Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

@LokiCat I've just checked 79 days to go for me.
I went for my growth scan on Friday. Baby was measuring 2lb10 which is on the 38th centile. I just clearly have no bump, though I feel it has grown over the weekend

Sunshine8888 · 14/01/2020 17:48

Wow double figures ladies! I’m still 109 days to go so not quite there yet. I have my 25 week midwife app on Friday. What happens at it? I don’t really have a clue about appointments past 25 weeks! Will I do a test for GD or is it only if they have concerns?

Pip231018 · 14/01/2020 20:20

@LokiCat I'm going on Friday. It depends on how bad my bloods were. Some people get put on medication straight away. But from the chat I had, I assume that they will give me advice on diet and try and hopefully I can control it that way.
I will have to take 4 blood tests a day, one when I wake, then one after each meal.
It's shitty really because it's one more clinic I have to attend and a risk to the baby. Booooo.

@Sunshine8888 at my 25 week, it was urine, heartbeat, blood pressure. I did start asking questions around birth plans and classes (but apaz they are discussed at 31 week check) x

LokiCat · 14/01/2020 22:08

@Leag1 ah how exciting!
Some people do take longer to pop than others or just have a small bump. Sounds like all is okay with the baby though, which is good.

@Sunshine8888 I'm sure that'll fly by too! I was just working it out today and I think I have about 10 weeks left till maternity leave 😱
Similar to Pip, I had a blood pressure, urine sample check, heartbeat check and she felt around for the baby's position. She's breech at the moment, but the midwife wasn't concerned and said they move around a lot right now!
They won't test for GD unless you've got a risk for it, which would have been discussed at a previous appointment. If it hasn't been brought up before then it's unlikely you're having it. They mentioned it to me at my booking in appointment due to my ethnic background. Good luck for your appointment 😊

@Pip231018 I hope the appointment goes well for you on Friday! I didn't realise you had to take that many blood tests to keep an eye on levels, wow. It is annoying that it's another clinic to attend, but from what I've read it sounds pretty manageable and most are normal pregnancies with healthy babies, so hopefully all will go okay for you.

When's everyone planning on going on maternity leave?

OP posts:
Sunshine8888 · 15/01/2020 08:19

Thanks @Pip231018 and @LokiCat for the info. I’m in the due in May group too and I’m ahead of many ladies in that one so it’s useful to also be able to consult with you ladies who are ahead of me about what’s coming up 😊 this is all very new to me!

I am officially going on maternity leave on 16 April but leaving work on the 3 April using up annual leave that has to be taken before May. I will be 36 weeks when I leave. What are others doing?

Pastnowfuture · 15/01/2020 10:03

It's hard to know how I will feel nearer the time but my current plan is to go off 3 weeks before due date using some left over annual leave.

Pip231018 · 15/01/2020 13:47

I'm leaving at the end of Feb. I'm using up all my annual leave prior to mat leave. My job is very high pressure so I decided to spend some time at home, knowing I will never get time alone again 🤣

LokiCat · 15/01/2020 20:13

@Pip231018 ah that'll be here so soon!
Just got a phone call earlier this evening that I've been diagnosed with GD as well. Also seeing the midwife on Friday to discuss everything and get the blood sugar kit. Obviously went straight onto Google after getting off the phone and have caused myself to panic now 🙈 its all so stressful!

I've just handed dates in for my mat leave today. Last day will be 27th March, just before I turn 37 weeks, so hopefully get a few weeks to myself before she arrives (well, if everything still goes to plan after today's diagnosis!).

OP posts:
CateyA · 15/01/2020 20:32

I’m due to go off on 13th Feb at the mo a week and a day before I’m due.... am I cutting it too fine? My jobs not too stressful most of the time but my commute isn’t great

Pip231018 · 15/01/2020 21:03

@LokiCat Nooooo! I am so sorry. I've just downloaded an app called MySugr so I can track my bloods and food. It will help me figure out what works for me and what doesn't.

I was tagged in a GT thread which I can tag you in too if you like. It might throw up some useful hints and tips.

@CateyA Everyone is different, do what is best for you. If your commute is bad, do you have an option to wfh? That could take some of the pressure off.

X

CateyA · 15/01/2020 22:19

Did you notice any symptoms before being diagnosed with GD? I have a family history of type one diabetes so wondering if my test will come back positive. Got another 2 weeks til the test though.

I think maybe I’ll have to go off earlier than a week before unless my energy picks up as even now I’m struggling to work a full week without feeling totally wiped out. Trying to wfh one day a week. Trying to save my annual leave at the mo as we’ve still got to move house 😫

LokiCat · 15/01/2020 22:20

@Pip231018 ah thank you for the rec, I'm just downloading the app as well! I'm so worried about figuring out what I can and can't eat, so hopefully that'll be a good start along with what the midwife suggests.
Yes please, if you wouldn't mind tagging me in the thread. Any hints and tips are very welcome.

@CateyA I agree with what Pip has said. Some people work all the way to the end and others finish early. As long as you're comfortable to continue, then do what's right for you.
HR have told me that I can change my start date as long as I give them notice in writing - could you find out if that's an option for you? So you know that you can bring it forward if need be.

OP posts:
LokiCat · 15/01/2020 22:24

@CateyA sorry cross post! From the ones I read on the NHS website, I've been needing to pee a lot more, plus the tiredness but those are symptoms of pregnancy as well, which doesn't really help.. sorry!
I have everything crossed that your test goes ok 🤞🏽
When do you guys move? Before baby comes?

OP posts:
Pip231018 · 16/01/2020 05:46

@CateyA Same as Loki. I've started to get tired again, but I'm going in to my third trimester. Also, the thirst is real. But I basically stopped drinking anything but water so the peeing comes hand in hand with that. Whenever I give us Diet Coke I always find I'm thirstier anyway so I don't actually think there is an way of suspecting you have it until the test. If you'd asked me before I'd have said there were no symptoms and I didn't 'feel' like I had it x

CateyA · 16/01/2020 08:44

Thanks @LokiCat @Pip231018

My test is on the 28th so fingers crossed. I’m 26.5 weeks now and definitely exhausted and having odd days of crazy thirst or peeing a lot but not constant symptoms. I defo been eating a fair bit more sugar during my pregnancy than my pre conception dieting days.
Oh well what will be will be and all. I’ll fego be coming back for tips if it’s positive.

Hope you both are doing ok and managing with the foods and restrictions for GD without too much worry xxxx

CateyA · 16/01/2020 08:47

@LokiCat

Our sale is creeping along but hopefully complete mid Feb and move. Luckily we’re buying a late relatives home so we can move in prior to it being bought I suspect family allowing. Unluckily we have three houses worth of possessions to sort before then!! I have a feeling I’m going to be grumpy arm chair director of all! 😂

CateyA · 16/01/2020 19:19

Gutted just revived a prescription penalty charge as I haven’t got a valid matt certificate.

Don’t judge me but I simply didn’t know it wasn’t automatic as I was pregnant.

I just said ‘I’m pregnant so I understand I don’t have to pay’ to the pharmacist and they didn’t charge me but no one asked for a form so I presumed it was organised automatically via my midwife or gp.

Neither my midwife or gp mentioned it either despite both prescribing me stuff on multiple occasions face to face.

I can get the charge waivered if I apply now but it still means I’m potentially going to have to pay £60 or so for all the prescription I’ve had during this pregnancy that I should have got free. I’ve never claimed anything ever from the state and feel really upset I’m not even going to be able to claim what I’m due because as I first time mum no one helped me know I needed to.

I don’t expect to be spoon fed information but in something so new as pregnancy I don’t know how I’m expected to know everything without guidance.

Upset, exhausted and off to bed. 😞

*recieved sorry typo

LokiCat · 17/01/2020 10:46

@Pip231018 how did you find your appointment?
The midwife reassured me a lot and made it seem so much more manageable than I thought it would be.
Got a 28 week scan now to check baby's growth on the 29th. Clinics are every two weeks, so definitely a lot more visits but think they'll just end up taking over my normal midwife ones as she said they do the same checks.

@CateyA ah I'm so sorry that you've got a penalty charge! No judgement, I didn't know we'd need a certificate to say we're exempt from the prescription charges. My midwife gave me mine at my booking appointment and they should have explained it to you as well. There's no way for us know otherwise! I hope they're able to waive the fee and they can backdate your certificate from when you first found out so you don't have to pay for anything!
I hope you're feeling better today?
Re moving - I don't blame you for wanting to sit on a seat and direct what needs to be packed/moved. I'm so tired these days, couldn't even imagine having the energy to do all that! I hope the sale is completed soon!

Hello all.

Haven't posted here in awhile. I'm taking annual leave from 36 weeks and my maternity will start from 38 weeks. Although have to come in to do an exam at 37 weeks :( As long as the baby hasn't arrived by then!
So trying to study and research up on what to buy for baby and all that comes with it. Not enough hours in the day!

Pip231018 · 17/01/2020 18:35

@LokiCat Hey, it went ok. I was with a maternity support worker, she was lovely but kept forgetting what she was doing. But I have to go back next week and to see a consultant, nurse and I've also got to see a dietician. They said expect to be there for a while. Eurgh.

I have taken bloods once already and they were quite low, so my sister said I hadn't had enough carbs. I did it wrong 3 times and kept getting some weird reading, then realised it was upside down. Dear me.

I have a growth scan on 29th too. It was 28th, but I've been moved to a diabetes scan - didn't know there was a difference! X

Pip231018 · 17/01/2020 20:49

I've got 3 large red bumps on my face. I never get spots, they don't have heads. Just raised and sore and massive. Like the size of a pound coin, one on the side of my nose, one on my jaw line and one next to my ear. I've googled it but can't find anything that looks similar. Anyone else had experience of this? X

CateyA · 19/01/2020 12:20

@Pip231018

Could they be bites? If they’ve suddenly popped up? I’m not sure why bites at this time of year but I’m sure there’s something

Pip231018 · 19/01/2020 13:10

@CateyA I ended up at the walk in centre after the pharmacists didn't know what it was. Plus my eye is bright red and swollen. It has got progressively worse so called 111 who booked me in as urgent. I'm on two lots of antibiotics. One for shingles and one for my skin as they don't know what's going on. It's not been the best week! 🤣
