Checking in 31+6 getting closer now
How’s everyone getting on ?

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 29/01/2019 19:03

We went to our local antenatal class today which to be honest was a bit of a rudimental exercise. They didn't really give us any information that we didn't already know as most of it was common sense... don't put blankets near baby's face etc.
Going to be packing my hospital bag this week. Has anyone got a checklist of what they've packed or any advice on things that are easily forgotten but are needed?
😊

Hi @angelmiracle
I had to give up work at Christmas so I’m very bored 😐 had a very physical Job and I just couldn’t do it any more sadly
I don’t know how anyone is still at work I’m very envious Of you still doing it well done you
I’m ok have high protein in my sample so there going to re test any ideas what it could be infection im told it is not ?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/01/2019 19:57

Yes thinking of you @toastfiend

@jojoevans will probably be retesting to rule our pre-eclampsia, but i don't know what it might be if not that or an infection.

What's the sterile dressing for @Angelmiracle?
Only thing I have extra really is another nightie as I threw up over one last time!! I also have split things down like baby grows etc into multiple bags so the labour bag itself is actually quite light on stuff.

Angelmiracle · 29/01/2019 20:40

Yeah I plan on splitting this stuff into labour bag, baby bag, postnatal bag and then few extras in the car!

@SquirtlesMumAgain with DS midwife on postnatal ward gave me the dressing squares to soak the witch hazel onto and then I placed them directly on my stitches! As opposed to it all being soaked up in a pad plus you can refresh the squares as often as needed. Also good for hemorrhoids!

Just added the plastic bag for dirty clothes to the list @Wineandchoccy had left it out!! I had tens machine for DS and by time I got to delivery suite I couldn't wait to rip it off 🀣 I'm not sure if I'll use it this time didn't feel like it gave pain relief more of a distraction!

BadBadBeans · 29/01/2019 20:46

I'm looking forward to packing my hospital bag this week. It will make it all seem so much more real! I am starting on the baby laundry tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your lists, ladies - very helpful. I had forgotten a couple of things!

I've just had the world's most disappointing bath as the hot water ran out before it was full and I didn't realise. It was just warm enough to be worth getting in, but I wasn't very relaxed! Some good bump wiggling action though, which cheered me up!

@toastfiend I have also been thinking of you and hoping all is well x

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/01/2019 21:05

Ah fair enough @Angelmiracle.
I was lucky in a way last time - DS arrived at 00.30 and we weren't moved to post-natal until 11am because of no beds, and they left me deliberately with the pads on the bed without anything on my stitches for a few hours which definitely helped I think!

It already feels like it's going to be all different this time - new hospital, normal sized baby, likely same day discharge (or at least no reason her size should keep us in).... It's a bit scary and weird. I remember it quite vividly in ways but I don't think they are going to help me much because it is going to be so different on the face of it.

Angelmiracle · 29/01/2019 21:20

@SquirtlesMumAgain yes scary and weird sums it up! With a 6 year gap I know a lot of my memories may not be 100% accurate on bits and pieces which will make it really different.

Plus if they keep telling me baby's still on 50th percentile I can't quite take that in as DS was on the 86th Hmm lol

Wineandchoccy · 29/01/2019 21:22

Ahhh anybody else nesting? I have just emptied a chest of drawers in our bedroom. Listed some jewellery, hats, scarves, gloves and books for free on fb all being collected tomorrow.
I did the same in the airing cupboard yesterday there is going to be nothing left in our house Grin

Angelmiracle · 29/01/2019 21:26

@Wineandchoccy I am dying to get the time to do things like this! Hotpress, larder and DS chest of drawers are really grinding on me atm lol.

OP posts:
Wineandchoccy · 29/01/2019 21:53

@Angelmiracle my DH keeps saying sit down and rest but the 2 hours or do in the evening after dd has gone to bed I’m like a whirlwind at the minute. It’s not helping me sleep any better though

Gronk27 · 29/01/2019 21:57

@winechoccy about 20 bags gone to the charity shop and I’ve even sorted out the β€˜shit’ drawer in the kitchen. We’ve been watching Marie Kondo!

@assumeitwassethingclever what a shame, ours was so good for info and actually she asked us at the beginning what we wanted to talk about-mainly pain relief!

@hermagsjesty same boat, fellow freelancer and all done. Next on my list is washing tiny clothes and buying maternity pads, nipple pads and the like.

Is anyone making Padsicles?!

I’m 34 weeks tomorrow and have my 34 week appointment. Always said after today I’d start packing my hospital bag and I wanted to get the basics ready-next to me cot, clothes, nappies, wipes, etc.

Cooked a huge chilli, bolognese and curry for the freezer.

Bump is very sore today after the acrobatics of last week. Heartburn is back as well as some hip and leg pain. Loving yoga though. Hypnobirthing course this weekend!

I can’t remember who I’m measuring the Next to Me mattress for but just wanted to say it’s gone in the loft and I can’t get to it but got a Chicco replacement arriving any day.

Wineandchoccy · 29/01/2019 22:48

@Gronk27 it’s a good feeling isn’t it I have binned, charity shopped, sold loads my DH keeps saying he best not sit still otherwise I will be getting rid of him Grin

ballanj · 29/01/2019 23:51

@Gronk27 I'd not heard of padsicles until you mentioned them, but now I'm thinking these sound like a really good idea to make in preparation for sore lady parts!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 30/01/2019 08:53

@gronk27 It was a shame really. All they went through was how to change a nappy, how many wet/dirty nappies to expect, how to bath them, how long to expect to be in hospital for and that was pretty much it!

@Wineandchoccy. I'm starting to get ridiculous urges to tidy/clean everything so nesting is definitely on it's way. Our kitchen is now finished and it looks amazing but there's dust everywhere which probably isn't helping. This weekend is going to be spent blitzing the place and getting rid of old crap!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 30/01/2019 09:57

I need to start nesting but I am so tired I haven't got very far yet.
With my mum coming, hopefully DH and I can give all the bathrooms etc a good steam clean and sort. Wish we could afford a cleaner for a bit! Maybe if the MA comes through at a bigger amount, they sent me a letter saying I hadn't paid enough NI to get the full amount based on my employment and self employment. I have now paid the extra nics so hopefully that will make a difference, and it's worth it for my pension anyway.

HidCat · 30/01/2019 10:14

Having a working from home day today, had a really productive first hour but just waiting on a colleague to call now and having to fight the urge to nap lol. Sounds like everyone's getting their last few bits sorted now!

PartridgeJoan · 30/01/2019 11:12

@Gronk27 haha I've also been watching Marie Kondo and have been attacking our drawers of shame!

Even cleaned the fridge door yesterday - our house has never been so clean! Grin

cardboard33 · 30/01/2019 13:20

Am I the only person who has zero desire to do any cleaning, even though I know I definitely should because it will be so much harder in a few months? Genuinely could not care less about cleaning the fridge/kitchen/whatever else although we did rent a carpet cleaner and clean the whole house last weekend.

I haven't overly thought about when to wash the baby clothes either. They're all just in their packaging in a pile. We did get some nappies etc in the last Tesco shop - that was very overwhelming trying to decide what we needed for things like bath time... Not that we even have a bath yet. Definitely feel more comfortable on the more meaningful bigger purchases where there's more to research!

We start NCT tonight so hoping that other people will have got the stuff that we don't have and can compare notes.

Also, am pretty sure the baby has dropped now as I noticed my bump felt/looked lower over the weekend and women who have kids have also said it looks like it has at work. Ive also got a full on waddle walk. Should I be concerned that it's happened at 32 weeks? Surely it can't stay like that for another 8-10 weeks? I expected it to happen around 36 weeks although I guess it's not an exact science! I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow so will ask then, just intrigued.
