Just trying to download a contraction counter, anyone tried one? DP thinks it's stupid, says I won't want to be pressing buttons while in labour and he's probably right but if some of you are still posting while contracting i guess it's possible. Anyway I said pressing the buttons would be his job!

bananabump · 08/08/2007 22:10

Music to labour by... I'll try to suggest some to take my mind off the pains.

These are just examples of stuff I've been listening to to relax, but there are loads of great tracks by these artists:
Goldfrapp- Black Cherry

Bitter:Sweet -The Mating Game

Garbage- Milk

Massive Attack- Teardrop

Smoke City- Underwater Love

Personally I'm not taking any music in with me, I didn't want to have to worry about choosing music/what the midwives would think of my choice in music!

bananabump · 08/08/2007 22:13

Rhiannon just try contractionmaster.com, you only have to press the space bar at the beginning and end of each contraction. But don't start timing them too soon, I so wish I hadn't, I've spent hours staring at the damn thing feeling disappointed at my irregular contractions!!

Diva no there's been no news on Annie, I really hope she's taking it easy and recovering at home by now. Hopefully we'll hear soon.

LoopyLouLisa · 08/08/2007 22:25

Hi rhiannon, I didn't take any music with ds1 but when i had my section they had the radio on and just as ds was being pulled out Bill Withers' Lovely Day came on. I now cry whenever I hear it as every lyric seems so appropriate. If you like love songs try some of the compilations, like top 100 etc. I look at the charts before downloading tracks as I can never think of songs.

I can't believe some of you are posting while in labour. Saying that though I suppose it's very different being at home instead of chained by monitors to a bed in the delivery room as is my only experience.

If I go into labour early I'll definitely be coming to you all for moral support as I'm gonna stay at home for as long as I can bear. I've an elective planned so I assume that they'll whisk me to theatre as soon as I get to hospital, but dp works away all week and it could be a few hours before he can make it back, so the plan is to stay at home until he's relatively nearby. Obviously these things never go to plan though...

GillL · 09/08/2007 06:03

I've been awake since 5 and can't get back to sleep. I'm getting really fed up of waking up 4 times a night. Last weekend I had 2 late nights and thought I would have a chance of sleeping through as I was so tired but I still only managed 6-7 hours with several toilet breaks. I still really don't want to have this baby til after the weekend though. The sleepless nights with a newborn are just so much worse and I really want our bathroom finished

itchy - I like the name Isobel. Not sure about Eda though.

banana - I don't think the midwives will bat an eyelid about swearing. I think they hear it all the time. Just do what you have to do - I screamed the place down, so much that I scared the woman in the next room!

rhiannon - I didn't get the chance to even take my hospital bag in before dd was born so I've not really got any suggestions re labour music. But I agree that it should be something fairly relaxing.

Hope you're in the hospital by now banana. I know a few people who have been in labour for days before actually giving birth. Surely it can't go on much longer!

bananabump · 09/08/2007 06:08

Morning Gill, sorry to hear about your shitty night, I've had one too, reg very painful contractions all night and a hot bath at 4am because they're getting too bad. Paracetamol do NOTHING the swines!

Just off to hospital to get checked now will update wehn I can. Dp looks like death lol

wish me luck!!!!

GillL · 09/08/2007 06:18

Good luck! Hope it all goes well. Hopefully you'll have that baby really soon.

GillL · 09/08/2007 06:29

I'm back off to bed now to try to get another hour sleep before dd gets up. Hope to catch up later today. Will definitely update everyone if banana has her baby.

growingbagpuss · 09/08/2007 07:30

Hope you get some sleep GillL -that was me a couple of weeks ago -so tired I couldn't think. Gradually catching up a bit now. I accept I'll be up at some point for an ice lolly and a glass of milk, and that seems to do the trick (between wees!!)

Sounds like Bananabump might (finally!) be off!

SWeep certainly did something.. and I agree it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, DH keeps looking at me as if to say "get on with it". The m/w mentionned the dreaded "I" word..... induction.... if things don't get a move on... certainly should be enough to get me into labour. Plenty of short walks with DS today I think.

typhoonsmum · 09/08/2007 07:50

It is twenty to eight in the morning. Splodge hasn't made any appearance yet so in about 40 minutes I'm off to hospital. I'm on the ward next to the one I work on. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Don't want to be wondering around the hospital having contractions and running into people I work with but the staff priviledges will help.

DP has gone to work to sort out the staff and will come back when I phone him. He is working in Manchester tho and I am near Liverpool so will take him about an hour depending on traffic. A friend is doing her nurse training and is in lectures in the hospital so she will call in between them till DP gets there. DD has stayed with MIL the past three nights and although the peace has been lovely I do miss her. I want to give her a big cuddle.

tokentotty · 09/08/2007 07:56

But at least you know 'this is it' Typhoon eh ? Soon you'll be cuddling dd AND your new baby so what you're feeling now will all be forgotten ok. Just enjoy the little bit of rest this morning.....

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 09/08/2007 08:28

Good Morning everyone!
Oooh Banana, sounds exciting - good Luck!!!!!!!!!
GBP- Glad the sweep wasnt to bad and hopefully it will get things moving now!

I had midwife yesterday and i must say that i might just have the best Midwife ever! Broke down in tears (me not midwife) as im just struggling with my swollen "Bits" lack of sleep and a VERY VERY active 4 year old with no one to help in the day, was in with her for an hour, she is coming round next week at 39 weeks to give me a sweep as she feels so sorry for me and know that baby is a good size, i know it cant guarantee anything but at least i can see some sort of progress happening!!

Trinaj · 09/08/2007 08:48

Glad to see everyone else showing some kind of progression. - Good luck!
I'm still here - waiting!
Had good night's sleep though with no dc to wake me up at 6!

lizziemun · 09/08/2007 10:50

Good luck BB.

I booked in for a ECV will be 37+6 next wednesday (15th) as this LO will not turn and stay there.

If they cannot turn then i will have to have a c-section as they do not recommend breech deliveries which will probaly be the following week as DD came at 39 weeks.

I going through that very hormonal stage you know crying for no reason. Got very annoyed the other night when it was realy stuffy because DH would not stop breathing. I went and slept in the spare room.

I keep waking every 2 hours to go to the loo, although on the plus side dd has been waking between 7am and 7.30am instead of 6am this week.

itchyncsratchy · 09/08/2007 10:55

morning all, I'm with you Gill- another night of not sleeping.

poor banana = I'm glad you're off to the hozzie, hope the contractions do their work and you can get on the G&A, pop the baby out and start enjoying the good stuff!

You too bagpuss- I'm sure you'll be cuddling lo very soon. did you say you started taking arnica already? i bought some yesterday how many should we take?

pink- so sorry for you too, do you have much chance to lie on sofa? I've been getting sharp pains under bump near bits from standing too much, esp cooking and washing up. only lying down with cushions asap takes the pressure off. it's probably easier said than done when you have 4yr old bouncing around too.

Who else is on the verge? TT are you ready for tomorrow?

itchyncsratchy · 09/08/2007 11:01

ah lizziemum I'm in same boat too, c-section booked for next friday at 39+4 if lo determined to remain breech, also have same issue with dp breathing. last night lay awake for 3 hours listening to that, totally insensitive and uncaring of him! he's still asleep now which is annoying me more and more by the minute..

lizziemun · 09/08/2007 11:05

itchyncsratchy

They are just so selfish aren't they .

Right i must go and do the ironing and then wash the kitchen floor.

itchyncsratchy · 09/08/2007 11:28

totally! i've made enough noise around the house for him to wake up now. If there's one thing I can't stand it's dp sleeping more than me!

TT- I saw on another thread from way back that you were thinking of buying an amby hammock, did you?

myweegirl · 09/08/2007 11:43

hi everyone

just a quick post. will need to change my name to 'my2weegirls'. baby Heather, 9lb 5oz was born on tuesday 7 aug at 6.55am. exactly 8 minutes after arriving at the hospital!

all's well and her big sister just loves her.

not had a chance to catch up with everyone else yet - so congrats to those that have had and good luck to those that are still waiting.

will catch up soon

tokentotty · 09/08/2007 11:51

Oh wow myweegirl, that's wonderful news, congratulations!! Can't wait to hear all about it xxx

Itchy - yup, I got an Amby and it looks soooo fab. Just want to get in there myself to be honest as it looks so lovely. Obviously I can't yet comment on how Peanut finds it unfortunately but I can't imagine that he won't like it !

tokentotty · 09/08/2007 11:55

Just got to add that for all those complaining about their partners keeping them awake 'breathing' then I seriously need to hang my head in shame. Can't believe I'm the only one though who's snoring like a stuck pig ?? Apparently am just SOOOO loud it's unbelieveable. DH said this morning that I'd been driving him nuts !! He said that he tried cuddling me this time but the more he cuddled me the worse it got and he ended up giving me a shake !! Poor, poor thing, I've never snored before so he doesn't know what's hit him but he refuses to leave me and sleep in another bedroom..awwwwwww

Sorry to hear about you feeling so bad pink. It's great that you have such a supportive midwife.

Good luck typhoonsmum. Hope it all goes well.

Congratulations myweegirl. That's a quick delivery! I love the name Heather. That's always been on my list for girls names.

and now for the interesting bit...

GillL · 09/08/2007 12:35

bananabump has finally popped!!!!!!

I just got this message from her:
