@UKtoSK Thanks for the link; I've not heard of that site before. @Babymaher My baby is lying sideways but not too concerned yet. Hopefully she'll turn.

My mission today is to find a nightie for the hospital - so helpful to read where you've all been getting them from.

In terms of what to take to the hospital, my hospital have set up a fb group where they do regular live chats covering things like what to bring, basically to replace all the classes they normally run. Might be worth seeing if your hospitals have something similar if you're wondering what they'll provide/what they suggest you bring. I know it can differ slightly.

BabyBird20 · 18/04/2020 11:40

What are you ladies getting ready blanket wise for the baby? I am so clueless! Do we need to take one to wrap baby in in the hospital? Cellular or knitted? I'm gradually buying bits!

Smiffette · 18/04/2020 11:47

@BabyBird20 I'm taking a cellular blanket to put over her in the car seat and I large swaddle blanket thing.

I'm hoping it will be fairly nice weather so she won't need to much on top of a vest and babygrow

peetieswie · 18/04/2020 11:48

I've bought some small blankets from aldi and then my colleagues mum has knitted me a thicker woolen blanket, bless her. Will probably take a smaller one in hospital bag as it may be fairly warm. Could also leave other stuff in boot of car to be fair in case.

LillianFullStop · 18/04/2020 12:04

I'm bringing a muslin to wrap or swaddle in while in hospital - then a cellular blanket over the car seat going home.

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2020 12:18

@BabyBird20 I'm taking a thin blanket not cellular and a large Muslin again really thin and airy x

Blizy · 18/04/2020 12:22

I have a large Muslin swaddle, cellular and a cotton non cellular blanket. I'm waiting to see what the weather is like nearer the time, I'm in Scotland...

Gigitree · 18/04/2020 12:36

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what’s the difference between a cellular blanket and a knitted blanket? I have a couple of thin knitted blankets my MIL made for us, I also have a soft cotton blanket from newbie, I have one large muslin that i was going to use to swaddle. Do you think I need a cellular blanket too?

Firsttimerat35 · 18/04/2020 17:21

I'm glad someone else has asked the question on blankets! It's so confusing!! I feel completely clueless!! Been Googling breast milk storage for the last 40 minutes too!! Too much to learn!!!

Gigitree · 18/04/2020 17:23

Oh gosh @Firsttimerat35 I haven’t even thought that far ahead about breast milk storage 🙈 I feel like such a dummy - why is it all so complicated?

LillianFullStop · 18/04/2020 17:46

Cellular blankets I've found thin enough to wrap/swaddle in. Knitted ones generally go on top and tucked in. Both breathable with holes which is good.

@Firsttimerat35 and @Gigitree I've just ordered 50-pack Medela bags (180ml) from Amazon. I used them last time and good to have standing in the fridge or lying flat in the freezer.

I can't figure out which sterile syringes to get for expressed colostrum Confused so many different ones! 1ml? Or should I get bigger so can also use for formula in case baby can't latch?

Also can anyone recommend post birth bath salts? Last time we didn't have a bath so I just showered but it might be nice/soothing to have a bath if I can.

BabyBird20 · 18/04/2020 19:50

Thank you all so much for your replies re blankets! I think I'll get a cellular blanket and a big muslin square or two for swaddling then. My mum is knitting me a little 'pram blanket' but that's just to pop over his love not actually wrap the baby in! All so much to learn!!

On another note I'm in a total dilemma about movements again. Last time we had a quiet day he was absolutely fine when we eventually went in and he was on the monitor. He's definitely having another quiet day, have only felt him once or twice so not sure whether to go in again or not!! Argh!!

Ginfilledcats · 18/04/2020 19:55

@Babybird20 I'd call your midwife for guidance. For reassurance I've been in 5x for perceived reduced movements and been in floods of tears expecting the worst each time and she's been fine! I probably panic about it once a day/every other day. My baby has no pattern other than has a busy random day then several quiet ones.

Have you tried all the usual tricks, big glass of cold sugary drink, something sweet, lying on your side or back. Lie down quiet and watch something for an hour and see if you feel movement,'if not I'd definitely ring your midwife. They'd rather see you and reassure you than you stay at home

I'm sure all will be fine though! X

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2020 19:55

@LillianFullStop if baby won't latch wouldn't you just give them a bottle rather than syringe ? Genuinely interested as I am FTM x

Rinoa · 18/04/2020 20:05

This was posted today by the Baby show in case anyone is interested

newbyxx · 18/04/2020 20:28

@BabyBird20 I've been the same
With movements today is horrible isn't it! Ive felt him but he's deffo having a quiet day! I've been in 3 times in the last month with reduced movements and he's been perfect on the monitor. It makes it so hard when they have an off day, mine doesn't have a pattern either so I don't have a norm. I just don't know what to do for the best when he has these days. Seeing as I've felt him on separate occasions today, last time being about 10 mins ago, I'm going to see how he is in the morning if he's not back to normal then il phone. Even though they tell you to always ring I still feel like a crazy person xx

Firsttimerat35 · 18/04/2020 20:40

I wonder if we're giving ourselves too much of a hard time expecting to know everything straight away....!! I'm hoping it will all just fall into place. But now I want to find out more about syringes for colostrum which I've never heard about...haha!! @Babybird20 maybe speak to your midwife for reassurance and go in if you still feel unsure. I went in once and he did the typical thing of showing off as soon as I laid down!! But theres no reassurance like hearing that heartbeat. @Ginfilled cats is right, they'd rather reassure you than having you stressed at home.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 18/04/2020 20:51

@lillianFullstop my midwife gave me syringes at my 36 week appointment last time and will again this time because of the GD. Might be worth asking your midwife if thats an option? I was given 1ml syringes last time which doesn't sound alot but its hard work hand pumping 1ml when it comes out drip at a time

Busylizzie85 · 18/04/2020 20:51

@BabyBird20 @newbyxx I have been the same today with movements until I ate quite a spicy curry that got her moving and now making her listen to music which she likes to move to.
I have been extremely hormonal today so maybe they are all having a growth spurt which makes them quieter.

33+1

AndddddHerewegoagain · 18/04/2020 20:59

@Firsttimerat35 they only encourage stocking up colostrum if there's a medical reason, my son was born with a cleft and unable to feed without a specialist bottle so the harvested colostrum gave him a boost alongside the formula.

As i have gestational diabetes this time I'm harvesting colostrum as they can struggle to regulate the babies sugars once born and the colostrum can help give the baby a boost

BabyBird20 · 18/04/2020 20:59

Thanks @ginfilledcats, it's so scary isn't it!! Luckily after a walk, good, cold drink and a creme egg he has started moving again!! I rang them for advice and they said to continue he to monitor and if movement stop or slow down again to call back! 😬😬

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2020 21:00

@Firsttimerat35 my midwife told me to ask my consultant next week for syringes and she said they would also show me what to do

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2020 21:01

@AndddddHerewegoagain my midwife is encouraging me and there's no medical reason x

BabyBird20 · 18/04/2020 21:03

@busylizzie85, @Firsttimerat35 @newbyxx sorry I didn't spit your replies before I posted!! It's horrible isn't it being torn between wanted to be on the safe side but also not wanting to be in hospital more than needed at this time! The midwife was lovely, said as he's just started moving a lot more that I should keep an eye on him and get back in touch if I worry again! Baby clearly likes cream eggs as he's started moving so much more!!

BabyBird20 · 18/04/2020 21:04

Spot* not spit your replies!! 😬
