Hello all.

Ara - as another government employee (although central not local) I got a load of stuff saying that they could not prevent you from attending a professional development course you would normally have benefited from on the grounds that you are pregnant. I would ask for written instruction to decline the invitation if I were you, and then you will have grounds to sue for discrimination (and potentially constructive dismissal). I certainly would not let your manager get away with this - it is utterly outrageous and just like everyone else my blood is boiling on your behalf!

In other news - I have a VERY wiggly and active bump too. Its favourite time of day is actually about 1030pm when I am trying to go to sleep and then about 4 am when I want to stay alseep! Oh well, it's all worth it right?

Also (possibly a first baby type of thing) I am suddenly hearing a lot from my MIL - anyone else experience this? It is nice, but a bit wierd as I normally only speak to her if I answer the phone when she calls DH, but she called my mobile last night for a chat!

Jossiejump · 10/07/2007 15:04

Hiya
Just had my 20 week appt-all was fine, low blood pressure, which is why I've been feeling a bit dizzy. They scanned again ( 2 weeks after private one) and also couldn't find any markers for downs either. Have got to have a GTT, as Dad has diabetes, also a growth scan at 28 weeks, to check that it is growing enough (checking that blood flow is ok through the placenta)
I'm loving that I'm having so many scans (at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 13 weeks, 16 weeks, 18 weeks. 20 weeks-they are looking after me, only of these has had to be private.

LizzieO · 10/07/2007 15:33

Hi RGPargy
was noticing on your profile that you are/were/will be again something of a raver - have you every heard of Panik my hubby and his mates used to take the rig to the free parties but alas its been gethering dust in our garge since the birth of DS

silkcushion · 10/07/2007 17:57

Haven't added myself to the list yet.

Do I have to retype it all again? Hmmm it's rubbish being a technophobe particularly when I know there must be an easy way of doing it but I just don't know how.

Has anyone else lost their mind since becoming pregnant?

I don't seem to be able to multi-task anymore and just lose my thread in the middle of conversations. It's becoming a bit of a laughing point amongst my colleagues (esp when I'm running a meeting!)

silkcushion · 10/07/2007 17:59

FCH

My bump is extremely wiggly now too. Was only evenings and nights until about a week ago but now she is going for it during the day. Never in the morning though - must take after her mum!

RGPargy · 10/07/2007 18:24

Hi Lizzie

Hmmmm not sure if i've heard of panic. i have to admit that my headphones have been hung up as far as actually playing in clubs goes and obviously my raving days are on hold for the mo (although my friend said he's going to drag me to one of his gigs when this LO is born - he's a "top-tier" DJ and i used to drive him around alot, but i wont name drop ). Hopefully i'll get out for a swift rave-up some time in the new year!!

[shameless plug alert!!]In the meantime, you can listen to my online shows every Sunday evening and Monday evening - ask me for details! [/end shameless plug]

As for taking it easy after the move, i'm sooooo tired but have to keep trudging through all the bloody boxes coz my DP is off work and i cant be seen to be sitting on my jacksy all day watching Jezza Kyle! I suppose it's fairly common but i didn't sleep that well at all last night. One of the cats starting really mewing and stratching at the floor so i didn't want her to ruin the (crap) floor so in the end i had to let them out for an explore. They were fine after a while and they were even purring and snuggling up on the bed in the end - a very GOOD sign! however, the slightest noise or rustle they were making had me wide awake and trying to remember (yet again) if i'd shut all the windows lol. Cant wait for a lie in tomorrow!

RGPargy · 10/07/2007 18:25

Silkcushion - just copy and paste the list into a new message and then add yourself to it. Easy peasy!!

FCH - Ahh the old MILs eh? I didn't have much of a relationship with my MIL until I got pregnant with DS.

(To cut a long story short she had wanted DH to marry someone else and kind of blamed me for getting in the way!)

When DS was born, she came to stay and brought a billion family members with her (we were living in a 2 bed flat at the time). She did do lots of cooking and cleaning but used to get stroppy if DH spent too much time in our bedroom with me (I was very down at the time dealing with DS's premature birth and post baby hormones etc).

We had a few big arguements in the following months but now we both know how to handle each other. She doesn't try to tell me what to do with my life and I play the dutiful daughter-in-law when we go visit.

We actually get on ok now.

Jossie - fab news! Bet you're well chuffed

AnnainNZ · 10/07/2007 21:17

My MIL is OK but a bit anal, they came to stay in Feb and she and her husband (DH's stepdad) are just the kind of people who find fault with everything. Wouldn't drink tap water (nice NZ water too) so we had to keep boiling water and letting it cool for them to drink. Had DH down in their room at 11.30 cos they were convinced a board on the bed was loose. Had us hunting round the house also at 11.30 for a table because one side of the spare bed doesnt have bedside table so dh's stepdad had nowhere to put his glass of water (PUT IT ON THE EFFING FLOOR! I wanted to shout, but didnt).Wouldnt sit on sofas in case they were bad for their backs. Lots of other stuff. I probably sound very moany but I was 6 wks pg (we hadn't told them yet) and justg couldnt be doing with it!

They normally visit once a year (around Feb) but have told us they won't be visiting next year as "small babies aren't very interesting" (it's their first grandchild). I'm torn between being relieved they're not visiting and annoyed they're describing our child as not interesting!

Had an thrilling night last night as big storm here and power cut form 4pm to 4am. All our cooking and heating is electric so it was sandwiches for tea then under the duvet to stay warm!

littleoldme · 10/07/2007 22:00

Just a quick hello to everyone. Am V sleepy and DH has gone all mardy c'os I made him clear up cat poo rather then letting him leave it till tomorrow when he's less tired.

I love him dearly but he is a tad confusing at times

Saw my bump do a little jump as LO belted me one yesterday .

ara · 11/07/2007 06:15

Aw how lovely littleoldme - DP is desperate to feel our LO move but think you can only feel it on the inside so far!

ANNA! What a couple of pains in the neck! How strange that they won't bother coming for their visit when the baby arrives too...I don't think we'll be able to keep our folks away (good thing....bad thing?!!).

I'm sure they'll be a lot more 'interested' than they think when your baby arrives.

x

choudru · 11/07/2007 08:48

Morning ladies,

littleoldme - how gorgeous! About the bump, not about the sulking DH. Must admit I was so tired yesterday after a full day of running around doing things that when LO kept kicking me when I was trying to relax, I wanted to tell her off and say 'sit still!'.

Poor thing is already getting told off before she's born

Anna - ok, I know I complained about my MIL but the things that bring us together are the fact that we both love the same people - i.e. DH and DS. She dotes on DS and now that he's getting older, he's developing a nice little bond with her. Half the reason I have made such an effort with her is because I want her relationship with DS to flourish. If she said 'he wasn't very interesting', I wouldn't really bother with her!

What an awful thing to think and what an awful thing to say to prospective parents!

Me off to mum's today.

P.S. RG - I can't wait to be in your position, sat in new place!

Bearus and littleoldme - your scans up next this week. Are you excited/nervous?

choudru · 11/07/2007 08:52

Ara - just realised what time you posted. Not only do you have a nightmare commute and @rsewipe bosses, you manage to find time to pop into the thread before you face them!

I hope it sends you off to work feeling a bit more supported.

FCH · 11/07/2007 09:12

Glad to hear I am not the only one getting pummelled - it actually managed to make ripples by kicking when I was in the bath last night - how cool is that? I am definitely in the same camp as Choudru though - I am having the odd moment where I really do just want to tell it to stop. It hasn't even arrived yet - how can I be irritated by my own unborn child? can feel "bad motherdom" creeping up already!

I do have to say that actually MIL is nice enough, and I am certainly not complaining about her, it is just that she has never been that interested before and it is a bit strange! I have a feeling that all sorts of unexpected things are about to start changing!

Anyway - huge respect to the house movers who are not only getting organised but keeping up to date with this thread. I am finding it complicated enough to buy milk!!!!

Mimi13 · 11/07/2007 13:16

Hello all, I haven't been on here for a while due to a house move, but good to read all your comments and experiences again. Getting settled now and loving our new home. Having to re-register with new GP, new midwives and new hospital now, which is a shame as the service in my old borough was really good. Still don't know which London hospital I'll be allocated to, but hope to find out this pm. Despite having emailed the local NCT people as soon as I found out I was pg, I have not been able to get onto any of their local antenatal classes - they sent an email with available dates on the day of my house move when I was without the internet for 4 days. By the time I picked up the message all the classes were fully booked. Has anyone ever heard of Active Birth classes? Think they are my only option now. Had a lovely scan last week so have updated my info to the list below. My LO is getting a lot more active now, too, and I LOVE feeling it! Totally exhausted - where is that burst of energy that was promised for the 2nd trimester?! Other than that no complaints and am so far really enjoying being pg. Started antenatal yoga last week, which seems good. Am beyond worrying about my weight gain now - will just have to do strict diet when LO arrives.

Bearus · 11/07/2007 13:19

Sorry haven't been around much everyone - always on boss alert you see. I have been lurking though and keeping up with the news.

Loads of movement here too and def noticing sleep/wake patterns now. Finally the sicky feeling stopped at 19 weeks - hoorah - but painful/stiff pelvis a lot of the time...boo.

Got our 21 week scan this afternoon at 4pm. Hope all ok - seem to be more worried about these sorts of things this time. We're not going to find out the sex - well, I think not. I have (hopefully)overruled DH...hee..hee

Am shocked at your in-laws, Anna. Mine are ok but are always on about DD's lack of table manners. She's only just turned 3 for F's sake and doesn't throw food or get up but doesn't always eat! I sometimes wonder how DH turned out so normal, but that's another thread.

Good luck with your scan too littleoldme. Are you finding out the flavour?

littleoldme · 11/07/2007 20:11

Good luck to you bearus too. I will be finding out the flavour. Hope everything went ok.

aikigypsy · 11/07/2007 21:47

I have been obnoxious and nosy lately interviewing random passers-by about their strollers (apart from bugaboos, which are well out of my league). Today I stopped to talk to a woman about her snap-n-go, which fits onto the carseat, and she was with a friend who is also due in November. I feel inadequate -- my bump is just so much less bump-like than this woman's was. Mine is still more of a general thickness with just a hint of roundness at the bottom, while this woman, due at nearly the same time as me, looks definitely pregnant.

I guess I am still impatient to get to that definitely-pregnant look.

RGPargy · 11/07/2007 22:44

I'm so jealous of you all who are feeling kicks and wriggles!! I feel hardly any movement at the moment, but i've put it down to the fact that i have far too much padding on my belly for me to notice (or feel) any kicks I know it's moving around because i do feel little bubbles now and then, but i have to say it's not very often. I do notice that my bump moves places, i.e. sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right, sometimes hidden, so i'm guessing all must be ok in there! Still, i have my scan on 26th July so i'm sure i'll see some movement on the screen, even if i still dont feel anything!!

sigh It does sadden me that i dont feel much tho......

Settling in nicely into our new house. Went out and bought shed loads of new stuff today and spent tons of money, but it's all in the name of making the house look and feel like home so i think it can be excused.

DP has started ripping into the baby's room too (the people who lived here before were very "Dave DIY" bodgit merchants) so there's quite a bit to do but at least he's got a good 3 months or so to do it. I've given him a deadline of when i'm 35 weeks to have finished the room by, just in case this LO is early.

Hope you are all doing well and so sorry to hear about your MIL, Anna. Shocking stuff!!

xx

AnnainNZ · 12/07/2007 00:59

Aww, my MIL isn't that bad. Just a bit fussy. And snobby. OK, better stop there! I read a thread on bad MIL's recently and some of them were a zillion times worse than her. To be fair, it is a bloody long way to fly form UK to NZ but they spend 4 monhts a year on holiday (DH's family way richer than mine!) and normally come here, so it's odd the only year they don't is when their first grandchild is here!

I don't think she's v maternal, DH says he doesbn't remember ever having a family holiday or a birthday party when he was growing up. for him!

Pixiefish · 12/07/2007 07:17

Just a quick morning. Am off to Yorkiegirls' today for the weekend but am taking my laptop so shall still be able to log on to say hi

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 07:20

arrghhh!!! I woke up to find that DD2 had snuck into my bed last night and then wet it!! I will now be spending the morning down the launderette Then as I was thinking 'oh no' I had a massive cramp in my calf, and then baby decided to push right up under my ribs....Its only 7am, tell me it will be better

choudru · 12/07/2007 13:09

Oh poor you Sparkly! Lovely way to wake up in the morning!

Me busy packing.

Littleoldme and bearus - how did scans go?

Littleoldme - are you at yoga tonight?

Bearus · 12/07/2007 13:18

Scan went fine thank goodness - everything is in the right place and the whole appointment was made even better by a lovely, enthusiastic sonographer.

We did find out the sex in the end though although weirdly, it was me that instigated it! (after all the digging in of heels as well!) Oh well, it still feels like a small victory!

And we are having.......a boy!

How many of each does that make us now?

Hope all goes well for you littleoldme.
