Good luck Since2016! Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Why oh why do we say things like "I'm too uncomfortable to sleep so I hope the baby comes soon"?! I say it too even though this is my second so I'm well aware of the sleep deprivation that's to come!

Yakadee · 06/02/2019 15:03

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking - that's so true, you'd only be worrying if it didn't happen x

AliceRR · 06/02/2019 15:10

See I don’t suffer massive kicks or anything that makes me uncomfortable regarding baby movements but that’s been the way all along so don’t think I should be worried about this? She tends to have a couple of days in the week when she most active, a couple of moderate days and then I’ve noticed it’s normal to feel like she had a couple of “quieter” days and this has been the case since I’ve been feeling movement. Like I’ll get the off day when she feels likes she’s turning over completely and I can feel her little bones prodding into me(!) and occasionally I’ve felt what must be kicks quite high up but always quite far back and not quite in the ribs or anything.

My understanding is every baby is different though and what’s “normal” is relative to each individual.

Sorry for rambling. I do worry about movement (been lying in my left side counting movements fit an hour) but don’t think I have anything to worry about 🤔

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 06/02/2019 15:20

I think ‘normal’ definitely differs from baby to baby, my other two were not this active!

He is constant, there is barely any time where he is not battering me, he made the midwife jump at my last appointment by getting her too, took ages for them to get a cord reading because of him kicking that constantly, and he kicks the Doppler off every time too 😂

I think as long as they are fairly consistent you have no need to worry 👌🏼

I ran out of iron tablets at the weekend so rang the Dr to get some more - they are now saying they need to book me in for another blood test to check my iron levels before prescribing more of them. (I was first given them in November and they should have run out long ago but have only been taking about five per week rather than two per day!) Seems a bit odd that I've not had a blood test in all that time to check they were doing their thing. Wish I'd asked the MW about it earlier! Apparently she will take blood when I see her on Friday and they then have to wait for the results. Given that I'm already two days overdue I am a bit worried I might potentially be iron deficient before giving birth. ... although maybe that would be preferable to being constipated!! Grin

Been frantically scrubbing floors etc the last couple of days (as well as sleeping in til midday haha) and everyone has been saying "ooh that's a definite sign that baby is on the way" ... but in reality, it's just because I know my mum will offer to do my cleaning for me after LO arrives and I don't want her to see how filthy my floors were Blush

Not really had any other signs since my very energetic day on Monday and then intense backache last night! I think baby is going to stay put until it is evicted. Really appreciate everyone sharing their induction stories - helps me know what to expect! (I found that induction was barely covered in antenatal classes)

Yakadee · 06/02/2019 15:44

On the topic of iron tablets. I'm on them since having my baby last Tues. I have had the delightful side effect of diarrhea for the past 3 days. I called midwife who confirmed this is OK and can happen but will I seriously have this for the whole time I'm taking them? (I have another 7 days or so?).

It's not particularly painful or anything and I don't feel unwell, but bored of dashing to the loo several times a day! X

mummymummymummummum · 06/02/2019 15:47

I had really bad lower back pain since Saturday. No position helped, even lying down. ☹️ Until last night. I'd been in bed a while, when suddenly the back pain disappeared! It was replaced with some period like pain at the front for about half an hour, then no pain at all! 🤗 Amazing feeling! I guess baby moved. She had been back to back, which made the back pain make sense. Don't know where she is now. I'll keep up with my anti-back to back exercises just in case!

I don't have another midwife appointment at all now. (My last was at 38+5). There weren't any appointments left this week, seeing consultant next week, so no need then. Feels a bit weird, like I'm on my own. But there is a midwife drop in service locally if I need it, so not completely on my own. Need to decide whether or not to drop in for a sweep, and if so when.

AliceRR · 06/02/2019 16:19

Thanks @NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking My little one always kicks off the Doppler etc when MW is having trying to listen to heartbeat and trying to have a feel so think they’ve always thought she seems fine and happy. I’m just a worrier atm 😬

Since2016 · 06/02/2019 16:55

Thanks girls. No idea what position I’m in, but 5 on the list and in a dedicated theatre so no chance of being bumped for an emergency unless something catastrophic happens.

Still feeling remarkably calm. More anxious now about the reality of a newborn plus a 3 year old tbh rather than the actual procedure... still feels v unreal!

@detachablehoof they really ought to have checked your bloods more often as a routine part of MW apppointments as if it falls below a certain point they insist you go to a consultant led unit incase you lose blood. Not much you can do now though except hope your blood results from the MW come back ok.

@Yakadee Visa vi the iron tablets, if you’re taking two a day and have to keep running to loo i would reduce to one a day (that’s what I did and i’ve been fine). Also try taking them with some food rather than on an empty stomach. I know this affects the absorption but honestly if you’re stomach is in knots it’s rubbish and you’ll still absorb some iron this way.

detachablehoof · 06/02/2019 17:15

I'm annoyed with myself for not getting my iron levels checked again, seems like an oversight on the part of my midwife. (TBH I was surprised that I didn't have a blood test at my next appt and did question it once but kept quiet after that as I'm not a fan of needles!)

Hopefully the results come back (and are ok!) before I give birth.

Yakadee · 06/02/2019 17:44

@Surprisedmom - thanks. I'm seeing midwife on Friday and was going to ask her if I could just stop them. I've only had one today so might just stick to that for now until I see her. X

AvoidingMarking · 06/02/2019 18:38

I'm really sorry if this is TMI but did anyone's /has anyone's discharge changed in late pregnancy? Today I seem to have lots of it!

hayley013 · 06/02/2019 19:25

So have I today @AvoidingMarking not sure on the answer though haha

AvoidingMarking · 06/02/2019 19:31

@hayley013
I was wondering if it was the start of the mucus plug coming away or a sign things are getting closer. Probably just wishful thinking though!

babyp160 · 06/02/2019 19:42

Feel like a bit of a failure with the induction. Midwife is brutal on today and I'm personally doing everything I can to help. We even walked 4 miles today and I haven't sat in bed once.

Baby is still pretty far up but I'm starting to have contractions they just aren't close enough.

Just had the second gel put in

😭 emotional!

AliceRR · 06/02/2019 19:42

@AvoidingMarking Yes! I’m 39+3 and for the last 10 days or so I’ve had lots more to the point that I would wake up with wetness and wondered if my waters had broken! 🙈

Yakadee · 06/02/2019 20:31

@babyp160 - you're not a failure! Inductions can be really tough, you're pretty much forcing your body to do something it's not really ready to do. You're doing everything you can. Doesn't help that your midwife is mean xx

Surprisedmom · 06/02/2019 21:09

@Yakadee I would recommend going to your GP if you can and asking for ferrous glucomate. It’s the form of iron that is known to be much milder on the stomach but it’s more expensive for the nhs and the midwives can’t prescribe it, so they never offer it first. I went to the gp and got it and it’s much better for my stomach.

Yakadee · 06/02/2019 21:14

@Surprisedmom - ah, didn't realise there was another kind. These were given to me when I left hospital. Thanks x

AvoidingMarking · 06/02/2019 21:19

@AliceRR that happened to me this afternoon when I woke up from a nap! (Though I'd actually fallen asleep with my drink on my lap)

Alicejj8x · 06/02/2019 21:47

So it's been an eventful night!

I hadn't really felt little ladies movements tonight and they wasn't her usual movements at all. They were so soft and light when she would kick and not much would make her get going
So I rang the triage and they said for me to come
Down,. I went down to my hospital it was so empty and was seen and in a bed straight away
Strapped up to a monitor .. she felt my belly and baby kicked her straight away ( just the luck isn't it lol) I was on the monitor for about 15 mins and having a few Braxton Hicks here & there..
she came back in to check and went to hand me a bell to ring for when the machine stops and noticed I had a green tick already ( so movement is all good and the machine can stop) so it picked up everything it needed and movements were all ok! Just the luck isn't it that as soon as you get to hospital they start moving like crazy babies lol! I am so glad I went I felt abit silly after she started moving but they are honestly so so lovely and make you not feel sillly for going. And would rather you go in for sure.
It's my first time going in for reduced movements also I just got very emotional

She said I was 1/5 engaged too and head down which I knew she was head down already 😬😬!! I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow so heading in the right direction :)

Congrats on all the babies xxx

babyp160 · 07/02/2019 00:03

Night time midwife is lovely.

Said other midwife was wrong baby isn't back to back.

Also checked my contractions I'd had since 2pm and had told other mean midwife about and she did a internal and I'm 1/2cm dilated. Feeling much better. 🥰

Notquiteagandt · 07/02/2019 02:44

@babyp160 yay to nice midwife. Makes all the differance. You are in such a vunerable situation. Not surprising it has all gotten to you.

So ny baby has lost 15% of her birth weight. Not only does it mean shes now a dinky 5lb8 means that we will not be being discharged before the weekend. Which will be 12 days in hospital for me come sunday. So still feel like one of you prepartum ladies as I am yet to take baby home. 😞😢

babyp160 · 07/02/2019 05:04

@Notquiteagandt thank you. Oh god! Such a long time. Have they suggest much? Are you breast feeding?
