How's this for our new thread ladies....??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
growingbagpuss · 02/08/2007 17:03

I think mine will have to be "shrinking sagpuss"

bananabump · 02/08/2007 17:05

Just got back from the doctors, I'm not incredibly impressed with him. He took one look at my stomach, then yanked my knickers down at the front (necessary?) and proclaimed them to be the problem. Then he went to take my blood pressure, I told him he would need to use the large cuff, he said "no we won't" and I said "er...yes you will, it won't fit around my arm, and if it does the result you'll get will be massively high"

He still tried to fit the smaller cuff on, then when (duh) it wouldn't fit he picked up the big cuff, then said "when did you last have your bp taken?" I said last week and he said "oh well, it'll probably be alright then" and gave up!!! Well, I could have opted for half arsed optimism at home and saved myself the blooming trip...

He didn't bother with asking for a urine sample, just diagnosed looser pants or none at all (my pants aren't tight actually but I do sit with my legs crossed a lot)

Then he looked me up and down and said "good luck, I expect I'll be seeing a lot more of you after it's born"

I was like cheers, you massive wanker!

Guaranteed if I hadn't have gone to get it checked out it'dve been something serious and then I would be Irresponsible Woman. Anyway according to him everything's fine so that's good at least.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 02/08/2007 17:07

for you BB _
I totally agree - Wanker!!!!

growingbagpuss · 02/08/2007 17:08

What an ARSE!! I would complain - that's disgusting behaviour - and no way should you be made to feel like that!

you poor thing - so you are none the wiser.... well, I would opt for Dp's boxers, see if it goes down.. and the make an appt to see a different doctor..

Tight pants my eye.....

bananabump · 02/08/2007 17:12

Ok so I'm seeing the funny side of it now, but I do appreciate having somewhere to rant! Seriously though, what an arse.

I suppose he knows what he's talking about though, if he suspected pre-eclampsia or anything he wouldn't have just guesstimated that my bp would be okay, would he? I mean if it wasn't I'd have grounds for a formal complaint, so I doubt he'd chance it. He did ask if baby was still moving about and I assured him he was, he seemed happy enough with that. Maybe he sees loads of panicky pregnant women all the time.

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 17:22

OMG bananabump - are you really so sanguine about being treated like that? I would be livid.

Well, if it really is elastic from underpants (sounds lame to me) I can recommend M&S boyshorts (£5 a pack) in a bigger size or two. I have been living in mine. No elastic grabbing anywhere.

Growing, I tried the DP's boxers when I got to six months but they were too high on the bump amd less comfortable than girls' "boyshorts". Also - LOL at your proposed PN name but I hope you don't go through with it. None of us want to hear the word "sagging" even in jest!

A final note before I head off home early (again...really, I will never be able to work real city hours again) Raspberry leaf tea without exception tastes like floor dust. Add some chamomile or nettle to make it taste more "grassy" if you like but never expect to like it.

katybird · 02/08/2007 17:37

I don't know, I've developed quite a taste for it! I think the brand I have now has fruit added to it though, it's pink rather than the weird green colour of the first packet I had. And I quite like herbal teas anyway.

Only an hour left at work hurrah! Hope your last week(s) go quickly, kite and anyone else who's still working.

Banana, I would be absolutely furious with that doctor. I'm getting very good at writing angry complaint letters, I never dare say anything at the time.

Hersetta · 02/08/2007 18:00

Just back from our scan and baby is still firmly breech - even more so now as she was a flexed breech at 32 weeks(with knees up to her chest and feet tucked underneath by her bottom) but is now an extended breech with her feet up by her head.

More surprisingly she's had a huge growth spurt and has put on 3lbs in 4 weeks and is measuring 7lb 8oz at 36 weeks. Head and tummy measurements were off the charts and all the others came out to 95th centile - so am booked in for a CS at 39 weeks on 23 August. Very weird to have a definitive date (dependant on her not coming early of course). Three weeks today she'll definitely be here!!

banana - dr sounds a right tosser.

Congrats Bresha on the arrival of your little boy.

mum2george · 02/08/2007 20:08

Congrats Bresha, so what weight was he then?

Am I the only one who is supposed to be having a big baby and is being left to my own devices?

Had a scan at about 36 weeks and was baby was 7lb 2oz then (I'm 5'1" and quite petite). I was due yesterday and don't have an appt to discuss being overdue until, wait for it, 10th Aug!

OMG, I just can't wait that long and its going to be a whopper by then.

Do you think thats too long? I could always ring the antenatal clinic and ask for an earlier appt but last time I went to the hospital, because I was unhappy with my MW care, it ended in the consultant putting in a complaint about her. What does everyone think?

MrsBadger · 02/08/2007 20:16

I'd hang on if I were you - 10th Aug isn't that far over, and fingers crossed there's quite a high chance you'll go into labour naturally before then - I know a big baby and a petite pelvis sound like a bad combination but induction doesn't sound like a bundle of laughs either...

No-one's made any comment on the likely weight of the Cub - my bump is measuring bang on 37wks and is apparently 'all baby' but Lord alone knows what that means.

mum2george · 02/08/2007 20:51

Thanks Mrs Badger. You are right, I would rather do anything than have an induction or a c-section and should have it by then like you say. Have got every confidence in being able to give birth, after all if it really does get stuck then can sort it out then can't they. Was just a bit worried that everyone else who is having guestimated big babies seem to have been told they can't go too far and they aren't concerned about me.

Am feeling a bit irrational today. Had a lovely lunch with DH but then had a row with him just before I posted and ended up in tears (most unlike me!). Being overdue, the house is a tip, I'm still in pain from the infection and the antibiotics have given me thrush (sorry for TMI). So sorry for being so negative.

mum2george · 02/08/2007 20:56

Oh, and on the pre-eclampsia thing. We thought we might loose my SIL and her LO at one point. If anyone is worried have a look here:

www.pre-eclampsia.co.uk/eclamp.html

MrsBadger · 02/08/2007 21:01

oh, you poor thing - you do sound like you're having a rough time of it!
The HV at the baby cafe today said that if we go overdue to think of it as bonus rest time before the baby arrives rather than a chore, but I'm sure that's easier siad than done...

bananabump · 02/08/2007 21:10

Aaaw mum2george, sounds like a shitty day. Try not to get too down about the state of the house, it's understandable when you have another child to care for! Hope the row with your dh wasn't too serious, he shouldn't have you crying now.

Sorry to hear baby is still breech Hersetta, it must feel strange to have a definite date you'll meet your baby!

Congratulations Bresha! Hope you're enjoying your little one.

Annie75 · 02/08/2007 21:15

Hey all - woo-hoo, another baby! Congrats, Bresha - and a really lovely name. Glad to hear all went well.

Agree re M&S boy shorts, Kite - mine are dead comfy.

Banana - you get some rubbish treatment your way and I'm really sorry for you. It simply shouldn't be like that.

Had my second attempt at ECV today and the baby wasn't turning for any amount of pushing and shoving. But, I did have gas and air this time, and man, it is good! It doesn't take away the pain but really lessens the anxiety and is rather trippy. Effect goes away as soon as you stop puffing. I'd highly recommend it for labour . I had a very lovely midwife supporting me through the procedure - reminding me to breathe etc. Really made me realise how important having the right people around you is at this time. And I've been speaking to an ace senior midwife about how I want to labour. She's been so supportive and will help me do it the way I want (or at least try). I am so relieved even though I can't have my home birth Sorry to hear yours in breech too, Hersetta, and good luck with your plans for a c-section.

Hmm, no TT today. She's due same day as me... Anyone else AWOL?

bananabump · 02/08/2007 21:25

AWOL's: Tokentotty, mrsshuvel, conkertree, stretchmarks, itchynscratchy... sorry if I've missed anyone out, it's not cos I don't care!

angie0201 · 02/08/2007 21:49

its getting all very exciting reading this thread now its so near just read what you said BB about that doctor i cant believe it i would have been in tears what a * good luck to you all mine is due on the 16th am v impatient now

lizziemun · 02/08/2007 22:54

Am I the only whose DH/P live's on a different planet.

When i was 36wks pg last time DH, he told me that he wasn't ready yet, and could i wait . 3 weeks later he had to be as dd was born at 39 weeks

Tonight he has just said to me and i quote "is it me but have you got a lot fatter in the last couple of weeks. I mean does he not realise you do not say this to someone who is pg/hormonal or does not he not think i have noticed i mean i'm the one who is uncomfortable .

bananabump · 02/08/2007 23:29

whaaat? How rude! I hope you mentioned his bald spot/lovehandles/poobreath!

I thought my dp was bad enough, making jokes about "who ate 40,000 pies" lol (but he IS joking!)

Thought this thread might make everyone smile, it's all about what they don't tell you about having a newborn baby, from the mums who have lived through it. Made me laugh and worry at the same time!

bananabump · 02/08/2007 23:33

Oh and since we still don't appear to have a postnatal thread, I've taken the liberty of creating one so Jem, Bresha and Washy can bond over their lo's!

LINK TO POSTNATAL THREAD!

Hope it fills up fast!

Ceolas · 03/08/2007 00:32

Congratulations Bresha

Sorry about the ECV not working again Annie. Your baby certainly seems comfortable in the breech position.

Yes, gas and air... Good stuff

lizziemun · 03/08/2007 07:46

bananabump

I did mention that i had an excuse for mine unlike him .

BabyMadandBIGbump · 03/08/2007 08:25

Morning Ladies, feel so very down and teary today, I had a bad dream that DS#2 died in an accident and I cant shake it off, every time think about it in any way I just burst into tears with deep sadness, I got up early and had a hot milky drink as I thought it might help but not seemed to have worked very well, DS#2 isn't even up yet I just hope that when I see him I don't bust into tears and upset him! back soon!

growingbagpuss · 03/08/2007 08:36

BabyMad - I've had very similar dreams - I dreampt that DH died, and that DS kept asking for him, and I had to try adn give birth to LO, as well as explain to DS - it took me ages to shake it off.

I wonder if it is something in our subconscious worrying about replacing 1 with another (?) -I certainly know I'm worried about how DS will react if DH pays too much attention to the new babe... so may be I was worried he'd feel like he'd lost his Daddy..... minds work in mysterious ways.

I'm jumping up and down lots to try and get my waters to break, so I have an excuse to ring the Mother, and 2 Dsisters to tell them they can't come. I would take great pleasure in it!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 03/08/2007 09:01

Why is it when your PG you dream horrid things more often, I mean should be a happy time yet we dream theses things! I've had 3 dreams that DS#2 has died in very horrid ways but never DS#1, I don't know why that is, DH has also had a dream of DS#2 dieing !
