Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

I definitely am a lot less tired than I was first trimester but I still find that after a long day I'm really pooped by about half 8. I am getting quite a lot of back pain but it's not everyday and I booked my first pregnancy massage this week which I'm really looking forward to!

I agree it feels like a really long wait between the 16 week and 20 week appointment (in my case they work out 5 weeks apart!) And because I can't quite feel movements yet I have to keep telling myself to trust that my body is doing what it's supposed to and baby is okay!

LokiCat · 05/11/2019 16:20

I've actually started feeling a lot of back pain today. I was fine at work but suddenly on the commute home it's gotten really bad.
I definitely feel exhausted by the end of the work day, can't stop yawning right now! If I could, I'd probably sleep as soon as I got home till the next morning 😂

@CateyA glad you got to hear the heartbeat, that must have been so amazing! I'll definitely ask at my appointment.
How are you finding the antenatal yoga classes? I got a leaflet through my door about one near us so debating whether I should book it.
Also, we have the same due date 😁

@Serendipity001 enjoy your pregnancy massage!!

Hello again all, nice to see a bit of activity on the thread again. @nicoletia like you, I thought everyone was only posting to the Facebook group now.

I've been a bit quiet as I've been busy, tired and achey (also getting the back pain!) and also I stopped getting alerts when people posted, and so kept forgetting to check in.

We have our anomaly scan two weeks today, I'm getting really anxious. Wish it was tomorrow! Like others, I'm finding this period very long. Midwife did not offer to check heartbeat at my 16 week appointment, and I wasn't brave enough to ask. At least once we get past the 20 weeks, they will do that at all appointments.

My bump has finally popped out and is really visible some of the time now. I find myself constantly wanting to rub & caress it Smile

For the back pain, I have found some things that help: Taking more breaks to sit down during day, walking more slowly, and going to pregnancy yoga classes that help with stretching and relaxation.

I never got around to doing a stats thread with all of our info like I suggested, as I didn't know if there was still demand. Think I'll start one now.

18+3 today Smile

gnat99 · 05/11/2019 17:10

Right, I've started a stats thread and put three of us on the list so far, in chronological order of due date.

@Sarabara1 and @Sunshine8888 I've added both of you as you gave your info a few pages back.

Everyone else, please feel free to add yourself if you like! Link is here:

@lokicat thanks!

@gnat99 I've added to the stats thread that's a fab idea maybe I'll find my due date buddySmile

LokiCat · 05/11/2019 17:48

I've added mine!

@LokiCat

I’ve only been to one class so far but I defo enjoyed the stretches that she said should help mobilise my back and the one that gently stretched my abs where I’ve been getting lots of ligament pain.

I’m going to continue but just pace my days so I don’t get so exhausted!

I find it so wierd as pre pregnancy I’d of pooh poohed a relaxing yoga class as ‘not enough burn’ yet now after one I can barely keep awake... with exhaustion not relaxation I must add!

Ohh due date twin! That’s cool.

I’ve got so many midwife appointments (about 2 or 3 more before my abnormality scan) so I’m hoping I can hear the heart beat each time!

Also no judgement please but the midwife has suggested I go back on antidepressants as my anxiety hasn’t been great lately. Didn’t help I cried in the appointment which I blame on hormones! She says they’re totally safe for baby but just wondering if anyone else in the same boat? I can manage my anxiety at the mo with rest and my normal strategies but I’m worried if I don’t deal /treat it now I’m going to be pretty likely to have a post delivery hormone exacerbated meltdown and I don’t want to risk postnatal depression or not bonding with baby properly due to my anxiety.

Xx

nicoletia · 05/11/2019 19:50

It's nice to see that we've revived the "old" thread. I am not a big fan of Facebook and would prefer to sick with Mumsnet forum for the time being :)

I'm 17+4 today and we are expecting a little boy. I've not really experienced many symptoms apart from occasional nausea in the first 12 weeks and the dreaded stretchmarks on my bust which I only noticed on Sunday Shock (bio oil did not help).

I've been feeling flutters since week 16 and they're slowly getting stronger and harder. I can't wait to feel him properly kicking and stretching :) I even managed to record his heartbeat at the 16 week appointment last Monday.

I'm still fighting the bladder infection I mentioned before which my local trust forgot to tell me about for over three weeks. Luckily my midwife sent a further water sample for testing and my GP phoned me 2 days later to say I needed more antibiotics.

I started doing Slimming world last week as I've put 7lbs so far and whilst my BMI is currently 27, I don't want to end up being massive (I've lost 5st over the past 4 years through WW and exercise). I obviously don't want to lose but it would be nice to maintain :)

On a separate note, I've bought so many baby clothes that I could have my boy tomorrow. Me and my OH want to buy a pram (Nuna Mixx) which they currently do a great deal for but are wondering whether it is actually worth spending so much money considering that some parents buy light strollers which they use when their babies are 12 months +. Any thoughts?

Sunshine8888 · 06/11/2019 08:20

Wow lots of posts to catch up on this morning. It’s lovely to hear from everyone! You are all a few weeks ahead of me so it’s helpful to know what I have to come. I’m still feeling extremely tired and very crampy. I hope that’s normal! I can’t wait to feel some movement but think it could be a good while yet. Hopefully the midwife will be able to find a heartbeat at my 16 week app next Friday but I think my placenta is on the front so this may make things difficult! x

Catconfusion · 06/11/2019 08:39

Hey @Sunshine8888 my placenta is at the front and my midwife found the heartbeat just inside of my right hip bone. It took her a while but we were lucky. It was lovely to hear it. I'm 17 weeks and I'm feeling tired and a bit crampy. It's more a stretching sensation so figure it's my belly expanding as I have a sizeable bump. Good luck with your appointment.

lannacorrea · 06/11/2019 08:50

Good morning all!

I'm 18+5 today. Still can't feel baby moving, but my bump has been growing. I have put on 3 kilos so far, but my hips enlarged and I feel more fat than pregnant. Nothing seems to fit at this moment, even pregnancy clothes, I just feel shorter and fat and although I'm really happy being pregnant, I feel ugly all the time.

Going to the gym and taking barre classes helped with back pain here. Child's yoga pose also helps during the day when starts hurting.

@CateyA I've got a friend that took antidepressants after second trimester and she got visibly better. Her little girl was born one month ago, healthy and happy. If you feel you need, try it, it's important to your baby that you feel good too!

@nicoletia slimming world? I'll look for that. I'm super worried about my weight and controlling food when I'm hungry all the time because of the baby is super hard!
I'll buy a pram too. Haven't decided yet, but I've been looking at bugaboo fox and j-carbon. They convert to adapt to toddler, so I think it's worthy.

I'm starting to go crazy with baby clothes now. So many cute things! I'm all the time at tkmaxx trying to find good brands and good prices.

Have a lovely week everyone!!
Xx

gnat99 · 06/11/2019 09:55

Good morning all, lovely to see all the activity on the thread! Delighted to see all the names on the stats list too Smile

@CateyA, I would say if your midwife is advising that you go back on antidepressants, it might be worth thinking about. It sounds like you think that yourself. You have to weigh up what's best for your baby overall, and as you say, your mental health deteriorating further down the line would be much worse. They wouldn't suggest it if it was unsafe for you to take them in pregnancy.

I have/have had problems with anxiety and depression too. I came off antidepressants 4/5 years ago only in order to conceive DD, and I have worried with both pregnancies that I will suffer postnally. So far I haven't developed any full-blown illness, and the anxiety I have suffered has been controllable to some degree with therapy, but it's always a possibility in my mind that I will need to start medicating again at some point.

The reality is that on top of the hormones, the fact of having a baby often involves varying levels of sleep deprivation and relationship pressures for both parents. This was a big factor for us, and led to a lot of anxiety on my part, and depression for my husband, particularly when I went back to work. In fact I think a lot of my severe anxiety this year has stemmed from my worrying about my husband's ongoing problems; he has had a lot of stress at work too which hasn't helped.

Anyway what I mainly want to say is that I don't think anyone will judge you for taking the advice of the professionals and taking antidepressants, if you decide that it is the best thing for your current circumstances. This will protect your baby and you (and your partner) from potentially a lot worse, at a very critical and special time for you all.

Leag1 · 06/11/2019 11:57

I'm 18+6 today, I've gained loads of weight in my boobs but all my normal clothes still fit. Sometimes I think I can feel movement but I have anterior placenta so I'm probably imagining it

gnat99 · 06/11/2019 14:38

@Leag1 you're two days ahead of me. I've been feeling flutters for 2 or 3 weeks now, but fairly irregularly. Last time I had an anterior placenta and felt nothing until at least 19 weeks. But they also say second time round you often feel it sooner because you recognise it.

@nicoletia, I can't believe you still have that bladder infection! Poor you, they are so hard to shift in pregancy. Hopefully the antibiotics will sort it out.

@lannacorrea hips enlarging is so normal and important during pregnancy, try to think of it as your body doing its job to prepare correctly for the birth, and that may help when you feel negative about your body getting fatter. It is only temporary, and it's a good sign.

I am getting a lot of headaches at the moment. Anyone else have that? I presume it's a mix of hormonal and blood pressure changes, along with a bit of stress. Very annoying though.

18+4 today

lannacorrea · 06/11/2019 15:03

@gnat99 I'm having headaches too, but I read it's normal for second trimester. We can take paracetamol, sometimes helps.

It's a bit frustrating when nothing fits well, old clothes are too tight, moms clothes still large. I keep repeating to myself "I'm pregnant, you'll be fine", but I'm mostly wearing H&M mum's jeans and a large jumper every day.

And now my shoes are starting to get tight too.
Why can't it just be my bump growing? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sorry about the outburst, crazy hormones!
Xx

AlmostLondoner · 07/11/2019 14:27

Hi! Is anyone been still experiencing the morning sickness? I am 17w2d and from about 9th week, every single morning after I wake up I have to vomit, it's just bile (usually I drink some water at least).

Any tips? I am currently on pills from GP to help with nausea but it doesn't help with the vomiting. Should I just make a peace with it ? :D

LokiCat · 07/11/2019 14:55

Hi all! 16 week appointment went well this morning. They don't listen to the heartbeat until 25 weeks, which I was a bit upset about but hopefully all is okay in there!

@CateyA thanks! I think I'll book myself in for a taster session as I definitely need some stretches. The aches and pains have already started and I imagine they'll only get worse!
I'm sure there won't be any judgement from us about the antidepressants. If your midwife had recommended it then I think it's worth listening to her, especially if it helps you enjoy your pregnancy journey and also once baby arrives.

@AlmostLondoner I've still been having sickness here and there (not as bad as it was a few weeks ago). I asked the midwife today and she said I can ask the GP to prescribe some anti-sickness tablets if it gets really bad. I haven't tried any myself though, so can't recommend anything sorry!

Haven't bought any baby clothes yet. We're going to NYC over Christmas so I was planning on doing lots of shopping over there 🙊

Has anyone thought of any plans for their nursery? I can't wait to make a start on it! Right now I'm just going crazy on Pinterest for inspo 😊

16+2 today 😁

lannacorrea · 07/11/2019 15:54

@LokiCat Shopping in NY sounds great!! Try finding a Carter's shop. Many friends of mine went to the US to buy baby things and they all love!
I have my nursery all planned out. I used to be an interior designer, so I created 4 projects for the nurse because I couldn't make up my mind. Lol
I presented to DH and together we decided for a fifth one mixing a few things of them. I'm looking forward to start putting it all together! We'll start after Xmas. For now, we are fixing those things on the house that have been neglected for some time, like drafts in windows, roof leaking, peeling wallpaper...
I can share a few ideas here if anyone is interested.

Sunshine8888 · 07/11/2019 18:24

@LokiCat glad 16 week check up went well, what happens at that appointment? I have mine one week tomorrow.

@lannacorrea ooh yes please do share if you’re happy to ☺️

CateyA · 07/11/2019 19:08

Thanks everyone for your lovely supportive replies. I’m giving myself the week to ponder if to take the meds. I’m glad to have the support of the midwives.

So weight gain wise is 7lb normal ish or too much at 16 weeks? I was dieting before I got pregnant so I think a couple of those lbs are just what my body wanted back regardless of baby weight!

I’ve not bought any clothes yet.. we don’t know sex and I’m also still a bit fearful of buying anything this early (probably my anxiety playing up)

Nursery we’ve decided on duck egg blue colour as it was my late mother in laws favourite colour and it feels like it could work for a baby girl or boy beyond that I’m not sure yet

Xxx

nikdan123 · 07/11/2019 19:29

Hope everyone is doing well. Just been catching up.

I'm 18 + 4 today, havent really suffered too bad with symptoms. I'm sometimes sick when brushing teeth but apart from that all is good.

I have a physio appointment tomorrow morning as my legs are going numb when i stand for a short period of time, possibly trapped nerve Confused

Got my 20 week scan on Monday and so excited to see baby again and find out if we are pink or blue Grin

LokiCat · 08/11/2019 07:40

@lannacorrea ooh thanks for the tip, will check it out! Yess definitely share your ideas, please 😁

@Sunshine8888 mine was really short! She checked my urine sample, blood pressure and then I just had a list of some questions to ask her I don't know if that's the experience everyone else had. I need to have a GTT test after my 25 week appointment, so we went through that as well. I was out in about 25 minutes.

@CateyA ahh duck egg blue will be a beautiful colour for a baby boy or girl, and a lovely way to remember your MIL :)
Im sure 7lbs is fine, the midwife would have mentioned if it was concerning!
Definitely do what feels right for you re meds! Xx

@nikdan123 oh I hope your physio appointment goes well today and something helps your leg.
How exciting you'll find out what you're having on Monday!! I can't wait till our 20 week scan. Still a month to go! 😫

I've had some back pains early in my pregnancy. I reached out to a self referral form for physiotherapy in a hospital near my house. They came back after around 3 weeks but I've had a very good appointment that helped me. I noticed that as being pregnant we are considered urgent cases for NHS. So if anyone is having bad back problems, I'd advise to do the same, takes a bit of time but it works!

Nursery: I'm attaching my 4 complete projects so you can have a look.
The only thing that doesn't have a reference is the armchair because we will te-upholster an old one we have home.
For me, I ended up mixing natural with glam to create the last design.
I hope you like them and they can be of some help for you!
