@ShiningStarz he Packed:

-spare t shirt (after holding the baby when first born his t shirt was quite gross haha)

  • phone charger
  • wireless speakers to play music
  • camera
  • drinks (cartons of Ribena/lucozade etc)
  • snacks
  • his kindle
  • loose change for coffee machine
  • a present for the baby and a present for me (I didn't know he had these but they were a lovely surprise haha!)

The snacks and drinks were his responsibility and were shared. We could have done with twice as much though as I ended up staying in for two nights and the hospital didn't bother feeding me Hmm

Lazydaisydaydream · 25/06/2020 15:35

Oh and don't worry too much about breastfeeding... Remember the vast majority of people feed straight away without any issue, you just hear about the ones who need support more. I'd definitely recommend joining your local la leche league facebook page beforehand though so that you have someone to contact for support if needed. They were so helpful with me! Midwives are great but most of them don't have much specific breastfeeding training.

Sara7455 · 25/06/2020 16:17

My hubby had a bag too. There can be a lot of waiting around so snacks, phone charger and some kind of entertainment are a must I think. They started thinking about my section on the Sunday afternoon and it was 3pm Monday before they actually did it so I spent the best part of 24 hours with no food and limited water which was rough but also meant he was with me most of that time so it was good for him to have food and the iPad to watch Netflix as I was too hangry for chatting - ha!
For breastfeeding (Or expressing in my case) I found the maternity care assistants were actually way more helpful than the midwives with me- breastfeeding consultant came to see me today but he’s obviously 10 days old now

@ShiningStarz It wasn’t too bad shopping, I went to Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. No queues at all, got a few baby things. Best place to be was the Next home Store that’s nearby mainly because the air con was great 😂 Could of stayed there all day!

Lilice · 25/06/2020 19:31

Sounds lovely @emmy2020 what did you get for baby? I didn't have much luck today.
I went to asda and had a look at the baby section, hoping they would have neutral baby clothes but it was the complete opposite and they had even less than the last time I went to have a look.
I've also had an email from online4baby this afternoon saying that my order was delayed until end of July. I bought a bundle (cot, mattress, changing table) in April and they keep delaying it more and more each month 😱

Emmy2020 · 25/06/2020 19:55

@Lilice I got one of those baby sleeping bags, a Ewan deluxe sheep (heard good things about it do fingers crossed!) also got a big one of those pregnancy pillows you sleep with and can use for a nursing pillow after. Also some really lovely expensive muslins that were reduced just because the packaging was squished! Looked at all the clothes but actually got so many already so think I’ll be okay for now. Lovely to look round the shops again although didn’t realise how tired I would get walking around 😂 Ohno hope you get your furniture soon, that’s annoying! Do you have much left to get?

ShiningStarz · 25/06/2020 20:18

@Lazydaisydaydream he sounds like such a sweetheart!!! Too cute 😊
Yep iv contacted la leche league and I said I'd join their zoom calls from 30 weeks, that'll be next week!! Eeeek.

Awwww a little 10 days old!! So glad he's doing well @Sara7455

Sounds like a nice days out @Emmy2020
I'v been looking at next online everyday for plain white sleepsuits in newborn but they've been sold out for ages!! Hoping if I go shops in early August they'll have them in stock then 🤞🤞

sianyflewog · 25/06/2020 20:28

You’re so organised @ShiningStarz! I haven’t even thought about my bag, I think I finished packing it last time the night before I went to hospital 😂 I’m just going to get button down nighties for after my section - that’s what I had from Primark last time which I threw away, and I’ve still got one gorgeous one from Australia.

@Emmy2020 We have a Ewan the sheep and it’s so relaxing! This shuts off after 20 minutes, but the deluxe version I think has the sleep sensor so it comes back on. We also have a MyHummy bear - which does the same thing. H doesn’t want it anymore though so will give it to the new baby.

sianyflewog · 25/06/2020 20:28

Anyone who’s had the hba1c blood test for GD, did you fast before hand?

Chanel05 · 25/06/2020 20:30

@sianyflewog I haven't but midwife told me today that when you do have one you're meant to fast beforehand.

ShiningStarz · 25/06/2020 20:38

@sianyflewog yep I had the HbA1c and there's no need to fast for that one. My HbA1c came back fine!! The OGTT didn't however!! HbA1c is a snapshot of previous few months but the OGTT is what's happening in your body now.

sianyflewog · 25/06/2020 20:48

How did you end up having the GTT as well @ShiningStarz? Xx

ShiningStarz · 25/06/2020 20:49

Yep @sianyflewog and I'm
So glad I did as I would have thought everything was fine just based on HbA1c.

MooseWL · 25/06/2020 22:00

Do any of you ladies take piriton for hay-fever etc in pregnancy. I've just had a reaction to a face mask my face has burned up, which is annoying as I put it on to cool me down!
The internet has mixed messages. My pharmacist (partner) said no but googling shows doctors often say its fine!

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 25/06/2020 22:28

@OrDis @sianyflewog I’m not too far from you guys - between Cardiff and Bridgend!

Emmy2020 · 25/06/2020 22:44

@ShiningStarz I did see a few white sleepsuits today in Mamas and papas and John Lewis.
@sianyflewog Yeah I got the deluxe one so hoping it’ll be good 😊

ShiningStarz · 25/06/2020 22:59

Thanks @Emmy2020 I think I'll
Have to wait until I want to be in shops, it can wait until Aug 😊😊

pangolin84 · 25/06/2020 23:04

@MooseWL I have no experience myself but there is a section about medications in one of my books (Expecting Better by Emily Oster). Does Piriton contain the same active ingredient as the ones she mentions?

September 2020 4
MooseWL · 26/06/2020 06:54

Thank you @pangolin84. I think it's different to those ones (chlorphenamine) but i texted a friend who's a doctor and she said it would be fine so I took one. Can't believe how pregnancy has made my skin so sensitive, firstly sunburn and now that. My face looked like a tomato and I've used the same facemask before pregnancy with no problems at all!
Will teach me to do a patch test on things before smothering them all over my face!

Laura1348 · 26/06/2020 07:19

@MooseWL I was told my mid wife it was okay. Called midwife hub for something else - they said no good to use. Had to speak to local GP about something else- they said no good to use. THEN had to speak to consultant at hospital and they said piriton all okay.
So now I just avoid. I know that's no help but I'm not sure anyone knows. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Hope you're feeling better.

MooseWL · 26/06/2020 07:31

@laura1348 it's weird how different people say different things isn't it. I think it's because there's not enough research done to say its safe like a lot of drugs in pregnancy although it's probably fine. That's why they can't licence them for pregnancy and pharmacists wouldn't be able to sell it you and would need it prescribed by a GP.
I figured taking 1 wasn't going to do any harm as I just needed the allergic reaction to go down as I was panicking a bit with it being my face! Between that and cold flannels it's fine now thankfully!

Laura1348 · 26/06/2020 07:42

@MooseWL I know- it's crazy. I took one too as I just couldn't cope with the hay fever!
Glad you're feeling better. Hope you find a new mask that works for you;we all need a little pick me up!

sianyflewog · 26/06/2020 07:53

Apparently there was no queue for Next yesterday so I’m hoping I can get down there today. Primark opens in our town centre too which i’d like to go to just to get cheap knickers but I can just imagine the queue 🙈

Laura1348 · 26/06/2020 08:01

@sianyflewog what is Ewan the sheep please? Thanks

Lilice · 26/06/2020 08:40

@Emmy2020 apart from newborn neutral clothes and that bundle that keeps being delayed, i think I've got everything. I bet you had a lovely time, I miss going shopping and having a look around.
@sianyflewog I saw a video of people queueing outside primark in Dublin when it reopened, it was mental lol! I wish i could order online!
