Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 08:50

oh Gosh -is it today?!

GOOD LUCK ITCHY!! Hope it goes well - look forward to seeing piccies of little one, and a bumpless itchy -it must be half your body weight!!

Annie75 · 17/08/2007 08:56

And big congratulations, Gill . Well done on having your home birth - running out of gas and air sounds scary, but you did it!! Good luck with the breastfeeding too - getting the right help is so important as is having self-belief

TT - am now eagerly awaiting your baby news! Hang in there, it won't be long before you've got one in your arms and lose the ability to type too!

loler · 17/08/2007 09:21

Good luck itchy too - must be too late by now though!

GBP - Isn't amazing that you can be 5cm dilated and not feel anything! - I was 4cm when went to hospital in agony with DD thinking I must be fully gone! Hopefully means very little pain for you once you do get going. (surely can't keep hanging in there until Saturday - sounds like a very stubbon baby)

I had huge row with DH last night and we aren't really talking at the moment - seem to remember everyone else going through this a couple of weeks ago (being end of the month my hormones must be a couple of weeks behind).

growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 09:40

Loler - agree absolutely -most odd - don't mind though -it is about the only thing keeping me going!! M/w wth DS said somethign sim -she thought I was probably a couple of cm gone by the time my waters broke with him... and he was only 6 days late.... I'm up to 11 now (ha ha ha) - it just shows really doesn't it how different the "symptms" of labour are!!

One person's show means labour within a matter of hours, and for some means nothing -you'd have thought nature would have evened this out really?!! Blumin' hek -women have been giving birth for long enough!

bambi06 · 17/08/2007 09:55

this is getting so boring now...im 8 days late and just knowing my other two were late and could mean another week is starting to get verrreee boring ..im limited to how far i can go with the kids as i really dont want to chance anything so late on..my second was very fast and i only just made it to hospital..they were talking about putting a monitor on when i got to labour room but heh too late ..i`d given birth within 40 mins of arriving at hospital door!!! and most of that time was spent shuffling in between constant contractions to the bed!!!!

conkertree · 17/08/2007 10:00

sorry that you are still waiting bagpuss - surely its got to happen today - as you say at least it is moving forward, its just waiting for that final pop.

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

Purplerabbit had a baby boy yesterday. He was 9lb 11oz - and they've called him James Thomas - both doing well and he is another cutey - big round cheeks.

growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 10:14

Purplerabbit - what a corker!! Well done!!

Yuo two must be so proud of your new little ones!!

Bambi06 - I am currently cleaning windows -as a way of being "upright" - and then I have some sewing to do which i have been meaning to do for ages, and I can get on my knees to do the pinning! Should help the LO to turn from babck to back (personally I think she is firmly wedged, but never mind). It is boring isn't it? My poor DS must think I've had a personailty transplant -we used to walk everywhere, and always go for walks on our days off togethers - Roll on those days!!

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 17/08/2007 11:07

Hi everyone

Nothing here either ,looks like sweep hasn't worked so will be waiting for my midwife on Wednesday for 2nd sweep!! still having "stringy show" (sorry if tmi) so am also going to clean my windows today as i wanted to do them before baby arrives, and hey, looks like i have loads of time!

Have just had a scan this morning as well as he movements are quiet but all ok , thank god, everything spot on and estimated weight is 7lb 5oz!! so now would be good before he gets any bigger!!!

Also UKI has posted on the Pregnant after miscarriage thread, she had a Baby boy yesterday !!
So CONGRATULATIONS TO UKI AND PURPLE RABBIT!

there seems to be babies every where!!!

growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 11:19

I've just had some sad post through -this is going to sound v odd - my uncle and I have been researching our family history - his Grt grandfather lost his wife in the 1890's, and 2 of their four children in the space of 2 years. We also spotted an infant death, with the same surname. I have just got the certificate thorugh - this poor man lost his wife after birth, then their infant son died a couple of weeks later. within 2 years two of his other children had died too. It puts it all in perspective doesn't it? He was poor, and uneducated, and this was at the time of the big Flu epidemic.

bambi06 · 17/08/2007 11:34

pink ranger..how overdue were you before you had the sweep? just wondering whether to bother having one or just wait .which i s really what i prefer to do..my midwife said the longer overdue the better the chance of induction working but i`m very wary of any type of induction..why mess with nature!!

Uki · 17/08/2007 11:44

OH NO

My message didn't post here, I forgot to click send I think.

BABY

LeviJasper
3.435kg or 7lb 56oz

born 16th Aug (my lucky date, dh, bf and my birth date, different months but we are going for all 12 now ) at 4:21pm

horrible induced labour due to high blood pressure, baby came hard and fast and I wanted pain relief, but was too late apparently so I kept shouting "this pain is pre- historic, why do i have to do this"

I am totally besotted with him though, he is scrummy

growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 11:50

Well done Uki! - Pink alerted us to yuor newly post pregnant state!! Sorry it was a bit traumatic for you! Enjoy your lovely babe!!

Bambi - Pink isn't even due yet and she conned her m/w into doing a sweep!! I would go for it (even though thus far mine has produced nil babies) - partly because it at least lets you know the state of play with cervix etc (!!) - how many other people do we have conversations with about the state of our cervix's ?!!!

bambi06 · 17/08/2007 12:16

yes , its amazing how much [tmi] we go into on mumsnet..things i would nt talk to a friend about..what a great place eh? i think i`ll wait till maybe monday at the earliest [10 days ] by then..i wouldnt push fo rit normally bu ti soooo want my homebirth and i dont want them to turn around and say they wont do it because of how overdue i am!!!

conkertree · 17/08/2007 12:18

congratulations uki.

growing - when you think about the rate of infant mortality years ago, it does make you very glad to be alive today, even if it means having a cs when you want a more natural birth etc.

and the cervix conversations - its amazing what things are now discussed around the family dinner table - and I also find it odd how unworried I am about breastfeeding in front of people. I do it as discreetly as I can, but unless Sturan latches on perfectly first time, there is usually a bit of thrashing around etc to deal with, and so breasts have been on disply more in the last week and a bit than ever before. I think after the positions I was in, almost naked, in front of the midwives during labour, I will never be quite as worried about things like that as i was before labour.

lizziemun · 17/08/2007 12:54

Congrat to those who had their babies if the last few days.

I have just been to the midwife and baby is still head down so it look like the ECV has worked .

growingbagpuss,

I had a labour like you last time, I only went to the hospital when i stated bleeding and was already 8cm. I just had backache which was uncomfortable but not painful if that make sense. I only had contractions when in came to pushing dd out.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 17/08/2007 13:02

GBP - I didn't con my midwife ,she took pity , but even if is hant worked as you say, you know what is happening in there, when swept with ds even the 3rd attempt my cervix was still hard so a least i know now!!

Hoping that this is your weekend and you dont have to go in!!! what is there next step with you?

Bambi, i dont see having a sweep to much intervention compared to if you go in, would much rather have serval sweeps then get started off again!!! Think midwife wanted to do sweep as she know how much i want a home birth and given us enough time to do this!

growingbagpuss · 17/08/2007 13:19

Pink - I know!!!!! My next step is to have another (!!) sweep tomorrow - and to try and "con" the m/w into accidentally breaking my waters!! Is Rachel one of your midwives?

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 17/08/2007 14:21

No, i have ever only had Karen and she is FAB! think she is a sister so a alot of midwifes know her, but if she came to see you i think she is the sought that would break you waters! she said that she is transferring over to Collage road surgery in September so you might even met her! she is very blunt but i find that good as there is no messing with her!!

katybird · 17/08/2007 14:45

Congratulations GillL, Trinaj, Uki, purplerabbit and MrsB !!! Wow, it's baby central round here now.

Hope things start happening for you properly soon bagpuss, at least you know you're well on the way.

Nothing happening here yet, was hoping today's Dawson's Creek episode was an omen (Joey's sis had baby a week early), but no joy lol!

divamumplusbump · 17/08/2007 15:16

congratulations uki,
how do u get sweep, ladies? my mw is on hols 2wks, so im not getting anything i guess. i have cold coughing so bad, and having braxton loads, i dont know how am going to give birth

GillL · 17/08/2007 15:43

Hello. We finally have a name - Alex. It was my choice again so dh has his turn next time.

Blimey bagpuss. As you say - at least you won't need much encouragement to get the baby out if they do have to induce.

Thanks Annie. The feeding is a bit hit and miss at the moment. Alex is very sleepy and is just not interested in my boobs. I've had someone come round for the last 2 days who has managed to wake him up and get him latched on but I'm having no luck on my own. Last night was very tiring as he hardly settled all night. He spent a couple of hours bringing up mucus, which was a bit scary and then just grizzled for ages. I think I got about 3 hours sleep altogether. I phoned the hospital today because he was sick and it was bright yellow. Apparently that is the normal colour of digested breastmilk but they were concerned that he has only fed 3 times since birth. I'm probably going to express some later to give to him with a spoon or cup.

I think banana should be around again tomorrow. I got a text from her today saying that they should be out of hospital today as James' jaundice is much better.

BabyMadandBIGbump · 17/08/2007 16:45

Hi ladies!

Hope every one is fine and well, Congratulations to all the new mum's well done ladies!

Sorry I haven't been on been alittle busy with 3DC still gets me (3) LOL, I've had 2 days were it's just been Connie and I which has been nice, but also trying to catch up on sleep which isn't working out. DH has gone back to work, thank god, as he doesn't like staying in so ever since DD ( DD) was born we had been out most days which has driven me mad on the inside but I've just grinned and bared it IYSWIM you cant rest and so on when your out and about (at MIL's house), you feel like sh!t, tiredness, self-con about the way you look I.E. belly, bleeding and so on, aches and pains, hormonal, you cant put your feet up at some one else's house can you?!, and every one trying to nick your baby off you , so it came as a relief that DH went back to work. MW came today for that last time Connie now is 9lb 7oz bless, right little fat thing , feeding 5oz's every 3 hours, I cant believe you only get 3 visits from your MW after the birth now, with DS's I had alot move visit's but oh well! Still very teary and i dont know why I'm sure i'll get there, each day as it comes and all that .
