How's this for our new thread ladies....??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Augustbride · 02/08/2007 13:51

Just got back from hospital and I may be one of those rare people who gives birth on their due date!
Low placenta is no longer an issue but size of LO definitely is - measuring 9.14 today and even with 15% accuracy that is still a big baby for little me.
So.... am booked in for an induction on Tuesday (my due date). The consultant said it was a 50/50 chance that it would end up as a natural or c-section birth.
The way I feel I am just excited about meeting him at last.

SweetyDarling · 02/08/2007 14:04

August - that would be great! You'll have to change your name to AugustMum!!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 02/08/2007 14:07

when I asked this morning about the odds of DC#3 coming ON due date, it got me wondering when the most popular time line is, soooooooooooo I opened a thread on childbirth so we'll see soon enough when the most popular time line will turn out to be!

katybird · 02/08/2007 14:18

At NCT this week our teacher said 4% of births occur on the due date and the actual due date should be four days later, so maybe that's most common?

Augustbride, glad the low-lying placenta isn't a problem any more and you're cool about the induction. Must be a bit strange knowing roughly when LO is going to arrive, but also great that you're not playing the waiting game like everyone else!

No allergic reaction luckily kite, I popped a vinegar-soaked napkin in my bra on the advice of my dad and it worked a treat! Bit smelly though. I've got antihistamine cream now, mw said it was fine. I'm sure your LO will be just as beautiful, if a little wrinkly to start with .

Just out of interest, what are the three major signs of pre-eclampsia?

SweetyDarling · 02/08/2007 14:21

Pre-eclapsia signs (i think) sudden increasein swellin of face and feet, visual disturbanc - like seeing stars, headache. Can be totally symptom-free though!

SweetyDarling · 02/08/2007 14:22

Apparently in France your due date is 41 weeks! I guess that means if we go late wecan just claim to be continental!?

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 14:29

Katybird, the three signs are as sweetydarling said plus protein in your urine (I think the blurred vision and headache count as one sign). I have traces of protein but apparently that's normal in late pregnancy and only pre-eclampsia if presenting with the others, and the others would have to be very severe, not the mild finger swelling a lot of us have experienced.

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 14:29

No, I am completely mad. Neither of us have mentioned your BP has to shoot up sky high as well.

katybird · 02/08/2007 14:47

Thanks! Know what to watch out for, just in case. Swollen feet here too but nothing severe, usually brought on by walking long distances or dancing too much!

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 14:55

Sweetydarling, don't you think it is unfair to be co-erced into induction in this country for being "overdue" in the week that everywhere else in Europe is considered your due date?

My hospital has booked me an appointment with a consultant for seven days following my due date in case I have not birthed the baby by then .

No offence, Augustbride - I know you have your reasons for going ahead with the induction.

funbun · 02/08/2007 14:58

Hi everyone - sorry not to post for ages. Only finished work last week and was knackered. All fine at the moment. Had 38 week midwife yesterday and she was a bit concerned about bambino being a bit big so we're gooing for a scan tomorrow. Must say the tape measure method seems a bit random. She said theres not much they can do if it is big - i guess I'll just have to push harder.

Also a bit woried that we'll discover the sex when we don't want to!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 02/08/2007 15:08

Congratulations bresha on your Son!

Not much else to sya today! knacked!

GillL · 02/08/2007 15:21

Saw the midwife this afternoon. She said she has to check with her manager about a home birth. She's coming round on Tuesday for a check up and to bring all the equipment with her. Can't believe I've had to wait til nearly 38 weeks to get a decision.

No more pains yet kite. I know I really should be resting and I'll definitely make more effort in the next two weeks.

Jem - I was the same about not sleeping when baby sleeps. I never found I could sleep more than an hour in the day anyway. I won't get much choice this time after dh goes back to work. Dd doesn't sleep in the day unless we take her out in the car in the afternoon.

banana, babymad - you never know, your dh's may surprise you with the cooking. My dad never cooked in 30 years of marriage but had to start when my mum had an operation. He's actually quite good now.

congratulations Bresha! Sorry you didn't get your home birth but glad it all went well.

banana - you're so lucky your dp likes the name James. That's one of my favourites but dh doesn't like it

katybird · 02/08/2007 15:40

You don't have to agree to an induction kite, as long as the baby's heartbeat is fine then you can always say no (like Lola keeps reminding us!). Found out yesterday at NCT about a woman at the Whittington who went to 45 weeks because she wasn't emotionally ready to give birth and refused to be induced, and she had a normal-sized healthy baby naturally.

MrsBadger · 02/08/2007 15:40

Congratulations, Bresha!

according to MW today the BadgerCub is now 3/5 engaged and ready for lift-off... we shall see.

GillL · 02/08/2007 15:50

Good news MrsBadger.

Anyone know how many raspberry leaf tea tablets you should take each day and when? I bought the 400mg ones.

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 15:59

Good news mrsbadger.

Don't worry katybird I will not be saying yes unless there are good reasons, and I have never thought babykite would arrive before the first week of September - until this week's dicky tum and braxton hicks pains that is.

45 weeks sounds like the end of anyone's tether though!

kiteflying · 02/08/2007 16:02

I have been reading the nappy lady's website. Is it weird that I feel less capable of dealing with dirty nappies than anything else about new parenting?

BabyMadandBIGbump · 02/08/2007 16:04

GillL don't know, I was taking one, three times a day (for 2 and a half weeks) but I don't know if they were 400 or not, I hope you have better luck with them than I did, I ran out Tuesday and I wasn't getting any more, had enough! Tea is horrid too had a cup last night I'm not having no more of that either!

bananabump · 02/08/2007 16:06

Whoa, one of the symptoms for pre-eclampsia is seeing stars? Oh dear, I was seeing stars the other day for no reason...

My hands aren't swollen though, neither is my face. I'd better take a urine sample along just in case.

I have booked a haircut and eyebrow wax for tomorrow so baby will probably come tonight anyway, sod's law and all that!

In other news my house is now finally done, and I'm so happy I managed to get it all done before he arrived. Time to come out, baby!

Back later x

BabyMadandBIGbump · 02/08/2007 16:12

Talking about nappies, we went to the "Babyshow" back in May, and tommee tippee's cotton bottoms were half price so we brought the "Birth to Potty pack" which was £250 we brought for £125, plus my local Council give you (a single payment for each child) £25 back when you spend over £50 on reuseable nappies, so in fact we brought 3 years worth of nappies for £100 which isn't bad at all!

Pengy · 02/08/2007 16:15

Congratulations Bresha and love the name Vincent.

Quiet day here, contemplating baking tomorrow which will be a first! Hope everyone is having a good day.

growingbagpuss · 02/08/2007 16:18

I used to heave over DS's nappies - still do if he does a big poo in the potty.... so don't worry!

Cotton nappies are so easy once you get into a routine - they are good for keeping you organised as well.. Don't get too stressed about using them in the first couple of weeks though - give yourself a break, and enjoy your new LO. Also, disposables at night do make life rather easier. Whatever choice you make with cotton nappies, you are saving money, and helping the environment, so its got to be good.

Just been for walk to post box and round the block to burn some of DS's energ off. He ran the whole way!! Bless. I set off a huge tightening, and thought, if I keep this up I mght iduce labour. But by the time we got back to our road, I couldn't face walking any further, and colapsed onto the sofa!!

GillL · 02/08/2007 16:52

Thanks babymad. I couldn't stand the tea either.

BabyMadandBIGbump · 02/08/2007 17:01

who's changing their name when LO comes??

I was thinking of "3MadLads" if LO is a boy!
