New thread!

Sorry, don't know if someone else was planning to do this. Just noticed how close we were to being cut off on the last thread.

Aw love hearing about the 20 week scans - got mine tomorrow! Baby seems to move more if I eat certain food so might take a stash of ginger biscuits (seems to be a fave!) to get it moving 😉😉

My friend recommended perfect prep if we use formula- she said it was the one thing she regretted not getting especially for night feeds! When I asked her for her top 3 baby items it was number one!

ReginaPhalange89 · 20/02/2019 20:10

Perfect prep machine is 100% a Best buy for me ! I breastfed my last baby for about 8 weeks then switched to formula. For the first couple of weeks we just made bottles with the kettle water but omg it's so time consuming and a pain if baby is hungry and you're having to wait for it to cool etc.

Basically what it does is despense the perfect temperature of water. So say you want a 5oz bottle. You put the bottle under, press the button and it will dispense like 2oz of hot water (the temperature it needs to be to kill any bad bacteria in the fomula powder!). Then you add the powder, mix , press the button and it will dispense the rest of the water and make the bottle the perfect temperature to give the baby straight away. Honestly it's so good for night feeds especially

Before we got it was just a faff making a bottle because you're supposed to have w certain temperature of water but obvs not too hot or you need to wait for it to cool etc.

OneMoreWish · 20/02/2019 21:55

I used perfect prep for my first baby and loved it - in fact my mum boUght a second hand one and got new filter for it so they had one at there's at it was such a faff making a bottle then trying to get it to cool down in jug of water with baby screaming.xx

Interesting info about perfect prep machines, I’d never heard of them so thank you for that everyone. Definitely something to look out for if I end up bottle feeding as opposed to breast feeding.

Also, I’ve joined that Mush app. It is to meet other mum’s or mum’s-to-be in your area. Is anyone else using it?

FuzzyPixel · 20/02/2019 22:27

DH has felt bump move three times today. Properly thrilled. 💛

I think we will definitely be interested in the Perfect Prep if I need formula at some stage. I was interested in the bottle and pouch warmer for expressed breast milk but I'm not sure how I feel about having lots of plastic, single use, breast milk pouches around.

Interestingly, I was reading something on 'foundmyfitness' that said when you store breast milk you may need to make note of the time you expressed on the storage bag. Attached a picture of the post.

FuzzyPixel · 20/02/2019 22:30

Attaching new photo, have reported my last one to MNHQ and asked it to be removed. Smile

@fuzzypixel that’s really interesting thank you! I’ve saved it x

@beckybutterfly I haven’t joined it yet but my friend has said she found it really useful x

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 21/02/2019 07:57

@BeckyButterfly I haven't joined yet, but my friend has recommended it so I will join at some point x

Onestep2 · 21/02/2019 10:36

another one who has already bought a prefect prep. Think they are usually about £100 but are down to £60 in asda baby event.

Ive stocked up on quite a lot through the baby events.

Chinks123 · 21/02/2019 10:39

I nearly bought the perfect prep in the Asda sale, but dps wanting the brand new one which is still quite expensive. The only difference I can see online is that the new one doesn’t beep apparently? I’m not sure if the old ones beeping is loud though I’ve never seen one.

Kentishgal · 21/02/2019 11:06

Definitely recommend the perfect prep - one of my best buys. chinks123 I have the old one and as far as I recall the beep is plenty loud enough but I don't know what the difference to the new one is. It doesn't do anything really technical but it just saves so much hassle and time - which is what you need when you have a young baby.

Chinks123 · 21/02/2019 12:04

@Kentishgal the new one is “day and night” so has lights on it and you can switch the beep off. The display is different it says, but apparently that’s it. I think we’ll defiitely get one-2am with a bottle in a jug of cold water with a screaming dd was no fun.

thedust · 21/02/2019 12:05

My sister had the perfect prep with her last and loved it, my mum also bought one to keep at her house. I'm hoping to breastfeed but if we change to formula then I'd probably get one too.

Had our scan today, all good with baby and it's a girl! Nearly everyone kept saying it would be a boy and I was convinced myself so it was a nice surprise!

Kentishgal · 21/02/2019 14:05

Ah congratulations thedust! I've just had a new one "wow, are you giving birth to a rugby player?" 😂 the comment came from a man (also a client so couldn't say a great deal anyhow!).

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 21/02/2019 14:12

Should I be worried.. ive had very pink steak for lunch? Just didn't think.. now I'm worried

Capybaras · 21/02/2019 14:23

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts you should be fine. I think the risk is that from rare meat you could possibly get food poisoning which could be harmful, however you could also get this when not pregnant. If you think about all the times you've eaten rare meat when not pregnant I doubt you've had food poisoning from it, so the risk is really really low. They just advise against eating it as it's better to be safe. Same with loads of advises against foods in pregnancy. A one off should be fine though.

Chinks123 · 21/02/2019 14:42

Congratulations @thedust! What a nice surprise.

Chinks123 · 21/02/2019 14:43

I’m not ignoring you @ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts but as a vegetarian I can’t offer much help. I’m sure you’ll be fine though!

Trying2bemum · 21/02/2019 14:48

@hchyscott I only really feel anything when I'm lying on my back - and then its faint bubbles / popping. That's cute about your cat.

Do you or others think your pet knows you are pregnant? I think our cat has twigged a couple of times - he's pawed my belly and become very affectionate, purring more loudly and headbutting me.

@giraffe888 That sounds like it! That's what I've had so far too. Am 18+1 today

Lovely news @fortheloveofdoughnuts :) That's so funny they made you get on all fours

@chinks123 bang your hips?!

I read on my app yesterday that the baby is only awake for about 6 hours a day at the moment - it hadn't even occurred to me that they sleep in there...

My nausea seems to have returned a bit today and yesterday. I spoke too soon about being relieved to be past that stage!

Perfect prep sounds great, it's really nice having tips from 2nd/3rd/4th time mums! I'd really like to breastfeed but at some point will move onto bottles. My nephew is bottle fed and my sister does the whole waiting for it to cool down in a jug of water thing - it does seem a faff when baby is hungry.

Capybaras · 21/02/2019 14:51

Sorry missed your post - congratulations @thedust !
Can't remember what our ratios are - are we more boys or girls at the moment or equal?

Chinks123 · 21/02/2019 14:54

@Trying2bemum yes it was pretty awkward..I’d rather she’d said get up and for a walk. He didn’t seem to want to wake up though but he did uncross his legs which is what we were after!

I think my cat knows, she keeps sleeping right Infront of my belly and purring. And waiting for a bottle to cool is a nightmare-and the cause of many 2am shattered bickering between me and dp. Grin I’ll try and avoid that this time!

BeckyButterfly · 21/02/2019 14:57

@thedust congratulations! Another little lady 😊

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts I’m sure it’ll be fine. As others have said, they are just recommendations as opposed to definite rules. Some people have perfectly healthy pregnancies without paying attention to any of the recommendations and people used to still smoke during pregnancy! So I think one rare steak will be okay 😊 it is so easy to slip up.

BeckyButterfly · 21/02/2019 14:59

Also, I have house bunnies and they are completely clueless... 😂

Trying2bemum · 21/02/2019 15:00

Yes, congrats on a girl @thedust, how lovely!

I've no idea on our boy-girl ratio - is that info added to the spreadsheet?

Seeing people find out the gender is making me curious. We've got 2 weeks until our 20 week scan - might have another chat with DH to see if he wants to find out.

Ahhh @chinks123 what a sweetie

ReginaPhalange89 · 21/02/2019 15:31

I definitely think pets can tell ! One of my cats is a lot more affectionate when I'm pregnant , same last pregnancy. She hangs around me a lot more than usual !

Does anyone get much cramping ? I've had it on and off today, not too bad this morning but just now I've had quite bad pains . I'm wondering if it's just things growing but it does worry you a bit ! Especially because I'm not feeling much movement yet so you don't know if they're ok in there ! 😔
