@melissa112 CONGRATULATIONS! George is absolutely gorgeous. You are not useless! Breastfeeding is hard to start with. And it does hurt, but the pain really should go away after two weeks. Also it's GREAT that you are going to ask for help - keep asking and keep asking, don't suffer quietly. BUT - it's not you not doing it right! Don't beat yourself up. If something is off physically then it's not something you have any control over. Do insist that they check him for tongue tie - ask if they have anyone who is qualified to do it by checking physically with a finger in his mouth (that was the only way DS's was found - all the midwives who just looked at him said he was fine). Are you using lots of lansinoh on your nipples? It really helped me. Make sure you get some sleep when DP is there to look after G.
@Exhaustedmummy1811 oh she is beautiful! And so teeny! Lovely name too. Congratulations and I hope you are doing well.
Thank you to everyone for your lovely comments regarding my other medical stuff going on. @cardboard33 thank you especially for your thoughts on making contingency plans for feeding. I ended up spending a lot of time over the weekend coming up with various scenarios and working out my different possible options that would allow me a little bit of breastfeeding. Then I went in today and the first doctor I saw said that because of the nature of the growth and where it is, they could biopsy and I could still breastfeed! Then she went and got the consultant, who said actually she really didn't think it needed a biopsy at all, it is totally non-suspicious, but that if it changes at all to come in and they will do a little biopsy once breastfeeding is established and, again, it shouldn't be a problem. I am so relieved and feel like I've been something of a drama queen about the whole thing! The thing is I think I would have been super calm about it (I've had a LOT of breast lumps over the years) if it wasn't that it was coming on top of the BRCA2 diagnosis and the impending arrival of a baby!!! It just felt like it was one thing too many for my brain to deal with! Anyway I don't have to worry about it now, can put it aside and just focus on baby. Just as I wanted to. Lucky, lucky me!
@cardboard33 Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 weeks would be amazing anyway. When I had issues with DS and feeding I kept saying 'I'll just get to four weeks... I'll just get to six weeks...' I also kept reminding myself that my mum breastfed me precisely nothing, and I've turned out all right! Pretty healthy (other than my genetic make-up, haha) and pretty well-educated too!
It's lovely that you're getting some feeding in, and that you've got a clear plan for how you are going to work towards your treatment. Hats off to you lady; you seem to have everything really in your stride.
Right, this is probably my last afternoon with DS in nursery where I won't have another child to contend with, so I'd better go and finish off my last bit of freelance work! EEEEK!
