@melissa112 don't think of yourself as a bad Mum, the first few nights are awful for everyone in some way. The exhaustion and hormones will make you feel so many emotions. Keep asking for help (even when you get home) and take any opportunity for a nap that you can. It will get easier.

@SquirtlesMumAgain "they told me to just ram my boob in his mouth like a burger....." πŸ˜‚ sorry but this is brilliant! Not good advice obvs but OMG. I had good device and still didn't get a reliable latch for the first couple of weeks!

@Exhaustedmummy1811 congratulations! She's perfect!

MistakenHoliday · 12/03/2019 08:13

Congratulations @melissa112 what a lovely boy and a lovely name! And a good weight too. Sorry you didn't get the birth you wanted and it's been a rocky start but you'll be home soon and an console yourself with newborn snuggles . And you're definitely not useless! id second the use of lanolin for your nipples will help. With DD last time the midwife shows me a technique where you almost flick your nipple into the baby's mouth. It worked pretty well in the early days. And I agree with handing over to your DP as soon as he gets here so you can get some rest οΏΌ

@Wineandchoccy well done on having two on your own - Wonder Woman! My DH works from home so I never had to do this last time as I'd just disturb him if I needed something. This time I need to leave him to work more (so I can have longer maternity leave mainly!) so will have to try and be a bit more independent!

I also need to get some kind of busy box together for DD. She's not too bad at playing on her own but is prone to jealousy Sony's that I think I'll be combating at the start.

@Exhaustedmummy1811 Congratulations on Freya! She's so squishy and tiny! Absolutely beautiful. Hope labour was straightforward and you get home soon x

Gronk27 · 12/03/2019 08:13

Lost a tiny bit of muscus plug yesterday and spent half the night with BH and soreness in my lower bump and back with baby going absolutely mad down there too. Think I ate too much sugar yesterday but was also hungry in the night. Barely slept. Had such a good night sleep on a Sunday night and a big nap yesterday so obviously paying for that!! Got my 40 week app. on Wed and I will be exactly 40. Going to decline the sweep this time. My Mum’s coming round today to help me take stock of the house, maybe help with some cleaning. DH felt Bump’s hiccoughs and said β€˜how can you cope with that!’ They are pretty annoying dear, especially at night. Always give bump a reassuring run though!

Gronk27 · 12/03/2019 08:15

*rub!

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 12/03/2019 08:28

Thank you everyone. Still haven't managed any sleep yet as I'm in so much pain but I did manage to get out of bed and walk around for ten minutes so hopefully I won't be off my feet too long. Baby is perfect just tiny and so well behaved, I can't stop looking at her I'm so in love

SquirtlesMumAgain · 12/03/2019 09:12

Congratulations @exhaustedmummy1811! Freya is beautiful. I don't think I got any sleep for at least 12 hours after birth last time - everything was just mad!

Ended up being woken by contractions at 2am and they kept going until 5 when I fell back to sleep..... Nothing really since. Eugh!
Off for a filling this morning so will get that done and then just make sure I am ready for tomorrow now I guess!

Jenfur · 12/03/2019 09:14

@Exhaustedmummy1811 congratulations, she's beautiful. Hope you manage to get some rest.

Hermagsjesty · 12/03/2019 09:29

Congratulations @exhaustedmummy1811 - a beautiful name for a beautiful baby. Enjoy getting to know each other!

Unfortunately, my DH was only able to take a week’s paternity leave so today is my first day flying solo. Survived the school run but am shattered now! Luckily he works for himself and doesn’t tend to do long days so he should be home by 4ish to help with the older kids tea.

So many babies coming now! Hope those of you who are still very pregnant are not too sore and fed up of waiting. Almost there!!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 12/03/2019 09:35

Congratulations @Exhaustedmummy1811. She's absolutely beautiful and what a lovely name!

I've got a TMI question, tried googling but haven't got anywhere... I've woken up today to quite a bit of EWCM. Could this be part of my mucus plug coming away or just extra discharge? Sorry, cringe! But I'm just wondering if anyone else had this. FTM problems. πŸ˜‚

CaseofEllen · 12/03/2019 09:52

@HidCat sorry your suffering with achy hips! I hope they start to feel a bit better today. Why does it always feel worse at bedtime??

@melissa112 his mum is 100% not useless! You've done amazing. The advice on here re breastfeeding is great, try not to pressure yourself too much. You've dealt with so much the last few days Thanks

@Exhaustedmummy1811 congratulations! Another beautiful baby born!

@Gronk27 hope today is more comfortable for you, actually maybe I don't as that could mean labour is starting Wink

@SquirtlesMumAgain ah how frustrating! Tomorrow is the day though, not long now! How are you feeling?

After my irritable reaction to the Tesco lady yesterday evening I had a big old sob last night. Sobbing like a baby and couldn't catch my breath! Then I got in the bath at 11.30pm as I was so achy and exhausted. I'm not really sure what happened, just felt totally overwhelmed and still do this morning Confused hoping there is some sort of huge hormone surge just before labour starts? If not I'm buggered lol xx

Hermagsjesty · 12/03/2019 10:24

@assumeitwassomethingclever I experienced that - at one stage so much I thought it was leaking waters. My midwife reassured me it was normal. Although if you’re worried about the smell it might be worth getting checked out.

Gronk27 · 12/03/2019 10:26

@assumeitwassomethingclever also a FTM but having seen photos and from what I learnt in antenatal class and what I've seen so far, I believe(!) (and this is disgusting and I hope I don't put anyone off their brekkie or make them feel sick) discharge tends to be more creamy/egg whitey and mucus plug more snotty. I had a little bit yesterday.

@caseofellen I've had many a sobbing fit and really been short with Lidl checkout people who were practically throwing my shopping off the end of the till without me even finishing putting it on the conveyor. And thanks, not sure what it is really. Trying to ignore it and just carry on. Going to bounce on my ball and get the bathroom cleaned.

Hermagsjesty · 12/03/2019 10:27

@caseofellen I was really emotional in the last few days of this pregnancy - really low and quick to tears. I think it’s all the crazy hormones. I feel a million times better now he’s actually here. The end is in sight! Your baby will be in your arms soon,

Wineandchoccy · 12/03/2019 11:15

@CaseofEllen I was so emotional for a few days leading up to both my daughters births. I remember sobbing about absolutely nothing the day before my waters went with my 1st dd Blush so hopefully it’s a good sign that the end is in sight for you

CaseofEllen · 12/03/2019 11:41

@Gronk27 @Hermagsjesty @Wineandchoccy good to know I'm not alone! Trying not to read too much into it as I know it could definitely lead to nothing but quietly hoping that something is going to start soon 🀞🏼

cardboard33 · 12/03/2019 12:16

@assumeitwassomethingclever I'm obviously no expert but I definitely noticed more mucus (kind like in the 1st trimester when the plug was developing) as it got towards the end, so it could be. From what I've read the plug loss looks different for everyone - mine started out as a bit of blood combined with ewcm so I wasn't sure and then later in the day it got more blobby and bigger pieces were coming out.

Reg breast feeding, again def not an expert given my 9 days of experience, but I've found it easier as the days pass because my milk has now come in (wow that's a weird thing in itself!!) which means I can better feed him whereas before that he started to get frustrated that he couldn't get what he wanted and also we all just know a bit more about what we are all doing... Although he def prefers eating his hands ATM! I've found Savoy cabbage to help ease the pain (mentioned at NCT) and also the cream mentioned by others. So far have found it to be cheapest in JL (wtf?) or Amazon. It is expensive but we were told to use it at every feed even if you don't have pain, and so far I've only had v mild pain so must be working. Sorry some of you feel that the support you got/getting at the hospital wasn't great, we had the opposite experience and were amazed at how helpful and invested they were in helping you to get it right, we had hours of 121 support specifically for breast feeding. In our area there's also breast feeding drop ins pretty much every day (again the hospital have us a leaflet but you can search online) so we are planning to go to one of those at some point in the next week for more reassurance, not sure if it's the same everywhere?

Also for the first time mums... Again I feel v weird saying this as I'm definitely not an expert but it does get mildly easier with time. We came home on Tuesday last week and spent the initial night completely terrified but now we've got more of a pattern and there's stuff now like changing that doesn't phase us in the same way that it did initially... And we are a lot less delicate than we were initially, and have also fell asleep holding him a few times... I think/hope that's normal in the early stages especially!! Each night is getting easier in some ways just as you can build on what you learned the following night, although still refusing to sleep in his crib at night but will happily do so during the day now.

@melissa112 CONGRATULATIONS! George is absolutely gorgeous. You are not useless! Breastfeeding is hard to start with. And it does hurt, but the pain really should go away after two weeks. Also it's GREAT that you are going to ask for help - keep asking and keep asking, don't suffer quietly. BUT - it's not you not doing it right! Don't beat yourself up. If something is off physically then it's not something you have any control over. Do insist that they check him for tongue tie - ask if they have anyone who is qualified to do it by checking physically with a finger in his mouth (that was the only way DS's was found - all the midwives who just looked at him said he was fine). Are you using lots of lansinoh on your nipples? It really helped me. Make sure you get some sleep when DP is there to look after G.

@Exhaustedmummy1811 oh she is beautiful! And so teeny! Lovely name too. Congratulations and I hope you are doing well.

Thank you to everyone for your lovely comments regarding my other medical stuff going on. @cardboard33 thank you especially for your thoughts on making contingency plans for feeding. I ended up spending a lot of time over the weekend coming up with various scenarios and working out my different possible options that would allow me a little bit of breastfeeding. Then I went in today and the first doctor I saw said that because of the nature of the growth and where it is, they could biopsy and I could still breastfeed! Then she went and got the consultant, who said actually she really didn't think it needed a biopsy at all, it is totally non-suspicious, but that if it changes at all to come in and they will do a little biopsy once breastfeeding is established and, again, it shouldn't be a problem. I am so relieved and feel like I've been something of a drama queen about the whole thing! The thing is I think I would have been super calm about it (I've had a LOT of breast lumps over the years) if it wasn't that it was coming on top of the BRCA2 diagnosis and the impending arrival of a baby!!! It just felt like it was one thing too many for my brain to deal with! Anyway I don't have to worry about it now, can put it aside and just focus on baby. Just as I wanted to. Lucky, lucky me!

@cardboard33 Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 weeks would be amazing anyway. When I had issues with DS and feeding I kept saying 'I'll just get to four weeks... I'll just get to six weeks...' I also kept reminding myself that my mum breastfed me precisely nothing, and I've turned out all right! Pretty healthy (other than my genetic make-up, haha) and pretty well-educated too! Grin It's lovely that you're getting some feeding in, and that you've got a clear plan for how you are going to work towards your treatment. Hats off to you lady; you seem to have everything really in your stride.

Right, this is probably my last afternoon with DS in nursery where I won't have another child to contend with, so I'd better go and finish off my last bit of freelance work! EEEEK!

Congratulations @melissa112 and @Exhaustedmummy1811 on the safe arrival of your beautiful LO's
Sorry if iv missed anyone, so many arriving so quickly now.
Just in the car with DD1 and DD2 waiting on DH and DS2 coming out of the barbers and realised I hadn't checked in in a few days, went on the thread and it's too much to catch up on. DD2 was a week old yesterday and it's flew in, I don't seem to have stopped lol getting out of the house requires a suitcase these days πŸ˜‚. I hope everyone is well, and those that are still waiting aren't left waiting much longer xx
