Another new thread!! Perhaps the last ante...? Will add a link to the September babies next too...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SJP3 · 17/09/2019 16:37

@KnobJockey that's great news! My due date is Friday and I was booked in for a sweep the following Monday but I've begged to change it to Friday. Waiting to hear if they can fit me in. Come on out baby!!! Hoping that'll do it.

I feel so guilty as I've probably only got a few days left with my toddler just us, but I'm dreading tomorrow and Thursday (his no nursery days) as I'm so wiped out by the end. He's such a good boy but at 20 months, he just wants to run and play. I was in tatters last Thursday night - just cried as couldn't sleep and bump hurt so much from overdoing it.

Are you all decided on names or waiting to meet the little ones before you fully commit?

KnobJockey · 17/09/2019 16:41

No names sorted here SJP, have you? Ooh, 20 months is a hard age- too young for benign neglect at soft play? Can you rope in any help?

SJP3 · 17/09/2019 16:51

We keep changing our minds with names. DS1 is Edward which we love, and going with another super traditional name feels a bit safe but the more 'out there' ones we like are quite marmite. We'll definitely wait to meet him before being sure.

My mum might be able to take him for a couple of hours tomorrow - I will try! She will if she can.

We have a soft play toddler class on Thursday - I go with a good friend and her son who's the same age and I know she'll help if I'm struggling. Hopefully it won't be as bad as last week. I made the mistake of trying to go to costa after the class with my friend - we barely sat down... both boys desperately seeking mischief! Edward nearly got into the staff kitchen several times the little tyke! Won't be doing that again.

yevans · 17/09/2019 16:53

39 exactly today and had my midwife appointment. She's booked me for a sweep for next Wednesday at 40+1 if baby hasn't appeared yet.

Anyone got any advice on what to expect for a sweep? Never had a smear or anything like that before so not sure what I'm going in to aah!! Are they as uncomfortable as they sound??

Puglover88 · 17/09/2019 16:53

@DustyDoorframes that’s great that you don’t need the insulin! Ditto to needing a good night sleep - oh to get a full 8 hours with no interruptions would be bliss!

@knobjockey that’s great news, get bouncing on that ball! Does that mean that your baby’s head is fully engaged then? I was gutted when my MW said yesterday that my baby’s head is only 2/5! 😩

@SJP3 do you have someone who can come and help you with your toddler so that you’re not doing all the running around? We’re 99% sorted on a name but haven’t shared it with anyone yet.

SJP3 · 17/09/2019 17:09

@yevans I only had 1 with DS1. My waters had already broken, I was in hospital and it was probably my 3rd or 4th examination to check how dilated I was. I didn't notice it feeling any different to the cervix check to be honest. The midwife didn't get my consent for it either - she just told me she'd done it which was a bit of a surprise!

As for how those felt - first was bloody awful and I couldn't believe I hadn't been offered any gas and air for it, but it was so painful because of the position it was in - the midwife had to get behind it to check what it was doing which is why it was so bad. It got progressively easier and easier and I barely noticed anything by the last one.

I'm going to take DH with me for the sweep if his work will allow in case I'm very crampy afterwards so I don't have to drive.

KnobJockey · 17/09/2019 17:23

@yevans I've got to say that they are uncomfortable, but so is pushing a baby out so needs must! It's a case of knees down on the sides to make everything accessible, glove on and have a reach in with a couple of fingers to see if babies head is in place and pressing against the neck of the cervix. If it is, then they try to seperate the membranes, so move that plug about, and kind of irritate it all to get the hormones racing and get it all started. This bit does hurt a little, as you'd imagine, but nothing you can't handle.

KnobJockey · 17/09/2019 17:31

Puglover she didn't actually say how engaged I was, but as this is number 2 they move in and out anyway. I'm actually surprised baby is that low, as in terms of the bowling ball feeling, I've definitely felt more engaged at other times in the past few weeks. She did however say the baby is big and is filling all of the bump, so it doesn't surprise me it's heads in place- there's not too much choice for it!

yevans · 17/09/2019 17:33

I suppose it's nothing compared to giving birth!! Do I need to take a pad or something for after the sweep do you reckon?

KnobJockey · 17/09/2019 19:16

I've put on a liner beforehand, and I'm glad I did- Ive lost a bit of brown blood afterwards.

BBell2 · 17/09/2019 19:42

@SJP3 I've just done 4 days with my just 3 year old, on so pleased she will be in nursery tommorrow! She has boundless energy, we went to a water park today to energy burn, she did the best doggy paddle ever, never done unsupported and managed a 1.5hr session. If we hadnt had that planned it would have been a long slow walk!
We dont have names yet, will be painfull those first few days to sort one but being team yellow its painful on one gender then or two now!

I'm getting so excited about the slightest hint of a labour sign - lost a smidge of plug and had a mega "clear out" earlier and was dancing round the kitchen. If I'd had my elective I'd have been having it Thursday, recon I'll regret that!

SJP3 · 17/09/2019 20:07

Wow @BBell2! That's good going at the water park! Hats off and I hope you have a well deserved rest tomorrow if you can.

This late on with DS1 I was up on the ladder cutting in, and down on my knees painting skirting boards. It was uncomfortable but I could manage. This time, I just need to sit down!

I'm exactly the same desperately searching for any labour signs... Starting to think it's never going to happen.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 17/09/2019 20:18

@SJP3 I feel your pain! I have a just turned 2 year old and feel horrible for counting down the days until Thursday (she goes to nursery thurs and fri), i then have my section booked for next Monday. I love her to bits but all I want to do is rest and she really didn't get the memo!

SJP3 · 17/09/2019 20:39

No memos for these small ones! His latest is refusing to walk up and down the stairs after being obsessed with doing just that for months. I'm huffing and puffing carrying him, baskets of washing and of course, the epic bump up and down.

Glad I'm not alone with the count downs to nursery days. Feel a bit better!

DustyDoorframes · 17/09/2019 23:03

My three year old has suddenly decided she needs a hand to hold on the stairs, and for me to stand in the bathroom for her to use the potty, it's driving me round the bend. Lots more of that in store once The Baby is here, no doubt, and I've already run out of patience...
@SJP3 I'm impressed you are able to carry anyone up the stairs let alone stuff as well!

DustyDoorframes · 17/09/2019 23:06

Sorry posted too soon... @KnobJockey fingers crossed the sweep works it's magic!
@yevans I don't find sweeps too bad, and to be honest I don't find labour too bad either, it varies person to person (and sweep to sweep!)
I'm cleared for sweeps from Friday when the MW is coming round...

challengeyourreality · 18/09/2019 02:38

Can't sleep tonight due to horrendous stomach acid reflux. It burns so badly. Started last night and has barely let up all day Sad Not a single bit was had and now 41 weeks and boom.

Hello to all the new names on the thread.

@Senners I have also been steadily leaking throughout the day (yuck). They tested if it was my waters but nope, just plain old urine.

Going in this morning for them to place a balloon as I have 0 dilation. Scared to google it so don't know what to expect. Keep hoping she will spontaneously appear. Please baby, you are so big now, it's time!!

yevans · 18/09/2019 04:46

@challengeyourreality I'm joining you in the sleepless night. Up with small cramps/contractions maybe every 15 mins. Not very painful, just annoying and stopping me sleeping!!

Hope all goes well today for you, can't help on what to expect I'm afraid!

Moraxella · 18/09/2019 04:50

Got seriously bad period pain that lasts 1min every 7-10mins since 11pm, haven’t slept. There’s no tightening just insanely painful. Too scared of wasting their time to ring the ward so waiting it out 😩

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/09/2019 05:28

Ooooo am up feeding the baby!

How are you getting on now @moraxella? And @yevans?

Hope you get some sleep challenge

pinkpig381 · 18/09/2019 07:21

Did anybody get lower back ache before labour? Since yesterday evening I've had that dull ache as if I'm due on my period, hoping it's something happening but could also be pressure from the bump! This waiting game is relentless 😩

Senners · 18/09/2019 07:47

How's everyone's movements at 38 weeks +? I went in last week for reduced movements, was all fine. I've been in 3 times over the pregnancy, baby seems to have quiet days which is extremely stressful for me! One thing I'm so ready to be over with is worrying about movements 😞

KnobJockey · 18/09/2019 07:56

Very much quiet days and hectic days senners. Not so much a pattern. I find that trying to eat something works best, as you can guarantee that as soon as I sit up to eat it will move a leg or foot to my ribs to make me sick.

KnobJockey · 18/09/2019 08:03

How are you doing this morning everyone? @Moraxella, @yevans, @pinkpig381? Is it developing to anything? Pinkpig, I'm not in labour yet, but I've had period pains/mild contractions every other evening for about 2 weeks and it turns out I'm 2cm dilated. Well, I say I'm not in labour, fairly sure I am in early labour, but it could be one of those that lasts a day or last another 2 weeks!

Just lost some more of my plug, have been doing since the sweep yesterday. Lots of period type uncomfortableness, and less regular sharp pains inside my crotch, which I'm assuming is the baby trying to wear its way out a little! Bum also has some achy pressure, kind of like I've been sat on it for too long at a funny angle.

yevans · 18/09/2019 08:04

Managed to get back to sleep and all cramps have worn off again. This is so frustrating!!
