@harley8888 my friend warned me about leaks, she thought she’d wet herself. Hope you find some good support!

CaseofEllen · 04/03/2019 09:07

Morning everyone, hope you're all okay!

@Harley8888 sorry to hear about your breastfeeding experience so far. Sounds like the community midwives need retraining! Hope you get some proper support with it soon.

@melissa112 I have no idea about this stuff either, I'm going to basically wing it/rely on MN Hmm has everyone brought a baby bath? I haven't yet as I've read mixed reviews on them but thought about getting one of those baby bath reclining seat things instead?

I'm feeling really lousy today. DP is in the spare room atm as apparently my snoring has gotten really bad Blush and I miss sleeping with him! I think I've been having false labour contractions for the last few days, my dog is still not eating much and I'm worried baby will arrive before she's better - I know it sounds ridiculous but I'm just worried about having a poorly dog and a newborn to look after! Usually I'd just be like pass me the Wine but that can't happen either πŸ˜‚ xx

Wineandchoccy · 04/03/2019 09:25

@Harley8888 I hope you can get some feeding support the nct usually have lots of groups that you can go to you don’t need to be a member. The 1st week I doubled up on breast pads in bed and find reusables are softer and soak up more.

We have a baby bath and we also have a angel care bath support although we haven’t used either yet dd as only had a top to tail wash.

Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 10:01

@harley8888 I’m so sorry you had a bad experience. You are probably doing all of this but lots of skin to skin with baby and you are eating and drinking enough too (make sure you are being looked after!) establishing breastfeeding properly can take a couple of weeks for some but once it’s done, it’s pretty good going :) just wanted to give you some positive advice (I support women with breastfeeding in my job but wouldn’t say I’m an expert!) The suggestion of a lactaction consultant is a good shout. Also the National BF helpline and seeing if the BF Network have any groups near you. Your hospital should have a feeding specialist team too (sorry I know this has probably been mentioned!). Do your health visiting team have a number you can call for advice? Your red book should also have a feeding section which can help, some have a BF assessment page you can fill in yourself (and the midwives/HV should do this with you too) and the comment about jaundice - babies don’t catch jaundice so that sounds like a very unhelpful comment to a woman in the early stages of establishing feeding!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do x

Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 10:05

@caseofellen I was just planning on bathing my baby in the sink but then a friend bought me a schuggle bath which is supposed to be really good. It looks decent and it seems easy to use (as baths go haha). I also got a bath sponge from my SIL so that baby doesn’t slip around when they are bigger. Thought it was quite snazzy!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 04/03/2019 10:30

Sounds like your milk has just come in @harley888!
Remember their tummies are tiny (little bouncy ball/walnut sized so something daft at this point) so little and often is a good thing.
I hope you can get some good local help soon for you.

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 11:19

This group is ace.

Harley8888 · 04/03/2019 12:52

Thank you guys so much for the advice and positive comments. I felt sooo rubbish guilty and like a complete failure when those midwives left. So glad I joined this thread you ladies are so supportive and helpful and I feel really positive about trying again.

I do plan to make a complaint once things are more settled because if they're going to people's houses a day after birth and making people feel like shit they should really be stopped!!!

I did have a lovely phone call with a community midwife this morning so I know it's not all of them.. I just think some of then have been desensitized to the emotional aspect of childbirth.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/03/2019 16:20

I keep getting odd spouts of period pain today which lasts a couple of minutes at a time. Not sure if it's the baby descending or the very very start of something.

Also, has anyone else developed an unquenchable thirst?! I could honestly drink a puddle at the moment!

Angelmiracle · 04/03/2019 16:35

Agree with the dehydration cannot get enough the last few weeks @AssumeItWasSomethingClever

I had my first period type cramp only on my left which was quite weird?! It did freak me out a little. It went from the front around my hip to my back. I had no twinges or cramps before actual labour started with DS. Maybe baby just lay on a nerve lol.

OP posts:
Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 16:38

@assumeitwassomethingclever @angelmiracle I have been really thirsty too. Been worried that I have developed gestational diabetes! (Mainly because the last two weeks I have not been watching what I eat in any shape or form and now feel guilty) Hoping it is just normal third trimester stuff.

Dalesgirl16 · 04/03/2019 16:40

.@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I'm very thirsty too and so hungry! I'm 35 weeks. I'm now having a pressure-like pain in vagina for a lot of the time each day. It's worse after sitting or lying down though and make it difficult to walk then. Anyone else have this ? I really don't want baby coming early as I moved two weeks ago and am not ready!!

CaseofEllen · 04/03/2019 16:49

Yes to all of the below. Pressure in vagina, period type cramp and unquenchable thirst! Literally drinking blackcurrant squash by the pint.

Also feeling very very sick this afternoon. The nausea has been back on and off lately but feel like I could actually throw up now - ready for labour to begin!

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 16:56

Yes I was also starting to worry about GD as so thirsty and horrendous sweet cravings and hunger.

Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 17:33

@gronk27 snap! And although I had a sweet tooth before pregnancy, I defo preferred savoury in 2nd tri and start of 3rd (when I was able to eat without feeling horrific!) now I’m insatiable.

@dalesgirl16 yep have the stabby fanny pain and pressure. Also braxton hicks but nothing in any pattern. And period type pain in lower back. I find walking helps. I think I need to get an exercise ball for the evenings when we are sat watching TV as thats when I am most uncomfortable.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 04/03/2019 17:45

The wonders of pregnancy, hey?!

Sickness has ramped up again since I have been out of hospital. It's like my body was too poorly to have the pregnancy side effects as well, except not being able to get off the bed with a locked hip!

My mum has been hit by the bug, so my help is out of action!!!! Not what I needed while recovering. Sorry to moan!

Dalesgirl16 · 04/03/2019 17:47

.@CaseofEllen. .@Sictransitgloria. Glad we feel the same! How many weeks pregnant are you both?

BadBadBeans · 04/03/2019 18:06

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I had a period type pain in the middle of the night last night and had to sit up. I then tried to work out if my belly had got harder or not - couldn't tell! Sat there for a while and had another pain that I thought maybe was a bit like my contractions with DS - started to get a bit twitchy! But then nothing else happened and I went back to sleep. I honestly think it was gas! And my midwife today said that baby is not engaged at all πŸ˜‚ Anyway I have now had my last antenatal midwife appointment! Next one would be 40 weeks but I will have had my C-section by then. Feels somewhat scary!!!! Argh!

HidCat · 04/03/2019 18:12

Hi ladies, hope everyone is ok this evening. Not much to report here but only 4 days left in work! Woo hoo! Craving sweets and carbs atm which is fun lol. Have lost little bits of mucus plug over the last week so things are probably moving in the right direction and my antibiotics are definitely working as not feeling ill, just get tired a bit more easily. Just about to have dinner then probably a soak in the bath.

Have to say another big thank you to everyone on this thread for being amazing! Can't wait to share our ongoing parenting journeys with you all!

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 18:40

@sictransitgloria I love my pregnancy ball to bounce on if an evening. I’ve just taken a filling out with a bag of drumstick squashies, after a blueberry muffin and a packet of giant buttons. ConfusedBlush

CaseofEllen · 04/03/2019 18:58

@Dalesgirl16 I'm 37+4 now Smile

Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 19:45

I’m 36+2

@gronk27 apart from the filling (thankful for free dentistry haha) that sounds excellent. I am currently eating a yogurt in the bath. Rock n roll. Although speaking of rock n roll - feeling sad about Keith Flint this evening so will get baby accustomed to The Prodigy tomorrow when I’m sorting out my house!

Sictransitgloria · 04/03/2019 19:48

On a similar vein of thought...if you are compiling a playlist for labour, what are your fave tunes?

Gronk27 · 04/03/2019 20:01

@sictransitgloria I know, so glad I saw them a year or so ago.

I have our first dance-Never Too Much. Comedy value-Push it, Don’t stop me now, I’m coming out, hips don’t lie. And then upbeat songs I love to dance to or remind me of good times or our relationship. As well as some obligatory spa music for if I want to be zen.

melissa112 · 04/03/2019 20:07

Having a sugar craving here too and drinking lots. The past few weeks I just gave into it and was eating loads of sweet stuff and then felt guilty so I've been making sure my meals and most snacks are healthy if I can and then if I fancy something sweet I'll have it. And i always fancy it 🀣

@Gronk27 oo I love drumstick squashies. Got some in my hospital bag that I'm trying not to dig into πŸ™ˆ
