You poor things, thankfully I haven’t had much of that yet.

Just went to the doctors to fill out the midwife referral form and it was horrendous. The receptionist was basically shouting “where’s the midwife forms??” “So we’ll book your first appointment with the MIDWIFE now and then The MIDWIFE will arrange the rest” “oh your LAST PERIOD was ... so you’re 4 WEEKS...” etc etc. I was so thankful the place was pretty quiet and I had scanned to see if I knew anyone first!!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

SnailorSwift · 08/11/2018 18:09

@HSapr god that's so poor on part of the receptionist 🤦🏼‍♀️ no thought!

cathyj87 · 08/11/2018 18:10

I'm on the carb wagon too - got a super healthy dinner planned of mackerel, avocado salsa and sweet potato chips but just ran in through the door with my freshly bought loaf of bread. Toast with cheese get in me! With my second cup of tea to cherish, I miss tea already!

Laburna · 08/11/2018 18:21

Me too @snailorswift I'm so hungry too!

Onestep2 · 08/11/2018 18:21

@cathyj87 cannot beat toast and cheese. To be fair I love anything with cheese on it. Cheese goes with anything!! ANYTHING

Also a tea worshiperer 🙄 have you moved to decaf? I don't think I can survive for another 8 months on 2 cups of tea.

Twistering · 08/11/2018 18:24

@Laburna @Frazzlerock how did you get the progesterone. I really think that’s what I need but I when I mentioned at miscarriage clinic was dismissed! Offered early scans and that’s it. Feeling v pessimistic today, should probably stop bringing the vibe down!

cathyj87 · 08/11/2018 18:27

@onestep2 I haven't switched to decaf yet, so far I have 1 proper cup in the morning and then another late afternoon. Have bought Red Bush for in between and it's not bad but not "proper" tea. I've found a decaf I like the taste of but from what I know they strip the caffeine chemically which I don't like the idea of much. I'll keep it for days when I'm gagging for more normal tea but will try to avoid it I think. Just a personal choice!

Twistering · 08/11/2018 18:32

Same here with two cups of tea, same timings! I’d be going doubly wappy without a cuppa!

Laburna · 08/11/2018 18:33

@twistering it's a controversial one from what I've read. Consultants offer it usually, and have done in the past, bit the latest research suggests that it has no effect, that low progesterone is actually a symptom of a m/c and not a cause so a lot of places have stopped offering it. It might be worth asking what they suggest, whether they prescribe it at all and under what circumstances.

Onestep2 · 08/11/2018 18:33

@cathyj87 I haven't switched yet either. Have managed to cut down to two cups of tea in work but my wee tea buddies have been questioning my lack of cuppas! Have a wee tea crew (basically allows us to go skieve at the tea point making tea and gossiping in work) usually have at least one cup of tea an hour in work so they have already picked up on it but haven't twigged why!

What is the red bush tea?

Is anyone else constantly thirsty?

Laburna · 08/11/2018 18:33

Don't forget chocolate has caffeine in it....

TwittleBee · 08/11/2018 18:35

HSapr I am so shocked by that receptionists behaviour. Seems to be a common thing on this thread though!

Onestep2 I'm the same with the cheese! I love cheese anyway but I'm like obsessed even more now haha

TwittleBee · 08/11/2018 18:36

Oh and yes so constantly thirsty!!!

cathyj87 · 08/11/2018 18:42

@onestep2 it's a naturally caffeine free tea, I think it's a roobios? Tetley is my normal tea brand and they do one so it's the one I went for! It's almost a bit fruity, says you can have it with milk or without but only tried without so far. I think my work buds are wondering what's up with me this week too: less tea, keep saying I feel dodgy (Not bokey just generally blurgh feeling) and had to leave and go for a walk a few times to get air and coz I was getting upset!

Onestep2 · 08/11/2018 18:48

@cathyj87 work friends are a different breed of friends. They know everything hahaha In my wee office in work im the only girl though so they guys won't suspect a thing. I could shave my head in there and they wouldn't realise something was different!

@twittlebee ohh I hear ya. Cheese is the best. Any dish can always be improved with a wee bit of cheese hahaha do you do that thing when your cutting cheese you need to cut more than you need coz you need some extra to eat while waiting?

TwittleBee · 08/11/2018 18:52

Hahaha yes I do that Onestep2 and I always do way more than I probably need because I'm scared there won't be enough. It all gets eaten anyway of course too!

Actually just cutting cheese out of my diet was how I lost my baby weight from DS so quickly haha

StargazyDrifter · 08/11/2018 18:56

HSapr similar happened to me at the GP last week. Reception managed to keep it together and be discrete when handing me the form. But when I went to hand back the completed one the receptionist went into great detail about my choice of hospital and ALL the things they offer for birth and how someone or your had just given birth there and it was fabulous and I will love it. I just stood there hoping no one we know will
hear and wanting to disappear given how soon it is and all the previous losses. Just as I turned to leave, the chatty receptionist handed me a massive pack from something called Emma's Diary with nappies and things in it. It's got a massive baby on the packaging. I tried to give it back on the basis it's way too soon, but she insisted. So I walked all the way home with that thing and no plastic bag or anything to cover it with. 🤦‍♀️

My other bugbear is my local EPU. There is a nurse there who always says 'is it your first baby then, excited?' when she takes blood. I get that it's meant to put people at ease but my multiple visits there have mostly been for a worrisome reason, like MMC, ectopic and more recently worries about a second ectopic last week (all fine). It's quite hard to cheerfully nod through that when you're imagining/have been told bad things. I've been meaning to drop a note into their suggestions box with a more neutral ice-breaker suggestion but then I always think people there have more important stuff to worry about.

HchyScott · 08/11/2018 18:56

I’m lucky and unlucky in that in the last 5 years I’ve worked out caffeine, espeicallly in coffee and Pepsi Max gives me terrible acne so I haven’t had any in over a year. Even decaf set it off really badly. Never and will never give up chocolate though. I think I’d fall apart hahaha!

TwinkleDay · 08/11/2018 19:03

So I am really going at the cheese as well since I’ve found out I’m expecting and also carbs ... brown/ granary bread and can’t go wrong with a jacket potato with beans. Gone off sugary stuff too which is really odd for me.

In other news the best present of all turned up today. We were looking for a new mattress before and ordered a really fancy one with 3000 pocket springs and a lush thick memory foam latex topper which is pleated Grin and new memory foam pillows too! I can’t sleep on my sides only front or back so hoping this expensive purchase should help in months to come!

Onestep2 · 08/11/2018 19:04

@Hchyscott I'm the same I managed to cut out fizzy juice completely a while ago and I pretty much live on diluting juice these days! (And tea) I can function in morning without a cup of tea!

Laburna · 08/11/2018 19:19

@stargazydrifyer with myast pregnancy I was at the EPU every day for monitoring because DS was so small and had reduced movements. One MW kept repeatedly saying whenever I turned up and she was on day ward duty, 'wow, haven't you got a small bump' and other random stuff about how lucky I was to still be small etc. DH had to walk away once because he got so angry with her. She had my notes, it clearly said DS wasn't growing and why we were there and still she would comment!

Although that's nothing compared to the health assistant who turned up to bring a pump after I'd given birth who told me flat out, they would take him away to special care if I couldn't get him to latch. (DS was born with a head smaller than my boob) that lady got a good many complaints!

Laburna · 08/11/2018 19:21

@pancakes22 check out Kristina Kuzmic she's got some scarily hilariously accurate videos!

Twistering · 08/11/2018 19:39

Thanks @Laburna - my Consultant is hardcore/no messing so probably one of the skeptics! Got appt on Wed with her so will see but sort of thing feels like need from start.

@TwinkleDay - nothing beats a good mattress! Mmmmmm

StargazyDrifter · 08/11/2018 19:40

Laburna That's dreadful. It's so thoughtless and insensitive at a delicate time, and yes it's arguably 'no big deal' and as long as we get the excellent care, and yes NHS is under a lot of pressure etc etc, but it's still pretty poor and causes unnecessary distresss. Especially in places like EPU and the maternity wards, the GP receptionists I suppose aren't to know.

I try not to lose my calm with this stuff, and the only time I have was when I tried to give blood again a couple of months after my ERPC for MMC and the nurse said 'well because you chose to have an abortion a couple of months ago, we can't have you giving blood today'. I corrected her politely and left it at that. Cried all the way home. I did also then write to the people who run blood donations overall (can't remember the name, argh!) to suggest they refine their approach a bit. Yes ERPC is the medical term for both an abortion and an op after an unsuccessful but waned pregnancy, but still! They were very nice about it and said they'd take it on board for training. I suppose we might all do this sort of thing unknowingly sometimes, but it'd be nice if there was more care.
