Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

Hello everyone! I've been awol for the past 4/5 weeks and have just found you all again. Went on hols in mid-September and took a break from the internet. Only half caught up on Thread 2, so I'll do a bit of reading and come back in a bit Smile

al2616 · 15/10/2019 23:26

@ruthsoph did you get the answers you were looking for from the hospital? How are you doing now?

Sunshine8888 · 16/10/2019 08:15

Yes @Ruthsoph I was also wondering how you’re getting on? I have the harmony test booked for this afternoon

Ruthsoph · 16/10/2019 10:02

al2616 & Sunshine8888 thank you for asking - they didnt give me a combined risk with the bloods as the blood test they took on friday was for any infections, becuase i have has the harmony test. Yes my harmony test came back great but the fluid could be due to other abnormalities such as sickle cell or a heart defect so the cvs will test for everything - i have been reading everything i can get my hands on and i have read where the hosp actually made mistake on the NT measurement or where others had a NT of 8mm and all came back fine so i am very hopeful - they do scan my before the CVS so see if the NT has indeed decreased or if the original 4.8mm is correct. The surgeon doing it that is his sole job and he performs over 100+ per year so that has made me feel a bit better - i am in limbo a bit but trying to stay positve
Good luck today Sunshine8888 xx

otterbaby · 16/10/2019 11:31

@Ruthsoph I am going through something similar, I'm 13+1 today. I had a high NT at my scan on Friday and had my CVS done yesterday. They had the results of my blood test as well which shows everything should be fine but it's the high NT that's throwing things off.

Anyway, just a bit of background info in case it helps...once you have the CVS, you should get the results for the main 3 chromosomes, turners and triploidy about 2 days later. If those come back negative, they can test for an "array" which looks at the other chromosomes. That can take 2-3 weeks, at least in my area.

The CVS itself is slightly nerve wracking, I suppose I didn't realise how intensive it would be. The doctors are in gowns and they basically portion off a section of your tummy once they find the best route into your placenta. The local anaesthetic really knacks! After that, the needle they use is about 12 inches long and they sort of pump it in and out of you in order to suction up the bits of placenta that they need for testing. I had some cramps after that were sorted with paracetamol, but the emotional side of things made me glad I took the day off work.

Something to make you aware of (and certainly not to scare you) but the doctors did say that even if all chromosomal testing comes back okay, the NT fluid could still cause heart failure or such, so it becomes a bit of a waiting game at that point. It's an awful time really, but I'm hoping everything goes well for you. I'm just waiting on my results now x

Ruthsoph · 16/10/2019 11:40

@otterbaby thank you for replying. I have an appointment next monday at St Thomas Hosp in London so they can check the baby heart. Had the fluid reduced at all for you before your cvs test? For me (and i am clutching at straws) but when i had 12 wk scan i had to keep moving and coughing as they baby was laying funny so i am hoping they made a mistake?!? yes i have taken the day off on friday - my app is at 9am so i can just relax the whole weekend (well try) i a having to hide my growing tummy as i dont want people asking me if something turn out bad news - i wish you well on your results xx

otterbaby · 16/10/2019 11:58

@Ruthsoph unfortunately mine didn't reduce, I was really hoping it would. They do measure it again, and it measured the same (but then again, yesterday baby was laying upside down so who knows). One positive of the whole experience is we actually got to hear the heartbeat for the first time, which was lovely.

I've probably been scouring the same websites/forums as you - and there are a lot of positive stories out there. It's a difficult time, as we should be embracing our bumps and telling everyone our fantastic news. The charity ARC was really helpful as well, if only to be a listening ear who understands what you're going through x

Ruthsoph · 16/10/2019 12:05

yes and its the positve stories that are getting me through every day xx

happymrsc · 16/10/2019 14:35

Thinking of you both @Ruthsoph and @otterbaby x

littledinosaurs · 16/10/2019 18:21

My heart goes out to you @Ruthsoph and @otterbaby xx

nicoletia · 16/10/2019 18:39

I hope that it all goes well @otterbaby @Ruthsoph.

I had my harmony on Sunday and I'm constantly checking my emails having read that sometimes it only takes 3-5 working days to get the results back. The baby was very active on the scan but they didn't measure NT which I suspect was because I was over 14+3. They did have problems with drawing my bloods as they couldn't find my veins so fingers crossed they've done it correctly.

On a separate note, I have today received a letter from my midwife 16 days after my 12 week scan that I've got an infection and that my GP has been informed. There is no mention of what sort infection it is which I find absolutely appalling but presume it's a UTI. Also, they've sent my prescriptions to the old GP AngryWhat I'm also frustrated about is the fact that the elevated hcg was the reason why I decided to do the harmony test and I'm now reading that it could potentially be caused by an infection so had the NHS told me straightaway (I'm not being funny but it should not take them 16 days to test one's urine), I might have not needed the private NIPT. I am absolutely livid and find it appalling.

Sunshine8888 · 16/10/2019 21:41

I’m sorry @Ruthsoph and @otterbaby, sending lots of positive thoughts x

I think I’m back in the April group officially. Baby has had a growth spurt and due date has moved forward again to 30 April ☺️ So I’m 12 weeks tomorrow x

Ruthsoph · 17/10/2019 10:36

@nicoletia I has my harmony test on a saturday and got my results the following Friday so yes 5 working days. x

otterbaby · 17/10/2019 11:08

I got my news today - Turner's Syndrome. A 0.05% chance of getting this, and apparently it's rare that the baby has even made it this far. I have an appointment with a consultant tomorrow, but I feel like the world has dropped out below my feet.

Ruthsoph · 17/10/2019 11:43

@otterbaby i am so sorry for your news, thinking of you at this time. What was your NT measurment - speak with the consultant and see what they say xxx

Sunshine8888 · 17/10/2019 11:44

I am so so sorry to hear this @otterbaby 💕 x

Catconfusion · 17/10/2019 12:10

What awful news @otterbaby thinking of you during this difficult time! Xx

littledinosaurs · 17/10/2019 13:16

So so sorry @otterbaby xxx

Sunshine8888 · 17/10/2019 13:20

@LokiCat just checking in, how are you doing? X

gnat99 · 17/10/2019 21:08

@otterbaby I’m so sorry to hear your news. What a difficult situation. Let us know how you get on with consultant.

@Ruthsoph thinking of you too. Good luck on Monday and keep us posted

@nicoletia, I would be livid too, that’s really bad on so many levels. Not only have you forked out for a harmony test that you otherwise might not have, causing you extra worry and extra expense, but even worse had an untreated infection potentially all that time, quite dangerous in pregnancy. Hope you get to complain to somebody.

@Sunshine8888 delighted to hear all went well for you! So you are 12 weeks today Smile

gnat99 · 17/10/2019 21:26

Hi again everyone else, have caught up on thread now and just wanted to say how lovely to see all the scans! I had mine too a couple of weeks ago: they brought me forward 5 days so I’m due on 4th April now. Low risk Downs, Edwards and Patau (we can’t afford the Harmony so we’ll have to take their word for it and hope for the best, even though I’ll be 42 in December...) Lovely sonographer, heard back v quickly, so felt really lucky.

I’m just starting to feel better now at nearly 17 weeks: nausea went at roughly 11.5 weeks, but came back at around 13 - prob due to low BP and low haemoglobin and B12 coupled with an infection, slight temp etc. Now it's just occasional. But the low BP is really not nice; I have had some horrible days where I feel sick, dizzy and headachey all day, with a tight chest and intermittent anxiety. Anyone else getting this?

Have told all family, a few close friends and some colleagues, but probably won't tell everyone yet. Esp not 3yo DD! She has no sense of time...

Feel like I’m missing out by not being on Facebook. This thread has certainly slowed down. I just don’t really use Facebook for anything else, so I’m reluctant to start now. Maybe I’ll change my mind at some point.

gnat99 · 17/10/2019 21:29

Oh and lastly: Sympathies to @Sussexbythesea84, @Jessem29 and @MrsG3 for your sad losses Sad

Dawn99 · 17/10/2019 21:52

I had my 12 week scan on Monday. The sonographer was a nurse and wouldn’t comment on whether there was any issue with the baby. She just said it was too early to tell and it would be easier to see that at the 20 week scan. So another few weeks of worry on us 😕 I’m 39 so hoping everything is ok with baby. She did say that the skull was closed as it should be and we could see the limbs were all there.
I was nervous about telling my boss but he was great about it, seemed really happy for me and said it was the best news he’d had all week. All my colleagues were thrilled for me too.
Meeting up with some friends over the weekend so I think I will surprise a few of them with my news!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 17/10/2019 22:14

@gnat99 we are due right buddies but I’m only 15+5 currently. Isn’t that funny?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 17/10/2019 22:15
