Hi all-

Just checking in to report my baby girl was born 20/2 by EMCS (following PROM and a failed induction), and a without going into too much detail a very difficult time of it - we were both quite poorly and in the hospital for a good while but we're home now, mostly recovered and settling in to our new life.

I still feel quite traumatised from the whole birth experience which was so far away from what I'd expected, but I'm so grateful for her and my amazing DP.

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 20:23

@melissa112 this was the second pack of squashies for my hospital bag . . . I’ve eaten both . . . I’ve managed to leave a pack of Freddos and a bag of Starmix

Angelmiracle · 04/03/2019 20:50

@NotDoingThat congratulations on your new baby girl πŸ’– Aw that's a pity you both had such a rough time. Really glad that both of you are home. And you are perfectly entitled to feel traumatised don't be hard on yourself for how it all went. Enjoy all the cuddles with her xx

@Gronk27 @melissa112 I have 1 packet of jelly babies in my bag DS and DH ate the Haribo last night πŸ˜‚ I told DM I was going to pack pancakes and jam as BF in hospital at night you get ravenous. She suggested she could bring them after the birth rather than me having a case loaded with food! Grin

Sorry to hear that @notdoingthat

When you are all sorted and can face it do investigate birth reflections which the hospital should offer. I know a couple of friends who never did anything and are now getting councilling several years later as the trauma has passed to other parts of their life.

For now, look after yourself and your beautiful baby girl. I hope the journey continues much more smoothly for you

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 21:56

@notdoingthat congratulations! And hope you get some closure and lots of support.

@angelmiracle I’m already trying to work out how I can bribe the hospital to toast my gluten free bread. I’m going to be desperate for that tea and toast and if they bring normal toast my DH will have to wrestle it off me Grin

CaseofEllen · 04/03/2019 22:20

How much food is everyone taking in their hospital bag? I only have two packs of protein balls and a pack of jelly sweets so far Hmm got to be in for at least 12 hours after birth due to strep B diagnosis. I need more food don't I?

Angelmiracle · 04/03/2019 22:31

@CaseofEllen if you know you'll be in longer I'd recommend it. Or at least make sure someone leaves you something decent at the last visit at night. I've some dried apricots mixed nuts cereal bars and custard creams. I'll probably get DH to buy me a large tea at the cafe and put it into my thermal mug. The cups of tea are doll size lol.

@Gronk27 I'd say if you're providing the bread they'd toast it no bother 🀣

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 22:34

@caseofellen I’ve got dried fruit, cereal bars, chocolate and sweets. Pretty good cafe and shop at the hospital too.

@angelmiracle think I’ll pack some!

SharonO225 · 04/03/2019 22:40

@NotDoingThat congratulations on the safe arrival of ur little girl, sorry it didn't go smoothly for you but I hope you are recovering well and starting to feel like you are able to enjoy her more now οΏΌ

@CaseofEllen I've packed snacks in my bag too as when I had my last one it was early hours and a long wait until breakfast and I was famished. I did have the delicious tea and toast straight after delivery but it wasn't enough to keep hunger at bay lol. Iv packed some peanut butter breakfast biscuits, Nutri-grain bars, pots of pineapple pieces, and Quaker Oats flapjacks. Then a few sachets of my favourite decaf coffee. Oh and a sachet of fibogel to help with the dreaded first post-natal toilet visit Confused

WhatALearningCurve · 05/03/2019 00:53

So I just got up to go to the toilet. Stood next to the bed ready to get back in and my waters have gone. 39 weeks exactly seeing as its after midnight ha. Rang the ward and they said to go on for half 6 unless anything ramps up. Not having pains or anything yet. My only aim was to get to Friday as the next two days were going to be spent moving into the new house. I literally had my partner take all the baby stuff down there today. Luckily my hospital bag is still at my mums with me ha

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/03/2019 01:20

Eeek. Exciting @whatalearningcurve - hope you are getting some rest if you can.

I am back in A&E struggling to breathe - they have got to get this baby out of me if they think it is what the cause is (they keep ruling everything else out) otherwise I might as well just buy a tent and move in!

For snacks I have some really healthy Pom Bears and twix bars packed at the moment. Sugar and salt are the only things I am worried about initially! Healthy food can follow.
Meals when I have been in this hospital have been at 8am, 1pm and 5pm. If you miss breakfast it makes the others harder too obviously as they take the orders then. Not sure obviously what it is like on post natal in the various hospitals but something to be aware of.
So true about the cup sizes too and the tea is usually bloody awful from my experience!

Wineandchoccy · 05/03/2019 03:07

@WhatALearningCurve exciting hope you are having a bit of rest before going in or having lots of contractions Smile

@SquirtlesMumAgain you are having such a tough time. Do they have a plan for delivering baby early so that you can improve?

I took pringles, cheddars, cereal bars, raisins, jelly babies and minstrels and ate nearly all of it after delivery Blush

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/03/2019 03:14

Last plan is induction a week tomorrow (Wed), but I don't know if I can spend another week with these breathing issues. It is utterly terrifying when it hits but because it seems so extreme I think people are starting to just not believe me!
I haven't seen anyone from Maternity through the whole of this last week though except for the brief half hour monitoring sessions when I came in last Tuesday and Wednesday. Feels like I need to speak to them but just in the hands of whoever is on now and whether they want to make the connection and refer me in the right direction.
I would definitely not voluntarily be sitting on these chairs - they are supposedly padded but I can't feel anything!!! Definitely not comfortable!!!

HidCat · 05/03/2019 05:20

@Gronk27 sounds like a perfectly balanced meal, shame about the filling but at least it's free to get fixed!

@Sictransitgloria I'm not doing a playlist, I'll just stick my stored songs on shuffle. Never been one for playlists for some reason.

@NotDoingThat congratulations! I'm sorry you had such a difficult time but hopefully you're both feeling better now. I hope you're being well looked after since and are able to recover both physically and emotionally.

@CaseofEllen I've gone with cereal bars and that's pretty much it. I wasn't all that hungry last time and just had regular meals plus hubby picked up some snacks when we had to stay in longer.

@WhatALearningCurve eek! Hope things are going well!

@SquirtlesMumAgain I hope they take action (or your body does) soon.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/03/2019 06:50

Off home (when DH comes to get me) with the delight of "we still dont know, you seem fine. It should go when baby comes"..... Popped into labour ward too and they were very confused by the blue/green pad!
They are happy it doesn't appear to be biological and concerning but it wasn't what they were expecting! They wondered if it came from my jeans but I wasn't wearing jeans before. Got to call them back or update tomorrow if there is any repeat incidence!

Wineandchoccy · 05/03/2019 08:32

Glad you can go home @SquirtlesMumAgain but I bet you are feeling very frustrated at not knowing what’s going on.

Hermagsjesty · 05/03/2019 08:39

Went into the labour ward just before 7pm last night and by 8.50pm our little boy was with us! Knackered but very happy. Love to all of you for the final stretch.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 05/03/2019 08:52

Glad it's not just me in regards to the thirst!!

@NotDoingThat congratulations! Sorry you didn't have the best experience.

@CaseofEllen I've got some cereal bars and protein bars along with 4 bottles of Ribena. I'm going to get some haribo next time I pop to the shops though.

It's my sisters birthday and I'm supposed to be meeting her for lunch. I've just realised I DH has the car so it looks like I'll be walking 2 miles to meet her unless I can bum a lift. 😭

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 05/03/2019 08:54

@Hermagsjesty congratulations!!

It's getting so real now more and more of our babies are arriving!

Sheeni · 05/03/2019 09:11

@notdoingthat @hermagsjesty Congratulations to both of you!

CaseofEllen · 05/03/2019 09:16

@NotDoingThat @Hermagsjesty congratulations!!

@WhatALearningCurve I hope things are progressing smoothly for you! Won't be long now Thanks

Can't believe all these birth announcements, it makes it all so real yet still seems so far from happening to me 😧

Think I'm going to pack a few more snacks in my hospital bag, would rather over do it than under do it and be hungry! Chocolate and biscuits and some sort of crisp will suffice I think xx

WhatALearningCurve · 05/03/2019 09:21

So they confirmed my waters have gone, gave me a sweep (not in anyway pleasant!) and have sent me home. I'm booked in for an induction tomorrow if nothing happens naturally today but currently 50% effaced and 1cm dilated. Still feels surreal ha

Hermagsjesty · 05/03/2019 09:23

Good luck @whatalearningcurve - hope it all goes well for you. Baby will be in your arms very soon!!

Wineandchoccy · 05/03/2019 09:38

@NotDoingThat Congratulations I’m sorry you had a tough time.

@Hermagsjesty congratulations

@WhatALearningCurve good luck
