Glad you have a bed @SJP3! Hopefully won’t be long now! Glad you went in @Senners looks like you might get your September birth! :)

SJP3 · 27/09/2019 17:55

I'm a 'good' 3cm, she's given me a vigorous sweep and put the gel in so let's hope it works! Midwife is lovely and very straight talking which I like. She said she could have broken my waters if she'd needed to but wants to see if we can get labour going with the gel first. I'm very crampy but ok and hopeful they'll be a baby sometime tomorrow.

IVEgottheDECAF · 27/09/2019 19:06

Overnight i reckon sjp3!

BBell2 · 27/09/2019 19:10

@dusty, nope big hard belly and cramps rather than contractions but it might have been a false start. Sure that was quite a full bloody show though so taking it as a positive.

DustyDoorframes · 27/09/2019 22:48

Sounds good SJP ! Fingers crossed for overnight (or at least for sleep while waiting...)
Argh Bbell well I guess it's all progress. Albeit slow.
Thinking of you Senners!

SJP3 · 28/09/2019 00:51

Having decent contractions from the gel. Waiting for a labour ward bed and then they'll break my waters but no idea how long that may take. Hoping for sometime in the night...

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/09/2019 02:47

Good luck sjp3!

Senners · 28/09/2019 03:22

Finally got down to 5 mins apart, been in birth centre since 11:30pm! Was 3cm on arrival. The pain at the bottom of my spine with every contraction became excruciating and not subsiding in-between contractions so am currently on codiene and had pethadine injection. Pethadine has helped allowing me few mins of rest inbetween but not helped the contraction pain in my spine. I was so certain I wouldn't have an epidural but I think I will now, I'm so so so tired. How did epidurals go for anyone? I'm terrified of having one, but also don't feel like I can go on with this unbelievable pain for much longer, and then push...

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/09/2019 03:57

senners i didnt have an epidural but can relate to the pain and exhaustion! That is how i felt in my labour! I had pethidine nearing the end and dozed between contractions, have you tried different positions to take the pressure off your back?

pinkpig381 · 28/09/2019 04:06

Our baby boy was finally born today! Didnt have an easy ride that's for sure;
Waters broken at 7.30am
Drip given at 8:45am
Contractions started coming thick and fast, I was getting 6 in 10 mins, so they gave me an injection to slow them down, it didn't work
Babies heart rate started dropping with every contraction so the red button was pressed and the room got full of people fast, turns out I had gotten from 3cm to 9cm in an hour and a half and when a doctor rushed in he checked me and said I was ready to push!
Hour and 20 mins of pushing and an episiotomy to get him out in the end! That moment he was out on my stomach was like nothing else!
Then my uterus wasn't contracting and I lost 1.3 litres of blood, eventually they managed to stop the bleed and everything calmed down 👍🏼
9lb 11oz baby boy 💙
I can't remember much of this very clearly as it was all on gas and air and it's made everything a bit foggy, so glad it's over and we have him with us 👏🏻

I need to read comments and see how everyone is doing but thought I would quickly write this up, hope all are well x

Horehound · 28/09/2019 04:43

@Senners I was glad of an epidural after I'd been in labour for 2.5 days! Unfortunately it only worked for 2 hours max because the levels they gave me rose all the way up to my neck and so they had to basically shut off the drug and then try later on to manage it. They never figured out the level I needed however I was grateful for the 2 hours pain free I experienced!
I would definitely take it again! Good luck :)

@pinkpig381 congratulations!! Wowee 9lbs 11oz..my boy is 5 weeks old and doesn't weigh that yet! well down you!! Flowers enjoy your newborn cuddles x

SJP3 · 28/09/2019 04:49

@pinkpig381 congratulations! What a ride you've had! Hope you manage some rest with your beautiful boy. Thinking of you - you must be in shock for it all to happen so quick after so much endless waiting.

@Senners I had an epidural with DS1 (I was induced with the drip and i couldn't keep up with the rate the contractions were coming). It was bloody amazing and I had a really good experience with it. Still pushed him out with lots of guidance from the midwife. Go for it!

My contractions have stopped but no bed on labour ward anyway and I'll be moved once there is one. Just trying to get the odd hour of sleep here and there.

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/09/2019 05:44

Congrats pinkpig

Congratulations @pinkpig381 !!!! What a ride! V glad you are now having newborn cuddles, phew!

Hopefully you got some rest @SJP3 , and are well on your way in labour ward now.

@Senners you have been in labour for days now, you need to do what you need to do!!!!! If an epidural is what's needed then an epidural it is! Hopefully you've had one now - or even a baby, even better.

kyles101 · 28/09/2019 10:20

@Senners I had excruciating pain in my spine too so went for the epidural. It only lasted properly about 4 hours, but for the rest and relaxation I got for that time it was well worth it. For me the back pain felt so pointless I found it really difficult to cope with. Hope you're getting on ok.

@pinkpig381 congratulations!! And a big boy!! Well done you!

Another arrival - little girl came yesterday afternoon. Bit of a drama but could have been far worse: arrived for induction 8am Thursday, initial monitoring worried them so I was moved to a private room for more observation. No need for pessary (thank you 3 sweeps!) so just on the list to have my waters broken in labour ward. They’re busy so nothing happens overnight but I do start contractions on my own.

Next morning monitoring shows more decelerations with some of my contractions so they magic up a midwife and within about 30 mins I’ve had my waters broken and hooked up to the syntocinon drip. 90 minutes later I’m contracting 5 in 10, still only 3cm dilated and realise I can’t manage hours more of this and request an epidural. Anaesthetist takes half an hour to arrive during which the gas and air isn’t really doing anything to touch the pain, then as he is explaining the risks to me I start to push, examination shows I’m now 10cm, anaesthetist is sent away and baby was born 15 mins of coached pushing later! 7lb of currently unnamed little angel and 2 rather shell-shocked parents!

kyles101 · 28/09/2019 11:28

Oh well done @Fortheloveofscience the drip is hardcore!! Hope you're thoroughly enjoying your little lady

@pinkpig381 that's a lot if loss I hope you are feeling ok with it. Congratulations!

@Fortheloveofscience yay I'm pleased for you! Amazing to get that far on in so much pain and just going for it.

I'm just getting irregular contractions and hate everyone today! OH said last night that it wasnt painful for me last time, so isnt this strange! Umm not painfull?! What room was he in it was the same but so much faster and all done on a drip.
On a side note incase anyone does this again, clary sage...its unbelievable, I can massage some onto my belly and BOOM, I would have been so cynical before this week.

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/09/2019 16:15

How good would it be to have all babies here before 1st October!

BBell2 · 28/09/2019 17:12

@ivegotdecaf, I know it make little difference in reality and others are still going strong but I was last on the list for sometime (26th) and fairly sure now my baby on it's way!

DustyDoorframes · 28/09/2019 17:19

Oooh @BBell2 that's great! Me and @Senners were the thread's laggards due on the 30th and are both delivered/in progress so we are clearly a very efficient thread!
