Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

@Bookworm83 that's great news - I have my harmony test on Saturday - how long did it take for the results to come back? X

elb1504 · 25/09/2019 21:52

@Bookworm83 Congratulations!

I've been wondering about the harmony test and if it's worth it, seems quite a lot of money, did you ladies have any particular reasoning to have the test? Just curious.

ChickenNugget86 · 25/09/2019 21:56

Thank you everyone for the comments back about when telling people. I have spent most of my 20's without family support so have got used to it. I'm more excited to tell work colleagues who I see 5 days a week and a few close friends. I know I can get the support from them (hopefully)
Times like this is when I miss my mum the most.

As for my first midwife appointment I have mixed feelings. It went ok, went through all my medical history etc... And people were right when they said how long they were must have been over 2 hours! She struggled to find my vein for the blood test so had to try a few times. It was OK until she mentioned I was high risk for blood clots. Just means I need to be checked a bit more but it made me feel a little shitty. Also might need to take higher dose or Folic Acid and aspirin just need a GP appointment to confirm.

Just got to wait for my letter for the scan, she said it would be in about 3 weeks.

Congrats bookworm! A boy how lovely x

happymrsc · 25/09/2019 22:01

@Bookworm83 congrats! So bizarre nowadays that stuff like that can be identified so early!

@ChickenNugget86 aw the word 'risk' always sounds scary but try and see it as reassuring, as them making sure they are taking the best care possible of you to make sure you and bubs are nice and healthy. ♥️

Babybrown20 · 26/09/2019 01:29

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading the thread but only just joined. So nice to see everyone is experiencing similar feelings and symptoms. I am 10+2 according to my calculations and first baby 😄.. I had tiredness and nauseous/headaches and super hungry up until a week ago and now it seems to all have stopped and I don’t feel like I’m pregnant anymore so have started to panic and considering buying another test to reassure myself!!

First midwife appointment was at 9 weeks have requested to change hospitals as moving house so waiting on booking appointment/scan ... starting to worry it’s quite late compared to most people here??? I haven’t had any blood tests or anything done as of yet so starting to worry! Any advice would be great!!

Bookworm83 · 26/09/2019 07:09

Thank you everyone, I am over the moon!

@Ruthsoph I had it done on the 18th and got the results on the 25th so it took a week.

@elb1504 I had read a lot of stories of people who were told by the NHS they were "low risk" for Down syndrome, but still ended up having babies with the condition. Apparently the NHS test doesn't detect up to 15% cases of DS. I am a worrier and an overthinker and I know I wouldn't have enjoyed this pregnancy knowing this risk. Yeah the Harmony test is expensive but we decided to take the money out of our savings and to me it was worth every penny. And finding out the baby's sex early is a nice bonus 🙂

Ruthsoph · 26/09/2019 08:20

I have my harmony test on Saturday - I am having it due to my age (42) I didn't have it for my daughter and I was (37) in fact I didn't even know about it then - I think it's bad that you have to pay as some woman are simply not in a position but for me it would be worth it for piece of mind x

lannacorrea · 26/09/2019 11:07

I had my harmony test too, I'm 35 and my partner is 56, so we were really worried. Results actually came back in 3 working days. I've done it privately. All I can say is that it was a big relief to see the results. It's a priceless feeling. And they also gave us the gender too. We're having a little girl and we're so happy about it!
Anyway, if you feel like having it, don't think twice, it's worthy!
I've done mine at Ultrasound Direct. They were lovely and also gave us pictures and videos from our scan.

elb1504 · 26/09/2019 12:15

Thanks for the replied ladies ref the harmony test, will definitely look into it!

Sunshine8888 · 26/09/2019 13:12

I have been reading about the harmony test with interest. If all goes well at my scan on Saturday I will speak to them about it. I’m quite tempted despite the cost. Is is best to have this done after your dating scan? X

Ruthsoph · 26/09/2019 14:28

@Sunshine8888 I was told it best to have it between 10 and 12 weeks x

girlanonymous · 26/09/2019 14:42

Hi All,

Was anyone offered the combined test and the reflex DNA test by their midwife? It takes place in your 11th, 12th or 13th week of pregnancy?

Bookworm83 · 26/09/2019 15:20

@girlanonymous I was originally going to get the combined test but having read up on how inaccurate it is, I decided to go for the Harmony test instead. The reflex DNA test is not available on the NHS where I live, I think they only do it in certain areas of the UK at the moment. But if you have the opportunity, definitely get it - it's basically the same as Harmony so definitely worth it!

Sorbfsiabs · 26/09/2019 15:27

Just wanted to plug the secret April 2020 Facebook group again while I'm online, send me a PM and I'll add you. There are 56 of us now, it's a nice supportive group and noone can see it on your profile x

Pip231018 · 26/09/2019 18:10

How far along is everyone at their 12 week scan? I just got mine through (I only booked in Tuesday night) and it's next week. I will be 11+4.

Sorbfsiabs · 26/09/2019 18:45

That's nice and early, I'll be 12+4

Serendipity001 · 26/09/2019 18:58

Hi all, I had my dating scan today. 12+1 today. It was an amazing experience I didn't realise how much they move already! I did the downs screening blood test too with the hospital but I haven't booked any private test and am considering whether I should be booking the Harmony test...anyone not doing it?

Now I have to wait a whole 8 weeks for the next scan! It feels like forever away!

Bookworm83 · 26/09/2019 19:35

@Pip231018 I thought I was 12 weeks exactly but they advanced me to 12+2. That was last week.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 26/09/2019 19:44

My scan isn’t until next Wednesday when I will hopefully be 13+4. Feels like and absolute lifetime away at the minute!

littledinosaurs · 26/09/2019 19:53

I'll be 12+2 at my scan. @Pip231018

I'm not doing the harmony test @Serendipity001. Each to their own, and as a worrier I'm sure the peace of mind must be priceless, but I have mixed feelings about it.

Pip231018 · 26/09/2019 20:30

By my LMP I will be 12+2 but I've had two scans so far and my due dates changed both times. They might advance me which I'm hoping. I'm really keen to get to the end of the 12 weeks safely. After praying to get my scan through quickly, now it's here, I'm worried it's too early. Never happy! X

PurpleViolin · 26/09/2019 21:37

Naps are my current favourite hobby Grin

happymrsc · 26/09/2019 21:52

@Serendipity001 we're not having it, unless we get a high chance result from the NT.

I'll be 12+0 by dates when we go next Wednesday, but that's mainly because it was the only day my husband could come because of work, otherwise I'd have preferred to leave it another week or so.

Sunshine8888 · 27/09/2019 08:17

I’ve got another scan tomorrow and I’m so so nervous. All was well at 6 weeks but I’ve read too many sad stories 😢 I just want everything to be ok so badly x

happymrsc · 27/09/2019 11:34

Is anybody finding their nausea/'morning' sickness is getting worse rather than better? I had a few days where it seemed to be improving and then for the last 3/4 days it's been back much worse than before, I had to jump out the shower with shampoo all over my head to be sick yesterday, feel like I can't move for the nausea :(

Sorry, just whining. Was clinging onto the hope it would start to feel much better now onwards and now losing hope.
