Welcome @YummyMummy2019 πŸ‘‹πŸΌπŸ‘‹πŸΌ nice to have another Surrey mummy joining me and @Harley8888 πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. This is my first baby? It's a boy and I'm nearly 34 weeks. I live in Horley and I'll be having baby in East Surrey's birthing unit (all going to plan!)

ballanj · 27/01/2019 09:51

@Angelmiracle I've recently been out on ferrous fumarate to get my iron levels up to a level the midwife feels better seeing. Can we talk side effects...?! Without sounding too gross, it's mainly the bowel movements I'm noticing it. I've been prescribed 210mg twice a day and at the moment I've only been taking one a day as the side effects as is are bad enough with just that one tablet. I'm still taking pregnacare aswell because the iron dose in them is so low it's no wonder I'm not getting enough really. Also, do you find it hard actually knowing when best to take them? The leaflet tells you that you should avoid taking with tea, milk and something else (I can't remember) as it can affect the absorption. So I'm finding it hard actually knowing when best to take as I tend to have milk for breakfast in cereal and I'm a tea drinker. I guess taking the complete dose is better than just trying to fit one in around my food choices.

ballanj · 27/01/2019 09:57

@Daisy2990 sorry you're having house stress right before you're due. I feel your pain. My OH's brother who we live with has now decided 6 weeks before I'm due to drop to say he's not happy with the living situation but also has unrealistic expectations about what me and OH actually need to do in order to take on a mortgage together when I'm going to have a massive drop in salary. It's made for a really uncomfortable living situation and now me and OH are taking some advice as to whether we can take on the mortgage together. It's been a very tense week at home and we are both incredibly angry when there's been ample opportunity since last year to sort this before now. Stress we don't need.

Marmite2018 · 27/01/2019 09:58

@ballanj I was also prescribed ferrous fumarate but even after a couple of days I couldn't cope with the side effects. I have started taking spatone instead. I haven't had my bloods taken but in myself I am already feeling much better!!

WhatALearningCurve · 27/01/2019 10:15

@ballanj I had the same side effects on 2 a day. I don't drink tea / coffee anyway but for ease (and because it said to take them on an empty stomach) I just took them both in a morning when I woke up. It meant I remembered to take them as well as otherwise I'd just forget

ballanj · 27/01/2019 10:18

@WhatALearningCurve hadn't thought of taking the two doses together. I might try taking one first thing and one last thing at night in that case!

ballanj · 27/01/2019 10:20

Thanks @Marmite2018 I'll see how I go over the next couple of weeks and if it gets too much I'll ask for something else. I really want to persevere though to ease the lethargy which I'm pretty certain is lack of iron.

VillageFete · 27/01/2019 11:08

I’ve dipped out again, life has been so busy!! Hope I haven’t missed too much? I haven’t caught up on the thread.

@toastfiend Oh best of luck lovely, thinking of you. Keep us updated.

I’m 31+3 and I keep getting period pains.... is this normal? They were pretty strong last night and have kicked off again in the last ten minutes, but not strong, just uncomfortable. I have had them on and off for about 5 days, nothing major, just uncomfortable. I didn’t have them with my first pregnancy. Can this be normal? Just stretching/pulling etc?

YummyMummy2019 · 27/01/2019 11:28

@ballanj @Harley8888 oh fab. We're hoping for a home birth all going to plan as it's the second! Will be fab having other people around on maternity leave Smile

YummyMummy2019 · 27/01/2019 11:30

@ballanj just saw your thread on iron, I was also super lethargic and exhausted and started taking two spatone an hour before breakfast in a glass of orange juice and OMG I'm like a new woman!

cardboard33 · 27/01/2019 11:34

@daisy2990 so frustrating!! I really can't imagine how stressful that must be - we were lucky when we were ftbs as the house was probate and then when we sold it last summer we were so ambivalent about selling yet ended up selling to the 1st people who walked through the door and the whole thing was completed within 7 weeks despite there being 5 families in the chain... which also was very stressful, just in a completely different way. Have your EAs been good at chasing it and putting pressure on them to complete? That's what you're paying them for, ultimately! What's holding them up now?

@ballanj no!! what awful timing!! is this as a consequence of your talk with him about the works that need to be done before baby comes? or something he's been thinking about but not saying for ages?

Hope you're ok @toastfiend.... kinda makes you realise how close we are now when things like this happen!! as others have said, you and baby should be fine if you're over 35 weeks now.

@squirtlesmumagain sorry you've also been in and out of hospital. Can I ask if the CT scan risk relating to breast cancer is specifically because you're pregnant, or just generally? I've had loads of MRIs and CTs (mostly MRIs, but they're on hold whilst I'm pregnant, pending a shove into the scanner literally as soon as baby is out) and whilst I'm obviously aware that there are risks, the risk is quite minimal and the benefits outweigh any risk. A 3% increase isn't a lot when 50% of people will get some kind of cancer anyway in their life, and as you've said breast feeding will negate that stat.

@villagefete I had something similar earlier last week - was also week 31 for me. I don't usually get period pain, but when I have had them it felt like that (but stronger) combined with baby being even more crazily active resulting in 2-3 hours sleep per night. I ended up phoning the hospital (as decided I didn't want to kill my baby due to being too stubborn) but they were quite dismissive and said that it was normal and that I shouldn't worry about either aspects, only if the movements stopped. They've now stopped and baby has returned to a more regular (constant) movement routine. Hows things with your friend's sons family? Have you sorted out the school run issues yet? :)

BadBadBeans · 27/01/2019 12:35

@ballanj I am taking ferrous enumerate and actually have been surprised at the lack of constipation. I do have a very vegetable heavy diet - but I did last time too and they made me constipated then. Not sure what has changed! I am taking one with orange juice before breakfast - but I have coconut milk on my cereal and I don't drink tea. Then i take the other last thing at night. Best of luck with the house situation - that sounds stressful. Hopefully will culminate in an outcome that suits you better ultimately though.

@VillageFete I'm 32+4 and have been getting mild but uncomfortable period pains in the evening for a few days now. Not sure if this is something to do with the Braxton hicks that I think I am having.

@toastfiend Thinking of you. Hope all is going well!

Wineandchoccy · 27/01/2019 13:35

@ballanj I take both doses before bed

VillageFete · 27/01/2019 13:36

@cardboard33 I’m still on school run duty. I can’t help but panic a bit now, i’m almost 32 weeks and very uncomfortable. Unfortunately my friend’s partner has no acccess to a car for a few more months, but once baby is here what can I do? Especially as i’m delivering him via C section.

@BadBadBeans I didn’t get so much of a hint of a Braxton hicks or any period pain with my DD so this is all new territory. She was 2 weeks overdue in the end and I had to be induced. I feel very full and uncomfortable all the time in this pregnancy. I wonder if I just carry boys differently? Good to know i’m not alone with the period type pain. Hoping it’s all quite normal.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 27/01/2019 16:20

@cardboard33 it's because of being pregnant and the breast tissue getting ready for making milk, which makes it more suspectible to the radiation is what the doctor said.
As you say, not a massive increase but just one of those to avoid where possible, but it really wasn't worth the worry over the weekend.

My mum is coming to stay for a few days to let me rest which is lovely, and a very kind suggestion. I am going to make the most of it

Angelmiracle · 27/01/2019 17:46

@ballanj yes I was trying to figure out when best to take it. Eggs is the other not to take it with!! I took it with dinner as it's usually protein carbs and veg- my directions are to take 'with or just after food' strangely and it's 305mg 1 per day. Just not feeling the benefits after 2 weeks and my levels were only just past borderline.

I took spatone throughout my 1st pregnancy and still became anaemic. The midwife laughed I had wasted my money!! There's only 5mg of available iron in one sachet. 200mg ferrous fumarate has 65mg iron.

Good to hear from you @VillageFete hopefully the dad will make alternative arrangements for his son soon. I have no experience of cramping at this stage either.

That's lovely of your mum @Squirtlesmumagain

OP posts:
cardboard33 · 27/01/2019 20:18

@villagefete in many ways, whilst it's a difficult situation, the fact you know you're having a C section may be your get out card for telling the dad he needs to make alternative arrangements without feeling too bad about it because it's not like you have a choice in the matter.... could he return the favour and get your daughter a pick up with his son, given you won't be able to drive?

@squirtlesmumagain ah, ok, makes sense as they also decided it wasn't worth me having any MRIs whilst I was pregnant because I'd need to have it without the dye drip which would make it a pointless exercise. I assume the potential outcomes of not having the CT scan would have outweighed the minimal risk of you having it. Good that your mum is coming to stay - def make the most of it. Will she be able to look after your other one too?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 27/01/2019 20:51

@cardboard33 yep for me personally knowing there wasn't a clot (or if there was if that was the case) vastly outweighed that risk.
Mum will help with DS and she will make me rest! She will help with cooking and will probably have a clean and things while she is at it, which is just something I don't need to worry about which is what I need at the moment.
Lungs are still being cagey tonight - not helpful or reassuring!

Wineandchoccy · 27/01/2019 21:14

@SquirtlesMumAgain I’m glad your Mum is coming to help please rest you sound like you need it.

I have had a lovely day of doing nothing, DH took dd to a trampoline place so I went to a cafe and had tea and cake and read the Sunday papers and a stroll around Tesco without a 3 year old or a 39 year old moaning or putting rubbish in the trolley Grin then dh cooked a curry for tea, perfect I wish every Sunday was like it

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 28/01/2019 08:30

I woke up this morning 3 hours before I needed to and couldn't get back to sleep. I'm hoping this isn't the start of the third trimester insomnia!
We've got the morning off tomorrow to go to a local nhs antenatal class. Has anyone else been to one? Are they any good?

Hopefully our kitchen should be finished tomorrow. Fingers crossed! I can't wait to eat in my own home again!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 28/01/2019 08:39

@wineandchoccy sounds perfect! Whilst I would have liked to spend my Saturday in London as planned rather than the hospital, I do have to say I did enjoy the peace and quiet!!!

@assumeitwassomethingclever hope the insomnia hasn't hit. Haven't slept properly here for ages and the new bed isn't helping! Make sure you just rest whenever you can!

Miami81 · 28/01/2019 08:56

Hi girls.
Can one of you point me in the direction of whoever is admin of the Facebook group? I'm afraid I have completely lost track.

Gronk27 · 28/01/2019 09:36

@assumeitwassethingclever our NHS class was brilliant. I don’t suppose they’re always consistent though. Fingers crossed!

My sleep has been awful since trimester 2. You do get used to it though-bit sure if that’s good or bad!

@miami81 I think it’s @murphyrocks

Murphyrocks · 28/01/2019 10:56

@miami81 yes I'm admin on the facebook group - please do send me a direct message and I can get you on!
