@sadtoday21 - congratulations on your boy! Yes, it’s our first; is it yours?
I think the movement was almost like a thump? Great to hear though, and I’m sure the time will fly by to your scan 😊

barnyb · 11/10/2019 18:32

@sadtoday21 oh wow congratulations that's amazing!! :) I thought I was having a boy and we had the name picked out and everything 😂
is this your first child ? I went through a really worried tough time just over a week ago and I was convinced something was wrong and desperate for some confirmation and baby stopped moving for a couple days. It's just such a testing time !!! Xxxx how far are you now?

Jesskir89 · 11/10/2019 19:02

@barnyb I hope it was :) @sadtoday21 that's not long at all to wait mines 4 weeks today! Just been to the docs and they gave me my whooping cough vaccine. Also 4 weeks later had my downs results back it says lower chance but its 1 in 2800 at birth risk and Edwards and the other is 1 in 100,000 does that sound low to you all for the downs?

whiskersonkittenss · 11/10/2019 19:23

hi everyone just checking in. been so busy this week. I'm 19+2 and have been feeling the baby move every day since 18 weeks. got my 20 week scan on Tuesday, I'll be 19+6.
already know we are having a boy as had the private gender scan at about 15 weeks.

does anyone else go into scans thinking the worst?
every scan I've had I've told people before we go in, 'don't get your hopes up, the baby might be dead'. I know it's very macabre but I feel like if I don't get my hopes up then I won't be as disappointed if it's true?

SweetChillis · 11/10/2019 20:09

@sadtoday21 I've just been catching up on the thread. I'm not sure if I'm feeling the baby or not past couple days. Been getting a light tapping/bubbles popping sensation. Not sure if that's baby, gas or muscle spasms! It's my first baby so no idea what to expect.

I'm 18+5 today, 20 week scan is on 28th October so not too long to go.

Suffering with a really bad headache today (I'm a migraine sufferer) not being able to take anything is a struggle 🤯

sadtoday21 · 11/10/2019 21:55

Thanks @ELW85 and congrats to you as well!! It is also my first.

@barnyb I was just the opposite! Was convinced I was having a girl and had her name picked out, but no names in mind yet for a boy! I'm so happy with him though, just want him to grow big and strong now. It is a worrying time in between the first tri and when you start to feel movement, although I guess I've been worried all the way through really. It's a shame because it I do really want to enjoy the pregnancy but the anxiety it always there. I guess even when you start to feel movement you worry about whether its the right amount! Sorry to hear you had a worrying time recently, but very glad baby is moving about again. How far along are you? I'm 18+1 today.

@Jesskir89 those results sound really good to me! I hope the time flies by between now and your 20 week scan, it's so hard to wait and yet I also dread the scans. Are you doing any in between?

Speaking of scans, @whiskersonkittenss what you wrote is exactly how I feel. I am terrified of scans because of a bad experience, but I totally can relate to the anxiety you describe. Usually I try to listen to music beforehand in the waiting room to calm down and try to drown everything else out! I also let the midwife know I'm anxious and then they are usually especially kind and understanding. Just keep busy to distract yourself from the scanxiety and wishing you the very best of luck for Tuesday!!! I'm sure all will be well Xxx.

@SweetChillis I thought I felt some spasmy movement tonight too after dinner, but also not sure. It's so faint, I guess because baby isn't big enough yet. Still not convinced its movement at all. Yours sounds about right though - I've heard many other ladies describe it the same way. Could you possibly take a paracetamol for the headache? I think its supposed to be safe in pregnancy. Hope you feel better soon!

atomcats · 11/10/2019 22:07

@whiskersonkittenss me too. I think my twelve week didn’t help because it was in the same place where I had a miscarriage confirmed and I’m fairly certain it was the same person doing it. I had it again leading up to my 16 week midwife appointment knowing she was planning to use the Doppler. I’m imagining it’ll be the same for the 20 week too... it’s not that I’m deliberately being pessimistic, I just think knowing that someone has to be that small percentage plays on my mind. I’m hoping once movements start I’ll ease up a bit!

@SweetChillis I’m a fellow headache / migraine sufferer and today has been horrid. I’ve started seeing stars too even if I’m just sat down which is not fun. Remember that you can take paracetamol (midwife also said this when I saw her) and while it’s not the best, at least it might help a little

Jesskir89 · 11/10/2019 22:28

@sadtoday21 I had a 16 week reassurance scan last week due to prior mmc at 16 weeks so we're just gonna wait it out now as I've had 4 external scans already lol

Jesskir89 · 11/10/2019 22:29

@whiskersonkittenss I think we're all anxious until we have the scan and even that reassurance only lasts a few days

barnyb · 11/10/2019 22:53

@sadtoday21 oh god yes it's such a scary time! Yes totally agree! It's up and down all the time! Also I only stopped feeling sick at 18 weeks so I was pleased but worried because I used to cling on to my sickness as a good sign. !! Also with the movements you start to think I haven't felt her move in a few hours! Something must be wrong!! I will worry until she is in my arms! And then I guess the worry starts again with all the new baby woes! aghhhh! also in regards to not feeling baby, I read if your placenta is at the front of your belly then you won't feel baby until baby is bigger because it acts like a barrier so the placenta will be getting those kicks and pushes instead of your belly !
I'm 19+5 ❤️❤️

barnyb · 11/10/2019 23:01

@whiskersonkittenss in this pregnancy iv lost count of how many scans iv actually had. From the regular scans to the reassurance and then the private scans! Each and every one has been terrifying from past and recent experiences.
However I have my next scan on Thursday and I will be 20+3. if the movements I'm having stay regular and strong then I think this will be the one where I go and looking forward to seeing my girl ❤️ I hope ur scan goes well

whiskersonkittenss · 12/10/2019 00:01

thanks everyone. yes I have lost babies before and when I was 13 weeks I had a huge bleed and was shocked when the emergency scan confirmed he was still ok.

I feel so anxious, I don't look forward to scans and feel panicky the day and night before. then whoever is with me gets the 'don't get your hopes up' chat and I feel worse. a PP was right, the reassurance from a scan for me lasts a few days then I'm back to worrying.
I'm sure everything will be ok as I still feel him moving, wish I could shut my brain off sometimes!!

here he is at 15ish weeks, really hoping to get a better 3d scan when he's bigger!

blondie87 · 12/10/2019 07:09

So exciting that some of you have had scans! I’ve got my 20 week scan on Tuesday and can’t wait!!

Re. Cots I had a snuzpod for both my boys which was awesome but I had a big clear out after DS2 as I was sure I was done and now I’m majorly regretting that decision. My SIL is kindly lending hers- phew!

Yvonne1988 · 12/10/2019 09:21

Just got my daughter to feel a little kick 💖 took ages, it's been active all morning but not when her hand was there

satsumasaturday · 12/10/2019 09:34

Morning all, I've been around this week and trying to keep up with the thread but not had time to respond. I'm 19+2 today, had my scan yesterday and everything looked fine, very relieved. And we're having a boy! Not sure how I'll cope living with two of DH 🙈
Went into scan fairy nervous as still not convinced I've felt any movement and I'm not showing at all (still in my jeans). The sonographer said my plancenta is at the front so that explains why I haven't felt anything and that it'll happen eventually and not to worry. So hopefully that puts some of you other ladies that are worrying's minds at rest

@whiskersonkittenss yes I definitely have gone into all three scans thinking the worst - the guy next to me yesterday didn't quite know what to say when I made a similar

@SweetChillis I've had bad headaches too, having not suffered previously. I've been using 4head which is a stick you apply like lip balm to your head which relieves it a bit and is safe in pregnancy, then using paracetamol when they get really bad.

Jesskir89 · 12/10/2019 10:10

@satsumasaturday congratulations on your scan and having a boy!

maria94 · 12/10/2019 19:40

Can you feel baby when you push on your stomach or am I feeling something different?!
I'm almost 20 weeks and I could feel her moving so I pushed gently on my stomach and it was really hard as if I was poking her head or something lol but I thought she was much more tucked away than that! What could it be? X

Yvonne1988 · 12/10/2019 19:59

@maria94 your uterus. Iv felt mine for ages. It changes where it is sometimes too. And sometimes it goes so hard I wonder if it's pushing it's back against it.

maria94 · 12/10/2019 20:03

@Yvonne1988 that would make sense! It went crazy hard for a few seconds on my left side which I haven't had before.. must be a sign baby is getting big!

Yvonne1988 · 12/10/2019 20:33

@maria94 I hate it when it goes hard it's so uncomfortable. I never had Braxton Hicks first time and now I notice them all the time.

maria94 · 12/10/2019 20:43

@Yvonne1988 it's weird pressure feeling isn't it. Going to be weird to get used to!

Yvonne1988 · 12/10/2019 21:06

@maria94 it's a tiny reminder of what's to come.

avocadoincident · 13/10/2019 08:56

Re. Sleeping arrangements we are putting the baby straight in a full size cot in our room and when they nap downstairs they'll be in the carry cot but on the pram.

Keyboard91 · 13/10/2019 14:44

@Dinosauraddict I hope you are okay my lovely.

Haven’t had chance to catch up - moves so fast!
Private gender scan booked for 26th Oct (when I’ll be 18 weeks). Anomaly scan is Nov 13th.

Have my 16 week MW appointment tomorrow so nervous about that one. Do they take as long as the booking appointment?

Sleeping - We have got a next to me to have next to the bed. It’s folds down so can be taken away on our holiday in July.

Think I’ve felt random little movements since 14 weeks. No pattern, some days I feel nothing. Have an anterior placenta so assumed it was in my head, but MW and consultant both said everyone is different so could well be. Had the first very obvious movement on Friday so looking forward to feeling that again.

Looks like I’ll be signed off for the remainder of the half term, so trying to focus on that being a positive.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday’s xx

@keyboard91 i16 week appt is about 15 mins. Just make sure everything is filled in check urine and BP. I had a few questions which probably made it longer. My midwife said it was time to try find a heartbeat but it seems all areas differ on this one.

I'm signed off til November at the moment and I'm alright but the way things are with my awful boss I might try get signed off til the last day before Christmas break then the day Im due back my maternity starts. I don't get paid. I'd leave completely but I'm holding out for maternity allowance.
