OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Chunkypudding - um it's my old college bag. Ages ago i thought yep i'm going to buy a nice stylish holdall for hospital. But it's not in keeping with my vaguely Buddhist notions about stuff, so going to use a bag that i don't use anymore. It's quite a nice bag (an Eastpak satchel thingy) is waterproof and you can pack a load on. also won't care if it's lying on a hospital floor.

I am excited about having a bag to pack though for going somehwere. Anywhere will do. Well, except hospital.

Neuro · 01/10/2007 16:13

Awen, i'll let you know if i head up to Southampton. Would be for some shopping at that big place near the water. Gosh, can't remember what it's called. the one with the nice big John Lewis

gingeme · 01/10/2007 16:19

Oh Awen your poor little fella. My dh sends his best wishes to him too.
E17, Eros ah they take me back to my pulling days.
God are we realy that old. Obviously B.C. (before children)
I used olive oils for both my small ds's for their flaky skin. Works briliantly. Good for cradle cap too.
I think you can get the sterilised bottles that they use in hospitals from somewhere. Youll have to ask someone from the breast/bottle feeding thread.
Have had a pretty quiet day today realy. Horrid rain outside so not bothered about being indoors today.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/10/2007 16:20

West Quay... love it there lots of good places for cream teas! Also you have mamas & papas and mothercare nearby.

MamaMaiasaura · 01/10/2007 16:21

gingeme - like the BC (before children) How is your ds today? I feel like i have neglected mine as he is being looked after by tv & playstation

barristermum · 01/10/2007 16:39

Hi girls - reckon you have been even more chatty than usual today! Neuro - your r/ship with baby's father sounds like a romcom waiting to happen - bad boy meets good girl, gets her pregnant and they fall in love despite their differences awww!
Awen and gingeme - hope your sons are surviving and know they must feel utterly comforted by their lovely mums. defo think awen should have let a silent but deadly one go on the sofa with exp tho'!
My hospital won't give me formula milk because of the breast feeding/nazi policies. If you want it you have to take it in. I am totally with you on this issue mixedmamma, but a doctor friend was telling me it cwn be hard to start off combining both as if baby bottle feeds too early it affects how they latch on to a nipple and they might not be able to - that's why they cup feed when baby gets dehydrated if breastfeeding doesn't start off well. Like neuro I am ready for a fight with all these matronly women who were never milk monitor at school and only now have minor positions in authority and are determined to make the rest of us pay.
Cazzybaby - I have bought/prepared NOTHING! You are not alone.
love you all xxxx

gingeme · 01/10/2007 19:50

Awen ds was fine till about 6pm then he had his medicine then went into one on the kitchen floor. You just cant get through to him when hes like that. Left him to his paddy then saw blood coming from his mouth. Sent him into DH who had a proper look to find hed bit his lip. They had a cuddle on the sofa while I made dinner. 5 mins later hes was fast asleep. DH put him to bed where he still now.
Ive just got myself a ring sling off Ebay. My friend lent me one with ds4 but now carries her own lo in it. It only cost £14.99 and is pale mauve with light blue paisley pattern.
Hi barristermum how are you?
Beans is doing karate kicks at the moment but that might have something to do with the chocolate ice cream I had for afters.
Been getting a sciatic twinge down my left bum cheek today. Think its all the sitting down with ds3 Ive been doing today. My fat bum cant take it no more.
Well Eastenders on soon so Ill say ttfn.

sabinar · 01/10/2007 20:10

you can add me to the list of people who have bought/done nothing... although we did just now score a pushchair from some friends who found it too cumbersome. It definitely is big and cumbersome, but we have decent storage and it will suit the offroad walking that you kind of have to do near here (and that I enjoy).

I know I should be very grateful for getting something like this for free but can't help thinking that it would have been nice to have been able to choose one for myself (assuming I would be able to make a decision!)

I really was hoping to have one that you could set so that LO was facing you whilst you walked, and this one doesn't do that...

having said that, I think I'll be using a sling most of the time anyway, if plans are anything to go by!

Just focusing on the £s saved and what I can spend that few hundred on instead I guess!

Tell me I don't sound completely mad!

Jenswish · 01/10/2007 20:51

I'm one of those who has done/bought nothing either.

The nursery (or planned nursery) is still cluttered with junk (been the junk room for 18 months)

Hmmmmmmmmm..... maybe I should start on that soon. If we have an early one we're going to be buggared

MamaMaiasaura · 01/10/2007 21:13

gingeme your ds. mine asleep now. currently temp is 100f (38) post paracetamol. down from temp at 6.30 of 101 (38.4).

chunkypudding · 01/10/2007 21:42

Thanks to all who 'fessed up they've done nothing yet, everyone sounded so organised I was getting really worried it was just me!

We still have a flat to finish work on and sell, walls to knock down and rebuild in our new house, our entire wordly belongings to pack for the move, staff to train at work (have a company with my dp and have to make sure it doesn't fall apart in my absence!)

THEN I really need to think about baby stuff - I second the 'buggered if he comes early' comment!!

Awen and Gingeme, hope both your ds's are feeling much much better tomorrow, and temperatures are back to normal. Also wishing you both a peaceful night...

susiemj · 02/10/2007 08:04

Morning all!

Awen and Gingeme - Hope DSs doing well.

Beller - good luck for the meeting this morning.

RE: comment about stretchmarks or veins - I'm not sure which mine are TBH but I know they weren't there before. Also getting used to new figure. DH affectionately referred to my new growth around the tum, boobs and bum as me looking like 'a collection of balloons'! He loves it but I've always been relatively wee so it takes a bit of getting used to. I do confess to looking at myself in the mirror feeling distinctly proud of bump

Chunky and others - RE: hospital bag. You should understand that I've been stuck at home ill for a LONG time now and am frankly bored to tears. There's been some internet shopping action going on.

Sorry for all of those who have battled through the nasty weather this morning. It looks grim outside. Am going to try and find a winter coat online today!

beller · 02/10/2007 08:10

Morning all!

Gingme and Awen how are ds's today? Really hoep they are better soon, must be miserable for them xx

Dad came round for dinner last night and is giving me the money for the cot/bed! yayyy think he was a bit miffed that i had bought everything ...but he was fine..said i had left him nothign to buy..but i said i didnt "expect" anything, so maybe would have been better for him to say.Im sure I told him I was going out to get the stuff? Ah well...alls well that ends well...He has also told me he dosnt like my first choice of boys name...but then hes not keen on my second or third choice either...better hope for a girl! hahaha

I have midwife appt tom and blood tests...then im having new carpets fitted, cant wait. Then BIL's and sisters are coming round at the weekend and BILS's are putting the furniture together and nursery will be done! well apart from a few accesories!

Not sure how my meeting is going to go today? My contract finishes in June 08, so wont be here, not sure if they are aware of that yet? I just think they will ask me about my clients and when im likley to be coming back? not sue its going to be any great news , will let you know!

Hope everyone is well xxxx

Amani · 02/10/2007 08:18

Morning all
Hope you all are well.
Awen and Ginger - Hope your DS are feeling better.

Right does anyone know if it is legal or illegal at an interview stage for prospective employers to ask about your pregnancy and maternity leave and how it might affect the job you are applying for?

susiemj · 02/10/2007 08:23

Hello Amani - Nice to meet you. Think it is illegal ... Hope you're not getting hassled.

sabinar · 02/10/2007 08:40

hey Amani

I don't know the exact rules unfortunately, but it is definitely illegal to discriminate on the basis of pregnancy.

Having said that I think we do have an obligation to give due warning re: maternity leave, so that makes the situation tricky. (And I've love to hear from anyone who hasn't experienced some kind of discrimination as a result of pregnancy... we're dreaming if we think it doesn't exist).

Tricky situation. Is it obvious that you're pregnant? Would they be able to tell immediately?

BeckyAu · 02/10/2007 09:00

Good morning all!

I've just had a chance to catch up on all the chat - I'm waiting for a man to come from Virgin Media to fix our phone. When we moved in they fixed everything and all was fine, then the internet crashed so they came back and fixed that but in doing so broke the phone! ARGH! Anyway... hopefully they'll be able to sort it all out today.

I can also be added to the "Done nothing yet" list. I have a bag that I put things in for Beanie but they are just the odd free things from Preg magazines and have no hospital bag or list or products. I am so glad you girls are here to provide such useful lists as I wouldn't have a clue! Thank you!

I DO NOT want to be doing any work today. I'm abit tired (add me to the "Not sleeping very well" list too!) and feel such a nesting thing going on I actually want to be stripping the woodchip paper off the nursery walls. It has a flat roof and the builder comes next week so I want to do all I can so that when he's finished I can do the fun bit of painting and decorating and making it all look lovely. Though I guess doing some work is what will pay for the man to fix the roof. How dull!

I saw midwife last week and she said I should put on 1.5stone over whole pregnancy... I'm SOOOO scuppered then! I have already put on all bar 2lb of that. What am I supposed to eat? lettuce? Ooh dear... this is not looking good. I am definitely more hungry but I also give in to all the lovely food like biscuits and cake and ice cream that I normally don't have. Bad Becky

Anyway I hope you are all well this morning - have a lovely day! xxxxx

Amani · 02/10/2007 09:06

Hi Susie and Sabinar,
Yes it's obvious I'm pregnant, got my interview later this week, so just a little nervous about the it and worried I might get a negetive attitude when they see I am pregnant.

BeckyAu · 02/10/2007 09:32

Amani - I sincerely hope you don't get any negative vibes - as let's face it - pregnancy is a very positive thing and that's the most important thing. We are provoding a lovely warm snuggly place for our babies to grow and be happy. So I hope it all works out well for you x

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 09:43

Morning all,

I am 27 weeks now aswell so very excited to be in the final trimester. Feel the urge to get things ready now.

We are hopefully exchanging and completing on the sale of investment property this week. Very excited as it means our finances which have been stretched will fall into place and I can try to make proper plans regarding mat leave. Such a huge weight off our shoulders.

Barristermum - how are you?? Completely see the point about nipple confusion but still think they shouldnt force people to BF, I suppose once they get home they can do as they please though, but there were a few people onmy ward who had tried BF with their first and didnt want to do it again as it had been difficult, or they hadnt like dit or whatever.... i see you can takeyour own but how do you sterilise and boil the water etc if you do chose to FF.

beckyau - no idea how much i have put on but lets just say my bisscuit and bounty addiction (thanks amani for the bounty addiction) is not helping.

Awen / Gingeme - Hope DS's are feeling better.

Amani · 02/10/2007 10:15

No prob MM
although off the Bounty and on to Snickers now that peanuts have been ok'ed (ooh and back onto Greggs aswell!! )

Bettymamma · 02/10/2007 10:40

Morning all - long time no speak

gingeme, Awen hope ds's are better. Know what a nightmare it is for us mum's when they are ill. Bless them. I wish them a speedy recovery.

Can I be added to the haven't done anything for baby, don't want to work today, and have a bad cold/illness and going to put on well over 1.5stones this pregnancy list??

Our builder left on Sunday after 10 weeks of being at ours doing the kitchen and the bathroom and we have noticed he has left marks and damaged the new carpet in the spare 'baby' room where he left all his tools. Grrreeeaaaatttttt.

I see you've been chatting about BF. Its the one thing I'm really worried about and even though I'm going to try again this time I will not be bullied into feeling like a faliure if it doesn't work. It was bloomin' painful - worse than contractions - and I had to take nurofen before EVERY feed. My dd had a bad 'suck' according to the midwife. Anyway - enough of that. Think positive!

Where's that bounty bar - it must be midmorning snack time!

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 10:44

Oh I had a snickers thing before the bounty thing.

LilyLoo · 02/10/2007 11:04

morning all just hoping to catch up now.
Have been a bit poorly this weekend and have still got this really awful coldsore which is really painful so have been feeling sorry for myself.
Hope you all ok ?
Awen , Gingeme how the dc's ?

beller · 02/10/2007 11:07

Well the meeting was about getting all my clients out with the other guts on the desk, which I have been on about for ages..Now i have 8 weesk to try and get 12 clients out!!!
