Lordy @wineandchoccy that must feel incredibly stressful, sorry it wasn't a dream scan and really hope there's a simple or nothing explanation for it. I'm sure it won't give you tonnes of comfort right now but google just threw up a couple of other MN threads on bright bowels at 20 weeks and apparently it's better than 97% not a problem, just hope next Friday gives you the answer you want x

Try and focus on the good chance that this could be nothing, or something that is quite minor. I know it’s easier said than done, pregnancy is such a worry

@Wineandchoccy I’ve read that in many cases a bright bowel is a result of the baby swallowing blood where there has been a small bleed into the amniotic fluid.

@wineandchoccy it's the waiting which is the hardest because unknown until you know what you're dealing with. I'm really sorry, particularly given you have to wait a week to find more info and you're just expected to get on with life in the interim.

Hopefully next week you'll at least have some clarity and can begin to plan when you know what you're dealing with... As you've said it could be nothing of it could be something, but you'll feel better once you know what the something is.

Thinking of you @wineandchoccy - I really hope it is the nothing option for you but I can imagine the wait will be horrible.

@Wineandchoccy I'm sorry the scan wasn't reassuring. I had EXACTLY the same thing with my son at 20 weeks. Bright bowel, referral to consultant. We knew it was unlikely to be a trisomy because we'd had the Harmony test done already. At the consultant appointment my husband and I both got tested for cystic fibrosis, and I got tested for CMV (a common childhood virus that most people have had). We were negative for CF, and it turned out that I didn't have CMV but also that I'd never had it, so I did have to be extra careful around the kids I was teaching. When the consultant scanned me, she said the bowel wasn't bright any more. She told me that because I am quite slim, the standard ultrasound settings in the hospital probably just didn't quite work properly on me. I had a follow-up scan with her two weeks later, and it was nothing. If I remember correctly, the bright bowel could also have been that I'd had a little bleed in the womb and the baby had swallowed some of the blood in the amniotic fluid.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, this really doesn't necessarily mean something is actually wrong. I was in bits after my 20 week scan and actually there wasn't anything wrong at all. I know it's really really hard, but try to put aside any catastrophising and worrying until you've actually seen the consultant. x

@ladycarlotta the "baby smell" could just be the type of washing detergent they use. All the non bio ones have a similar smell.

It seems I'm not very good at being the pregnant woman. I forgot to attend my antenatal appointment last week, to the extent that when I was getting a call from the MW I was wondering why she would be ringing me.
So yesterday I attended the appointment, only to forget a urine sample. Like I shouldn't have that drilled into my head!!
And then it turns out I've been telling everyone the wrong due date. Apparently I'm due on the 3rd, not the 4th! Whoops!

On a plus, some really strong kicks tonight, to the extent that my other half was able to feel them and is over the moon.

@Wineandchoccy sorry to hear about your scan news. As had as it is, try and take it easy this week, don't read to much into anything until you have some firm answers, as this time next week all could be well and the need to worry having surpassed.

Please can I join this lovely group? Pregnant with my first bubba who is due on the 3rd March.
I'm a little anxious as my tummy is still pretty flat and definitely haven't felt bubba move. However, at my 16 week appointment, the midwife found bubba's heartbeat very quickly and said it sounded strong so 🤞🏻 everything is ok.

Hi @rainbownugget28 , I can assure you what you've said sounds completely normal. As a midwife I would generally say you'll normally start feeling movements anything from 16-24 weeks, and we don't worry about patterns or frequency of movements till beyond 26 weeks.

Bumpwise, everyone is very different. My best friend didn't really show she was pregnant till 28/40, you could've been forgiven for thinking she had slight bloating, and then it just spouted out of nowhere

Also, being a first pregnancy as well usually impacts when you first feel movements and how soon you develop a bump. Those lovely abdominal muscles haven't been abused by a prior pregnancy already

Has been good to read everyone's views on gender. I was very much wanting a girl but for some reason I'm convinced it's a boy. OH would love a boy of course but he's convinced it's a girl now. Our 20 week scan is on the 30th. My move date has now come forward as the estate agent has asked if I can vacate my rental a few days sooner due to the new tenant. Means I'll get some of this month's rent money back to add to the baby fund so not a bad thing. Just means OH and me will be quite busy over the next 3 weeks, but not a bad thing as will stop as wishing time away for this 20 week scan. Time seems to be moving quicker between the 12 and 20 week scans than it did between 5/6 weeks pregnant and the 12 week scan.
