OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello @pinkpig381 might not be too much longer for you then!

Tip of the day: do not bounce on your birthing ball in just your knickers, just tried to get up and the ball was stuck to my legs. Pulling it off of my skin was like taking off a plaster! 😬🤦‍♀️

SJP3 · 16/09/2019 17:29

Huge congratulations @Exitstrategist! Well done you!

@DustyDoorframes that's a toughy. Any chance she could rearrange it or would that make it even trickier for DP to attend?

If it helps, my DH is going to be away with work tomorrow - not quite as long away. It's a 6 hour round trip plus time to do the work (probably 3-4 hours) and we're chancing it won't be tomorrow.

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/09/2019 18:10

Dusty if you went in to labour how soon could he be back?

Puglover88 · 16/09/2019 18:25

@DustyDoorframes that is a bit tricky! Can he agree to go but cancel if you start to feel impending labour symptoms beforehand?

DustyDoorframes · 16/09/2019 19:39

Eep @Puglover88 note taken re ball bouncing in pants...
@SJP3 sadly the appointment is not rearrangeable at all, which is a pain. @decaf if I started while he was away it's pretty much a dead cert he'd miss it, I labour fast. Although I also seem to labour at night, both DC were born about 1am. I actually think his mum's need is greater than mine in that circumstance, especially as my mum would be here for childcare. I could have a friend on standby as backup labour partner, or just cope, I have brilliant midwives. The kids' needs would trump everyone's if I'd given birth in the night before though.
@Puglover88 I think that would finish her off, she's very anxious. The opposite might work better, saying he's not going to be make it but doing a last minute dash if things work out??? Ouf, it's such crap timing. Thank you! Input is helping!

Puglover88 · 16/09/2019 19:59

Ah ok! What’s his view on it?

Puglover88 · 16/09/2019 21:08

iano · 16/09/2019 22:52

Congrats all on the new arrivals!! Lovely!! Hope you're all doing ok?

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/09/2019 22:56

Dusty i think perhaps the say he cant go but if your not in labour send him with her plan may be best. I would not bank on having a fast labour again though, dc5 took more than three times longer than dc3 or 4 here!

DustyDoorframes · 16/09/2019 23:59

Pug he initially thought no way, but she does need the support, so he's trying to figure out what is possible.
Decaf I am not copying your labour 5 if I can possibly avoid it, heh! (But yes, definitely can't count on it being in any way predictable...)

Puglover88 · 17/09/2019 06:02

@DustyDoorframes it sounds like you’re leaning towards your OH going and if you’re happy with the back up plan of having a friend as labour partner, and you have your mum for childcare then that’s a positive.

Also, unless you’re really unlucky with timings, chances are nothing will happen whilst he’s away anyway - just have a stern word with your bump! Me and my bump have an agreement that she’ll be out by 40 weeks!

Dipsy77 · 17/09/2019 08:43

Congrats all in new arrivals they are coming thick and fast now x
Yesterday was a bit of a let down and I was really disappointed with the hospital.
We were taken to a side room on a ward so OH could stay which was greaT.
We got there for about 12 am. We were told ruby would have obs every 4 hours and could hopefully go home in the morning.
They did her obs every 4 hours till 12pm. We were told in the morning we needed the baby check and could go. We were chasing all day as we were running out of things and got down to our last bottle of milk. Baby check didn't happen till 4pm by which point I'd been in tears because I couldn't cope with the stress felt like prison. The baby doctor was very young and couldn't find a pulse in baby's leg we were told the registrar would come through but she also said I think you need to stay in another night due to oxygen levels yesterday. At which point I kicked off and said we r going home she is fine and we haven't had any further monitoring since 12pm! The registrar finally arrived at 6.30pm and we were told all was ok and we could go. After such a lovely birth experience yesterday spoilt it a bit, we didn't get home while after 8pm so couldn't really get ourselves ready and into a routine.
I'm also in agony aching everywhere TMI but my bum is killing so much pressure feels like I've broken something !, when her head crowned felt like a bowling bowl hurt more there than where she came out of !!
I've also been given injections for risk of blood clots due to age, has anyone else had these ? My OH has a fear of needles so not sure how we are going to get round it I may have to see if there is an alternative I can have
Sorry for long post but needed a bit of a rant !

Puglover88 · 17/09/2019 09:43

@Dipsy77 sorry you’ve had a disappointing experience in the hospital, unfortunately it seems to be a bit of a recurring theme with these September babies! Glad you’re home now, hopefully you can get into a bit of a routine today.

Somebody recommended those instant freeze perineal cold packs that they sell on Amazon so I’ve ordered some of those - apparently the coolness provides relief for pain afterwards.

IVEgottheDECAF · 17/09/2019 10:04

dipsy is it more of an internal bruised bone kind of feeling with your bum? If so i had that badly this time i assumed due to 9lb1 baby! Anyway i am on day 10 now and that pain went a couple of days ago!

Dipsy77 · 17/09/2019 11:30

@IVEgottheDECAF ** yes that is def what it feels like plus a bit numb too !! Hopefully it will clear in a few weeks then I'm petrified of trying to go to the loo though don't feel as if my muscle would keep anything on to be honest Im weeing fine and it's not stinging but not sure about the other ! X

IVEgottheDECAF · 17/09/2019 11:40

dipsy its normal for it to be a couple of days until you do a number two, as long as you keep drinking plenty of water etc you should be ok

SJP3 · 17/09/2019 13:49

@Dipsy77 you could start taking a gentle laxative daily (I used fibogel with DS1 and will do again and it's safe to take whilst BF) which will make it a bit easier. Also, when the time comes to do your first post partum poo, take a nice padded sanitary towel and hold it to you whilst you, er, evacuate. It makes a big difference as makes you less worried everything is going to fall out... Hope that's not TMI! DS1 was a big boy and I was glad of both of those tips.

Senners · 17/09/2019 15:29

38 + 1 and really feeling it now. Having no signs really just the same old aches and pains as always although have been having increased pressure in bum, poo like cramp and gassy... 😩 But nothing resembling a contraction, don't even think I've had any BH. Also, tmi, but I've had to have panty liners on for months now and it's always wet down there but it's deffo not my waters, this has increased last week or so. Why am I like weeing myself a bit but don't realise? I'm just worried I'm gonna miss the real signs ... Is anyone else or has anyone had similar experiences of the above and then when did you go into labour? I'm due 30th sept. The thought of going over that is hard to process !

DustyDoorframes · 17/09/2019 15:43

@Dipsy77 sorry to hear it's been a tough 24 hours! Hoping you are managing to get settled in now.
@Senners snap on pretty much your whole post (down to the due date and the sogginess...) it's just delightful isn't it.

Diabetes clinic this morning- no need for insulin after all, hurrah! My blood sugars have settled down after being under the weather last week, so that's me pretty much signed off by them (as I'm due to be induced before a fortnight away anyhow). Feels weird and scary. I'm sick of being pregnant but not ready for the baby. Can't I just have a holiday between??? Or at least one really good night's sleep??? (Yeah right...)
Braxton hicks this morning (which I never had with the last two) and cleaning frenzy this afternoon (also don't remember that before!) so I'd better get ready for this baby ASAP.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 17/09/2019 15:56

@Dipsy77 I had to have injections to reduce the risk of blood clots after my c-section last time, and will be again (probably would have had to have them either way due to reduced mobility). My husband wasn't a big fan of doing them but thankfully isn't squeamish so did do it. I don't think there's a good alternative that isn't an injection. But you shouldn't need them for too long.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 17/09/2019 15:57

Also, depending how brave you are you may be able to do the injection yourself into your leg? I couldn't because of injuries to my leg but I believe normally arm, stomach or thigh are acceptable spots. May be worth asking someone medical?

Lavellan · 17/09/2019 16:12

@Dipsy77 I had to do the injections because of my section. By the end I found my method. I did them standing up with my leg slightly raised on a stool. I pinched a good wad of skin lightly to go in (I confess I had to look away just for a second as it goes in) and then what I found helpful was to increase the pressure of the pinch as you press the plunger. It gets nippy at the end--the pinching distracts you.

Stroan · 17/09/2019 16:14

@Dipsy77 I had to have the clexane injections. Hospital showed me to do them in my thigh but my community midwife suggested tummy. Did t feel it at all, injected about 4cms either side of my belly button.

I also asked any midwife or HV visiting to do them for me, that reduced the number of times I had to do it myself.

I'm sorry your hospital experience wasn't great, sounds like mine first time round.

KnobJockey · 17/09/2019 16:16

Due date today, just been for a midwife appointment. Normally they don't do sweeps until 41, but they can from 40 if requested...so I requested! Apparently I'm about 2cm dilated, baby is right there and ready to go, and if they needed to break my waters they could do it there and then with no problem. So she said all that's missing is the contractions! Apparently as soon as they start I'm going to be off, so walk, bounce, have sex. None of which sound like fun! But I went for an hours wander after, to show willing.

Dipsy77 · 17/09/2019 16:17

Thanks all for the advice much appreciated Smile
