@TwittleBee I think a baby shower sounds lovely, I've never been to one that has had strange games though. Mostly just a chance to catch up with friends with cake and bubbly before the baby arrives. An afternoon tea sounds delightful. I think we'll just host a pre baby get together at ours in the summer, maybe a BBQ in the garden, hopefully make full use of the summer weather 🤞😊

We had our second gender scan at the weekend - baby was not playing ball the first time around. Yet again they didn't want to let us know so we were at the scanning place for a couple of hours having a few different tries - not constant scanning, I was instructed to go for a walk, eat sugar, bounce on the ball - we tried everything lol 😆 . Baby wasn't having any of it, with legs crossed, cord and hands in the way. They finally gave us a brief glimpse - to the relief of the sonographer, apparently they've never invited anyone back 3 times and we were awfully close to getting that 3rd invite 🙈

But pleased to say we're having a little girl 😊 ♥️

Just had my 16wk MW app. I know I knew this was the case and I was reminded on here...but next appointment is 28weeks!? Three months..till I'm measured for the first time or she uses a doppler, she didn't today. It feels forever till July, I was never out of there with DD. She was small, 6th percentile I was told today so I'm having extra scans but near the end...it seems very uncontrollable to me! I do not love that feeling.

Megan2018 · 08/04/2019 15:10

@BBell2
Crazy isn't it. I get mine at 24 wks as is baby 1 for me but still an awfully long time. Thank goodness for the 20wk scan!

@GemmaJen
Congrats on the baby girl! So we are due a day apart with the same "flavour" then :)

TwittleBee · 08/04/2019 15:31

Oh lovely GemmaJen ! I am very relieved for you that you did not need a 3rd trip there! Congratulations!

Yeah does feel crazy doesn't it BBell2 ! I suppose we have the 20 weeks scan in between but does feel very out of contact. Especially for those who had complications 1st time round etc!

MegCharlotte · 08/04/2019 15:38

Hello all! I'm not caught up on this thread so I'm sorry if this has been discussed! But I'm 18+3 and so far all has been fine with scans (it's my first baby). My 20 week scan isn't until the 24th June and I am starting to get a bit worried about it all being ok! It seems so long between the scans/midwife appts and I've been really positive throughout.. but now I feel nervous there could be bad news (I have no symptoms that should make me think this)

Anyone else feel the same? Any words of reassurance?!

Bunnymummy89 · 08/04/2019 15:48

@MegCharlotte I know the feeling! I'm 17 weeks and previous scan etc was all fine. Had no untoward symptoms but have started to get a bit anxious now waiting for the 20 week scan I think just because it's that window when you can start to feel baby move etc. I know I shouldn't really expect to feel it until about 20weeks but am impatient! My 20 week scan is the end of April though, yours seems very far away! Especially as you've further along than me. Might be worth seeing if you could get in a bit earlier especially if you feel you need the reassurance? :)

AnnieAR · 08/04/2019 15:53

Yeah, June seems like way too far along for an anomoly scan...I'm 19 weeks today with my first and my 20 week scan is next week - no way I could wait another 2 months 😮

MrsCatKins · 08/04/2019 15:58

@MegCharlotte I'm due a day after you (at the same hospital) and my 20 week scan is next week....are you sure you've got that date right??

Tefiti2 · 08/04/2019 15:59

@MegCharlotte that must be an admin mistake - definitely contact your midwife or whoever made the appointment!

Re car seats - we have got a maxi cosi one, always found them to be really good.

stormtrooperjulian · 08/04/2019 16:07

@MegCharlotte I was told that my 20 week scan had to be done between 19+1 and 22 weeks to allow time for a rescan if they can’t see everything they need to see the first time so you should double check that, sounds like a mistake to me.

@Bunnymummy89 I started feeling faint movement around 15 weeks and over the weekend the movements were very obvious so you could start feeling it any time now

I had my 16 week appointment today and heard the heartbeat so that was lovely. Getting a definite bump now so I might give in and order maternity jeans this evening. Anyone have any recommendations for maternity clothes for petite women? I have very short legs!

MegCharlotte · 08/04/2019 16:16

I'm an absolute idiot, it's 24th April!!!! So sorry for any confusion!!!

Bunnymummy89 · 08/04/2019 16:21

Haha not too long to wait at least then! :)

MegCharlotte · 08/04/2019 16:25

I know :) although still seems so far away! (Although not as far as June 🤦‍♀️!)

NotwhereIshouldbe · 08/04/2019 16:43

Anyone had their whooping cough jab yet? My midwife said this can be done from 16 weeks but I read online it should be from 20 weeks? Currently 18 weeks + 6 so need to book it in! Scan is not til May when I will be 22 weeks 😫

GemmaJen · 08/04/2019 16:59

@Megan2018 yes same flavour, lol. It's starting to feel real.

GemmaJen · 08/04/2019 17:00

I know discounts for these have come up before, but www.greengroupcollective.co.uk have some good discounts on haakaa breast pumps, bottles and teethers at the moment that might be if interest..I think the pump is down to £9 plus postage

Hsunshine · 08/04/2019 17:13

@notwhereishouldbe mine told me 20+ so having mine end of next week

Megan2018 · 08/04/2019 17:21

@MegCharlotte
Definitely query that - they may have made a mistake. You really shouldn't be having an anomaly scan that late AFAIK. It doesn't have to be 20 weeks but I'd think any later than 24 weeks is too late.

That sounds like when you should be seeing your midwife - not having a scan!

Tefiti2 · 08/04/2019 17:29

Wow @gemmajen that website is amazing! Kicking myself that I’d ordered it from amazon at £19.99 just for the pump and t was dispatched today!

NotwhereIshouldbe · 08/04/2019 17:37

@Hsunshine Thanks! Think I’ll wait til I’m 20 weeks to be in the safe side

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/04/2019 18:12

I was told by consultant i was to have next scan between 20 weeks and 20 + 6 days so very specific! Mine is next week and then i will start buying things!

All being well i wont see anyone between scan and 28 week appointment. Although i am high risk for a couple of things it is mainly to do with the birth.

Re baby showers i have never had one and have only been to one which involved drinking alcopops from baby bottles ....... afternoon tea sounds lovely

Fortheloveofscience · 08/04/2019 18:43

Evening ladies 🙂.

Can I ask a question about ante-natal classes? DH and I were planning not to do NCT, just the NHS classes. But I went to book today but the earliest available is 13th August when I’ll be 35 weeks (then subsequent classes at 36/37 weeks). Given it’s our first and we know nothing, this feels very risky. Is it unheard of to do the classes that late? I think there’s still time to book a fairly local NCT...

Fortheloveofscience · 08/04/2019 18:44

PS - I would totally pay to go to afternoon tea with friends for basically any reason. Doing it before the baby’s due sounds like a lovely idea and one I might steal...

TwittleBee · 08/04/2019 18:52

Fortheloveofscience that does seem rather late! I do really recommend the NCT classes if you can get on a course. I've failed to persuade DH to agree for us to do it again and so am really gutted as I enjoyed them (tbf, they really are geared up for first time parents).

happydays00 · 08/04/2019 18:55

@TwittleBee I've never paid to attend a baby shower but if my friend just invited us to a group afternoon tea with no kids I'd be there!

Re car seats - you should be able to take the car seat to the store you bought it from to check the fit.

Migraines - I had the most dreadful migraines for 4-6 weeks from around 15 - 21 weeks with my DD. I lived with ice packs on my head, I really sympathise to those suffering this time!

@Fortheloveofscience - our NCT classes were 4-6 weeks before the majority of us were due so around 34 - 36 weeks so seems fairly standard I think? I have had friends who missed their NCT classes as they had a prem baby which was a real shame!
