Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

@GinTonic123 I hadn't! Are there any specific ones I should look out for? Thanks for the tip 👍🏼

GinTonic123 · 03/09/2019 20:16

@PrincessConsuela12 - I don't think I can help with specific ones as I am based in Germany ....Aldi does a fennel/aniseed one which I like. It might be worth a try (and cheap if you decide its gross, and want to throw it away). I think Cupper Tea is from the UK, I really like the "Purify Me". Can you get that? Hope that helps.

nicoletia · 03/09/2019 20:18

@nikdan123 I'm also away in two weeks and my EDD is 12/04. I'm going for a private scan on Saturday eeek. I'm so excited.

PrincessConsuela12 · 03/09/2019 20:26

@GinTonic123 Thank you, I'll have a look around x

Ruthsoph · 03/09/2019 20:43

@GinTonic123 yes I getting one but here the dilemma - I was going to get a private scan this weekend as I would be 8 weeks and had previous miscarriages at 6 weeks - but the NIBT is from 10 weeks and you also get a scan - would you have the scan this weekend and then another at 10 weeks and then my NHS one at 12 weeks ? Or just have to 10 week one and the NHS one as it's only 2 more weeks waiting? Even though 2 weeks is a lifetime when pregnant xx

LokiCat · 03/09/2019 21:59

@Ruthsoph yeah (I had no idea until I was about to leave my booking in appointment). The 16 week appointment is a follow up with the midwife, especially as you have your official due date by then. I think some people can hear the heartbeat for the first time at that appointment as well.
12 (dating) and 20 (anomaly) week will be your scans.

Welcome @nikdan123

GinTonic123 · 04/09/2019 05:47

@Ruthsoph - sorry about the MC. I think you do whatever is best for your peace of mind. So many scans isn’t going to have any negative effect. If you can afford it, obviously.
My last pregnancy was horrific but thankfully resulted against the odds in a healthy baby - so my DH and I are very wary of any anomalies (spelling?).

Sophie91 · 04/09/2019 08:11

Hi everyone, hope you dont mind me joining in!

I'm 8+2 with my first, have no idea what I'm doing but we are very excited/terrified!

Am getting a little stressed about my appointments. I went to my GP immediately after my BFP, at approx 6 weeks. He was pretty useless, didnt explain much and sent me on my way saying someone will be in touch. I've now had a letter for my 12 week scan, great, but had no information about a booking appointment with a midwife. I have found a contact number for my community midwife office, wondering if I should be contacting them?! GP definitely didnt tell me to, but I'm so anxious and want to get the ball rolling!

Sunshine8888 · 04/09/2019 08:20

Hi @sophie91 congrats! Yes you should see the midwife before 10 weeks, it’s called a booking appointment. My doctors didn’t do anything either. I called and they told me to self refer to midwife! How are you feeling?

Pip231018 · 04/09/2019 09:25

Hey 👋🏻

Please can I join? I'm 8+3. I've got a scan on Sunday to check progress. I'm on holiday at the moment and have very little symptoms. I'm dizzy, thirsty, sore back, constipated and bloated. Which are all things you want in a hot county. Feel sickly from time to time but worried that I don't have aching boobs or my head down the toilet. Is there something wrong with me? Is this normal?

For anyone who is going on holiday, note your skin is extra sensitive as I found out on the first day 🦞

Once I've had my scan and know that there is a heartbeat (please, be a heartbeat) then will contact my midwife. I had a MMC is May that has basically made me terrified to go to a scan because ignorance is bliss!

Hope everyone else is having a good day!

Sophie91 · 04/09/2019 09:46

Thank you @Sunshine8888, I will get onto it then! 😆
I'm feeling great, very little symptoms except for my "melon boobs" as my DP calls them 🙄 so find myself taking a test every other day to make sure it's real!

Having my parents over for dinner tonight to tell them. We told the in laws last week and they were totally ecstatic (their first GC!), not expecting the same reaction from my parents as this will be their 6th!

CassandrasCastle · 04/09/2019 10:50

Another day off work Sad The thing is, I generally start to feel quite a lot better around 9pm...genuinely wondering if I should ask my manager if I should head in for a spot of 'night work' at 6ish...probably mad idea but I am freaking out and cannot remotely access work emails.
I am almost resenting the poor baby Sad

CassandrasCastle · 04/09/2019 10:51

The thought of facing colleagues is somehow impossible; guess I'm just feeling quite low right now

Sunshine8888 · 04/09/2019 11:19

I don’t understand how everyone here seems to be having early scans before 12 weeks?? are you paying for them privately?

Sunshine8888 · 04/09/2019 11:20

@Pip231018 hope you’re having a lovely holiday! Sorry about the MMC. I am so terrified of that happening 😢. I don’t have many symptoms either but I’m a bit behind you (6+6)

Sunshine8888 · 04/09/2019 11:23

@CassandrasCastle so sorry to hear you’re feeling so unwell, that must be really difficult! I genuinely don’t know what I’ll do if I start getting sickness. I’m a lawyer and have a lot of client meetings - will be awful 😱🤢

LG0914 · 04/09/2019 12:45

@Sunshine8888 I had an early mc last time so the early pregnancy unit said I could have an early 8wk scan this time round. Some people get those or they pay privately x

Pip231018 · 04/09/2019 13:37

@Sunshine8888 I'm paying for mine, I could have got one off EPU due to my previous MC but this is more convenient for me, otherwise I'd have to try and get time off work and I'm a terrible liar! The holiday is def doing me good, it's nice to relax and forget about every day responsibilities!

I know I don't have a load of symptoms but my boobs are absolutely huge - the longer the weeks go on the bigger they get!

gnat99 · 04/09/2019 14:32

@Sunshine8888 I paid for one last time because our NHS one fell on Christmas Eve, and we were going to be away with family. So we booked one at 11+3 in a local private place (Baby bond I think) so that we could have more certainty before telling both families! Then after the hols we had our rearranged NHS one back home at 13+5, so ended up with more reassurance for the nuchal test results etc.
This time I had an early one at EPU because I was in a lot of pain and knew I had an ovarian cyst that could be causing trouble. Turned out all was fine, and we got to see heartbeat at 7 weeks Smile

Now I’ve been so tempted to pay for another private one, as we’re seeing in laws next weekend when I’ll be 10 weeks, well before our dating scan at 12+6. Would love to have another private one first for reassurance! But money is tight so we will probably hold out, and just tell them anyway. Especially since we’ve already heard a heartbeat.
In some places you can get them quite cheaply just for dating/reassurance. Here it would be minimum £70.

LokiCat · 04/09/2019 15:11

Hi all 😊 sorry I've not been keeping up with this thread much!
I had some more brown/light pink spotting last night, which got me worried again as that's how my mc started last time. Headed into the EPU this morning and saw the baby and a heartbeat 🥰 Measuring 6+5, which is around what I calculated as well.
Feeling a lot more calm now that I have some reassurance about what's going on inside!

Welcome and congrats to everyone new joining!

Sorry to hear that many of you have had to go through previous mc/MMCs. I hope that these are our 🌈 babies 😊💕

@CassandrasCastle I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling so low about work etc. This is a difficult time, pls try to go easy on ypurself and just get through it best you can. If you think the working late plan might help you feel better on a once-or-twice basis, then maybe do suggest if to your boss, and if he/she thinks it’s daft then at least you’ll have shown willing!

I had my worst nausea yet at work yesterday afternoon. Had to dash to the loo twice feeling like I really might puke, but didn’t. Got virtually no work done all afternoon, felt so woozy - and I’m part time as it is, so it makes me feel so unproductive.

Welcome to the latest newbies join, there’s quite a crowd now!

PrincessConsuela12 · 04/09/2019 16:32

@CassandrasCastle @gnat99 I have been feeling really nauseous for the last day or 2 and today started drinking lemon & ginger tea, it seems to be helping a little 🤞🏽

Sunshine8888 · 04/09/2019 16:34

Aww congrats @LokiCat that must be so reassuring! I am starting to consider a private scan despite my fears ... but I might try and hold out until 8/9 weeks if no bleed before. Out of interest what did the EPU say about the spotting?

Sorbfsiabs · 04/09/2019 16:41
