I've only had chance to skim read so sorry if I've missed anyone!

Congratulations on your speedy arrival LES!

Lisa - gorgeous pictures! You must be so proud of your family.

I forgot to mention on my earlier post but me and DH decided to call our DD Edith Mary (Eadie for short).

Good luck to everyone else waiting on the big day. Not long to go now...

Hello all. Just had a quick scan - HUGE congratulations to mump, sparklyGothcat and betsy! xxx Fingers crossed we hear from Floria, Kezza and Jersey soon...

Someone asked who is cutting cords afterwards? Well my 5 yr old dd has asked if she can! The mw says that's fine if she wants to so we'll see (we're aiming for a homebirth)

Oh and I saw a programme where a family used the lotus technique thing on the placenta - it looked revolting! Can you imagine leaing over to admire a newborn and there next to it on the blanket is its placenta!

MrsFish · 26/09/2007 13:34

Good Luck Jersery

Well I am now on phase 2 of project labour

Been to the park all morning with ds, so done the walk. Now having a cup of Raspberry leaf tea. Also booked an MOT for the car for Monday so surely that will mean it will happen over the weekend Off out to the cinema tonight and a hot curry, then if I am not totally knackered, maybe a session between the sheets If none of that works, I'll just have to wait.Got my next mw appt next thursday so if it hasn't kicked off by then she'll give me a membrane sweep. Whichever way it happens, not long to go now

alicet · 26/09/2007 15:07

Betsy ? love the name Eadie! Hope all going well for you?

Inzi ? your mw at the antenatal class sounds terrible! How does she think any of what she had to say was going to help you?!?! I think it?s a good job she was walking behind you while you were slagging her off ? maybe it will help her to take a look at how she was. It?s really out of order to be so negative to a group of expectant mums and her experiences of labour are irrelevant ? as a mw surely she has seen lots of more positive stories she could have drawn on to reassure you while not painting a false picture!

Jersey ? Good luck! Keep us posted Winnie?.

MrsF ? enjoy the vindaloo tonight! Will keep our fingers crossed!

Well I had my preassessment appointment today at the hospital in preparation for my section next week. All very relaxed and cool ? had my bloods checked and spoke the the anaesthetist and all seems good. All feels a bit surreal actually that its planned like this! Sure still that it will all kick off over the weekend and throw my carefully made plans into disarray! Oh well ? if it happens like that so be it!

J2OBABY · 26/09/2007 15:09

good luck jersey

inzi- at mw, she shouldn't be in the job if she doesn't like it, maybe she was having a bad day.

good luck with self induction mrsF

am mightly p&&&ed off, i spent 3 hours the other day ordering personalised stuff of Studio for christmas and got a letter saying they won't accept my order cos of credit reasons! well, i've been with them 5 years at my old address and they never had a problem before, also, i normally pay for them straight away but i couldn't on the website, suppose i shouldn't have pretended to be a new customer to get my free tin of roses anyway, rung them and complained, they're meant to ring me back tommorrow.

also, went to the new massive Tesco's at the new shopping centre thats opened in Hull, had to wait so long for our food and coffee in the cafe that it was cold by the time we sat down, so complained on a customer form about that too, i'm just a moaning minnie today!

my mum is on a course with a mw today and she said to take 2 senokot laxatives for a couple of nights in a row to start yourself off, however, after last night, i don't think i need laxatives and anyway, i've decided i'm not ready to go into labour yet, lo can stay where she is!

i've got a major headache, swollen feet and flashing lights atm, so going to rest for a bit, until i have to go get dd from choir at 4.15, if i don't get a call saying its been cancelled and i'm a bad mum for not picking her up!

J2OBABY · 26/09/2007 15:10

x posted alice, glad you managed to speak to someone, hope you feel better for it

Katsh · 26/09/2007 15:37

Lots happening! Many congratulations to those of you who have had your babies. HOpe all is going well.
Just a quick response to a few posts.
Alice - To my surprise when I had elective c/s I needed just as many maternity pads as after a vaginal delivery. I guess it all still has to come out !!!I was very underprepared and had to use hospital stuff until dh could go shopping.

J20 - sorry to hear that you are feeling miserable. I had a terrible few days last week - felt like I was getting pnd early. I did manage to figure out some of the reasons for the misery, and did a few positive things to try to alleviate the worst of it. I am feeling much better this week, so I'm sure it's just hormonal stuff. I had a fairly rough time with both my others and I think that I was suddenly back there again, and needed to recognise that this is 5 1/2 yrs on and lots of things are different. I know you are also doing this after a bit of a gap, so maybe it's that. Hope that you feel much better soon. I reckon it's all going to be fine

alicet · 26/09/2007 15:53

Katsch - thanks for the advice about maternity pads! Will stockpile a few more.... Sorry to hear you've been feeling low honey - Big hugs winging their way to you...

J20 - if you've got a headache, swollen feet and flashing lights you should really call the mw honey - all can be signs of pre-eclampsia. May be nothing to worry about but not worth taking the risk in my book.... Hope they can see you and things settle...

Apricott · 26/09/2007 16:05

Hi all,

Just a quick post from me.

J20 I was thinking just what Alicet said about the swelling, flashing lights and so on - you should get yourself checked out even if you don't feel like it. Sorry you're feeling down .

I've become totally nappy-obsessed today. DH is dead against washable nappies (from an 'I don't want the washing machine going all the time and pails of dirty nappies around the house' point of view) but I'm feeling more and more inclined to try them out and started looking on the internet today and now have a spinning head - there is SO much choice it's hard to know where to start! I've ordered a trial pack from Cottontail. Was about to order another from Motherease but decided to wait til baby arrives as I don't intend trying them in the first couple of weeks anyway. Is easy to see how people become obsessed with these things ! I know you used them ejt - what sort did you find best? Any others used washables?

Hey girls, it's nearly October ... and we know what that means ... [excited/alarmed] emoticon !

Bye for now x

alicet · 26/09/2007 16:35

Apricott I haven't used washables but remember one friend who did saying that its better to try different makes to see what suits your baby best - some are better for skinny babies others for chubby babies and if you end up forking out hundreds for a set then you can end up out of pocket. She bought different types on ebay and sold on the ones that didn't work for her lo. She's also due in Oct and going to do the same again.... Not sure thats as helpful as advise from people who have used it but it made sense to me - afterall we've had to change the disposables that Sam (ds1) has been using as his body shape has changed....

Katsh · 26/09/2007 17:10

Alice - thanks for hugs .
Apricott - I have used washables with my 2 children, and will be doing so again. After a little bit of trial and error (mostly error) 1st time round we opted for Motherease. This time round I'm using them again. I think they are great - my original nappies were used for my 2 and a friend's 2. I've now been passed back lots of motherease that other friends have used and they are all in great condition - they wear really well. I'd also put in a good word for terry squares. Once you know how to fold them, they are brilliant. They are cheap, so easy to wash and dry and easy to make them fit the shape of your baby. You use a device called a "nappy nippa" to hold them in place - really easy to use stretchy plastic -y thing, and then a waterproof wrap on top. I'll use a mix of motherease and terry squares. As your baby gets bigger and does bigger wees, you simply add a booster layer in to absorb it all up. Hope it goes well. Go for it!

WinnieThePooh · 26/09/2007 17:27

Hi all,

I am planning on using Washables. I used them on DD and will be using them for this LO. I have Motherease Sandys and Onesize for the day time and Tots Bots (which are thicker) for the nights.

You do not need to have the washing machine going 24/7. I have enough nappies that I will be able to do a nappy wash every 2 or 3 days. As for pails of smelly nappies all over the house, that is rubbish too. I will be using flushable liners so all the waste is flushed away. I will be dry pailing them with a little tea tree oil. (must rememeber yo buy some when I go to get my raspberry leave tea tablets).

WinnieThePooh · 26/09/2007 17:31

JUst received text from Jersey.

"Thomas Michael 7lbs 5.5oz born at 1.50 pm"

ihave got really bad backache at the moment and what I think are BH, but not sure as did not get them with DD1. DP is out for the evening, but has his mobile with him and MIL is on standby for taking me to hospital is things progress, will need to get a neighbour in for DD if it does.

gemmamc · 26/09/2007 17:42

Hi all,
haven't posted for a while...

J20 at the cost of repeating what others have said, please do call the midwife. And now, actually. It's probably nothing, but you need to get checked out immediately just in case. They will check your blood pressure and take a urine sample.

As it happens I've been researching pre eclampsia in the past couple of days because I've got similar symptoms (swollen feet and hands, flashing lights, but no headache) and the midwife got a bit alarmed when I saw her Monday. She asked the GP who said that because I've had the flashing lights (although only occasionally) before pregnancy, my urine has no protein in it and the blood pressure is normal (although I noticed it's getting higher than it was) it is probably ok. But they did say that if I developed a headache I should call the hospital immediately. I am keeping an eye on this and might go get checked out if any symptoms get worse - while of course trying not to worry too much either.

To the others, hello! I am planning to use reusable nappies during the day (but disposables at night), and have bought everything second hand from a friend. They are IMSE Organics. I hope they will work for me (no idea, also because it's my first child) - otherwise I guess I'll sell them on ebay or something. I have been very confused as well. There is some info here, useful mainly for LOndoners, but perhaps worth a look for the others too:

CONGRATULATIONS JERSEY!!!! And welcome to little Thomas?

Winnie ? are you going to be next?! If Jersey is your text pal and very likely in hospital do you want my number so I can keep people updated if things kick off for you? If so send me a mail at alicetownend at doctors dot org dot uk and I will send it to you?.

Hi Gemma! Good to see you again ? been a while. Hope all going well for you?

Who is J20?s text buddy? She hasn?t been on ? may be worth them giving her a text to say we?re worried and to call mw! Or is that being too controlling?

Mum is bathing ds at the mo then I?m going to go have a mummy huggle with him and give him his bottle. He seems to be very into his daddy the last few days so want some quality time and cuddles before it becomes harder? He does do this from time to time ? its me for a few days then dh but want him to know that despite struggling to lift him at the mo (which will only get worse after my section before it gets better) I still love him!

Updated babies list:

Dal - Ryan
Kiansmum ? Chelsea Alana
Monalisa ? Moran
Buffy - Scarlette Grace
LES ? Zach Charles Michal
Lisa ? Jasmine Leigh
Mumpbump ? Joseph Alexander
Betsycoe ? Edith Mary
Jersey ? Thomas Michael

Any news from Floria or Kezza?

alicet · 26/09/2007 18:55

Cross posted inzi - nothing wrong with being a kid - one of the best things about having a boy is all the great toys!! Sometimes think dh and I like them more than Sam! Enjoy!!!

Forgot about buffy being Floria's text buddy.... Fingers crossed all well for both of them but agree we might not hear for a while. Fair call I think!

J2OBABY · 26/09/2007 19:06

he he, glad i'm predictable

dd has just made me laugh, i've printed her some words off for her to practice for choir, but told her not to do it down here as i've got headache and she looked at me and said, quite earnestly 'but why, i'm a beautiful singer'
HA, sh'es an awful singer and it grates on me! if i could be bothered to get off the couch, i'd take the words off her and rip them up then take her mouth up.

inzi-i love my xbox, but still haven't set up since i moved yet and don't think i could play it with the carpal tunnel
hope you have fun
