Showjumping thank you 😊. From my recent adventures down a Google rabbit hole, it seems that most stuff about gender symptom-spotting is nonsense, apart from:

• some studies show that more morning sickness = more likely to be a girl; and

• more cortisol pre-conception (i.e. from stress) also = more likely to be a girl.

But both of those are heavily caveated as needing more research. On the second one, I recall reading about similar observantins in China - in a population where there had been widespread stress from a famine they got more girls for a while. Girls are are basically tougher! 💪

Belmo my parents didn't have a name for my sister and they named her after one of the specialist nurses who helped with the very tricky delivery. It's one of those older names that is now very cool again.

ratherbeshowjumping · 02/11/2018 10:37

Ah thank you @StargazyDrifter - how interesting! I was actually really stressed around the time of conception so maybe there is some science behind my irrational thoughts!

TwittleBee · 02/11/2018 10:39

Ah yeah I recall reading about the stress thing being more likely to produce a girl too actually! They reckon it is natures way of ensuring the species will be able to continue post the stressful period as more girls will later mean more women to bear children.

ratherbeshowjumping · 02/11/2018 10:41

@TwittleBee logical 🤣 that's really interesting.

itsallgreek · 02/11/2018 10:53

I think i'm growing a girl, DP has a feeling it's a boy... I don't really listen to him much though, i was sure i was pregnant 2 days after DTD i get ovualtion pain and i just knew. He kept telling me don't be so silly there's no way you can know after 2 days. I was so sure that i POTS when i was only 12 hours late....

Just proves that he shouldn't soubt me i know everything hahahaha Grin. all joking aside i'd love a girl as DP has a boy and i see how he is with his nieces, he'd be infatuated and i can buy pink clothes yay all round everyone wins.

On the symptons side i've now woken up but am not feeling my best to tell you the truth and this week feels like its dragging on, jesus whens tuesday gonna get here so i can go for my scan.

TwinkleDay · 02/11/2018 12:32

Hello, I had my appointment with the GP this morning which was a bit of a waste of time. Was in there for 5 mins, didn’t know much about the hospitals in my area and gave me a number to make a phonecall to book in my 1st midwife appointment at 10 weeks. Lucky I’m on holiday from work that day so roll on 30th.

amanda2809 · 02/11/2018 12:45

@TwinkleDay yes I think in most places now you can just self refer to the midwife. I did, but they only do appointments one day a week. In the two week window when I should have the booking in appt (8-10 weeks) it's the board meeting at work (I have to be in the office) and then the following week I'm going to Derby for a meeting with our Chairman! Again no escaping! So I've gone with the first one and will either pull a sickie or just tell my boss I'll be late in because of an appointment for my son.

Laburna · 02/11/2018 12:48

I've got a really sore waist today, just at the front though 🤷🏻‍♀️ pregnancy is so strange!

I had an equally pointless GP appointment with my first @twinkleday. Had just joined the practice, and they made me have a 'check-in' with the Dr to get referred to the MW, it basically lasted 3 minutes, so pointless and then I still had to fill in a form at reception!

StargazyDrifter · 02/11/2018 12:59

So the plot thickens, I have to go back to EPU for a re-scan today because hCg is at a strong 5-6w level and progesterone is third trimester level (!). I suspect they'll be worried about a molar pregnancy but didn't say anything on the phone. Or twins?! But we couldn't see anything yesterday.

itsallgreek · 02/11/2018 13:09

@StargazyDrifter i hope everything goes ok, i'm sure they'll find the reason and it will all be worked out soon.... let us know when you can.. fingers and toes crossed for you

ratherbeshowjumping · 02/11/2018 13:17

Thinking of you @StargazyDrifter x

pancakes22 · 02/11/2018 13:41

@StargazyDrifter thinking of you. Must be a worry not knowing what's going on. I hope you get some answers and in the meantime we all have our fingers crossed for you x

Belmo · 02/11/2018 13:53

@StargazerDrifty good luck, I really hope everything’s okay.

TwittleBee · 02/11/2018 14:12

Thought and wishes are with you StargazyDrifter

I'm freaking out a bit, started having really bad pains on one side. Proper sharp pains.

I'm also an emotional wreck, keep happy crying at everything

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 02/11/2018 14:53

Good luck @StargazyDrifter x

StargazyDrifter · 02/11/2018 15:15

Thank you ladies. You can all uncross your fingers, we found the shy little soul today, in the right place and at the right size. Dated c.4w3d. PHEW!!! Just the one, too... 🙈

TwittleBee they said it's completely fine to have pain on the side you ovulated, that's the cyst that sustains the pregnancy early on and sometimes it can bleed into itself, which is normal, but more painful. One sided pain without bleeding or other symptoms is fine so try not to worry.

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 02/11/2018 15:20

@StargazyDrifter that's brilliant!! Congratulations xx

Frazzlerock · 02/11/2018 15:35

Frazzlerock · 02/11/2018 15:37

and incredible they could see your little one at such an early stage! The sonographer must have good eyes, I imagine it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!

TwittleBee · 02/11/2018 15:51

Oh what a massive relief for you and amazing you could see your little bean so early on too StargazyDrifter also thank you for the reassurance too x
