Oh @melissa112 I was logging on hoping for your birth announcement!! He’s beautiful - congratulations.

ballanj · 11/03/2019 20:14

@melissa112 so so happy to see this! Congratulations he is a beauty. An epidural isn't the end of the world, if you needed it you needed it. And look at the wonderful end result πŸ€—

SquirtlesMumAgain · 11/03/2019 20:15

Congratulations @melissa112 - welcome to the world George.

Hope you're progressing nicely @march19

Did you have both of them today @wineandchoccy? I am worried about the first day alone with the 2!

1 day to go (give or take a few hours!) Got a filling in the morning so that will kill a few hours. Time better fly because I am so done! A whole 3 contractions so far today, alongside a lot of general discomfort....

Angelmiracle · 11/03/2019 20:56

Aw @melissa112 he is just gorgeous πŸ’™ Love his name! Be proud of yourself woman warrior - you grew and birthed that little man! (I wish I'd opted for an epidural with DS just left myself traumatised instead).

Congratulations xx πŸ’

@Wineandchoccy 3 weeks was a nice time to have DH off work. My DH thinks a week is the most he will be able to take but could perhaps take another week later on. I'm just worried about school run but DM lives really close so I have good support around me.

@SquirtlesMumAgain yes I did my parents normally have her on Mondays but my Mum had a hospital appointment. Luckily the weather has been ok so we went for a walk to the park and fed the ducks then built a den at home this afternoon and I read books to her whilst feeding.
I have a box with sticker books, magic painting, small animals, crayons etc that I get out for her when I am feeding so that I don’t feel like I am ignoring her poor Lois gets used as a table though Grin

Wineandchoccy · 11/03/2019 21:13

@Angelmiracle yes Thursday and Friday will be fun as dd1 has nursery so getting us all ready will be a mission.
Last time DH had 4 weeks off and I have to admit I was ready for him to go back then I could get into a routine this time the extra pair of hands has been very handy.

Jenfur · 11/03/2019 21:28

@melissa112 Congratulations! Been waiting for your announcement. Sorry it was hard going but totally worth it now, he's like a little doll 😍

CaseofEllen · 11/03/2019 21:39

@melissa112 so glad he's here! Congratulations you brave woman!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 11/03/2019 21:40

I need to get all the bits I've done together in a box in the lounge. DS is very good at getting toys out and playing on his own generally anyway thankfully - he spent hours lining up a jar of coins along his train track then using a magnet on his train to sort the coins into magnetic and not!

Gronk27 · 11/03/2019 22:14

Congratulations @melissa112 love the name and well done

Sictransitgloria · 11/03/2019 23:27

@melissa112 so so happy that your little man is here - he is gorgeous. Hope you are being looked after too.

@ballanj My baby flips from side to side too. Funny things aren’t they!

cardboard33 · 12/03/2019 00:38

Well done @melissa112 you did it!! πŸ˜€ Also been logging on throughout the day to see if you'd posted anything. I assume your partner didn't make it back to work in the end? How has the first day been?

HidCat · 12/03/2019 03:23

@melissa112 congratulations! I'm sorry things didn't go to plan but so glad that you and George are doing well. If I'd been through the labour you did I'd have had all the drugs!

@march19 I hope things have progressed for you!

My hips are very painful tonight, I've had PGP in them when sleeping for quite a while but tonight they're particularly achey when lying down so I've moved to the sofa where I can sit rather than lie. Still no labour though πŸ˜•

melissa112 · 12/03/2019 04:04

Thanks all for your congratulations. I really do need to sit down and catch up on what I've missed so apologies for missing any congratulations or any news.

Tonight has been super hard. DP sent home at 9pm. They seem to like you to stay here for a minimum of 24hrs on the ward so been here overnight with an unhappy baby. Despite lots of help from midwives he still doesn't really latch properly so is hard to get him to feel full and hes crying whenever hes put down. I cant even just cuddle him to comfort him as I'm too tired and aware of my head dropping. Just snuck in my first 30 min sleep since yesterday morning and managed to get him to sleep but hes such a light sleeper that hes whimpering/making noises throughout so I'm on mega high alert anyway. He'll be checked all over tomorrow thoroughly before they'll let us leave including for tongue tie so maybe there an issue there or maybe just his mum is useless Sad had to ask a midwife to sit with him while I changed my pad as didnt want to leave him screaming and waking up everyone else's seemingly quiet babys Confused

Definitely going to get some help on the breastfeeding, nipples are so sore and it hurts so much when he feeds that I'm sure I cant be doing it right. In the meantime, goodluck to anyone in labour or nearly there..not long to go now and looking forward to catching up soon!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 12/03/2019 04:29

His mum is definitely not useless @melissa112! Breastfeeding is hard - I didn't really get it until 2-3 weeks in with DS. We struggled on but eventually a specialist health visitor came out and helped sort out position and it made all the difference (unlike in the hospital where they told me to just ram my boob in his mouth like a burger.....)
You've both been through a lot, don't beat yourself up about him crying - he is suddenly in this big scary world and he wants to be close to you. I understand the worry about dropping off holding him though. What time can DP come back - I hope he is there as soon as visiting starts tomorrow for you!

melissa112 · 12/03/2019 06:12

Yep that's pretty much the advice I'm getting here too! Ram them in his mouth! They are so sore now its hurting so much to even continue. DP is allowed back at 9 so trying to just keep him calm. No wet nappy that I've seen yet either so really worried about him.

Jenfur · 12/03/2019 06:54

@melissa112 when my midwife was saying what needs to happen for us to be discharged from hospital, she said they didn't wait for babies to wee or poo as can take up to 24 hours. Hope that gives you some reassurance. Despite this being my second, I don't remember that!

You're doing great. Breastfeeding is very hard and it's sold as being easy so that makes it feel worse and like it's you being useless. You're also exhausted and baby is in this sudden scary place after being snuggled up inside you for so long. Understand you being scared of nodding off, unfortunately the only thing I can say is sit yourself uncomfortably or walk around with him to stop yourself falling asleep. Pass him to DH as soon as he arrives in the morning and try to get some rest yourself, you've earned it! The first few days are really hard, especially when you've had a long, exhausting labour. Look after yourself, take any help you can get and you'll get through it.

Hermagsjesty · 12/03/2019 07:13

@melissa112 - you are definitely not useless! You must be completely exhausted after the Labour you went through and breastfeeding can be really tough. George willl be feeling completely overwhelmed too, it’s a big shock coming out into the world! Do you have Lansinoh Lanolin for your sore nipples? I’d really recommend it. Maybe DP could pick you some up? Make sure you’re eating & drinking enough & resting when you can even if you can’t properly sleep. And most of all be kind to yourself!!

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 12/03/2019 07:30

I would like to announce the safe arrival of Freya Rose. Born at 2.14pm on 11/03/2019. Weighing a tiny 5lb 11oz

Congratulations @exhaustedmummy1811 what a little doll! Hope you’re both doing well.

@melissa112 there’s no way you’re useless after all you’ve been through, you’re more like superwoman. Everyone’s advice sounds great so hope you can talk some on board and get some rest and some cuddles.

MyMumDimensionJumps · 12/03/2019 07:45

Congratulations melissa112. So glad your baby is finally here. Flowers

Births tend to not go as planned most of the time and there is no shame in having an epidural. You had a long labour and was induced and they are usually much more painful.

Your experience staying overnight sounds like mine with my first baby. He was the noisiest baby on the ward and I was hallucinating with lack of sleep. Are the midwives able to take baby for an hour or so? It is most likely he is adjusting to life outside the womb and wants to be held all of the time. Lansinoh cream (in a purple tube) works wonders on sore nips, so send your other half to get some and let him take care of the baby for a while.

It sounds like you are doing great. These first days are hard, so don't give yourself a hard time.

MyMumDimensionJumps · 12/03/2019 07:47

Congrats to exhaustedmummy too. Looks like there is a lot of babies coming now. Unfortunately I don't think it will be mine anytime soon, but encouraging to hear about everyone else's.

Wineandchoccy · 12/03/2019 08:10

@Exhaustedmummy1811 Congratulations Freya is beautiful

@melissa112 You have had an awful labour be kind to yourself, breastfeeding is so hard at first remember you are both learning and George has been with you for 9 months so he doesn’t want to be put down even when your body is crying out for rest.
