanks @pangolin84 that's really helpful. I also read the guidance on that lullaby site and NCT and like you say both websites said it was unsuitable for babies to sleep in the sleepyheads. I'v read people use them in a Moses basket or cot to help babies feel more secure and therefore settle better to sleep. But I also read they can overheat in sleepyhead and it's not safe. I love the look of the sleepyhead tho but I'v decoded now it's a definite no.

@Lazydaisydaydream I have a cat and no idea how she'll react to baby!!! I was tempted to use the pram bassinet but I think I'll just keep the Moses basket as it's on a sturdy stand.

@Lilice I think I'll match your plan 😊

There's just so many gimmick things you can buy for baby and a lot of it overpriced!! Thanks for the advice x

pangolin84 · 07/06/2020 17:12

Yes I’m finding it hard to navigate through what’s essential or not! And when we need to buy it... Luckily we have no pets so I can put the bassinet on the floor. Part of my persuasion tactic for spending so much on the pram was that it meant we didn’t have to buy an extra Moses basket.

Lilice · 07/06/2020 18:29

I agree there's so many tempting things to buy and a lot is overpriced, especially when you end up using it for a short time only. The swing/rocker I want to buy is 150 pound! I'm still hesitant because that's one thing you dont use for so long, but on the other hand it does make life so much easier in the early days.

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 06:11

@Lilice I know! The nuna leaf rocker I like is £200!! Crazy!! Think I'll get a cheaper one and the bright starts 5 in 1 playmat instead! I may wait until next month to order those!!

Roxy8203 · 08/06/2020 07:54

@ShiningStarz the leaf always seems to be on offer and lasts until the baby is about 4-5 so not a bad investment

Thanks @Roxy8203
I'm looking for nuna leaf grow rather than curv as-it has the newborn inset and states suitable from newborn.

Anyone else suffering with pregnancy rhinitis! I am fed up! I literally sneeze like huge proper sneezes about 50 times a day and starts as soon as I wake up (4am!!!). I'm exhausted.

Roxy8203 · 08/06/2020 11:00

Looks like they can both be used from newborn

That's interesting @Roxy8203 so the grow would last until their toddler.. but is it worth the extra money šŸ¤”
Did you get the wind and toy bar? Someone I know has recommended the joie sensa šŸ¤” too much choice!! Feeling pregnancy is dragging a bit now! Can't believe there's still 3 months to go šŸ™ˆ I'm so impatient!!

Lilice · 08/06/2020 12:57

Thats the one i would to get

www.samueljohnston.com/en/Joie-Serina-2in1-SwingRocker/m-4162.aspx

I have a code to get 10% but its not working. I need to call the website. In the meantime, I saw someone selling on Facebook for 50 quid! Used but like new. Fingers crossed they still have it!

Roxy8203 · 08/06/2020 13:03

@ShiningStarz I think they both last until they are toddlers. I didn't get the toys and wind but may look for wind on eBay and if there is a second hand one at a good price I'll get it.

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 13:08

@Lilice the joie sansa can be plugged in and used and also powered from batteries. Not sure about the joie Serina.
The nuna rocks for 2 minutes and then Youv to start it again which could be a pain especially for the cost of it. Decisions decisions!!

Lazydaisydaydream · 08/06/2020 16:58

@Lilice that's the one that we've bought! Luckily found a second hand one, friend of a friend and it's in amazing condition. We've had a play with it and it's great, being able to take the seat off for a separate rocker is great. And it doesn't take up as much space as I thought it would!

Lazydaisydaydream · 08/06/2020 16:59

@ShiningStarz the Serena can be plugged in or batteries for the swing function, but the vibration on the removable rocker chair is batteries only.

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 17:46

Great to know @Lazydaisydaydream I think it's the joie one for me! Feels like a better deal and saving on batteries the majority of the time!! Thanks ladies

Lazydaisydaydream · 08/06/2020 18:38

I have been getting such bad Braxton Hicks. Anyone else? I've got a consultant appointment on Thursday so will ask them about it. Have been bouncing on my ball which helps a bit!

Lilice · 08/06/2020 19:37

@lazydaisydaydream I'm so glad you have it and that you like it! Right, I'm definitely getting this one then. The person on Facebook never replied ☹ but I think it will be worth the money. I didnt know you could plug it in, it's even better! @ShiningStarz are you going to get the serena or the sensa?

Lilice · 08/06/2020 19:40

@Lazydaisydaydream I have never felt Braxton hicks. I remember when I was expecting my first, the midwife was examining me one day and touching my belly. She told me I was having them right then, but i couldn't feel a thing. What do they feel like? I've never even felt contractions on my belly. My first labour was all in the back, ouch!

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 20:22

@Lilice someone I know recommended the sensa. I haven't even read about serena!! I must do a bit of research and see, think they are both priced the same xx

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 21:40

@Lilice there are 2 serenade! The swivel and the rocker ..
Think I'm going to go with the Sansa. Can't believe it only lasts for 6 months!' Hope one of my friends has a baby and I can give it to them.

Lilice · 08/06/2020 21:59

@ShiningStarz have you checked gumtree or Facebook to see if you could get a second hand one? I'm going for the joie serena rocker, not the swivel. I like the rocker because you can take the seat off and use it separately. It's true it's a lot of money for a short time. I guess I'll sell mine afterwards if I'm lucky

ShiningStarz · 08/06/2020 23:28

@Lilice I'd be happy buying off a friend or friend of a friend but not a complete stranger. It just feels too weird. I'll keep checking and see if offer comes on by mid aug! Lots of time yet so no rush to buy. Thankfully saving with the lockdown! Defo saved about £50 a month just on coffee!! Let alone all the eating out and alcohol🤣
