Hi All,

Have to say I've skim-read the thread, so much to catch-up on!

I got my timetable for next academic year today and I am seriously peed off. They have filled up my timetable with working with the children with behavioural problems who are too violent to be educated in school so I will have to go off-site every day as well as teaching in school. And what's with the sending the pregnant lady to work with violent children?! Somehow I managed not to cry when I got this news as I didn't want to bore my colleagues with it all, but I am just so and the thoughtlessness of it all.

Oh well, I have broken up for the holiday now so at least I don't have to go back until 3rd September - hooray!

Just about to purchase training pants for my dd to properly tackle the potty-training malarky as I want to get it out of the way now, and with the holidays I will have time to devote to this. Hopefully she will take to this reasonably quickly...

I haven't bought anything yet for the next one, we have so much in the way of basics that there's very little we need, though a double buggy is a must.

Instead of boring my colleagues, I've bored you lot instead: sorry!!

RGPargy · 17/07/2007 19:28

Littleoldme - Your tales from the staff room made me giggle! Some people tho, they are just sooooo effin' rude and crabby!

I wonder why you couldn't tune in. Hmmm... maybe next week, eh?

RGPargy · 17/07/2007 19:30

hi Jetgirl!

Really really inconsiderate of them to put you with violent children! Cant you ask to be moved or something? Surely health & safety issues would come into play here?

So jealous of you being off work til September tho. S'alright for some!!

jetgirl · 17/07/2007 20:29

Hi RG,

I'm getting in touch with my health and safety rep to update my risk assessment and I'm fairly sure she'll be useful as she's been brilliant so far.

As for the timetabling, done by a man, says it all really!

Have loads to do in terms of leaving schemes of work for people taking over from me when I'm on mat leave so it won't all be sitting with my feet up during the holidays, but it is nice not to actually be in work I do admit

Pixiefish · 17/07/2007 20:53

Jetgirl- REFUSE.

Your employer has a duty of care to you adn your unborn baby.

If they can't provide you with a safe working environment then they have to let you stay at home with full pay.

I had a very similar situation when I was pregannat last time and I barged in to tell my head that there was no way on earth would i teach a boy with Tourettes famed for throwing tables at teachers.
The head said he had a duty to provide an education for the boy so I told him he had a duty of care to me as well.

RING YOUR UNION TOMORROW.

this is from the NASUWT site

sparklygothkat · 17/07/2007 23:11

how often are we supposed to see see the midwife, I haven't had a full check up since 10 weeks I saw the midwife at 16 weeks and she just took my BP and listened to the baby. Had a scan at 20 weeks but didn;t see anyone afterwards. Am now 24 weeks (tomorrow) and have another scan and check up next week but I am sure I should be seeing the MW more!!

silkcushion · 17/07/2007 23:40

Littleoldme - lol at "barren old whores" - I'm going to nick that and use it.

SGK - I've not seen MW very much - once after 20 week scan for BP and listen to baby's heartbeat. Routine check up again at 26 weeks I think. The usual wee sample etc. I expected to be seen lots more - not sure why I thought that though.

Insommnia - yes. Very restless at night and then feel like I can't drag myself out of bed in the morning. Particularly if I've played sport - like tonight

aikigypsy · 18/07/2007 00:02

Anna, I'm with you on the insomnia. I go to bed at 10 or 11, take a couple of hours to settle in (baby kicking me in the pelvic bone doesn't help) then get a few hours sleep. Wake up for an hour or two, usually sometime around 3 or 4. Back to sleep for a few hours.

Am I in training for post-partum sleep deprivation or something?

I am changing hospitals/midwives, and will see the new one on Monday. I am really looking forward to it!

Pixiefish · 18/07/2007 08:24

It's just hit me this morning that come November I am going to have to deal with dd in the mornings and getting ready for playgroup and also deal with breastfeeding baby- argh- what on earth am i going to do. If this one is anything like dd was I'll never get out of the house.

Dh can't really take any time off work and i can't see anyone else coming to help

purplepants · 18/07/2007 09:33

congratulations BunnyBaby! Blimey the list is huge now!!!

Anyone else had massive problems getting onto MN recently? It was taking my pc about 15 minutes just to load the homepage let alone do any searches Seems sorted now though.

Pixiefish - the exact thought occurred to me the other day and I went a bit However, 2 possible scenarios are.....
a) you get up early, dress in something comfy but chic, bf LO first thing then place in nice sling whilst feeding toddler something nutritious - grab toast & cuppa to keep your energy levels up - Wrap up in a nice woolly hats & big coats, walk/skip with toddler to playgroup & bf LO again once home or
b) drag self out of bed trying to avoid glancing at the crumpled wreck, that once was you, in the mirror. Pull on yesterdays clothes & hope toddler has something vaguely clean to wear. Try to force feed screaming toddler with rice crispies whilst burning toast so give up & stick CBeebies on whilst changing LOs most explosive nappy ever that has plastered all clothing in poo. Wrap screaming baby in blanket( or lots of blankets if you couldn't find a clean babygro) - bung in pushchair and spend 10 minutes wrestling with coat/hat/gloves of older child, picking rice crispies out of hair & swapping wellies over so they're on the correct feet. Hurtle out of your front door & attempt to get to playgroup whilst simultaneously snarling at toddler, making cooing noises at LO and smiling in an earth motherly way at all the yummies passing by with their perfectly coiffured angels

I know which one I'll be closer to but it's nice to dream

purplepants · 18/07/2007 09:35

on second thoughts maybe I'll just stay at home for the first 6 months and become a sloth

muckers · 18/07/2007 11:38

Hi Ladies

Blimey, SGK, you haven't seen the midwife much at all. I've only had 3 app'ts but when I saw the midwife at 13 weeks and then again last week, my next app't is early August.
Were you given a list at your first appt's with all your antenatal appt's on. I was and from my first appt to the end of the preganacy I should see my midwffe 8 times, the GP twice and the two scan appt's, although today I go for a 3rd scan just to follow up on my 20 week scan as they could not get a clear look at the heart due to fetal lie.

RGPargy · 18/07/2007 12:08

I've only seen the MW twice so far. Once at my booking in appointment and then again at 16 weeks. I have no idea when my next appointment is either!

muckers · 18/07/2007 12:21

When I saw my midwife at 13 weeks she told me to wait for my 20 week scan date from the hospital and then to ring the surgery and book in for the next available appt after that. My next one should then have been 8 weeks later but she said that was too long and to book in for 6/7 weeks which I have, I will be 27 weeks pregnant when I see her in August, my next appt' then is with the GP. I know it varies around the country depending on which primary health care trust you come under.

muckers · 18/07/2007 12:24

Appointments are few and far between and only increase later in pregnancy to every two weeks. So I dont think it's anything to worry about.

LizzieO · 18/07/2007 16:49

its really does seem to vary , both scan dates and MW appts as to where you live in the country
I had a scan at 16 weeks, then at 22 weeks, i have seen my MW twice and won't see her again until week 28, then my GP and then i think maybe just one more visit with MW

Have just been reading thread on childbirth, and noises people make, i had an emergency CS with DS1 so only reached 1st stage of labour which was painful enough...god i'm a wimp. Anyhoo really good to read other peoples experiences good and bad. I guess either way that babies coming out and you've just go to remember its only coming out one way
....wishes she could follow that with stiff drink of somthing or other....

Pixiefish · 18/07/2007 17:29

lol purplepants

My 1st pg was so easy- this one is so problematic- latest problem:
Just back from the haematology clinic and I have good and bad news.

The good news is that i have a particular antibody in my blood so steroids a month or so before the baby is due should help me not to lose so much blood as last time. Side effect- bad for baby's growth although in the last month this isn't as dire as it could be. Another side effect is that I will bloat.

The bad news now is worrying me. My haemaglobin has dropped drastically in the 5 weeks since I was there and the doctor needs to know why before he can decide which course of action to take. I was petrified that they were going to keep me in today but they have done their tests and let me go home with a warning that if I start to feel ill I go straight back.
The results will hopefully tell them one of 3 things and the course of action open to the doctor depends on that. One of 3 things will happen to me

  1. Blood transfusion and probably regular transfusions till baby is here.
  2. IV Iron probably till baby is here
  3. Steroids- as said previously not good for baby's growth.

I have asked if I can have transfusions as a day case and he said 'probably'.

Just so not the news I was waiting for today. I thought I was going in to hear about the antibody test i had done last month not to be told that I have a problem with my hg levels. It does explain my breathlessness and tiredness though which once they sort this out should ease.

muckers · 18/07/2007 17:32

Hi, just got back from scan, all was well and the sonographer was able to tick all the boxes she was unable to tick 2 weeks ago due to fetal lie. The baby has gone from 346g to 502g in the last two weeks. Aww. He now weights according to the measurements 17.7 ounces. Bless......
Took my mum today as DP working, she was fasinated, she found it difficult to suss anything out on the screen though..

muckers · 18/07/2007 17:35

Aww Pixiefish, what a mare..

As you so though, having steroids in the last month wont make a huge amount of difference. Try not to worry, I'm sure everything will be fine.

muckers · 18/07/2007 17:37

I really must proof read better, I read that last message 3 times and didn't notice until i posted that I put so instead of say.

littleoldme · 18/07/2007 21:46

Jet - I'd like to echo Pixie's advice. There is no way that it is acceptable, or legal, for your employers to put you in that position.

Your timetabler sounds like what what friend would refer to as," A real crack whore." Sounds better from her though c'os she's Canadian.

Ring the union and let me know how you get on.

Pixie - sounds tough. It's good they have spotted it though and are responding so quickly. hug

The silly cow who told me off for daring to open the window had another go today. This was anusing as someone else has opened it. She sat next to me and said, " That bloody door is open again. I bet that's you, it's freezing."

Told her it wasn't me and that she should put a effin cardigan on. I also pointed out that as she was so sensitive to the heat perhaps short (mutton and lamb spring to mind) frilly dresses weren't the most appropriate clothing as it's been raining and chilly for days. I then hit her repeatedly over the head with my empty water bottle. She was completely bemused and every one else was in stiches. One up to the pregant massive eh!

I'm glad we've broken up today as I'm not sure I would have made it through another day without a fight.

Pixie - I'm sure things will be fine for you.

Muckers - So glad everything is well with your scan. I cant wait for mine next Thursday!! I rarely proof read either but it's really annoying that you cant edit your posts after you've posted!

Littleoldme - good for you for getting back at that old hag!! yay!!!!!

silkcushion · 18/07/2007 22:43

How are we all feeling this week? Tired? Hormonal? Happy? Blooming? Fat?

Pixie - good luck - we'll be thinking of you.

AnnainNZ · 19/07/2007 01:05

hope they sort out your Hg stuff Pizie. I always think it's better that they've spotted things like this, at least they're aware of it and can hopefully deal with it. I'm seeing specialist again at 28 wks because of my blood pressure (high before I was pg) but I'm just glad that they know about it as it means I am being monitored more carefully.

Apart from the insomnia I'm feeling great. Really well. Tired in the evenings but I think that's due to never getting a full nights sleep. No probs going to sleep, can barely stay awake after 9pm. Just waking up in night is problem.

Just can't wait to finish work though. Keep chanting to myself, 4 weeks and 1 day, 4 weeks and 1 day...
