@badbadbeans The midwife running the antenatal class yesterday had a lovely metaphor. She described birth and birth plans like being this amazing road trip you plan to take to your favourite location - you've invited your favourite friends to come along, you've marked out all the great sight seeing spots along the way, got the super fancy hamper for a picnic. Then on the day, your car breaks down and the train isn't running either, instead there's a rail replacement bus service. You can't control those elements, but you can focus on the fact that you're still with your favourite person, you've got that hamper, and you'll reach your destination either way and that's ok - and definitely not down to a fault in your planning!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 14/10/2018 17:06

@Miami81 and everyone, thank you for your kind words. They are supposed to be doppler scanning the blood vessels at my 20 week scan (on 6th Nov). Then will be a wait until 29 weeks to see the consultant again (due a scan at 28 weeks roughly for growth too). Glad you are getting such good treatment after what happened to your daughter, I am so sorry for your loss.

Nice to see the 20 week scans starting to come through now. Congratulations to those finding out whether it is a boy or girl.

Shampooeeee · 14/10/2018 17:11

Welcome @Miami81 so sorry to hear about your previous loss but congratulations on your rainbow baby. It’s great that you are getting a lot of extra care this time around. Fingers crossed for a boring pregnancy.
@BadBadBeans I had to dash through an airport last week. I couldn’t run because I had DS on my back and a couple of bags. I was devastated when I got to the gate and found I’d missed my connection. I almost cried while they were rebooking us but I didn’t have any energy left!
Congrats on the girl @MistakenHoliday. It’s so sweet that your DD is excited. My DS keeps talking about when the baby comes out, he doesn’t understand how long we have to wait!
Good to see you back @Murphyrocks!
DH felt the baby move for the first time yesterday morning. He seemed a bit underwhelmed although the poor bugger was suffering from man flu so I suppose I should excuse his lacklustre reaction Hmm

Wineandchoccy · 14/10/2018 18:20

That is the perfect metaphor @wordsmithereens I wanted a waterbirth in a midwife led centre with little drugs ended up being induced and a forceps delivery in theatre with an epidural Grin

Checking in, it’s been a busy old time. How is everyone doing? I’m 16+1 now, exciting to see the 20 week scans coming through, I have another month til that point. Have a funny feeling I will have an April baby! This seems to be another in betweeny time - feeling good but no outward signs of baby. Think it’ll be a little while til I feel baby kick. Defo misconstrued digestive movement as fetal πŸ˜‚ anyway lovely to see everyones pregnancies progressing, can’t wait to see the babies come Feb, March and April!

ballanj · 14/10/2018 21:48

Evening everyone!

Welcome @Miami81 and other newbies ☺️

So my weekend has been rather varied....after a lovely meal at Miller and Carter on Thursday, me and the OH spent Friday night and early hours of Saturday morning tag teaming the bathroom with chronic diarrhoea. Luckily whatever it was only lasted 12 hours but wasn't pleasant. I would say mines probably down to hormones and the pregnancy but for the OH to be struck as well who knows! My diet hasn't been great so making a real effort to eat better this coming week as I reckon that's a lot to do with it.

Hoping for a symptom free week after the migraine and diarrhoea of this week! Less than two weeks until me and OH move in together, so exciting. Clearing out of spare room has begun in preparation for baby as well. Just a couple of weeks now until the 20 week scan. Lovely hearing all your stories of baby moving, still waiting for a definite sign from Hulk.

physicskate · 14/10/2018 22:06

Hi all! It was suggested I post on this thread to hopefully get some wisdom! I'm 19+2 and have had about 7/8 braxton hicks contractions today. Planning on calling the midwife for reassurance tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else at a similar stage has been noticing these too!!

I've taken it easy today but really hoping it doesn't carry on like this as they aren't comfortable!!

Any thoughts?? I'm a first timer and this is an ivf pregnancy... so this has made me a tad nervous today as it feels so early for this.

Wineandchoccy · 14/10/2018 22:17

Oh no what an awful way to spend the weekend @ballanj Sad Hope you feel better now.

Welcome @physicskate sorry I can’t help I didn’t get them until very late last time hopefully somebody may be able to help you, hope the midwife can help tomorrow try not to worry x

Angelmiracle · 15/10/2018 06:40

@physicskate all should be normal provided you aren't having more than 4 in an hour and they should not be painful. Pain might indicate an infection like uti or something. They're definitely uncomfortable. Drinking more water can help lessen them.

Have you felt first baby movements yet? Sometimes baby can be really pushing against you and they apparently have a growth spurt doubling in size from 16 weeks. I hope your midwife can reassure you x

OP posts:
physicskate · 15/10/2018 07:23

Thanks @Angelmiracle, that was a bit reassuring. They are definite tightening - my uterus goes rock hard. Not painful, just weird and not very pleasant.

I've been feeling flutters and now kicks since just before 16 weeks. Dh even felt kicks 'from the outside' at 18 weeks - very early for both, I know!!

Had two more last night - so not four an hour. I may be a tad dehydrated, so that was a great tip!!

@Wineandchoccy definitely will get in touch with my midwife today! Hopefully she can say they won't continue to be so bothersome!!!

Murphyrocks · 15/10/2018 07:23

Welcome @physicskate! I started the Braxton Hicks at 19 weeks too (now 20) but yours sound far more regular - are you drinking enough as dehydration can worsen them? I'm having at least 2 1/2 litres a day, often more! And yes do take it easy! I didn't have them anywhere near as early the first time around but this is my second. Do go see the midwife to put your mind at ease.

silvertongue · 15/10/2018 09:08

@sictransitgloria we're due date twins and my 20 week scan feels a long way off too! And I won't feel kicks for ages because I have an anterior placenta. I think mine will probably be an April baby too since it's my first I'm expecting it to be late!

Love your username btw I was a brand new fan back in the day.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 15/10/2018 09:16

I would just presume you'll be late because it's your first. My first came at 38 weeks, fully cooked!
In our last birth group the babies due in April came from Feb to May.

Murphyrocks · 15/10/2018 10:11

Just a quick update that all went well with the 20 week scan this morning, and we're team blue again! Going to be inundated with boys!

ladycarlotta · 15/10/2018 10:15

yay team blue @murphyrocks! That'll be lovely.

Mine's at 10.50 so stay tuned... maybe I'll even up the numbers, maybe it'll be another recruit for team blue. I'm feeling intensely anxious for some reason and had a bit of a cry just now which DP was very nice about.

Murphyrocks · 15/10/2018 10:19

@ladycarlotta totally normal, I was too nervous to eat this morning and felt nauseated for the first time in weeks. Just remember the vast majority of scans are normal. Keep us updated!

Miami81 · 15/10/2018 12:12

Congratulations @Murphyrocks that's lovely. Good luck @ladycarlotta and anyone else with scans coming up.
Ours isn't until 1st November which feels so long away.

wordsmithereens · 15/10/2018 12:32

@ladycarlotta Fingers crossed all went well with your scan. Good cry is definitely ok under the circumstances! Xxx

Angelmiracle · 15/10/2018 15:07

@Murphyrocks congratulations on your boy news! I'm sure your DS will be delighted.

DS is telling everyone he's getting a baby brother....it would maybe be better for his sake if it is!

Hope all is well today @ladycarlotta x

OP posts:
Murphyrocks · 15/10/2018 15:19

@Angelmiracle aww that's lovely! Both our boys had made requests for a little sister but unfortunately we have little control over that! I'm sure they'll love him just as much as they would have a sister.

Hope your news is good too @ladycarlotta xx

wordsmithereens · 15/10/2018 15:44

My niece was also very hopeful on Sunday that we would have a girl, "because I want to play with it". She may be a little disappointed either way initially, but managed to get an agreement that if it's a boy, I turn her (girly) T-shirt gift into a cushion for the baby instead.

melissa112 · 15/10/2018 17:16

@physicskate welcome! Hope the midwife gave you some reassurance today.

Congratulations on everyone who has had their 20 week scans, and glad all has gone well.

@Wineandchoccy really glad to hear you had some positive news at your scan! Hope the blood tests come back ok for you.

@Murphyrocks and @orangekitkat13 congratulations on your little boys, wonderful news πŸ’™

Good luck with those with scans coming up. @ladycarlotta hope your scan went well today.

@ballanj what an awful night you had over the weekend!glad things have calmed down for you, and hope you have an easy week!

Really been rubbish at catching up and seem to have missed loads since I lasted posted. I've had a rough few days where I've felt exhausted and breathless so just spent the time not at work in bed. Will try and catch up more tomorrow.

ladycarlotta · 15/10/2018 18:44

Thanks everybody for the lovely wishes! Scan was really nice - the baby absolutely refused to move an inch, except to curl up a bit tighter and cover its face a bit more, so the sonographer didn't get all the measurements she wanted, but what she did see she was happy with. And on the plus side, I get to go back for another next week.

We also found out the sex - WE ARE HAVING A GIRL! I'm gobsmacked, really thought I was team boy. It's sinking in now, and my little sister (9) is thrilled. It won't make much difference to us, and I'm already getting used to thinking of it as 'her', but I feel a little sad that after losing both my granddads this year I won't get to give their names to a boy. But that's really just grief being its usual weird self, so I'm not going to linger on it. They'd both love her so much regardless.
