New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

@SnailorSwift I use a website called maternityaction for anything work related etc..... it states there that pregnancy related illness must be recorded separately from other sick leave.

SnailorSwift · 14/03/2019 09:37

Thanks @stephn88 I have found it now! Knew I remembered reading something along those lines.

It's the fact that it's triggered a new stage 'formal counselling' on the absence policy has pissed me off! But going by that it can't/shouldn't be counted. Looked up our trust policy and it's next to useless doesn't actually specify anything other than you can't be dismissed for pregnancy related sickness.

All this over one day off that I spent in hospital 🙄

Have a meeting with my manager about it at 11 today so will raise it then.

HchyScott · 14/03/2019 09:41

@blueeyedviking thank you, it’s sure to be better now she’s got what she wanted! It’s sad she has to be like this, we’ve known each other for over 15 years and I’ve worked for her for 10. The way it was going I’d be going on mat leave very bitter!

Oh god @snailorswift are you okay? That sounds awful!

stephn88 · 14/03/2019 10:03

@SnailorSwift I can imagine you'd be pissed off, work is frustrating enough when you're pregnant. Let alone when you've had a scare like you have!!! Hope you're ok/feeling better now.

I'm about to call my midwife, have been feeling movements since around 19 weeks (am 22 weeks now) but since yesterday they seem to feel weaker and not as often as they were when I first started to feel them..... do you guys think I'm over reacting or ok to call, even just to put my mind at ease? I have found myself suffering from huge anxiety in this pregnancy about everything due to a MMC last year.... :(

OneMoreWish · 14/03/2019 10:15

Defo call @stephn88 no harm in getting things checked x

SnailorSwift · 14/03/2019 10:25

Yes def call @stephn88. They may only listen in at this point, but it will but your mind at rest hopefully xx

SnailorSwift · 14/03/2019 10:35

Ok now thanks @HchyScott.

I took horrific flank pain on Saturday - was in the house alone with my DS and thought I was going to pass out with the pain. Literally had to crawl to the bathroom when I got there found I had a bleed. Was really distressing. The pain more than the bleeding really as I have never felt anything like it.

On top of that was feeling very little movement from baby (had been having lots) and that lasted all weekend.

Hospital were very good but wouldn't scan me initially as I was only 22 weeks, as they said they couldn't intervene at this point. They did scan me when I went back on Monday with same symptoms.

No idea what actually caused it was just sent home with advice re pain relief and resting. All the tests came back clear. Baby much more active the last couple of days so feeling more relaxed now.

stephn88 · 14/03/2019 11:22

That sounds horrid snailor! Glad little one is more active now.

Just been to birth centre, all ok, baby is facing my back apparently so that's why I can't feel as much as before, she listened to his heartbeat and said it's nice and strong etc....: also feel better now! Smile

thedust · 14/03/2019 11:26

Oh god @SnailorSwift that sounds terrifying - so glad you and baby are all ok! And I hope work end up realising how they should be treating pregnancy related sickness. You don't need any more stress at this time.

I've been feeling rotten this week. I've got thrush so nipped to the pharmacy this morning to get some cream. I can't get comfy at all, sitting at my desk all day is killing my back. I've been sleeping really badly too. It's nothing specific and I don't feel sick enough to be off work but a day off to rest would really help! I've felt really good for most of the 2nd trimester but this week has been lousy. Got a busy weekend with a dog training session on Saturday and the baby show on Sunday.

I'll be finishing work on 7th June to use up annual leave. Officially starting maternity leave on 1st July (EDD 14th July but my mum thinks I'll be early as every woman in our family is, but it will be just my luck to go well overdue). Less than 3 months left in work! My vacancy cover has been advertised and that in itself has been quite stressful. Colleagues saying that they could do my job easily despite not having the right qualifications, colleagues even being surprised that we need to cover my vacancy for a year and thinking they could cope without me (despite my manager knowing that the service would suffer. She said I make my job look too easy!). Also colleagues from other departments expressing surprise at my salary! It's just really weird.

Yukka · 14/03/2019 11:52

@Snailorswift glad you're feeling better, must have been scary.

I'm just back (finally) from my 20 wk scan. All seems well, they checked artery blood flow aswell cos of APS and that seems fine. Baby is currently measuring big and weight is ahead of gestation. I'm sure this all works itself out in time.

Sonographer wasn't happy that she could see everything cldearly, so rebooked for two weeks to complete the scan. Lots of baby movements and was funny to feel the punch that we could see on the screen for the first time :)

You should see the state of the pictures we got, its so disappointing, like a leg, and arm, a head, no simple picture of the baby all together. They keep saying I have a difficult baby to scan . . lots of movement etc.

Anyway, at least everything seems good, and managed to avoid gender so still team yellow :)

BeckyButterfly · 14/03/2019 16:53

Hi everyone!

Sorry to hear about worries you guys have been having. @Snailorswift that doesn’t sound like a fun experience at all but I’m pleased you are feeling better now, just remember to take it easy.

I’ve been shattered today and keep getting a lot of pains around my bump. Not sure if it’s movement or stretching or if I have another UTI. I’m going to ring the docs in the morning to see if they can test my urine sample for UTI. I have been toying with ringing my MW all day because of the pains but I know she’ll not do anything so I don’t see the point!

AIDE2424 · 14/03/2019 17:20

Hi!

Had lots to catch up on! Sorry to those who’ve had a worrying time, glad all has turned it okay!

Finally have my 20 week scan tomorrow! ( almost 21 weeks)!

Today my partner surprised me that he had the day off and we’ve been out for the day and then tonight he’s booked a table at our favourite restaurant, so he’s in the good books.

Hope your all well xx

AineFreckles · 14/03/2019 18:21

Same from me. Glad you’re all ok.

I didn’t feel my baby move all day last Saturday and was encouraged to go in so they could check the heart beat. All was well - the theory was the baby was facing inwards so I just couldn’t feel their movement . The hospital were very lovely about it all x

AineFreckles · 14/03/2019 18:22

Enjoy your night out AIDE2424!

FuzzyPixel · 14/03/2019 19:39

I'm going to try and catch up best I can this evening. Smile

@HchyScott I'm sorry to hear what you're going through - there seems to be so much pressure from some employers, where it's not really needed. I'm sorry to hear you had some awful news from a client too.

@cravingmilkshake great tip on setting a reminder! Love the idea of an extended break before the little one arrives!

@blueeyedviking, I'm torn too. I'm lucky that I can work from home, so if all was well, I could potentially work from home right until the date, which would obviously give me more time with the baby. However, I do like the idea of having an extended break; that little bit of time before a baby arrives will allow me to 'nest' and do some batch cooking, and last minute pre-baby prep etc... so torn.

@Giraffe888 it really has been miserable this morning. Sounds like a good plan for your maternity! Smile

@SnailorSwift - that's horrid! I really hope that you're able to find a solution at work. I'm pleased that you're feeling more relaxed now about baby too.

@stephn88 I am pleased that baby is okay. They're able to make us worry so quickly, and I'm not sure that worry will ever go away! I think that's the start of proper 'parental concern'...

@thedust let's hope the thrush clears up quickly! What's the dog training session about? I love anything dog training related. Hope the baby show goes well - I really wanted to go to it, but I was away in Manchester this weekend just gone for a quick break with DH. Sounds like a good bit of time of before baby arrives! It feels a bit odd going off; it sounds like your colleagues are just being a bit naive. I often think, in some industries sadly, there's the 'I could do that' attitude, when actually, they don't have any true idea of what goes on.

@Yukka pleased that the scan (so far) has gone well, even if it was a little unclear. Hopefully the sonographer will be able to see everything else at the next scan. Yaaaay for team yellow!

FuzzyPixel · 14/03/2019 19:52

@BeckyButterfly calling the GP sounds like a good idea. It's a shame you feel like your midwife won't do anything, I sometimes feel like that too, so haven't bothered her with my groin pain. I'm seeing her to pick up the MatB1 form on Monday, so I'm going to mention it then and hope that she can refer to someone! Hope the pain eases up for you soon!

@AIDE2424 what a lovely treat from your DH. I hope you have a lovely night, and I'll look forward to your scan update!

@AineFreckles sounds like you have a lovely supportive unit there. I'm pleased all was well for you.

Things are a bit unusual here. I've been a bit ragey today, our floor fitter didn't show up which has put a delay on our redecorating plans. The owner of the company was v. v. v. apologetic, but it doesn't really help us at the moment. Either way, added to our stress a little!

The car seat we ordered yesterday gets delivered tomorrow. I can't believe it. It's so quick. I will be really tempted to open the box, but I'm going to try and wait.

I need to find a way to spoil DH. I feel like he's been an absolute rock. Not only is he managing a big, high profile project at work, he's directing the house plans (including doing a lot of the decorating work) and looking after me! Whilst doing that, he's still finding time to go above and beyond when looking after me, and properly spoiling me. Just as an example, when we were in Manchester last weekend; he upgraded our room o a lovely suite (it's not like we were going to go out and go wild, so it made sense to have a nicer room!), then whilst I was having my hair done, he popped to Hotel Chocolat to pick up a little bag of my favourites, then he went to Lush and asked for recommendation on bath bombs for pregnant women, then he went to Whittards and picked up a lovely decaf tea! Whilst walking around Manchester the next day, he was really considerate at making sure I had plenty of breaks and wasn't rushed. He does all these little things, and all of these wonderful gestures, whilst undergoing all of this house and work stress. He's so kind-hearted. I'm worried he's going to be sparked out by the time baby gets here, so I'm going to see if we can get the spa booked for his birthday. We've been meaning to do it, but I really hope that having it in the diary will give him something to look forward too. I really want him to feel loved and appreciated, so I'm going to wrack my brains to find something great for him.

FuzzyPixel · 14/03/2019 19:53

Sorry, that was a bit gushy about DH! Blush I blame the hormones.

Twistering · 14/03/2019 20:14

Don’t be daft @FuzzyPixel. He sounds awesome. I love hearing happy stuff. My DH is the same, not only is he the most domestic man alive and an amazing cook, he is beyond thoughtful and lovely. My work has been so utterly awful (14 hr days, weekends etc) not sure how I’d function without him! We have an expression in our house ‘it’s nice to be nice’ and it’s bloody true. Obviously he can be a twat as well (usually involving booze) but no one is perfect! :)

What does he like and we can think of ideas?

I am SO behind on everything else, I will have a read!

thedust · 14/03/2019 20:38

How lovely FuzzyPixel - your DH sounds very thoughtful! We haven't quite been doing the amount of renovation work it sounds like you are but DH has been decorating the nursery this week. I feel a bit useless cos I would normally pitch in and when I said I feel useless he said well, he'll feel useless when I'm in labour too 🤣 bless him.

The dog training is a session with our behaviourist we've had booked in for a while. Our dog is very reactive so we are working to desensitise her to people and dogs when on walks - this session she might actually meet some dogs! Albeit from very far away. We take her to private agility classes every other week too. She's our first baby with lots of issues as she's a rescue!

ReginaPhalange89 · 15/03/2019 06:26

Why are kids always ill when you have some child free time planned ?! 🙈

It's my 30th on Monday and OH has booked a hotel for us to get away just the 2 of us. Mum's having the kids. But my eldest has woke up feeling sick this morning 😭 literally every time we have a date night (which is very rare !) One of them is ill ! 😭

stephn88 · 15/03/2019 11:18

I've been going through all my baby clothes purchases and feel like I have massively over purchased! Confused

But I was wondering how many muslin cloths you guys feel is sufficient? Everyone I've ever spoke to says you need loads! I currently have 15, is that enough? Do I need more? Grin

BeckyButterfly · 15/03/2019 12:01

I ended up going to the assessment unit this morning because the pains seemed worse during the night. That, coupled with the fact that I’ve not really felt any movement, was starting to worry me. They checked her heartbeat which was strong and they said that she even kicked the doppler when they were checking (still didn’t feel a thing) They basically had no idea what is causing the pain but said it could be ligament stretching so just have to take pain killers and rest. Hopefully it goes away soon.

Jxtina86 · 15/03/2019 13:24

@stephn88 your muslin stash is bigger than mine! I've only got a pack of 3 so far... any recommendations of places to get these? I only saw them for the first time in Primark last week. I've bought quite a lot of clothes but not sure I've got enough in all sizes. I don't want to go crazy and then discover baby is too big/small for what I've got to start with...!

stephn88 · 15/03/2019 13:40

@Jxtina86 I brought 2x 6 packs at my local
Mothercare that is closing down, they were reduced to £3 from like £12 I think. Also got a pack at Asda when the baby event was on.....

I think I might look for maybe 10 or 12 more..... just in case he's a puker! 😂

ReginaPhalange89 · 15/03/2019 14:06

I would say 15 is fine @stephn88 ! I've only got about 8 so far I think .

The primark ones are actually a decent size! I bought some from ASDA and they're pretty small so won't be buying any more. You can get lovely ones in T K Maxx , though they tend to be huge big ones that you can also use for swaddling
