@babyp160 - Haha! I'm warm right now and they're still painful lol. X

Leafy2018 · 18/01/2019 20:13

@powkin thanks for that. Why do they think baby will be here soonish? Do you know what your ferritin level was prior to the Ferinject? I had another phone call from the midwife (in the cereal aisle in Tesco talking about constipation was interesting!) and they want to check ferritin and haemoglobin at my 38 week check (and sweep) next Friday. Think they must be wondering why I haven't accepted it. I had a bad reaction to a drug in the past and ended up with no immune system so basically didn't fight the pneumonia that took hold so I'm really twitchy about it. I would be fine with the needle element though - I have no thyroid so have blood tests regularly. Did you feel normal throughout other than feeling unsettled by that part? Sorry for the twenty questions. It will be interesting to hear how you feel in a week!

Leafy2018 · 18/01/2019 20:15

Also - I'm on ferrous fumerate - the liquid (VILE) - have built up to 4ml a day which seems very little but I had awful constipation on the ferrous sulphate so being careful. It's making little difference to my ferritin though - in fact it's gone from 10 to 8 to 5. 🤦🏻‍♀️

powkin · 18/01/2019 20:44

@Leafy2018 - I’m not sure about my ferritin - I’ve looked at my notes but can’t see it on the bloods they did at the hospital. Does it have a weird abbreviation or anything?

I felt maybe a little flushed but that’s it, it was much more just my unease with the whole thing.

Re: the baby I had some cramping on Tuesday so went in for monitoring and they confirmed i was having contractions (I’m 35w today) but cervix was sealed as tight as a nuns undies thank goodness; they suggested the contractions might mean she’s preparing to come a little early, but it was nothing definite, more a “we’ll see” situation!

powkin · 18/01/2019 20:56

Someone my husband went to uni with just gave birth and used our name! Spelled with a y rather than an i but still annoying! They aren’t super close but will be a bit weird using what is ostensibly the same name!

AvoidingMarking · 18/01/2019 21:19

@Yakadee not sore but I leant over after my shower earlier to get my hair dryer. Felt wet drip on my foot- my boobs had leaked!Shock

Surprisedmom · 18/01/2019 21:21

@Leafy2018 I also disagreed with the fumerate and took the liquid iron instead but my levels dropped as it’s simply not enough. Go to your doctor and ask for ferrous glucomate. Only the doctors can prescribe it (not midwives) and it’s much less likely to upset your stomach. I took 1 a day until I was used to it and essentially alternate between 1 and 2 a day. Basically ferrous fumerate is known to upset stomachs (you can’t be prescribed it if you have stomach issues already) but it’s cheaper so it’s what they offer everyone first.

@Leonora94 I had hemorrhoids about a month back and had some aloe Vera gel around so used that, it helped no end. If they’re really bad definitely go medicated but aloe Vera helps if you have any in the house.

lanalawr · 18/01/2019 21:38

@Lookingforadvice123 is that true of any dates or is it just the posh medjool ones? I've bought pineapple and raspberry leaf tea in my shop tonight. I don't think they'll do anything but shouldn't do any harm now that I'm term and it makes me feel less like I'm just waiting (which is still what I'm doing really).

@Leafy2018 I didn't realise ferrous fumerate also came in a liquid. I was prescribed the tablets. The first poo after dd I found to be fine (I'd been dreading it) but not looking forward to being on iron at the same time. Does anyone know how long it takes to get back to normal once you stop taking iron tablets?

@powkin if you still like the name and aren't too close to them just go for it! You could always make a joke about good taste in names to them if you're feeling awkward about it.

powkin · 18/01/2019 22:15

My boobs don’t appear to be anything, my DH actually thinks they look smaller! I’m only 35 weeks though.

I feel like I have a bit of an AIBU thread but would not want to open myself up to the scrutiny! I’ve arranged a sort of last hurrah get together with a group of friends, not a baby shower just a nice table at a cool new place for mocktails, cocktails, some nibbles. I was amazed I could book a table for 10, but now two of my friends have randomly told me they might be bringing one of their kids, so two extra places that I have no idea if the place can accommodate. Was hoping for a bit of a grown up afternoon (I swear like a trooper!) so feel a bit peeved that neither actually asked. I’m sure I would have said yes but it’s the not asking and then assuming it’ll be fine on the day when I’ve actually put a lot of effort into finding somewhere and organising it!

Anyway, rant over. I’m sure I’ll be on the other side soon complaining about friends who don’t want me to bring my baby along!

AliceRR · 18/01/2019 22:33

@powkim It’s funny you say all that as I had a mini baby shower type rant but didn’t want to post more generally for the same reason! A friend of mine at work has been offering to throw a shower since I told her I’m preg. I wasn’t sure about a shower and she’s quite unreliable so I’ve said no all along but last week her and a more reliable friend said they will set up an afternoon tea or something which I thought is fine. But now the reliable one seems to have left it all to her and she’s just announced on the group chat (which I’m a member of but not saying anything so it’s awkward) that’s shes booked the afternoon tea and confirmed the time etc and has paid the deposit. But hasn’t properly checked that everyone is ok with time, location or even mentioned cost! Another friend of mine messaged me about it to say she doesn’t mind but that it’s a bit odd! I feel bad being critical but I feel a bit uneasy about it all.

AliceRR · 18/01/2019 22:34

@powkin, even!

Surprisedmom · 18/01/2019 22:44

@powkin I don’t think you’re being unreasonable, I wouldn’t presume a cocktails & mocktails event would be the kind of thing you bring children to and would at least ask. If my friends were nursing I would have presumed the babies were coming with them, but it sounds like if two extra seats are needed that these are older children so I am a bit nonplussed as to why they didn’t check if it was a child-friendly event.

lanalawr · 19/01/2019 04:23

Those of you with toddlers coming into your bed in the middle of the night - what are you doing about it (if anything)?

AvoidingMarking · 19/01/2019 07:40

@lanalawr we got a gro clock and are really pushing the don't come in till the sun comes up on it.

We get out of bed and count how many stars are left on the clock countdown and say it's not time yet. It took a few nights of getting up and putting her back, which sucked as it's much easier to let her in and go back to sleep (when she's not being ridiculously wriggly) but we figured we had to crack it now as the bed isn't big enough for 4 and I didn't want her coming in and crawling on the baby if I'm feeding.

1stTimeTina · 19/01/2019 07:46

My friend is throwing me a baby shower today which is super sweet and I said she can throw it at my house for ease. When I have guests I like the place to be spotless so usually a deep clean the day before or morning of will do the trick but my god I move at the pace of a snail right now. Took me two hours to clean what was already a clean kitchen yesterday!! Can't justify paying a cleaner when I'm about to go on maternity leave (stat min only 😭) how are you all handling your homes? I feel like I'm always cleaning but never getting anywhere

Yakadee · 19/01/2019 08:10

@1stTimeTina - I'm not sure our levels of clean are the same lol. My home is clean but certainly lived in (hard for it to not be with a nearly 3 year old).

Like you though, if people are coming I like to have a good old clean. I've been roping my husband in a lot more really x

Since2016 · 19/01/2019 08:36

We have a cleaner 😳 I couldn’t cope otherwise it would send me mental. We also have a dog (pug) who sheds like a MF so lots of hair etc...

I’m having a sort of non baby shower baby shower today at my mums. Totally last min tho so family only as no one else can make it really. I felt a little silly but my mum wanted to do something (my SIL is having a total OTT one for her 3rd which I’m a bit 🙄 about).

Re toddlers - sigh. Back in with us again this am at 4am although we’ve had two good nights. I’m sort of leaving it to DH. She goes to him. She does go back to sleep and we have a huge bed so just rolling with it.

hayley013 · 19/01/2019 09:26

@lanalawr don't do what I did and eat a whole pineapple and burn all your taste buds off your tongue, it's sore 😂😂

Also my dd is coming in through the night, she's 4, had stopped it ages ago, so not sure what's going on, but I just take her back to bed, she moans but goes luckily, if it's after 5 I tend to let her stay for some cuddles.

@1stTimeTina re cleaning, I try to do any jobs as early in the day as I can, then I can rest or nap for half an hour once done. I have the most energy from morning, then just get more tired up till around 4pm when I can't do anymore tasks other than tend to dd.

Since2016 · 19/01/2019 10:03

Oh and you’ll find your standards slip quite happily 😂

Yakadee · 19/01/2019 10:10

Been at maternity assessment this morning. Decided I wasn't happy with baby's movements so went in. Thankfully everything is fine, not sure if I'm just paranoid because it's the last slog.

10 days to section!!! X

welshweasel · 19/01/2019 10:15

Glad all ok @yakadee. I’m in the assessment unit at the moment - had my first lot of steroids yesterday and had to come back for the second this morning. Not had them yet as feeling rubbish. Movements crap and my blood pressure has gone up so currently on the monitor and waiting for blood results. Got too much to do to be stuck here!

Yakadee · 19/01/2019 10:16

@welshweasel - oh no, hope everything is fine and you're on your way soon x

powkin · 19/01/2019 10:26

@welshweasel hope all is ok xxx

In more lighthearted news, I experienced indignity #9523 of this pregnancy. Please see exhibit A attached: a pair of split short. As you can probably tell they were about 1000 years old already but still, to bend over and rip them open was still yet another blow to my dignity. DH laughed a lot when he came down for breakfast and I showed him the damage!

Shorts may look enormous as I’ve stretched them over the clothes thingy to demonstrate the tear 😂

Due February 2019: here come the babies!
Yakadee · 19/01/2019 10:46

@powkin - oh no!!! 🤦‍♀️ lol x

maxiflump1 · 19/01/2019 14:18

@welshweasel hope all is ok.

For those of you with toddlers I second the gro clock. We've used ours since DS was 2.5 and he doesn't get out of bed until the sun gets up. Set it at 7.15 this morning Smile

Having a bit of a panic today as the perfect house has just come up in my parents village where I grew up so we've just instructed estate agents to sell ours: 2 weeks before my section!! Dreading having viewings with a newborn post section but just can't let this one go!!
