Congratulations @AmyMaria2 what a beautiful baby

Zoey92 · 14/05/2020 15:32

Growth scan went well, baby measuring 5lb 3oz which is perfect 😊 only managed 2 face front pictures as once again little miss was not wanting to play ball, she never has at any scans 😂

@AmyMaria2 congratulations absolutely beautiful

Just putting in the last bits of my hospital bag and the snack situation is a bit ridiculous... I think I'm going to need to bring one of these pull along shopping trolleys in addition to my cabin bag. DH thinks I have enough there to quarantine/lockdown at the post natal ward.

In truth I am hoping to be out in 24 hours.

Granny shopping trolley anyone?

@LillianFullStop what things have you bought? I've bought lucazade drinks and
Jelly babies at the moment not sure what else to get x

Ginfilledcats · 14/05/2020 16:50

I've got lucazade and jelly beans, and chocolate raisins, as well as some snack a jacks and dried mango. And polls for if my mouth is dry/want to feel fresh. I've also got some cold coffee Starbucks can things for my husband!
Oh and some healthy breakfast bar type things filled with cereal and nuts. Trying to cover all bases!

Busylizzie85 · 14/05/2020 16:51

Haha that's a good idea @LillianFullStop, my bags are very full! I have one for baby, carry on for me and a rucksack for snacks.
I have got things like haribo, chocolate raisins and cereal bars. Also cartons of drink which come with straws.

LillianFullStop · 14/05/2020 17:09

I've got: lucozade, juice boxes, chocolates, biscuits, chocolate wafers, bounce muesli bars, almonds, empty sports bottle for drinking water without having to sit up.

Plus some fruits (clementines and apples)

And specifically for cesarean - cough mints and peppermint tea, paracetamol and ibuprofen (in case I miss or they are late with the drug trolley!)

My baby will be born with a cleft so I also have special bottles and teats, ready-made formula, steriliser bags and washing up liquid.

I really think I've gone overboard lol!!

Magpie21 · 14/05/2020 17:11

I'm loving the snack chat! This was a priority of mine when I first thought about packing my hospital bag (from 20 weeks ha ha). One of my requirements for the snack pack is a real can of red coke! Sounds a bit silly, but that is one of the things I gave up in pregnancy, as it felt far too naughty to have.

MissisBee · 14/05/2020 18:17

I've got a large selection of cereal/snack bars. Must get some lucozade or something on standby.
Baby was fine at my appointment today, extremely active. I got my bloods done because of a weird rash on my hands and feet. Turns out I'm anaemic with low ferritin, so I'm going back tomorrow to get an iron infusion.

APD1981 · 14/05/2020 18:39

I have lucozade and cartons of apple juice, a mini Robinsons squash squeezy thing as I read it makes the warm hospital water more drinkable! Food wise I have biscuits, nutty cereal bars, haribo (don't like jelly babies), mini brioche (my sister said in her long labour she couldn't face anything crunchy so recommended something soft and sugary and brioche is freezable so we'll pull it out of the freezer when we go), and if time DH will make sandwiches and grab whatever fruit is in the bowl.

Mj2196 · 14/05/2020 20:00

@MissisBee Do you mind me asking what was your level to get a transfusion ? I was given 3 tablets a day since 28w, just had more blood tests and got another 3 a day for 3 months & something called Cyanocobalamin ? . But The tablets are an open arms for constant constipation 😭.

Have you ladies got lucozade sport or the original/orange ones ?
I’ve got jelly pots & nutragrains to take I loved them after dd

Missgemini · 14/05/2020 20:27

You ladies have made me feel so much better. I was worried that I'll be needing a second bag for the hospital and was scolding myself for not packing correctly. Seems like it's almost impossible to pack one bag! Haha

All the snacks are in the bag now. Only problem is that I don't trust my husband. Chances of him going into the bag and nicking some is quite high!

Pegase · 14/05/2020 20:37

Having a wobble Sad

Am sure my bump too big for dates. Just tried to measure and was over 40cm (although high probability I'm doing it wrong).

Have a growth scan Tues but don't want to feel worried until then

Rinoa · 14/05/2020 20:37

I'm originally from the states where in the hospital they give you ice chips. Basically crisps of ice. Do they do that here in the uk? From vlogs from the states I know they give you that when you're not allowed to eat anything. But I noticed since I moved ice seems to be scarce here 😂

Missgemini · 14/05/2020 20:58

@Pegase I can see why that would be worrying. Judging by what's happened to the ladies here, it can turn out that the result of the scan is very different from the measurement. The measurements are perfect at all. I have noticed differences in where different midwives have placed the tape, so it is definitely use dependent.

If it is true that the baby is big, sounds like worst case scenario is an induction or c section. Are you worried about those?

@rinoa I've never heard about the ice chips, I'm afraid. Generally, if you can't eat, you're given oral or IV fluids.

Jeez so many typos

Pegase · 14/05/2020 21:04

Will try measuring again. Annoying as I had a mw appt last week but of course it was by phone so not much use!

MJane3 · 14/05/2020 21:05

@Rinoa I'm originally from the US too! Where are you from? And there were no ice chips here with my first birth!

peetieswie · 14/05/2020 21:06

Congrats @amymaria2 he's absolute beaut! What a reassuring birth story.

Had midwife appointment yesterday and baby has gone from 50th percentile to off the scale huge. They aren't sending me for a scan but will check me again at 36 week appointment. Being really conscious of what I eat now but getting worried. I've only every been a 8-10 and have a small frame and scared to push a giant baby out.. Hoping it evens out. Baby not engaged and still very high. 35 weeks tomorrow.

HayleyD84 · 14/05/2020 21:12

@MJ2196
I had an emergency c-section 5 years ago. I wanted a vbac but my scar hasn't healed properly so I've got a very high risk of a scar rupture so they have strongly advised me to have an elected.

I'm also terrified that my husband can't come with me up to the ward, mainly because I had horrific aftercare last time which resulted in me getting post natal depression.
That I've learned is very rare and most women are highly looked after.

The hospital are working with me to get my anxiety down, I have visited the ward (which I broke down and was a total wreck!) The have offered me a side room (if one is available)
They are making all the staff aware of what happened last time.

I'm still absolutely terrified and keep crying all of the time, I applied to have my husband stay over (as they have done that for some women) but I've been declined Sad

I've just got to try and stay as relaxed as I can and know there's nothing I can do about it and just hope this time is different.

Its a difficult one though if you have a choice of both xxxx

BabyBird20 · 14/05/2020 21:13

@Pegase don't panic, mine changes size/shape quite often as the baby moves from side to side or I eat too much etc! Not sure you can measure yourself accurately either? I'm 35 weeks and mine measure 38cm too! If baby is still moving as normal then try not to worry, although I'm sure you could call your midwives and ask if it is playing on your mind?

HayleyD84 · 14/05/2020 21:19

@LillianFullStop oh thank you, my due date is 14th June, my section is booked for 8th June.
I'm having a boy Grinxxx

Missgemini · 14/05/2020 21:28

@Pegase I wouldn't measure yourself, to be honest. I know how tempting it is to do these things, but we give ourselves unnecessary stress by trying to do it ourselves. Good luck for next week x

@peetiesweet So stressful this whole thing. Good luck for the next appt.

Rinoa · 14/05/2020 21:40

@MJane3 I'm from Chicago ! That's a shame about the ice lol I do like chewing on it especially in the summer haha I'm sure I'll cope though

Mj2196 · 14/05/2020 21:48

@HayleyD84 aw love I’m so sorry to hear that . At least they seem to be trying to help. You sound like your really trying to stay positive though and that makes the world of difference. I’ve got my fingers crossed you have a much nicer experience this time ! Xx
I had a lot of issues after my induction with dc1& was left at 10cm for hours cause head was too high to push.it took me months to recover from tear & stitches . But they are highly advising me not to go over 40 weeks this time due to shoulder dystocia risk .
Partner is aloud in recovery room for an hour or 2 but not on any wards here so I’m praying they are being extra lovely to ladies on their own but postnatal wards are known for being a bit hit and miss in my area .
