New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

@fuzzypixel That's so sweet, he sounds like a very thoughtful man

Sorry your pains have been worse @beckybutterfly that must be really scary. Glad they could see baby was fine. I wonder if your round ligament pain is very pronounced.

Many happy returns for Monday @ReginaPhalange89!

Hope your scan went well today @AIDE2424

I had my whooping cough vaccine yesterday - my goodness my arm is sore! My enormous pregnancy pillow arrived yesterday too which cheered me up, was very comfy last night. It's still on offer for £19.99 on Wowcher if anyone doesn't have one yet.

I also made my very first baby purchase today! Boden sent me a £15 voucher and they have a sale on, so I treated myself to a baby gifting set - three baby grows, a pair of trousers and a hat all newborn. Should have been £50 and I paid £25! Boden v expensive but I promised myself I could make first baby purchase after the 20 week scan and thought we deserved this. I cried when I got the confirmation email! Just never thought I would be buying baby clothes. Can't wait to see them now.

thedust · 15/03/2019 15:00

@BeckyButterfly - hope your pains stop soon - glad baby is ok. Always better to get things checked for peace of mind.

@Stephn88 - I only have 3 muslin cloths! I am feeling the need to start getting organised though, I can't wait for the nursery to be decorated and we can buy furniture to store everything in. So far I've just got everything dotted around in boxes or drawers.

Speaking of buying things, my mum is going really overboard buying things for the baby - things we don't even need or want. She's told me I don't need to buy any sleepsuits because she's got enough. But what if I want to buy sleepsuits or see things I like?! And other people will want to buy stuff too. I just wish she'd save her money and let me buy things I actually want, I know that may sound ungrateful and it's a nice problem to have but it's also awkward. She has bought some nice things, yes, but other things I've been blunt and have said to her 'no, I don't like that' in the hope she will stop buying things and save her money!

BeckyButterfly · 15/03/2019 15:19

Thank you @Trying2bemum and @thedust, I think it must just be ligaments but it was quite nerve wracking. It was nice hearing her little heart going.

Also, @thedust, I’m with you on the over buying but it’s my mother-in-law and my sister’s-in-law. I totally know what you mean! It is really lovely that they are wanting to buy stuff and yes it saves us money since we are quite strapped for cash but it’s gotten to the point that I’ve said to my husband we can’t buy anything because she’s already kitted our from them alone! My mum and I did a little shopping recently and bought a few bits but my mum is now worried that we are going to have too much so was talking about retuning the stuff she bought. I’ve told her not to because we chose them together and I love what she bought. I don’t even think I’d mind if they were just buying essentials like white vests, socks, hats etc but it’s all proper outfits! I’m not going to need to wash anything, she’ll have enough clothes to wear something different for the first year of her life!

The other thing that’s irritating me is that my mother-in-law keeps going on about how I should buy any 0-3 month clothes because I’m undoubtably going to have this gigantic baby...! (All because my husband was 9lb something when born) So everything she’s bought is 3-6 months or older. I have two sleepsuits for 0-3 months which I bought.

BeckyButterfly · 15/03/2019 15:22

*about how I SHOULDN’T buy anything 0-3 months.

I typed that post in a bit of a rant frenzy so there’s a few mistakes 😂

Chinks123 · 15/03/2019 15:28

Overbuying by family is annoying, especially if it’s your first and you want to do some shopping yourself.

As it’s our second we don’t really have that problem, but I do have a friend who’s insisting on throwing me a baby shower..but won’t invite anyone that I want there!! I had a hormonal cry about it last night and dp got all angry on my behalf and threatened to ring her. He’s very hot headed though and I can’t be bothered with any arguments, I just never had any sort of shower with dd so if my friend insists on throwing one I assumed she’d invite my friends. Sad

Also @BeckyButterfly you’re right and should definitely buy 0-3 and even some newborn even if it will be a big baby. Dp was over 9lbs, so we prepared to have a big baby too. Dd was a big girl and she fit into newborn and 0-3 we just didn’t bother with that “first size” which says up to 7lb.

thedust · 15/03/2019 15:48

@Chinks123 why won't she invite people you want?! I thought the baby shower etiquette was that if someone offers to arrange one for you they ask for a list of people you want to invite. I don't think I'll be having one, I'm going away with some friends for a weekend in May and I think they might do a little baby shower thing there. We might do one with family because DHs Dad has said he wants to buy a present for the baby shower - which opens another can of worms because FIL doesn't want to know the sex but everyone else at the baby shower (except for his wife) will know it's a girl.

@BeckyButterfly glad I'm not alone on this! This is our first so of course I want to buy things. It's very hard to tell them not to buy things without seeming ungrateful. Like you say, some of the basics would be more practical! My mum did buy us a load of the cloth nappies I'm hoping to use though.

I am quite fussy too and although we're having a girl I don't like a lot of the typical girl things in the shops. If we have a family baby shower I am going to set up a wishlist on Amazon of things we would like/need, you can add links to other websites too on it.

AIDE2424 · 15/03/2019 15:51

My scan went well Thankyou back for a re scan in a few weeks as couldn’t get everything they wanted but other then that all was well!❤️

stephn88 · 15/03/2019 15:53

That's the reason I've got so much stuff; I've brought everything I want and then family and friends have just gone crazy! Which is super lovely, but I'm so worried he's not going to get to wear it all 🤔

stephn88 · 15/03/2019 15:53

Glad the scan went well @AIDE2424 ! 🥰

Chinks123 · 15/03/2019 16:06

Well like I say I never had one last time, and to be honest I don’t want one this time. I don’t have a big circle of friends, not enough to play games or whatever it is you do. I’d be happy with a little afternoon tea or something.

But yes that’s the etiquette, she’s just inviting her friends! I said oh well I’d like X and Y there. (Family members!) She said “I’m not inviting them! They can arrange their own for you if they care.”

OneMoreWish · 15/03/2019 16:17

I had babyshower with first child/ family and friends bought me loads. Clothes wise got 0-3, 3-6 and some 6-9 months.

Don't worry after that first flush you have to spend loads on clothes yourself . Plus their poop, wee and sick means you are constantly changing outfits so you will be glad of the extra clothes. By the way you also can't have enough muslin cloths in my opinion

Does anyone know that song by Jonny cash ring of fire? Every time by heartburn starts I think 'oh it burns burns burns la la la la'

Starting to do it when I lie down or even when I've bent down for something and sit back up- time to go doctor for prescription for tablets to help me thinks.

Need to get whooping couch jab as well - for those who have had it - how long does your arm ache for? ( I'm such a wimp) xx

HchyScott · 15/03/2019 16:53

@OneMoreWish mine only ached for about two Sara and the actual injection was no where near as painful as I thought it would be as I’d heard others descriptions of it and I really really can’t bear needles! However I still have a really clear bruise on my arm 11 days later!

Jxtina86 · 15/03/2019 17:29

@OneMoreWish I'm also a bit of a wimp when it comes to needles but it honestly wasn't that bad. I didn't feel it all when she did it (to the point I didn't believe it was done!) My arm started to ache a few hours later and it lasted for a couple of days but I actually think the flu jab hurt more. No bruising or anything either. I've never had bad reactions to jabs though (no scar from my BCG jab back from my teens either...!) So I might not be a good representation!

The worst part of the whole experience was sitting in the waiting room listening to the poor toddler before me having his pre-school booster - he was hysterical poor thing! Think my GP needs to get better sound-proofing!!

BeckyButterfly · 15/03/2019 17:59

@thedust I think my issue is less about them buying things and more the worry that they already feel the need to tell me how to do everything/what to do with my baby who isn’t even born yet! I just want to be in control and them buying my baby’s full wardrobe feels like it’s just the start of them trying to take over..!

TwinkleDay · 15/03/2019 18:01

Haha Johnny cash has got my heartburn going today too with the ring of fire... though give it a few months and we will all have another ring of fire going on lol.. unless opting for the c section...

Week off now woop woop ... holidaying in wales!

I have a max of 12 sets of clothes baby growns set for Fred/ricka in each size as we are having summer babies they probs won't spend too much time in much more than nappies and vests to start off with

thedust · 15/03/2019 18:14

@BeckyButterfly yes it's definitely a control thing isn't it, DH doesn't like it, I think cos he thinks my mum is taking over a bit. She's coming with us to the baby & toddler show! My parents are buying us the pram. We are very lucky and if the clothes don't get worn they can go to a charity shop.

@TwinkleDay have a lovely week off! 5 weeks until we're going away to Turkey. So need a break from work.

AIDE2424 · 15/03/2019 18:18

What do all these mean? If anyone knows wish they would just explain in detail what things mean x

BeckyButterfly · 15/03/2019 19:34

@AIDE2424 I find that the notes are complete jibberish! I’ve looked through them after every appointment and can’t make head nor tail of them.

Trying2bemum · 15/03/2019 20:09

Onemorewish I had my whooping cough yesterday and it was very very quick. Am rather achy today - it's still pretty bad but hoping it'll ease off a bit tomorrow.

You would think after three cycles of IVF I would be fine with injections but I still hate them in my arm! Give me it in the stomach and let me do it myself any day 😂

stephn88 · 15/03/2019 20:09

Centile charts and baby's measurements. I suck at explaining things but if you google centile charts/growth charts in pregnancy that should explain.

Trying2bemum · 15/03/2019 20:11

Beckybutterfly that does sound quite full on, hope they chill out a bit

Glad to hear the scan went well aide! I wish I understood those maternity notes too

AIDE2424 · 16/03/2019 07:41

My partner finally felt a little kick last night and he cried bless him! He was so happy he didn’t dare feel after incase he couldn’t feel her anymore 😂

I slept so bad last night, I never get a full night anyways but last night was terrible!

Hope you all have a lovely Saturday!

Giraffe888 · 16/03/2019 08:46

@Aide2424 I cried when my DH felt him last week for the first time, it was so special. He’s felt him twice since too 😍

@trying2bemum mine was just a little tender for a day or two then fine

@twinkleday enjoy your week! I’m off in 2wks and can’t wait!

My parents have bought baby quite a bit but they’ve not been overbearing and I don’t mind what they’ve got. I wouldn’t like it if people were doing it in a control way though!

Has any previous Mum’s got any video baby monitor recommendations?

Finally got a day off today. My DSS has a birthday party at soft play in a pub this afternoon, he seems a bit old for soft play at almost 9 though! X

Capybaras · 16/03/2019 09:39

Morning everyone! So glad it's the weekend! I feel like this has been mentioned before but has someone else had pain in their bully button area? Mines really tender today, little pulling/stabbing pains. Assume it's growing pains again!
@AIDE2424 that's so nice DH has felt baby now - it makes it feel more real!
Going to have a look at everything we've bought this weekend so I can plan properly what else we need as I've bought in such dribs and drabs that I can't actually remember what we have!

StargazyDrifter · 16/03/2019 10:02

It was me with the belly button. Mine is turning inside out and it's kind of uncomfortable as it does that and the area is sensitive to clothes rubbing against it.

Sorry to hear about the pains, everyone. Ten days ago I went to emergency with sharp pains and it was horrid but seems to have finally calmed down now and I'm not taking the painkillers any more.

The key things about the charts AIDE, as I understand it anyway, is that when those blue dots are within range (i.e. as yours are) it means things are normal and all is well. You can google the individual acronyms like, e.g. I think AC means abdominal circumference and so on.

Happy weekend! Hope everyone has something lovely in store.
