@whisky2014 a test for Gestational Diabetes. Not everyone is tested, depends on lots of factors like family history, BMI etc.

You fast all night, go to hospital and have bloods taken, then drink a sugary syrup and have more bloods taken 2 hours later. It's not fun.

GemmaJen · 13/06/2019 06:11

@Hsunshine it's a really nice bag, I've got one of the Disney prints 😍 Really like the changing pad design, hopefully as good in practice to how it looks 🤞

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/06/2019 06:41

I have never had the GTT! Sounds grim though!

28 weeks today! A delivery in 10 weeks would be nice!

db92 · 13/06/2019 07:12

Does everyone have to do the GTT?

Megan2018 · 13/06/2019 07:19

@db92
No, MW will have told you if you need it as standard. We have a massive Type2 history on my Dads side so I’m high risk for it.
But if you measure big or have a positive urine test at any point they can decide to do it.

boodles101 · 13/06/2019 07:28

I didn't have GTT last time but got it next Friday. I've got to have the first blood test and drink, go round to have my scan. Then go back for the 2nd blood test. I'm hoping it all fits in. Dreading the sugary drink now you've all said it's horrible!

Megan2018 · 13/06/2019 07:39

Mine isn’t at hospital, its just part of my 28 week appointment with MW.
I’ve got first blood test at 9.15, then the drink, then at 11.15 repeat bloods and the rest of the standard appointment apparently.

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/06/2019 07:40

Sure i have been told the drink is just like lucozade!

April88 · 13/06/2019 07:42

I didn’t think the drink was that bad?! I had it done yesterday, tasted like very sweet orange squash

TheCraicDealer · 13/06/2019 08:08

Sounds kind of like the stuff I had to swallow as part of a Helicobacter pylori test years ago 🤢- I don't seem to meet any of the GD risk factors so hopefully I'll avoid it!

Hsunshine · 13/06/2019 08:13

@GemmaJen I got a Winnie the Pooh one! When I read reviews people loved it so I have high hopes

TwittleBee · 13/06/2019 08:20

btw @ColdCottage regarding your question about nice nursing PJs, I just lived in buttoned PJs and Nighties so not nursing specific ones. My Nan got me 2 gorgeous sets from M&S after I gave birth to DS and that is what I pretty much lived in for first 2 weeks during the day.

OP posts:
Stroan · 13/06/2019 08:26

I thought it was like a syrupy lucozade. There's just no way I could stomach it along with HG, I still can't even drink water without retching.

Karigan195 · 13/06/2019 08:58

I don’t like lucozade either since a friend decided to joke that a lucozade drink she got me was wee when we were about 12 and I still don’t know if she fibbed or not 😂. Not touched it since. I’m just a lost cause when it comes to things like that.

Regards pjs I looked at tons but have decided to get some nice soft yoga pants and breast feeding vest tops as they seemed much comfier and less faffy! Plus I won’t have to actually get dressed unless I want to ;)

TwittleBee · 13/06/2019 09:03

I like your thinking Karigan !!

Stroan · 13/06/2019 09:18

Primark have some nice button up long pyjama tops just now. A kind of cotton/lineny material, almost look like oversized shirts. I stocked up on a few of those as I figured I could wear them over leggings in the house. With a c-section scar and lochia, I expect to be in baggy black PJs or leggings for quite some time!

Is it really ridiculous that I have some PJs earmarked for wearing when DD comes to meet her brother - ones that will be nice for the photos? (Even more ridiculous is that I have a special t-shirt for her to wear and might leave my Mum detailed instructions in how to do her hair!)

Dipsy77 · 13/06/2019 09:27

Placemarking, feeling huge at the minute the top of my bump is so painful like a permanent pulling sensation feels like something is tearing I can't remember this the last two times but it was a long time ago !

Megan2018 · 13/06/2019 09:35

I actually love original lucozade so if it tastes like that as opposed to medicine I might be ok!

27 weeks today, growth scan at 11.

I am getting some nighties that button for hospital, saw a 2 pack in Mothercare that were not too hideous. I prefer PJs an have 1 maternity set from Asda but if have a section am concerned about having an elastic waistband. Going to look for some yoga pants too.

TwittleBee · 13/06/2019 09:42

Nope not ridiculous at all Stroan - only once will you get those first family photos

OP posts:
Stroan · 13/06/2019 09:42

Nighties are good for immediately post-birth anyway - if you end up catheterised (can happen for lots of reasons) PJs are not ideal!

Stroan · 13/06/2019 09:45

@twittlebee I don't have any photos from when DD was born. First photo with me in it was a professional newborn shoot at 12 days.

I don't particularly want to look at them, but she will one day and she'll wonder why there's a million pictures of her with everyone else and none with her Mum.

happydays00 · 13/06/2019 09:50

@Megan2018 it tastes a bit like that. But very flat and very syrupy lucozade. It's only a small cup - I'm sure you'll be ok.

I plan on getting a couple of pairs of pj's and nighties for post birth. Last time I just took nighties and I had to stay in for a few days and hated how exposed I felt as you weren't allowed to close the curtains around your bed unless breast feeding. Asos seemed to have some nice ones (different brands) so I'll probably just scour there when the time comes to purchase

TwittleBee · 13/06/2019 10:09

that is the same with DS Stroan and actually it does really get to me, although I do have one with him when he was first born (thanks to my mum) I dont have any in the following few days or weeks... no one thought to take any photos and when I did ask DH he would just cringe and say I was obsessed with documenting. Now we have a family album with me pretty much missing from it...

OP posts:
Stroan · 13/06/2019 10:31

Aww @twittlebee it's so true. I've seen so many facebook posts about this - urging people to just take the pictures because the kids won't care what you look like.

I find that I automatically take pictures of DH and DD, or he'll hiss at me to take picture when she does something cute. Then when I ask, he humphs and moans because I expect him to actually take some care over it and try to get a nice picture. So there's hardly any of me.

Best money we spent was on our newborn photoshoot (not a baby in flowerpot style!) and then we had the same photographer come to DD's 1st birthday party. Without those, I wouldn't exist in her first year. There's not even any pics of me at her christening - long and complicated background but it was in Ireland with only in-laws attending. It really looks like I wasn't there.

Megan2018 · 13/06/2019 11:28

Growth scan done, all looking perfect. No concerns with measurements, exactly in the middle of growth chart. Fluid levels absolutely normal too.
Managed to get pictures, no more after this as they don’t take pictures after 28 wks apparently. Next scan at 30+4.
