My meeting with the consultant midwife was brilliant

She basically said if a woman wants MLU they will support it regardless as long as you know the risks

She wrote loads of notes in my green book and she said they are doing a whole study on why the MLU isn't used as much as it should be

She gave me their direct number told me not to call labour ward triage when I do go into labour but to call the MLU directly

And she said they aren't making husbands wait until you have been triaged to let them into the delivery suite they can stay with you the whole time

I asked about not having forceps and going straight for C-section and she said honestly to think very carefully about it because any C-section will automatically make your next pregnancy high risk but she was more than happy to promote gentle C-section if needed

LucyLucyT · 08/07/2020 13:08

I'm really pleased you are feeling better about things now. It's nice that they are letting partners stay the whole time. My hospital is still active labour only at the moment.
My midwife attempted sweep yesterday but cervix is not quite thin enough yet so just had a bit of a poke through (not sure how else to put it haha).

HairsprayBabe · 12/07/2020 06:10

Any news from anyone?

Had my social distancing baby shower yesterday it was so nice to see people ❤️

We asked for no gifts but still got innudated and now I feel really grabby 😬

Late July Due Date #2
LucyLucyT · 12/07/2020 12:25

Glad you enjoyed you baby shower @hairspraybabe 😁
I had another sweep this morning. So that's two I've had as well as an attempt on Tuesday. Nothing seems to be happening and baby is still not engaged in the pelvis so it's induction for me tomorrow. I'm quite nervous in some ways and also know I'll get emotional without my partner being with my for that first day.
But, we should be getting to see our little one in the next couple of days at least!

Harryno · 13/07/2020 01:13

@LucyLucyT how exciting! Sorry I don’t know if you know what your having, but good luck, wishing you a speedy and safe delivery! Hopefully your partner will be allowed in with you as soon as.

What is everyone’s due date? Mine is the 19th...

(and I’m still awake with insomnia and reflux) fun!

joannew4 · 13/07/2020 03:17

@harryno My due date is the 18th, really struggling with reflux as well, it's really increased the past few days and I'm shattered now. Still up at 3am with my trusty bottle of gaviscon :'(

Harryno · 13/07/2020 09:27

Ah @joannew4 it’s the pits!

I dabbled in experimenting with various home remedies last night and somehow ended up causing a similar reaction to the ‘volcano experiment’ where I burped foam for amount an hour. Grin I do not recommend apple cider vinegar, that stuff burns! I do recommend a handful of raw almonds, seems to help... but will be putting in an order today for some gaviscon perhaps.

amysara24 · 13/07/2020 09:51

@LucyLucyT good luck for today!! I hope everything goes well for you, how exciting you’ll be meeting your little one so soon! 🥰
@HairsprayBabe you look amazing - I’m glad you enjoyed your shower and got things sorted with the midwife!
I’ve had issues with mine - they’re useless basically 🙄 and they’ve cancelled all my appointments because I’m seeing a consultant this week. She literally said “well if you’re seeing the consultant we will cancel your appointment with us, and just ask the consultant if they want us to see you again the following week”... the week I’m due. They’ve still not discussed birth options or anything, so I’m just sort of winging it!
Absolutely no changes with me, aside from the bump I don’t feel any different at all so I think I’m still in for a long wait 😆

Hi folks, I just found this thread :) I'm due on the 30th.

HairsprayBabe · 13/07/2020 12:21

@LucyLucyT that is so exciting! Hope the induction is going well!

I am still carrying really high, baby is so uncomfortable under my ribs

I have another blood test this week for my iron levels again 😫

We might have a bit of movement on the house as well - still hoping to be in before baby arrives, I'm convinced I am going well past my due date into August so not panicking yet 😬

HairsprayBabe · 13/07/2020 12:23

@WeeScottishWife welcome!

I can never remember everyone's dates 😬 I'm 23rd - but am convinced baby won't be here till August

LucyLucyT · 13/07/2020 23:45

My sweeps didn't work, so had first pessary at midday today. Been getting regular tightenings for the last few hours, going to see if I can sleep! All going as it should so far. They will reexamine after 24 hours to see if I'm dilated enough to break waters 🤞 xx

HairsprayBabe · 14/07/2020 19:42

Got everything crossed for you @LucyLucyT !

Hope everything is going smoothly for you!

Missdrifter · 14/07/2020 22:38

My beautiful daughter has arrived. She is perfect in every way xx

Hope is everything going well @LucyLucyT

amysara24 · 15/07/2020 04:29

@Missdrifter massive congratulations!! I hope you enjoy these first few days with your little one and that everything is well 💗💗
@LucyLucyT I hope everything is going ok with you & your little one arrives safely if they aren’t here already 🥰

OP posts:
LucyLucyT · 15/07/2020 06:45

@Missdrifter woohoo that's fantastic news, many congratulations! Hope you and baby are doing well.

I'm still waiting for things to happen. Had to have second pessary yesterday and waiting to see what that has done today. Had what seemed quite strong contractions yesterday afternoon and last night but they then settled so I'm just getting mild cramping every 20 mins or so.
Just had a chat with the matron midwife who still thinks they should be able to break waters today 🤞🤞.

amysara24 · 15/07/2020 08:03

@LucyLucyT your wee one must be seriously comfy in there! I hope everything goes ok today, fingers crossed it all gets moving! I think the waiting is the worst part at this stage when you’re just so excited to meet them!

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 15/07/2020 09:29

Congratulations @Missdrifter ❤️

Enjoy newborn snuggles, I'm actually very excited to meet mine now, it didn't feel real for ages and it just sort of clicked in the last week... That probably makes me sound horrible!

Wow I was sure you would be well on your way by now! Did you get your bishops score @LucyLucyT ? I think inductions are more successful if you have a score of 5 or higher.

WeeScottishWife · 15/07/2020 09:59

My tummy was tight almost all day yesterday, lots of period-type aches low down... and now things seem to have settled & relaxed again. I know I'm not at 38 weeks quite yet (that'll be Thursday) but I was starting to get my hopes up!

amysara24 · 15/07/2020 10:36

@WeeScottishWife where abouts in Scotland are you? I’ll be off to Forth Valley when the time comes! That’s a good sign though, getting some practice in 😊
I’m 39 weeks today - have a growth scan / fluid volume check today then an appointment with the consultant so might have more of an idea what’s going on by later today 🤞🏽 Though I’m not convinced it’ll all be booked properly because they seemed so scatty 😂

Fiona1987 · 15/07/2020 10:36

Hi, I hope everyone is doing okay. I'm 38 weeks today, first time mom, and I really hope the baby comes early xx

LittleMrsMama · 15/07/2020 10:37

Congratulations @missdrifter - I hope you enjoy this special time with your little one

Good luck @lucylucyt I hope the rest of your induction goes well and the baby arrives soon. I'll be in for an induction on Friday (my due date) but really hoping she arrives before.

Anyone else waking up each morning feeling disappointed their baby hasn't arrived? Or annoyed throughout the day when people text and ask if the baby has arrived - or worse 'when will the baby be here' like I'm some sort of mind reader. I do appreciate their excited but it's a bit overwhelming.

I'm also still battling with what to do re Coronavirus and people holding the baby. Since the 4th July easing of restrictions lots of our close friends and family have stopped social distancing and have put themselves in very risky situations!

HairsprayBabe · 15/07/2020 12:55

I'm 38+6 now had my midwife appointment, they said they will offer me a stretch and sweep next time and book me in for an induction if baby hasn't arrived by then I'll be 40+6 so seems a bit on the early side to immediately book induction so I'll likely decline and ask for more monitoring. If baby hasn't made an appearance by 42 I'll reassess.

My parents aren't working - school teachers but my mum is vulnerable so my dad's head had him WFH to protect her, and we have broken the rules basically the whole time because they help us with food shopping and my dad drives me to hospital appointments. So we aren't going to stop them holding baby as in my book I can't see any additional risk. MIL dosn't work and has only left the house twice since lockdown. FIL works in a warehouse, so is probably the person who is most likely to have picked up the virus.

HairsprayBabe · 15/07/2020 12:58

@LittleMrsMama

Every time someone asks me if baby is here or when will they be here I just say, I think they will be late, I will still be pregnant in August.

I didn't tell my family my exact due date either I just said end of July. I don't like feeling like a watched pot so have been very vague, people were pushy in the beginning but they have pretty much shut up about it now Grin

WeeScottishWife · 15/07/2020 13:24

@amysara24 sadly not in Scotland anymore :( I grew up in Argyll & my parents still live there, but I'm in Buckinghamshire now, I picked a very London-centric industry to work in!

@LittleMrsMama I'm also feeling a bit disappointed in the mornings, and like I'm kind of just killing time through the day. Trying not to get frustrated or depressed, and make myself relax and treat it like a holiday instead, but I'm not very good at it.
