@melissa112 the lower ones you can just move, higher ones ask about. I've found them quite good a demonstrating how they fold etc too. Been to some independents too which were also very helpful.

melissa112 · 29/09/2018 11:32

@wordsmithereens that's good that your scan isnt too far away. I know it's hard but I'm sure everything is as it should be. It's such a long wait between 12 and 20 weeks isn't it!

Thanks for the link to the pram. That's an amazing deal. We're having a boy so it's a shame they don't do it in other colours but I'm going to keep my eye on it. Just realised that the shop is actually only 20 minutes from me so I may even pop down and have a look.

@Bluebelltulip thanks, maybe I just didn't look hard enough, it was back when even standing for a few mins made me want to throw up so probably just went in and out! I'll have a good look today.

melissa112 · 29/09/2018 11:33

@TheWanderlust that all sounds good! I think sometimes a gentle push makes all the difference, especially when you've been used to feeling run down and don't really want to go anywhere. Long may you continue to feel better Smile

LittleKitty1985 · 29/09/2018 12:04

Hi all. Just checking in!

Marmite2018 · 29/09/2018 12:24

@TheWanderlust I've bought some nice maternity bits from h and m online, although they are soooo roomy!!! Lots of space in them, makes me realise how big I'm going to get, although I'm not showing a lot at the moment. I also bought a swimming costume that's lovely from boohoo.com as well! I'm all for the online shopping!

orangekitkat13 · 29/09/2018 13:13

@TheWanderlust everywhere round that area is rubbish for maternity clothes ! I've just had to buy online and now have a massive bag of stuff you return which I can't be bothered to do!

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 13:13

@thewanderlust Glad you had such a productive morning! Hopefully it'll be a gradual gain of energy for you now. :)

@Melissa112, they also have it in red (but that's also traditionally bit girlier maybe?) Great if the shop is so close to you though, may be worth it just to see if they don't chain their buggies like mothercare.

NotDoingThat · 29/09/2018 13:58

Hi all πŸ€—

I've finally shaken the fatigue- promptly replaced by the sense that everything is stretching- sides hurt, back hurts, ribs hurts, really hard to get comfy.
Is it going to be like this till the end now? Why does no one tell you how brutal pregnancy is 😫?? Surely this means I'll be feeling some proper kick soon at least!

NotDoingThat · 29/09/2018 13:59

**kicking

Murphyrocks · 29/09/2018 14:09

@notdoingthat how far along are you? For the first few weeks of the second trimester I was in pretty much constant belly and back pain, but it's eased off to only occasional now and my bump has properly popped so thinking it was just everything stretching out into full pregnancy mode?! I'm 18 weeks tomorrow.

Also I've just had my results back from my blood type test that suggest baby is also rhesus negative so they don't recommend having the anti-d jab, but stating there's still a 0.1% chance that baby is positive. Being me that still makes me a touch nervous - anyone know how bad it could be for bub or me if they do turn out to be positive? Am I just being silly given how small the risk is? Is the risk associated with having the anti-D higher? Help!

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 14:26

@Murphyrocks I've forgotten, and too lazy to check, but this is your first pregnancy, yes? If so, as I understand it the risk is quite low. It's only when your blood mixes with baby's that you'd generate antibodies if it's positive. So if you had any bleeding throughout, it may then be good to get the anti D as a precaution. But I think they used to not do anything in first pregnancies at all and only worry during the second (because during labour, blood will often mix.

It's great they're typing baby though, nobody offered me that - I'll just have to be jabbed whether I like it or not! We think DH is 0+ve, so probably a good call though.

Murphyrocks · 29/09/2018 14:40

@wordsmithereens I believe they're only trialling the fetal blood typing in certain areas, of which mine is one. This is my second pregnancy and with ds I just got the anti-d jab at 28 weeks as standard! But as it turns out he's also negative so I didn't need the second anti-d after he was born, so don't think there's any way I could have made the antibodies? And I'm not planning on any more kids (sending dh to get his tubes tied after this one!) so there'll be no subsequent children to be potentially affected by the antibodies if this one does turn out to be positive! Does that sound right?

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 14:57

@murphyrocks (Sorry, just connected who you were after I saw your post on the group, am awful matching the mumsnet/RL names in my head.)

If your first son is also negative that does sound like good news, it basically means your immune system isn't 'primed' to reject a Rh+ positive baby. You're correct - there's no way you would've made antibodies. So that combined with 0.1%, which is statistically a very low risk (if 50% is a coin-toss, 0.1 is 500 times lower) sounds like good odds to me. Not quite sure what the purpose of the second shot after birth is, so that may be worth checking out. But I wouldn't worry too much unless you start bleeding during this pregnancy for some reason, which hopefully won't happen anyway! Can you have a chat through it with the midwife just for reassurance if that helps?

melissa112 · 29/09/2018 14:58

Can somebody please tell me that I'm being irrational and everything is ok? I've just had a shower and when drying my hair I was brushing it at the same time and held the hairdryer by my side. A few seconds later I felt a pain on my lower belly. The hairdryer had been pointing at my belly and I'd obviously gotten it too close and felt a burn

There's no mark or anything and it feels fine now but what if I've burnt the baby, or caused it some damage? My OH has made me cry telling me I'm being stupid which is probably correct but just worrying me now and I'm feeling quite emotional Sad

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 15:04

@melissa112, You may be being emotional rather than rational, but you're not stupid, how helpful and empathetic of your DH. I think it's hard for them to understand the protective urges you get from carrying something in your body like this!

It's core temperature that's the concern, and I don't see how a hairdryer could rapidly increase your core temp to the point of being harmful. And given that the midwives just told me they're only concerned with a fever (which does raise core temp) if it lasts over 24 hours or is very high, I think there's no way you could have hurt bub. Pain was probably totally coincidental and your mind's just connected the two because you're scanning for signs that something is wrong.

Feel better, and big hugs! It's ok to be nervous about this stuff. xxx

melissa112 · 29/09/2018 15:16

@wordsmithereens thank you for your kind reply. I definitely felt the pain as I was looking at my hair in the mirror to see how dry it was and got shocked by the burn then realised the hair dryer was pointing at my belly. It does get quite hot sometimes. I guess if it's just core temperature then I guess it's probably ok. I'm picturing all sorts, fluid heating up and burning baby, or the same sort of issue as a too hot bath causing all sorts of problems.

Yes I thought he was very unsympathetic which isn't like him so upset me more. We were supposed to nip to Mothercare this afternoon but I've lost the enthusiasm now. He's been so good so far but he's quite laid back and doesn't realise how hard it is to be so anxious especially when carrying something so precious. Thank you again xx

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 15:43

@melissa112, Yes, just reread your post, and it sounds like you did scald the skin, sorry for misreading. (I'd thought you meant internal pain.) But that would have been surface only, you're not like a bubbling pot in there, lots of layers of skin and fat and connective tissue and amniotic fluid to get through and keep little one safe. :)

No worries at all, had a bit of a moment like that with DH last night as well, he's usually good as gold but laid back as well. I think it's a journey for them as well if they want to be there but struggle to understand what the actual experience is like. I've found mine sometimes becomes hyper-rational when he's actually unsure of what to do. Hope the day settles down for you and you can find your way back together to each other, too. xxx

melissa112 · 29/09/2018 15:55

@wordsmithereens thank you so much. I just needed a bit of logical reassurance and not 'oh you're being stupid' or whatever he said. Thank you xx

myotherbagisgucci · 29/09/2018 16:42

Wow, number 6 already! You guys can talk! Lol xx

Kee80 · 29/09/2018 17:08

Just checking in.

Hope everyone's having a good Saturday!

Would do anything for a bottle of wine tonight haha

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/09/2018 17:39

@wordsmithereens might the midwife have actually been trying to protect you from not being able to find a heart beat?
I don't mean that there isn't one there, but at 18 weeks your baby could still be in your pelvis and therefore they wouldn't have been able to find the heartbeat (as their dopplers don't go through bone). She may have thought trying and failing would cause more worry as they wouldn't have sent you for a scan off that just had you back in a couple of weeks to try again.

Sometimes it's hard to understand why medical professionals say things but they are sometimes trying actually to protect us, even if it doesn't feel like it

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 18:01

@squirtlesmumagain, Yes, I did consider that may be a possibility and it's a good point, thanks for raising it. I think the fact that they easily identified the heartbeat not too long ago made that seem unlikely for me, but it's still possible of course, I'm not in their heads. Think the other thing for me is that, if there is that kind of reasoning, I usually take much better to people being completely upfront with me. People 'protecting' me, no matter how well-intentioned, has rarely worked out for me, because it usually relies on a lot of assumptions on what's going on for me which rarely matches reality (cause they're not in my head, either). It's not so much that I don't understand their reasons (or that there may be many varied, different ones!) as that I felt mine weren't being really seen and/or process overrode them.

Anyway, I do think primary midwife grasped it on an emotional level at least and was very validating, which is the important bit so I'll focus on that. :)

Jenlou1992 · 29/09/2018 18:03

Hi just wondered if anyone has been feeling breathless

I'm 16+1 and past week I have been really breathless . Even just walking from one room to another . I'm fit and healthy and have been fine throughout the pregnancy and I'm only petite . I have read online you can get breathless early on due to the blood volume and levels of hormones .

Just find it blizzare especially when I am barely showing . God help me in a couple of months . Got my 16 week check on Wednesday so will run it by the midwife too

wordsmithereens · 29/09/2018 18:16

@Jenlou1992, I was super breathless for a while, mostly when going up stairs. I just put it down to increased blood volume and it seems to have passed with time, although I still get out of breath more easily than before. I think staying active helped.

toastfiend · 29/09/2018 18:22

@Jenlou1992 I'm incredibly breathless at 18 weeks and have been throughout the pregnancy. It's frustrating but I'm assuming it's not abnormal. Midwife said if I felt breathless at rest then to go to the GP about it but otherwise not to be too concerned.

I'm getting appalling headache/migraine type things. They happen almost every day and are just hideous. I've had my blood pressure checked and all OK, but I'm finding them really debilitating.
