@AssumeItWasSomethingClever no we have a list of boys and girls but no front runner yet

Report
WhatALearningCurve · 14/01/2019 17:16

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever we had a name sorted before we found out the sex. But only because we are having a boy, it it was a girl I think we'd still be arguing now

@cardboard33 oh we've made a stupid amount of plans. We're going to Mexico in mid June for a friends wedding, Florida in late July / August (this was booked before I knew I was pregnant) and I've got a couple of concerts booked that I really didn't want to miss (one being Spice Girls ha). I'm quite lucky that I've seen all my sisters have children and still have lives so I feel fairly confident that lives don't have to stop because you're a parent. It just means changes to fit everything in, like one concert is in Leeds where I'd usually stay over, but now I'll come back after it etc

@HidCat glad you are at home and hope you had a restful weekend. Glad to hear baby is staying put for now!

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever that sounds so scary! I'm so glad baby is ok. I commute via 2 motorways to work and I have always been confident but find myself noticing all the idiots more and more now I'm pregnant. The excess is a pain as well especially when you want to save. Glad all is ok otherwise.

In terms of appetite. Omg, I cannot stop eating. And I'm just craving rubbish. I've had 3 two finger kit Kats today!! And woke up craving a scone with jam and cream yesterday... I didn't give in but I could eat anything and everything right now.

We haven't decided on a name because we just can't agree at all. Any names that I love, OH isn't keen on and vice versa. Will probably end up born with no name..

I found out I was pregnant 2 days after we came back from Cornwall last July where we do a lot of body boarding and the other day a song came on the radio that reminded me of Cornwall and I got a little bit 'meh' thinking about all the stuff that's going to change now. Obviously things are going to change for the better with having the little one but I got a little sad for the things that won't be the same. I'm thinking of doing a late October half term trip to Cornwall with OH, baby and step son but not sure on logistics. I'm terrified of flying and haven't been on a plane for 10 years but I know OH wants to go away to a villa next year

DH & I just been researching Carribean cruises & are probably going to book one now for September, when DD is 6 months old. We know it's risky because he could be a difficult baby or have health issues, but we figure it could be out last chance to do an "easy" long haul holiday before he's mobile. Plus as a teacher I'm v excited about being able to take advantage of cheap September flights for once!

@WhatALearningCurve I'm also under Royal Bolton. Have you had a look round the birthing/delivery bit?

Im based in NI.

We've 2 potential girls names. One from when we'd DS and a new one lol. Not happy with any other boys names. DH has vetoed any I did like Hmm A lot of family had boys in the past 6 months alone have used some good ones.

Finally got my iron tablets. Hope they help soon!

Definitely another constantly picking at food especially when I'm not at work. I mind thinking in 1st trimester this would never happen 🀣

@assumeitwassomethingclever nope! No further on than when we drew up the short list on holiday around 15/16 week point. We've discussed it on and off but neither of us has made a compelling case for any of the names so am getting a bit worried that the baby will be nameless as whenever we discuss it we just conclude that we don't know, it's hard and then go back to the safety of the spreadsheet of things to buy. My best friend has apparently had their name sorted since before the 12 week scan but when we saw them at Christmas I wasn't convinced that her husband was as final about the name as she's making out.

@whatalearningcurve that would be me if I had my way!! I don't want life to stop just because I've got a baby and I think the longer you put off things like long haul flights with a child then the harder it will become. We both travel a lot with our jobs and I've got him into lots of long haul holidays (it was my part of the relationship bargain that we had to go on at least one long haul holiday a year until we had kids) but I guess it is all a bit unknown with my treatment & how I will take to it, as we've got a friend who went everywhere on his "good chemo weeks" and then other friends who had to put life on hold for a year so we just don't know... Cue husband and his cautious nature going overboard.

Names are still up in the air.... It's easier in a way not knowing as when people ask us we don't have to lie as we don't want the advance judgement!
She will have a name before she gets here.... Probably

@ballanj sounds like a nightmare!! I hate feeling out of control and relying on someone else to do something before I can get something done. Can you set deadlines, like tell him you've decided on carpets and the fitter will be coming on X date so he needs to be done by then? And then say you're using X weekend to get the sanding finished etc and putting him in your timetable rather than the other way around?

@melissa112 oh!! We're due within 2 days of each other aswell!

No I've not - I asked when I went for my GTT and they said they don't do that anymore and that there's just the videos on the website. I've tried booking on to the antenatal there as well but on one ever answers the phone!

@cardboard33 yeah that's what the OH and me said we'd do if there is no movement or word by the end of this week. Unfortunately my father in law got taken into hospital yesterday with pneumonia which has had a knock on effect to his heart (having had a heart attack some years ago) so we're all hoping he is home tomorrow. So letting the house stuff go this week but cannot let it go on. And my OH knows that too. Yes it's incredibly frustrating not having control over some things. At the same time trying not to sweat the small stuff. I think the poor sleep is not helping my hormones at the moment.

I’m london / Surrey (Kingston hospital) but was born in the royal Bolton myself many years ago (saw a couple of you were there)!

I think we’re almost decided on a first name, although could still change our minds. Middle names are proving more problematic.

Report
Gronk27 · 14/01/2019 19:11

We’ve got a list of about 7 names but we’re not naming her until we’ve met her!

@ballanj that sounds frustrating, our house is absolute chaos but we’re slowly chipping away at it. Got British Heart Foundation coming tomorrow to pick up about 6 bin liners of stuff. In my mind as long as she has a cot in our room and the basics in place and it’s fairly clean and tidy we can cope. I can see things will be harder to sort when the baby is actually here though!

@cardboard33 would it help if I measured the next to me mattress at all?

I also suggested the deadline technique to my OH but he always likes to do things (or not do things!) the other way around. We are getting some cleaners in to remove rubbish and give the house a once over. I’d book them in and work to that deadline but he wants to get her stuff sorted first.

I’m glad it’s not just me stuffing my face. I bought a 6 pack of Freddos and ate all 6.

I’ve been watching Marie Kondo on Netflix for tidying and organising tips.

My appetite has definitely increased. Especially about mid morning I feel like I have to eat or else!

@TheWanderlust that's really inconsiderate of your OH. He probably genuinely thought it was far enough away not to be a problem (and it should be in fairness) but should have checked first out of courtesy.

@Craiglwyn congratulations and welcome!

Still stuck for a name here too, it'll figure itself out eventually lol

@ballanj ugh that sounds like a frustrating situation. We are also up to our necks in DIY. We don't have a lot of spare cash so DH is doing everything except the electrics, but it is taking FOREVER and although I appreciate how talented he is and how hard he's working on everything, I am so tired of living in a mess. I feel like every time I get a room straight, a load more crap gets dumped in it. Our (fairly small) lounge is currently full of boxes of his woodworking tools because they were going rusty in the outbuilding. I'm so frustrated - I had got the lounge totally sorted so that I had a chill-out space, and now it's horrendous and I can't leave DS in there on his own as it's dangerous! I get that the tools had to come in - I just want him to put them somewhere other than the one bloody room I had clear! (I have asked him to move them and got short shrift because he's busy... Sigh!)

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever Nope, no name picked out yet. In desperation I took to the Baby Names forum earlier this week to try and narrow it down a bit! Definitely helped me - someone pointed out that Valentina would get shortened to either Val or Tina (neither of which I'm keen on) and someone else pointed out that Octavia is the name of a Skoda! Ha! I then went back through the list with DH and got his gut reactions after a few weeks of not talking about it. At the moment we have Jennifer, Tabitha or Lyra for a girl's name. Leo or Zachariah / Zack for a boy's name. Middle names will be family names. Unfortunately I don't particularly like my late mother's name - although she was, franklhy, the best woman who ever walked the planet! - otherwise that would be a shoe-in. Now we've narrowed it down a bit I'm happier to wait till the baby's out. With DS I wanted the name all sorted before the birth but my husband wouldn't agree to a name until the baby was about a day old! I'm trying to compromise and be relaxed about it this time!

Love all these exotic holidays people are planning! Bit jel. @melissa112 late October sounds like a perfectly safe point at which to book a holiday away to me.

I had another midwife appointment today. All good - baby is breech but that's okay as I'm having a C-section. I took my 2-year-old son with me to this one and he was quite interested in what was going on. When I lay down on the bed to have my bump measured, he came over of his own accord to hold my hand and then laid his cheek on top of my hand - I think he thought it might be hurting me and he wanted to comfort me! He's such a sweetie. The midwife let him turn the Doppler on and he grinned when he heard the baby's heartbeat! Then went back to playing with his truck...

@BadBadBeans you have my full sympathies!!! I just want there to be something in my house that is finished. It's hard because I've moved in and I don't own the place, which is no issue with my other half obviously, but it's having a third party to have to partake in decision making. Hopefully we will be buying the brother out once I'm back working after mat leave but right now it seems like hard work. Although I'm sure it's not an ideal situation for him either to be fair!

So glad we're not the only ones who can't decide on names.
There's currently 3 girls names and 3 boys names. We've got George which I love but DH thinks it's just "alright". James, which DH really likes and I think is just alright! It's also DHs uncles name. And Charlie which we both love but I'm unsure if it's too common. It's also DHs brothers name (we don't see him often)
Girls, we've got Emilia which we both love but not sure if it's a bit long winded for a LO to say/spell. Keira which I love, DH is on the fence and then Isla which we both love but it seems there's about ten Islas in each nursery. Also, it doesn't look the prettiest when written down.
@BadBadBeans I love Leo and Zack!

@ballanj crossed posts there! We live and own a house with my PILs, which is a permanent situation. I can definitely relate to the difficulty of having to refer to more than one person when trying to make decisions! We all get on very well (otherwise we wouldn't have done this) but it is hard to reach agreements with one other person, let alone three! One of my stipulations for moving into this place was that I wouldn't have to do any DIY myself. We did up our first house while I was teaching full-time and it nearly broke me. This has been much better as the house was pretty liveable to begin with, and we can escape to my PIL's end of the house if it gets too much... But I had really hoped that our 'half' of the house would be done by the time the baby is here, and this is looking decreasingly likely to be the case!

I have been valiantly attempting to clutter clear and organise upstairs, but I feel like every time I sort something out, some fresh tidal wave of clutter comes in for an inarguably valid reason (see: woodworking tools going rusty in outbuilding) and erases all my efforts. I am crap at housework anyway, but it's so much harder when there isn't a place for everything. DH also keeps nixing my suggestions for buying storage solutions on the basis that he will make beautiful bespoke shelving, cupboards etc. at a later date when he has time. I totally get what he's saying, and why he doesn't want to buy stuff from IKEA (mostly environmental reasons). And he is a very talented woodworker, he really is. But I hate living in a tip!

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever my DH and I both love George! But DH won't have it because of the royal connection - honestly, how annoying is that?! And Charlie is our son's middle name :) I love all of your girls' names. Couldn't have Keira myself though as DH has an ex of that name! I wouldn't worry too much about the popularity of Isla - it's hard to predict whether or not you'll hav ea few. We thought we'd gone for a fairly unusual name with DS. There are three in his nursery though! Also two Florences in his class at nursery, and I wouldn't have said that was a particularly common name either!
