How's this for our new thread ladies....??

kiteflying · 08/08/2007 17:18

We agreed on our names but apparently that completely removed the usual woman's prerogative to change her mind!

bananabump · 08/08/2007 17:39

hehe, that's a good point kiteflying!

We were in the shop just now looking at the icecreams in the freezer, and two scabby looking teenage girls came in and tried to convince my dp to buy them an icecream! When my dp said no, they said "oh go on, you know you would if your wife wasn't with you"

Ooh I didn't know what to say, I was half angry and half bizarrely amused that we were having this interaction while I was standing next to him heavily pregnant and contracting!

The cheek of it! lol

growingbagpuss · 08/08/2007 17:52

ok that's wierd Bananabump.... you do meet some strange people - I met a bloke in the shop up the road the other day who started asking me about creams andstretchmarks.... I left v quickly.

Sweep -yuk. Sore. 2cm dilated, cervix soft, baby wrong way round (back to back) - not too fussed -DS was aswell.

DH has just rung... I think he thought this was some magic cure all and that I would immediately be in labour... he sounds all deflated on the phone and he couldn't think of what to say to me. useful.

Bananabump - you are having a bit of a time of it aren't you? I can only partly imagine how you are feeling -but my heart does go out to you... not fun.

I hope Annie has had a trauma free time of things -perhaps she just had a long labour and is relaxing in hospital. I'm sure we'll hear from her soon...

tokentotty · 08/08/2007 18:06

Ah well, have had my reflexology this afternoon so even if that doesn't work it was jolly pleasant anyway. Now, big congrats to Conkertree, a big gee up to Banana to get that bump shifted, and some gentle coaxing to Bagpuss' little one to hurry up !!

Sigh....what to do next eh....??

bananabump · 08/08/2007 18:07

Hey, glad to hear the sweep went ok even if it was a bit sore. Sorry your other half was a bit deflated, they don't really understand the process a lot of the time do they. 2cm dilated is definite progress though!

I'm almost glad I don't know what I'm measuring because it might put me off. I think I'll be here for days yet, but I'm honestly not fed up right now, I'm still just glad things are happening.

The walk didn't help, it seemed to stop things again, it's very confusing. What does seem to work is sitting on my arse on the sofa, contrary to all the advice about baths and walks and keeping mobile.

LoopyLouLisa · 08/08/2007 18:29

Hiya,

I am popping in from the sept thread. Am due 10th sept but having section 31st aug. Anyone else from Bristol?

xx

growingbagpuss · 08/08/2007 19:20

Not from Bristol now, but i was brought up there!! You local?

katybird · 08/08/2007 19:37

Hi everyone, blimey it's taken me a long time to catch up with all the posts! Such an exciting thread these days .

Congrats to everyone with new arrivals, can't wait to hear more from you all. Treacle, the photos are gorgeous and you look very glam. Babymad, can't believe you were only away from MN for 4 hours!!

Hope everything's going well with Annie. Augustbride, sorry your induction was delayed but hopefully things will happen soon.

Banana - I've never known someone have such a drawn-out labour ! You seem to be managing it quite happily though love, hopefully once it gets serious it'll go really quickly.

Kite - maybe wait until you're in labour to tell DP your favourite name, he'll probably be wiling to give you anything at that point.

Sweetydarling - I got honked at by a white van yesterday, guess some blokes like the fuller figure lol.

John Lewis delivered all our baby things this morning so I'm in full nesting mode now, going to spend the evening trying to master the bugaboo.

LoopyLouLisa · 08/08/2007 20:57

hi growingbagpuss, yes i am local. lived here all my life except a few months when i was about 18. where are u living now?

itchyncsratchy · 08/08/2007 21:01

Hi gals,

phew I just did major day out ending in supermarket spree. Stocked up on loads of easy to cook stuff for freezer and lots of lovely fruit n stuff to eat now. I'm exhausted though now.

oh bananabump you poor love it must be driving you bonkers, stoppng and starting contractions, especially when they're strong too. please try to keep your energy up

I really hope Annie is fine, I keep wondering if she had a c-section in the end as that would explain long absence.. fingers crossed for her

Big cheers for conker and her little man, looking forward to hearing names and babymad's new girl too

We're having the names argument here too, dp won't budge from Eda, I like Isobel and we're both 50/50 on Mila... what do you think??

itchyncsratchy · 08/08/2007 21:08

and one more question.. has anyone considered or heard anything favourable on amby hammocks?

I have to make up my mind tonight whether to order one or go for a moses basket, nobody at home will listen to my debate about them anymore.. or pushchairs!

rhiannon134 · 08/08/2007 21:19

BABY HAMMOCKS. A friend of my sister in law has just bought one and apparently thinks it's fantastic, you can use them until baby is 2 but personally I wouldn't use it much longer than 3-6 months, it's good for newborns as they keep baby in more of a natural position. I thought they looked a bit precarious when I first saw one but apparently they are quite safe.

rhiannon134 · 08/08/2007 21:27

I also had a sweep today, only 3 days late but really want to have this baby now, my first son was born 10 days late I'd declined a sweep so decided to go for it this time. Actually wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected, my best friend sounded horrifed when I said I'd have one so was expecting agony and torture but wasn't that bad so if anyone's offered one it may be worth it, apparently gives you 40% chance of going into labour in next 48 hours.
Told DP midwife had been able to feel baby's head and would he like a go but really freaked him out unfortunately ruined my plans of more sex to induce labour. Oh bollocks!

Trinaj · 08/08/2007 21:29

Banana - I like the name James too - but we have a friend who's boy is James.
We have decided one of each names, but won't confirm until we see it - have always said name has to suit baby!
Had a lovely walk but no further progress!! Still contracting about every 10 - 15 mins!!! - Finding it boring now and am trying to relax as no dc at home!

angie0201 · 08/08/2007 21:33

Congrates to all that have had your bundles of joy, still willing mine to put in an apperance dd is getting v inpatient wow how exciting Trinaj hope things go well for you, are you overdue now?

angie0201 · 08/08/2007 21:36

rhiannon134 i had a sweep as well to get me in labour with DD as was 7 days overdue and i found it wasn't that painful but it worked a treat i would advise them as its a good way to get natural labour started

bananabump · 08/08/2007 21:39

Hey itchy, you sound very nesty! Don't tire yourself out too much though, never know when you might need your strength! I like the name Isobel, Mila's quite nice too. Unusual.

My contractions are getting quite a bit more painful, breathing through them isn't really helping an awful lot now. My complete swearword vocabulary is getting an airing which is a bit funny! I'll try to get it all out of my system before we go to hospital or the midwives will think I'm a navvy lol

Not sure whether the Amby hammock would be better/worse than a moses basket, the hammock goes up to 12 months, moses baskets generally only last 3 or 4 months at most. I suppose you just have to decide what your priority is, durability, baby's comfort, resale value if you're addicted to selling (like me) etc

Trinaj · 08/08/2007 21:41

Not overdue, about 38 wks.
But been at this for 2 weeks now!! - see posts in childbirth section!

MrsBadger · 08/08/2007 21:41

am off to bed now banana, but it's sounding hopeful - good luck and I look forward to the birth announcement...

rhiannon134 · 08/08/2007 21:42

Anyone got any suggestions for good labour music? I'm having a home birth so I'm downloading music to keep me amused when the time finally comes but can't think of anything. Should I go for relaxing or loud screamy music?!

Trinaj · 08/08/2007 21:45

definately relaxing - the kind of thing you'd like to remember was being played as lo was born.

rhiannon134 · 08/08/2007 21:45

Bananabump- get someone to give you a lower back massage during contractions, preferably with clary sage or lavender but anything will do. Also nipple stimulation should speed up contractions!

bananabump · 08/08/2007 21:46

Ooh hi folks, sorry wasn't ignoring you, just took so long to type that post stopping for contractions I didn't see your posts!

Glad your sweeps were ok, I was dreading having to have one as I'd heard they were painful. Looks like I won't need one now, I'd be surprised if I had any more mucous plug left there seems to have been loads.

Trina I really know what you mean, love. I'm fed up and scared to sleep/bathe in case it ruins my progress. I've had about 100 excited phonecalls/texts today, I feel like I'm letting them all down by not squeezing him out sooner!

Someone just suggested I try starjumps. Ha, ha.

rhiannon134 · 08/08/2007 21:53

Wouldn't bother with the starjumps, been trying for a few days much to the kids amusement but achieved nothing except making me really need a wee!

divamumplusbump · 08/08/2007 21:55

hi all,
no news from annie?
katybird, you sounds like busy with all the baby stuff, im also keen on bugaboo, but not suite sure as read very mixed reviews on mn.
bananabump, fingers crossed for you it will happen sooner, seems you are having some time for the last couple ays.
riannon, with dd i used to listen to detox style music, like sea and ocean sound mixed with classic and etc... oh, thats sounds like heaven now, i havent got time to sit in peace now, as dd chatters all day.
anyway, we took the cd to hospital and even there was cd player we didnt use it. tbh, there was no time to listen music when contractionswere getting painful.
anyway, try detox, relaxation music.hth,
