Hi everyone
can i ask how many of you tested early and got bfn, and then tested agin after af didn't arrive and got a bfp then.

The reason that i ask is beacuse i weekened this morning and did a test and it was bfn my af is due fri/sat and am realy hope that i could still be in the running, and that i just tested to early !!!

sweetbean · 12/09/2007 09:15

Oh i ment to also add

massive congratulations to you all i really hope theres still a chance i will be joining you xxxxx

IndigoBlue · 12/09/2007 10:14

Welcome chuffed and congratulations!

Hi Sweetbean, I think it can depend on how sensitive the test is that you used as some are better at detecting early than others. From what I've made out the tests only claim to be 99% accurate from the day your period is due so you could still get a positive in a few days time. Good luck!

hunnychild · 12/09/2007 10:58

Hi Sweetbean,

you could definitely still be in with a chance. Even the tests that advertise a +ve result 4 days before your period is due are only just over 50% accurate then, increasing as the date your period is due gets closer, so you could have easily got a bfn when you are in fact pg. How do you feel, have you had any symptoms?

Fingers crossed for you

jacobandlysette · 12/09/2007 12:43

Hi everyone - stats list updated.

Emmsy - hugs for you I really feel for you

Chuffed - where are you? DH is from wellington and PILs live there still.

Booking appointment was as last time - yes peeing into the pots!!! And had loads of blood taken - they are monitoring for pre-eclampsia already as my bp was up (but pretty normal for me). Worryingly though i have put on 4kg since i weighed myself before getting pg. seem to remember this happened last time and then weight was ok until i bloated up like a whale with the pre-eclampsia.

Also revised EDD to 29th April so can I stay as well please??? If last time is anything to go by then this one will be early anyway - probably sometime in early march.

anyway, not much else to report here except am getting more sicky feeling in the middle of the night, and DS seems more than ever on the go competely which is just knackering me out!

Hi it turned out not to be a water infection but it's probably just things growing, they're giving me a seven week scan in 2 weeks anyway. Can't wait!! I'm so hoping they have a heartbeat that early.

Mollymawk- haha yeah a race, mind you, they've changed it to 12th May now so I'm already on a headstart lol.

sweetbean · 12/09/2007 14:19

Hi hunnychild
i have been feeling odd i.e a bit sick bloated, bunged up and i have been getting v bad headaches which i never get,but i had no symptoms at all with my dd untill i was 8 weeks so still hope i hope !!!!!

walkingwomb · 13/09/2007 12:17

Hey everyone!

Nice to see the chat getting really busy!! I have been super busy with work and not had the chance to come on in a few days. Congrats to all the new people.

I had a doctor's appointment on Monday, but wasn't very exciting. She just asked a few questions and then said I would be referred to the midwife - so waiting for her call.

On the symptom side, my nips are sore, I am very very tired and today I have been hit by the most unbelievable hunger.

Today I burst into tears at work - which is horribly embarrassing. Things are a bit stressful but have never cried before. Not sure it goes with my position of authority! Luckily everyone thinks I am stressed about having to give someone the boot.

Other people in Scotland - I have been told I am only getting one scan on the NHS. Is that the same for everyone??

Walkingwomb - I'm going to the Princess Royal in Glasgow. My m/w from my local surgery phoned me today and said I should hear from them soon for a 12 week scan.

My ds was born in Herts. Had an early scan at 7/8weeks with him because of bleeding and then 20 weeks I think.

Then we moved back up north when I was 10 weeks pg with dd, so it was 17 weeks until I got my one and only scan in Scotland.

Maybe you get offered more if you're "elderly' ie over 35 or looking for an anomaly scan. I just got loads of blood tests with dd and only one scan. That was 2005.

JackBlackRoady · 13/09/2007 19:39

Hi all, terrible day today, spotting all day and so tired, so thirsty, always needing a wee... being a teacher can't always go when I need to! Then had a meeting with the assistant head and cried! Oh god, want to just crawl into bed... but feel a bit better now I let all that out to you guys. Don't want to whine on to DH when he's at work on a late shift, and no-one else knows, so i appreciate mumsnet xxx

monthlymayhem · 13/09/2007 22:09

walkingwomb - I'm gatecrashing from the March thread. I'm under Argyll & Clyde authority going to the RAH and we get dating/nuchal scan at 12 weeks and anomaly scan at 18-20 weeks. However I know other parts of Scotland are different e.g. Southern General is one scan only, so think it just depends where you live unfortunately...

bramblina · 13/09/2007 23:45

Hi, I'm up north on west coast, so go through Raigmore in Inverness, and we only get one scan there at 12 wks.

Sorry folks going to rant here...
Popped in to the surgery yesterday to pick up someone's prescription and the receptionist (who is also a friend) asked me for another urine sample, last week's was "too weak". She can be a gently dramatic friend, would rather see me panic than calm down and likes to think she knows everything as she works in the surgery. So I asked her weak in what she said the hormone. I went to put prescription in car while dr got tube and envolope (have to post it as am so far away from hosp) and she met me in the hall on my way back, asked did I know what that meant? I have had 4 miscarriages and a ds, I thought I was quite aware, she has 1 ds and has had investigations so yes may know a lot from personal experience but is in no position to question how much I was aware of, let alone offer info. I said, that I may not be as far on as I thought, she said no, hesitated, that the pregnancy may not be strong enough. Needless to say I was upset and shocked, to be told this of all things, and by a friend who really shouldn't take more to do with me than give me a pot to wee in.. Stopped halfway home to phone mw quite upset and she tried to reassure me. She spoke to dr and phoned me as soon as I got home, he was also quite reassuring, as it was simply a midday test at 5 wks it may just not have enough hormone. Then bugger me last night had awful sleep and dreamed I miscarried, I can't believe I'm just adding to the stress! Thismorning phoned mw and broke down (Dh was in France) I had slight sore stomache and no sore boobs, didn't know if I felt sick from stress or morning sickness, so she tried to get me a scan, however as we're so far away and it may end up being inconclusive, they usually have to re-scan at 7 wks they said almost pointless but they will do a blood test and repeat it on Sat to see if hormone levels are increasing. But of course they have to be posted so won't be recieved till Mon/ Tues so another week till I get anywhere. To top it all I have dh's cousin's fiancee throwing a fit at me because I can't go to her sodding hen night in Newcastle because the train times don't suit and I'm not prepared to leave ds for 2 nights and I'm trying to run a business and have no money! want to tell her to get a grip. Hen night is a whole othere story would love to share but not sure you want to hear it!

So, I'm pretty and confused. After ds's pg was so fine I had a slight bit of confidence that I may be ok this time, I'm almost angry with myself for rushing to the dr and ended up not seeing my normal dr who wouldn't have sent off a urine sample and I would be none the wiser here!

If anyone can shed any light on hormone levels I'd be grateful. But am already grate ful for you allowing me to rant!

walkingwomb · 14/09/2007 09:28

Bloody hell Bramblina - what on earth was your friend thinking off?? If i was the doctor i would sack her for running around telling patients a load of bollocks. What a stupid thing to do. No wonder you are so upset. I can' actually shed any light on it all but it sounds a bit stupid to me. And ignore your DH's cousin's missus - she is being a knobhead, as people can sometimes be when they are getting married.

I am feeling quite angry about it all for you.

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the scan. The doctor told me she thought the 20 week scan (which i don't get) is quite important. Is it worth paying for this and does anyone know how much it is.

toffeecrisp · 14/09/2007 12:38

Hi

I'd like to join you.

I just got BFP on Monday.

Brief history of me, got DD who is nearly 18 months old. Had mc in May but am trying to put that to the back of my mind.

Read through all the messages yesterday and plucked up the courage to join today.

I wasn't ttc as I'm getting married in December but it happened and we're delighted it has.

There is only me and DP that know and I'm not telling anyone until after 1st scan.

toffeecrisp · 14/09/2007 13:14

Forgot to say I think my due date is 18th May 2008

Welcome toffeecrisp! and congratulations on your BFP.

Bramblina for you at your friend. Completely inappropriate behaviour. I can't be much help with hormone levels - but trying to stay calm (difficult I know) will be the best thing you can do. You have completely done the right thing re calling the mw and the doctor, and if you can get a scan even if it doesn't show very much it will help put your mind at rest. It certainly did with me when i was spotting at 5 weeks.

was horribly sick last night after really wanting to eat Indian food. so none of that for me for the next few months. nearly threw up when i opened the bin this morning and could smell the cartons

not much else - have a great weekend everyone

Thanks guys, your support means a lot! Feeling nauseous today and I think my boobs are sore (if I squash them)! Trying really hard to find some symptoms to convince myself! Feeling slightly more confident today but still with those, as you say, knobheads!!!

Have a good weekend everyone.

J&L bummer about indian food, there's nothing worse than when you wnat to want something but you really don't want it!-??

hi all..turns out my EDD is 28th April! is ok if I stay!? seemed to have confused dates. Sorry to come on for a moan but am absolutely shattered..have had a full week back of teaching and can barely keep eyes open, morning sickness has kicked in and to top it all have now got a huuuge cold sore (haven't had one in years!!) Anybody have any adice on how to treat them? lots of treatments can't be used in pregnancy. does it mean I'm run down?

bramlina..hope you are feeling ok..your friend sounds like a bit of a nightmare.

hope everyone gets their feet up this weekend..!

mumofk · 14/09/2007 19:50

Hi all, hope we're all not feeling too rubbish, but I've got evening sickness (gets slightly better when dd in bed so might be slightly stress related?)!.
Walking womb- its up to you about paying for the anatomy scan- its for checking the anatomy of baby- its better for some things than others (sorry, the only stats I can remember are quite depressing that only 25% of major cardiac problems are picked up when we scan at 20 weeks) so I guess it depends what kinds of problems you are worrying about.
An earlier scan with blood tests can be used to test for Downs, and another earlier scan is the nuchal test- which is used in combination with blood tests -allegedly more accurate for risk of downs but I'm not completely convinced by it all.A thickened nuchal without other high risk things can be an indicator for cardiac problems, but its all very hard to be absolute at this early stage (IMHO). At 16 weeks some places do a kind of anatomy scan, but as its not something I do, all I can say is I wouldn't be happy saying a lot of things are normal when they can be so hard to see. If someone attends before 18 weeks for us to look at the anatomy, we work out the dates but then do the anatomy scan at 20 wks.
I'm sure you'll find a lot of information online about different tests and scans available, and its worth checking what your local clinics offer, as so many places do different things. Good luck!!

walkingwomb · 14/09/2007 20:10

mumofk - thanks for such a comprehensive answer. I think i want an excuse to get it done so i can have piccie of the baby a bit bigger. I don't want to know the sex, so that isn't a motivation. I will have a chat with the midwife when she calls.

Londonirish - i feel very sorry for you being a teacher. i have a really stressful job and am finding work very difficult. i burst into tears the other day (suppose to be a hard bitch, so not a great look) and almost told my boss. trying to be superhuman over the next while so when I tell them they don't think i am pregnant and useless.

Everyone else - congrats all new people and have a nice weekend
