you forgot the due in november bit...

Anyway today I got a bedding bundle and some muslin squares in TXmaxx for £17. I am slowly getting things together.

ara · 12/07/2007 19:49

Good stuff, well done littleoldme. Must remember to bookmark in case i get lost ..argh!

Hello Sparkly - nice bargains! I can't wait to get into our new place and start getting things together. DP moans at be because of lack of space in our current place but I keep seeing good ebay/shop bargains that are almost too good to resist!

FCH · 12/07/2007 19:51

Hello - just thought I'd say I found you! I can't believe you are shopping already Sparkly - I now feel seriously behind the drag curve. Must but baby things!

Are we meant to be buying baby things already?

I haven't got anything yet. Hmmmm - not quite true - my mum keeps sending baby parcels through the post. But I haven't thought about buying actual useful things that I might need. When do we start?

littleoldme · 12/07/2007 20:21

Sorry I forgot the due in Nov but you have to understand what an immense achievement this was for me. I'm sure no one will get lost.

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 20:37

lol I have been shopping on and off for a few months now. I went to a NCT nearly new sale with my (pregnant) sister, and got lots of bargains (babygros, vests etc). I have my pram, a crib, and monitors (all second hand, but in excellent condition) I got a mobile in the sale at choice. I am a bargain hunter... love a bargain....

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 20:39

ooooo forgot that I have a swinging seat thing coming tomorrow from a Mnetter too. I am on a tight budget, so always looking second hand..

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 22:46

Everyone I have seen today has commented on the size of my bump, ranging from 'you look ready to pop' (I'm only 23 weeks) to 'blimey its grown' and 'youre huge'

I feel ready to pop, its so uncomfortable, I think its going to a bigun!!

silkcushion · 12/07/2007 23:59

SGK

You are so much more organised than I am. That's cos yr a mum already I expect and you have to be.

I haven't even worked out what I need to buy yet let alone thought about getting anything.

I've been to a conference over the last 2 days with people I haven't seen in a while and everyone said I was blooming

Makes a change cos I've been looking like shite for ages - bags under my eyes, pale, vomiting....

I'm 23 weeks and don't look half as preggers as a colleague who is a week ahead of me. I'm still at the stage where people aren't quite sure if its a baby bump or I've just put or more weight

aikigypsy · 13/07/2007 00:49

It is the November thread! Just signing in.

I've been shopping like crazy. I haven't bought anything new yet, but I got a car seat and stroller off craigslist.org, and then today I got a whole stack of maternity tops and nursing tops, plus a swimsuit, from another craigslist ad. I don't think it's as big in the UK as it is here, but I think I've done pretty well with it. I also got a batch of free things from my cousin. My mother thinks I should set up a baby registry, and I might. Do they have those over there?

ara · 13/07/2007 07:58

silkcushion - i'm at exactly that stage too! there's a girl at work who's eight days ahead of me and there's been no mistaking she's pregnant for at least the last two months, and I just seem to have developed even more massive boobs and a whopping great midriff !! No-one who doesn't already know can tell at all!

Got a day off today (yippee!) so am going to research things we need to buy and make a list. Might curb my spending urge, for now at least!!

AnnainNZ · 13/07/2007 08:04

thanks for starting new thread littleoldme, old one was getting a bit big.

i've bpught bits and pieces, some clothes new (in big sale at dept store) and some second hand off Trademe (our equivalent of ebay). trying to get stuff gradually.

Bought the first babygro when I was 6 wks! Knew it was way too early and i may be tempting fate but i was so excited i couldnt help myself.

choudru, it is hard getting a kid to stop hitting, pushing etc, especailly when not your own child. at work we just remove them from situation every time they do it and say, calmly "That's not OK, you've hurt xxxx" and just keep repeating this every time they do it. We also give lots of attention to the child who ahs been hurt and try to give as little as poss to child doing the biting/hitting/whatever as some learn to do it for attention. We also do the positive reinforcemeent thing, lots of praise when they're behaving. Feel a bit silly the first time you go "ooh, well done for eating your toast/playing nicely/whatever" but am used to it after 6 years of it!

This is with kids under 2, so a 3.5 yr old definitley old enough to understand this. Is just a phase some kids go through though.

littleoldme · 13/07/2007 08:19

Good morning everyone.

Anna- my mate in aukland swears by trade me. They tend to get stuff locally and go and pick it up. I'm very dubious about e-bay though;I've tried to but stuff twice and for one reason or another it has never arrived. They have quite a porblem with fraud and people hacking into dormant accounts to sell stolen goods. At least , that's what Radio Four say so it must be true.

saying that though loads of my freinds use it quite happily. I like charity and second hand shops for my bargains.

silkcushion · 13/07/2007 08:39

Morning

Lucky you Ara - having the day off. I wish I did but at the moment I just can't quite be bothered to get off my bottom and get dressed for work (I should have been there by now)

Sitting in my bra and knickers feeling fat and a bit tired - wish it was Saturday.

Might go to Mothercare tomorrow and find out what I need for the baby.

List so far ...
Pram
Cot
Thing to put dirty nappies in
Car Seat
Steriliser and stuff for when I have to stop breastfeeding

What else should I be thinking of?

ps I don't want to work today I want to think about my baby!

FCH · 13/07/2007 08:54

Well I have made it as far as getting dressed and going to work, but all motivation has now left the building.

I am now definitely in the category of "looking pregnant" as this week loads of random people have asked me about due date etc. The thing is they do seem to want to pass comment on (and in some cases TOUCH ) my bump. The consensus seems to be that my bump is pretty pronounced but "neat" - whatever that means! (Have a feeling it means "crikey - look at the size of you - are you sure you are only 5 months?" but that they are too squeamish to say so!)

Right - going to make the coffee - motivation sure to be found in the kitchenette I feel!

ara · 13/07/2007 09:07

Hmm, sounds like me on an average day in the office at the moment!! My head is utterly full of other things!!

My list so far is:

re-usable nappies (don't know which kind yet)
nappy bucket
moses basket
car seat
cot (DP's Dad is giving us one tho)
sling of some description
baby bath
clobber for LO (my Mum is knitting like a woman possessed so think i just need babygros!)

....and finally...

somewhere to live which will fit us all.

Saw lovely little brick built miners cottage at wkend and we are having an appointment at a solicitors this week about surveying etc. We realised the other day that we are a couple of numpties about the hose-buying process and need someone to propel us through it in the right order!

ara · 13/07/2007 09:09

or house-buying, even.

we can both manage to buy hoses without too much bother to date.

littleoldme · 13/07/2007 09:15

Weught gain nightmare have just weighed myself and have put on 2stone. I'm quite a big build and have never been a waif but still seems excessive. I suppose I should stop inviting my friends ben and Jerry round

OP posts:
FCH · 13/07/2007 09:30

LittleOldMe - last weighed myself about a month ago when I had put on about a stone and wasn't even really showing - decided it was too depressing for words and have not gone near any scales since, but I have got a lot bigger! I am sure I am going to be the size of a house by November (and I can't see the Christmas weight loss campaign getting very far if last year is anything to go by ). Can we all just decide that weight is a minor and irrelevant detail? Please? [shameless begging face]

Also - Ara - you have a list too! Oh my god - I really am crap. I have a bib, 3 babygrows and some knitted stuff (obviously all donated) and I haven't even started thinking about buying anything else yet (although I did empty our joint account surplus into my new "baby stuff" fund at the end of last month, so I will be able to buy at least a few more bibs with that then!

Oh dear - losing in the fabulous mother stakes before even becoming one ...

littleoldme · 13/07/2007 09:41

FCH - Minor and irrelevant sounds good to me. I suspect much of mine is boobs. DH says I'm having twins and carrying high

OP posts:
purplepants · 13/07/2007 14:44

Hi all - just in the middle of painting DD's nails ready for her ball tonight - next job, back combing her (short) hair to within an inch of it's life so she can have big hair wish me luck!!

FCH - I weighed myself this morning - I've put on just over a stone. FWIW I was always told that it'll take the best part of a year to get big so it'll take at least that long to lose it all again phew.... (worked for me last time so hopefully....)

(littleoldme - love the shiny new thread btw)
off to beautify DD again...

littleoldme · 13/07/2007 15:13

purple- Happy back combing.

I've marked 35 papers so far today and am loosing the will to live. God I'm bored.

OP posts:
choudru · 13/07/2007 15:35

I can't wait till this LO is old enough to ask me to paint her nails. Sounds so cute!

Littleoldme - marking papers sounds like fun

I've been packing very slowly and just gave DS a bath, getting soaked myself in the process.

Yoga was good last night - one of the ladies who attends makes her own chocolate and brought in samples for us to try. I had a milk choc truffle - was divine.

Exchanged contact details with her since she makes wedding cakes as well so we can link to each other from our websites.

Not that my website is up yet - going to cost me £150 and I can't bear to part with the cash yet. I guess I should bite the bullet and get on with it since it's an essential these days.

sigh

Moving date is a week today by the way!

Thanks for the advice on violent children Anna. I do use the positive reinforcement thing. But DS is very resilient to being punished by having treats taken away - he's a very very stubborn little man!

I guess nephew will grow out of the phase if we make sure he's still getting attention when he's behaving.

It's raining - if I didn't have DS I would go and watch a matinee at the pics. But if I didn't have DS I wouldn't be at home to have the choice I guess!

Aikigypsy - they do have baby gift lists here if that's what you mean, but the whole 'baby shower' thing is not very prevalant. My friend used a gift list at John Lewis. I do like gift lists - means you don't have to rack your brains to work out what people want.

RGPargy · 13/07/2007 16:14

Hiya

I have no list yet and haven't bought a single thing so far. But then i'm superstitious and wont be anything until i've had my 22 week scan (13 days to go!). Once i know everything is fine and dandy, it'll be spend spend spend!!!

As for weight gain, i weighed myself this morning and have put on 12lbs, although my weight has been fluctuating throughout this pg as when i weighed myself before the move, i was 3lb heavier! Still, i'm trying not to let it get me down and am just thinking that once this LO comes along, i can crack on with the home exercise DVDs and get my good ol' Step and dumbells out again. Honest!!
