Hello and welcome back PinkLady! I want to find out the sex of this one, but my DP is still undecided. Erk!

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 13:49

RG, I still want to find out the sex. DH doesn't still, I have my scan a week on monday. What the chance of talking him around by then???

choudru · 14/06/2007 14:21

Must admit I am shocked too - I thought beign pregnant would bring out the gentle side of even the most aggresive teenager.

I think I have lived a very sheltered life!

I am definitely finding out the sex. DH is hesitating because his best friend's wife managed to let her DH persuade her not to find out with their baby the other day. Now DH thinks I will agree to wait as well but he's got another think coming.

My reasoning is that I so want a girl that if it's a boy I need a few months to get used to the idea of living in testosterone-city for the rest of my days.

Purplepants - your scan is tomorrow!!! I'm so excited!

Nice to have a few more names on the list by the way. Funny how varied the scan schedule is - some people due on the same dates have scans 2 weeks apart

choudru · 14/06/2007 14:28

Sparkly - have you tried

a) emotional blackmail
b) tantrums
c) reverse psychology
d) all of the above?

Tell him you are carrying his baby for him and this little concession on his part would mean so much to you.

You could also tell him you will do what the hell you like and won't be held responsible if he tries to stop you?

Maybe ignore my advice actually - my tactic is to kind of go ahead and find out even though DH kind of doesn't want to

Bit selfish but I think carrying the baby gives you a little right to be selfish...

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 14:54

lol, I will be having scans every 4 weeks to check the babys weight. So I have lots of times when I could find out

choudru · 14/06/2007 15:35

My feelings EXACTLY loopy. I would hate the birth of this baby to be marred by even a milisecond of disappointment that it wasn't the right sex.

I am almost convinced that I am having another boy so if I find out next week then I will have a few months to enjoy visualising life with 2 sons. There are many advantages if it is a boy since all of the inlaws want boys (they have loads of girls in DH's family), plus DS will have a buddy. Plus no worrying about too much makeup/having a 14 year old pregnant daughter etc etc ;)

But on the other hand, I won't have a daughter

I do hope everyone gets what sex they want and most of all that we all have healthy little babies

choudru · 14/06/2007 16:11

Hi Ara,

Your scan was very early considering your due date. Did you find out the sex?

I am looking very pregnant but am due 3 weeks before you which does make all the difference.

Plus if it's your first you probably still have some stomach muscles to speak of!

littleoldme · 14/06/2007 16:27

Well. Just went swimming and had to helped from the pool by the life-guard. I got huge pain all the way up the sides of my bump and couldn't stand up. Felt like ligament pain but worse. Anyway - after looking like a complete idiot and having to sit by the side of the pool for five mins - I got myself home and rang the hosp.
They said it sounded like ligament pain and to rest.

I don't want to be neurotic but neither do I know what is normal pg grumbles and what is something to worry about.

Ara - hello. I'm due a few days after you and I have a definate bump.As people keeps telling me- everyone is different. Lucky you getting such an early scan.

easywriter · 14/06/2007 16:30

Littleoldme - when up the duff, my advice, err on the side of being thought neurotic. Best to get these things checked out by a professional and be told it's nothing than to think it's nothing and have something awful happen IMHO!

easywriter · 14/06/2007 16:33

Ara! I AM as big as a house. I jest not. I'm tracking my weight (as I did last pregnancy) amd weight 3lbs more than I did at this stage (18+4) with twins!!
My sister, who is always tactful (she even swears I didn't poo when I had the girls, because she knows I was mortified when I found out that most pregnant women do during delivery, even tho' dp has admitted (3 years later) that I did) says She thinks I look bigger too (than I was this stage, last time)

Me? I don't care I'm getting a brand new baby AND my maternity stuff almost fits. AT last

littleoldme · 14/06/2007 16:35

Easy - thanks. I think you're right.

sparklygothkat · 14/06/2007 16:36

Ara was that scan your 13 week scan??

ara · 14/06/2007 17:03

the scan was at 15 weeks and 6 days - apparently we don't get another one unless we pay for it which is a shame! we didn't find out the sex either - we don't get the option but the surprise will be nice anyway!!

littleoldme · 14/06/2007 17:45

That seems quite stingy. Whereabouts do you live?

ara · 14/06/2007 17:46

Edinburgh - it's rotten isn't it! i think there are only 4 areas in Scotland where they only do the 12 week scan (ours was very late) unless there are complications.

tonysmum · 14/06/2007 18:31

Ara, I used to live in Edinburgh and only got a scan at 12 weeks as well with my first pregnancy. Now I live in Central Scotland and I will have my second scan next week. They don't let you know the sex of the baby though, even if you ask, I don't mind too much but it would be nice to have the choice.

ara · 14/06/2007 19:36

hello there - that's exciting, i hope it goes well! i think we will pay for a second one at some point as it was so nice to see the baby at the first scan. plus we will hopefully get a proper look as the first one was quite quick - amazing though- we saw the heart beating and all the little limbs. i don't think we will find out the sex, but i agree that it would be good to have the choice. i think that just depends on where you live actually!

tonysmum · 14/06/2007 19:45

We also paid for a private scan with the first baby at 26 weeks, it was a bit expensive but well worth it, it was so thorough and took so long that I felt dizzy afterwards . I could give you the address if you want.

I'm starting to get a bit of a bump now, but at the moment, i'm still looking like a pie eater instead

I think in the next couple of weeks the bump should start to pop out!

ara · 14/06/2007 22:27

Tonysmum - that would be great thanks - our friends had a 4d one and got a dvd of their baby. it's really incredible how much you can see!
Loopymumsy & RGPargy - I am in that exact stage too..my own trousers are all too tight but i don't really look preggers just yet! I am also on my second set of new bras ---ouch!
