Where has everyone got or going to get their pj’s from for in the hospital? I was thinking I’d need two nighties, one for giving birth in and another one to wear after. I have two I was going to use but on of them is a quite thick material and I’m worried I will just overheat in it.
Or are people planning on wearing something different to give birth in?
I was just going to wear a wireless bra as I was hoping to be in the pool, but I need a back up option in case the Poole isn’t available and I feel like I’d want more coverage like a nightie or something.

Pegase · 17/04/2020 09:04

Tu at Sainsbury's is good for children's clothes- we just had a delivery that came quickly.

Uniqlo have kimono style bodysuits which don't have to go over baby's head which are a godsend. H and M do them too.

JoJo Maman Bébé do really nice baby clothes. They are ££ but their clothes look like new still by the time you have finished with them so worth the expenditure if you are planning on passing clothes down.

Pegase · 17/04/2020 09:06

I bought mine from Mothercare in closing down sale. Nursing nighties are surprisingly hard to track down!

For giving birth a nightie or an old T shirt from DH although I ended up in a hospital gown - must have been because of having an epidural I assume.

mrssunshinexxx · 17/04/2020 09:08

@Gigitree I got 2 button up nighties off boohoo they are dark colours and nice and thin so will take those I am also desperate for a water birth so I will just take a bikini top for that but imagine I will end up naked. If no pool for whatever reason just a sports bra or loose vest top

Gigitree · 17/04/2020 09:40

Yes @Pegase they’re harder than I thought to track down, especially because I was dark coloured ones!

Thanks @mrssunshinexxx I’ll take a look at boohoo!

APD1981 · 17/04/2020 09:57

I just got a couple off the Happy Mama website. Both nursing ones. I'm not a fan of nighties really but have taken the advice I've read and got some for the hospital.

Might I also give a shout out for Happy Mama? I am so, so impressed with their customer service. I ordered my nighties and a few t shirts for these last few warmer weeks and they told me they'd been shipped straight away. However, I got no update from Royal Mail for a week. So I contacted Happy Mama and they were just amazing. The parcel was caught up in a back log at RM and they showed me emails they'd had with RM staff chasing up parcels etc. I also got regular emails from Monika at Happy Mama updating where the parcel was up to as she was checking on it everyday. When it was delivered, she obviously got to work and checked as she then emailed me to say she was glad it was there and hope I was happy etc. Just fab customer service. They have loads of nursing tops so I'm going to use them again once baby is here because service like that is worth my business!

Firsttimerat35 · 17/04/2020 10:10

Thanks @LillianFullStop - if you dont mind please?? 18th June and it's a blue one!! Thank you!!

I got a really nice nursing nightie from Jojo Maman Bebe but then read that I should have an old one for giving birth in case of getting messy....which will have to be a new cheaper one as I don't do nighties, lol!! I feel like I'm going to go with a suitcase full of options because you really have no idea what you'll want at the time do you?!

We have got clothes from all over but a lot of my favourites are actually George at Asda!! Not sure how they'll hold up after a few washes but for price and choice and cuteness I've found them really good!! Also Sainsburys and Next. But almost everywhere sems to be pretty much out of first size or newborn now it seems.

@peetieswie I'm with you on the wondering how I'd go to work right up to the end!! Should also save some mat leave by going off later now that we're at home pretty much right up till due date. I want as much as possible on the other side rather than stopping work early.

Gigitree · 17/04/2020 10:22

@APD1981 thank you! I was actually just looking at their website and wasn’t sure if they were any good or not!
That sounds like fab customer service! I feel like so many companies get it wrong so I always like to shout out when companies are getting it right too!

Blizy · 17/04/2020 10:54

I had my scan this morning and baby is measuring average size and following the 50th centile line in the chart. I'm so relieved!
She had the hiccups during the scan, it was very cute!

Gigitree · 17/04/2020 11:20

Aww that’s so cute @Blizy and yay for good news I’m so pleased for you!
I have a midwife appointment today and I can’t wait to hear baby’s heartbeat again xxx

sarahlounich · 17/04/2020 11:28

@UKtoSK good to hear the Dr wasn't too worried about her moving more. My little one is quite a wriggler first thing and in the evening but yesterday my whole belly was moving for most of the day! Guess it's getting tight in there!

@mrssunshinexxx I got 2 nighties and a thin dressing gown from boohoo too 🙂

Baby clothes wise I've ordered from Tu at Sainsburys, George Asda, Boots and Matalan mainly....just getting what I can from different places!

@peetieswie I was saying this to my DH the other day, I'd still have 4 weeks at work and not sure how I'd have managed it to be honest! So I'll take that positive from this otherwise rubbish situation.

Anyone else struggle to chill out and stop nesting? My husband is a keyworkers so still out to work in the day and although I'm working from home technically I'm washing, cleaning and tidying! I relax in the evening but otherwise I feel like I want to get all these things done!

33+ 3

APD1981 · 17/04/2020 11:29

@Blizy so happy you've had some good news xx

@Gigitree I like to shout out too. I told Monika to forward my email to her manager because she was amazing! Not just her either as it was someone else who initially replied to me (within a couple of hours of my email, too). Our conversation ended with me sending a photo wearing my newly delivered t shirt in the sun the other day! Seriously, I hope you give them your business because they are brilliant x

Mj2196 · 17/04/2020 11:48

Just been for my 31 week appointment bump is measuring off the chart but apparently it’s ok as it’s following the curve🤷🏻‍♀️. She said she will see where it plots next time& decide if I need a scan from there. She pretty much dismissed it as normal as my dd was 8lb 13 , which put fear in me as I’d give anything not to go overdue & be induced with a big baby again 😢.

Anyone else’s anxiety sky high cause a first/previous birth was awful ?

31+5

Blizy · 17/04/2020 12:56

@Mj2196 I was sent for a growth scan today after measuring 4 weeks ahead, my baby is average size. I don't really trust the measuring tape to gauge babies size. I'm with you on the anxiety front, my first baby was stillborn 9 years ago and this baby has a 1:6 chance of having Down syndrome, because of this I'm high risk and my ultra sound appointments have been reduced and I'm now swing my community midwife rather than my consultant I am freaking out big time. Anxiety is through the roof.

UKtoSK · 17/04/2020 13:13

@Blizy sorry you have so much anxiety but I’m glad to hear you got some good news today! They don’t measure your bump in Korea so I find that practice kind of strange. I guess it works well enough or they wouldn’t do it but seems like it causes unnecessary stress when it’s inaccurate.

I’ve also been having lots of crazy vivid and weird dreams this whole pregnancy. Especially lately when I go back to sleep after my 5am insomnia, those last dreams before getting up are always the weirdest.

Mj2196 · 17/04/2020 13:24

@Blizy aw really that’s good to know thank you. I’m hoping it’s just mis measurement .I’m 3cm above so I think is that 3weeks? . I’m so sorry to hear about your first baby , you certainly have reason to be anxious but I’m glad things went well for you today .

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 17/04/2020 13:34

I'm loving the dreams - Royal Cornonavirus 😂

I'm starting to get hospital bag sorted too as I went 4 weeks early last time.

For me I'm just taking leggings and long vests plus hoodie/cardi and I'll have my flipflops (I live in flip flops!). Asda do a good two pack of vests that sit mid thigh for about £6 and go up to plus sizes. They're not nursing vests but if you were BF you could easily pull the neck down as quite scooped. Last time I just wore a long vest in labour having marched through the hospital in vest and knickers from the prenatal ward to labour ward, moaning like a banshee! As soon as they told me I was good to go to labour ward I was off like a shot, no time to waste putting my leggings back on! Cringing thinking about it now and can still vividly remember a cleaner laughing at my antics as she polished the floor with one of those big electric buffer thingies! DH was mortified!

I have comfy Primark jammies for after, they're jersey and have POCKETS! Could pass as patterned holiday trousers so will wear them with a plain vest. Best jammies ever! I wanted to buy a new pair for the occasion but I don't think Primark do online?

Got big knickers from Asda and my Mum got me a wee pack of soft plain white babygros from Tesco. I have some baby clothes from DC1 too.

Top tip I was given for first time was to take ear plugs! If you have to stay overnight they are a godsend. You'll still hear your baby next to you but they help drown out the rest of the ward noises. I was in a sideroom for 3 off a ward with 16 beds last time!

Rinoa · 17/04/2020 14:28

I thought you could only give birth in the hospital gown? And you could wear your own clothes but only to sleep and afterwards? If you have to wear your own then crap! I haven't thought about that and only thought to bring an extra nursing bra to wear if I go in the pool. Agh!

Btw happy 33 weeks to my due date twins ! @LillianFullStop @Busylizzie85

Busylizzie85 · 17/04/2020 14:32

Thanks @Rinoa

I think maybe we should just all over pack better to take more than we need and not need it than have less in my opinion 😊 I am the worst when going on holiday for that so I should be in good practice!

MissisBee · 17/04/2020 14:55

I've a few nighties from Matalan and Asda and the "family hospital pyjamas" - originally bought for my mum when she had heart surgery a few years ago, then I took them when I had DS. Short sleeved shirt pyjamas, so easy boob access. Going to try and finish packing this weekend. I feel I just want everything ready now, and it's annoying me that there's stuff we can't find - the sheets for the Moses basket and the newborn insert for the car seat. I'm sure they'll turn up somewhere...

Ginfilledcats · 17/04/2020 16:17

I got a nice spotty button up nighty from boohoo for like a tenner that will get chucked. Also got nice button up shorts and T-shirt set from new look. Both black!
Also hoping for the pool and likely just going to wear a sports bra (not really sporty, it's Calvin Klein so 0 support lol) in the pool.

For coming home I'm going to pack a black casual tea dress in case I can't bare tight things around my middle. But have leggings and nice but baggy top/cardigan combo. Trainers and or flip flops weather dependant.

I'm 32 and 3 and want to get cracking on the bag this week! My friend who was due the same day as me had her baby a few days ago so now I'm like ok need to get sorted.

What random helpful things are you taking?
I've got a hand held electric fan and some magicool spray as I can't stand being too hot.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 17/04/2020 17:06

@Ginfilledcats healthy snacks that offer sustenance not just a quick sugar hit, a water bottle either a sports or straw opening to make it easier

Flannel for when you pee after having the baby. I'll let you work that one out..

Change for the vending machine

I'll probably think of more later

Been having Braxton hicks here on and off all afternoon. They're definitely getting stronger each week. Hoping she stays in there for another 2 weeks at least!!
