@umabb ahhh best of luck to you. Can't wait to hear your baby news xx

I am wondering if I'm in the early stages of labour. I've been having fairly strong cramp/contractions type pains that start in my lower back and spread round to my pelvis/lower bump all afternoon. They aren't regular and can last 3-5 mins. Have been 20-35 mins apart so far. This has been accompanied by needing to open my bowels almost after each one. I don't know where it's all coming from but it's like the pressure that builds is pushing on my bowels, too. Probably turn out to be nothing but my mum thinks I'm in the early stages. Time will tell! 39+2

mrssunshinexxx · 02/06/2020 18:17

@Gigitree I'm 37+3 and I'm having my first sweep at 38 weeks they will do upto 3 a week where I am I am doing it to try kick start labour naturally as I am completely against induction for personal reasons x

Gigitree · 02/06/2020 18:32

@mrssunshinexxx thank you that’s good to know! Do you have to book in for a sweep ahead of time? Or if I ask my midwife on the day do you think she’ll do it?
I’d rather not have an induction if I can avoid it, but obviously if that’s what’s needed to get her out safely then I’ll go for it, but if I can I’d like to try any other options first.

Ginfilledcats · 02/06/2020 18:40

I never knew you could have sweeps by choice before 40 weeks! I have my next midwife appt at 39+6 - can I just ask for a sweep during this appt if she examines me and my cervix is favourable, no point if it's not I've read!

Blizy · 02/06/2020 18:44

Fingers crossed @APD1981

APD1981 · 02/06/2020 18:59

Seems to have calmed down now so either a false alarm or it's going to come and go for a while. DH got really excited it was all happening! I tried to tell him I wasn't sure and not to get his hopes up!

MissisBee · 02/06/2020 20:22

Good luck @umabb hope it all goes well.

At my last appt, the Dr mentioned the possibility of a sweep at this week's appointment. I'll be 38+2, so quite early, and I expect if I end up seeing someone different, it may end up not being an option. I don't mind either way really. It's my last appointment before my section next week, but I'm getting increasingly keen for baby to make her own way before then!!
Will try and persuade DH to get a takeaway curry this week. I'm adding chilli to nearly all food, despite not being a major fan. I've a gammy hip at the minute, so walking is limited and its far too hot and I'm far too tired to be trying sex 😂

Missgemini · 02/06/2020 20:43

Good luck @umabb this is so exciting! Omg!
@APD1981 I think it sounds like early labour, which I've been told can go on for a while. So excited for you!

umabb · 02/06/2020 20:48

Thanks xx just quickly checking in. So I’ve started this Foley balloon induction process - inserted a ballon and expand it hope to trigger things off in next 12 hours. Insertion was uncomfortable but can handle. Had period cramps kind of pain for a bit but now eased off. likely to break waters tomorrow morning that’s when the husband can come in. Paid for a private room which is quite nice. Uncomfortable but not too bad so hopefully can sleep tonight. Xx

umabb · 02/06/2020 20:52

Strange as doc said I was 1cm dilated before the ballon got in - they didn't seem to be surprised. I guess it's quite common.

umabb · 02/06/2020 20:54

Done a C-19 test too - they say it's routine. Same swob went in throat then went in to both nostrils. I swear it touched my brain. You would've known things could go so deep in the nose! Yuck!

APD1981 · 02/06/2020 20:57

@Missgemini yeah I think it could be. I have very bad back ache now that spreads round to the sides of my bump and some period type crampy pain. Went for a little walk and was in quite a lot of discomfort so have taken some paracetamol now. I've also been to the loo 5 times today 🙈 Quite unusual for me. Will see what happens overnight 🤞

APD1981 · 02/06/2020 20:58

@umabb I hope you have a comfortable night. So excited for you to meet your little one really soon!x

mrssunshinexxx · 02/06/2020 21:00

@Gigitree I would ring again so you know it's booked in. I'm going to ask my midwife tomorrow to do it next app depends how far along you are now if you will see the midwife before 38 weeks then you can ask her then? I'm seeing mine weekly and have been for some time x

Missgemini · 02/06/2020 21:03

@umabb oooo a private room. I wonder how much that would cost at my hospital. Although the normal rooms look really nice tbh. But wow, you're almost there!

@APD1981 haha! How classy. Well, if you clear your bowels now, you shouldn't have much in there for when you actually start pushing 😂

APD1981 · 02/06/2020 21:07

@missgemini I've just said exactly the same to my sister!

P.S. sorry for the TMI on my last post!

Magpie21 · 02/06/2020 21:44

@umabb and @APD1981Good luck ladies x

Things are getting very interesting now! SmileSmile

AmyMaria2 · 02/06/2020 22:47

Good luck @APD1981 and @umabb so exciting!! I was induced and baby arrived 6 hours later! Can't wait to hear about your safe arrivals xxx

BirdGarden · 02/06/2020 23:04

Good luck @APD1981 and @umabb!

BirdGarden · 02/06/2020 23:07

@APD1981 haha! How classy. Well, if you clear your bowels now, you shouldn't have much in there for when you actually start pushing 😂

This ^ from @Missgemini is sooo true!

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 02/06/2020 23:56

Sounds like something is happening @APD1981 x

@umabb hope you have a productive night! x

Good luck girls xx

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 02/06/2020 23:58

Would anyone like some colostrum collection syringes? I ordered a few but to be honest, can't be arsed with the faff. I tried and got literally a single drop! Happy to post them within the UK. Let me know x

APD1981 · 03/06/2020 05:25

Pretty sure it was all a false alarm
😔 Gutted 😭

Gigitree · 03/06/2020 06:04

Oh @APD1981 I’m sorry to hear that. I might just be the early stages still, it might sort of come and go a bit? I know it must be so hard but try and keep positive and keep that
Oxytocin flowing!

APD1981 · 03/06/2020 06:17

Thanks @gigitree yes hopefully it might be still the beginnings of something. I'm so glad the weather has turned cooler today. I think it'll help me be more active so that's what I plan on doing. Just want to get things going now, even more so since thinking it was starting yesterday!
