Welcome @happyotter (great username by the way!) hope you feel better soon. That cold has been doing the rounds. Is it your first baby and what’s the due date? @angelmiracle can add you to our list. There’s also a Facebook group if you’re interested.

BadBadBeans · 12/10/2018 14:01

@Gronk27 Yes but since going fully freelance (previously paid NI through part-time teaching), my NI contributions have been a voluntary option - I think maybe because I've not earned an awful lot per year? So I could have chosen not to pay them, but then wouldn't be entitled to anything.

Once when I was 10 and getting worked up about a vaccination the whole school had to have - infants one day and juniors the next - my mum rang up the school, unbeknownst to me, and arranged for me to have the vaccination with the infants on the first day so that it literally was sprung on me! Total genius.

BadBadBeans · 12/10/2018 14:02

@Gronk27 Oh, and the HMRC lady said that when you do your 17-18 tax return, ring them after you've submitted it and explain that you are going on maternity leave in March and would like your NI contributions to be allocated early. This will apparently ensure the payment shows up in time.

Gronk27 · 12/10/2018 14:04

@badbadbeans I see! You can also voluntarily pay them to top them up apparently. But then they bang on about your earnings.

Genius! The worst ones are the dentist in your gum. I could honestly punch them.

Gronk27 · 12/10/2018 14:13

@badbadbeans Oh crossed posts! That's interesting because I want to start mine as early as poss so maybe I should get my tax return done early!

HappyOtter · 12/10/2018 14:18

Hi @Nightmanagerfan yes it is my first baby by IVF and I'm due 29 March and really excited. How many weeks are you? Is it your first too?

This cold is grim, sorry to hear it's been doing the rounds. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. I think I am SneezyOtter today!

I'd love to be added to the list and thanks for letting me know about the Facebook page I'll check it out.

ladycarlotta · 12/10/2018 14:48

@Gronk27 yep, I'm self employed too and can second what the others have said. Luckily I got my tax return done sharpish as I needed the accounts for this year to get a mortgage, I was planning to pay everything early but good tip from @badbadbeans to actually phone them up and tell them that... I hadn't thought of it!

Wineandchoccy · 12/10/2018 14:52

Hiya baby all ok, bowel still bright but no other markers so consultant is happy I will be having more checks and scans and have had blood tests to check for any infections but they think it’s just one of those things that will be ok.
A massive Thanks for all your lovely messages and support this week it has been very much appreciated love to you all Smile

SquirtlesMumAgain · 12/10/2018 15:02

So glad there are no other markers, but they are keeping an eye anyway @wineandchoccy. Been thinking about you all day :)

Wineandchoccy · 12/10/2018 15:04

Thanks @SquirtlesMumAgain 1st babies and pregnancy were easier weren’t they!! I don’t remember T and E being this much trouble Grin

wordsmithereens · 12/10/2018 15:07

Welcome @HappyOtter and congratulations on the pregnancy. Great to have you on board. Hope the cold gets better soon as well.

@wineandchoccy So glad to hear that baby seems to be doing well despite bowel still being bright. Will continue to keep fingers crossed for you and glad to hear they're taking good care of you.

Nightmanagerfan · 12/10/2018 15:20

@wineandchoccy I’m so pleased that has gone some way to putting your mind at rest. Hope you have a relaxing evening ahead.
@happyotter yes it’s my first too (variety on the thread with some who’ve done it before which is useful). I’m 39 so definitely a case of now or never. I’m due two days before you!

@Wineandchoccy thanks for letting us know how you got on. I am glad they are happy with baby and I hope all improves with each check up. I agree I realise what a lovely pregnancy I had with DS!

@HappyOtter congratulations to you and welcome to the thread! Due date buddies! I had the cold which resulted in a sinus infection. I had some Sinuforce by A.Vogel nasal spray which really helped it has chamomile and peppermint. Hope you feel better soon.

Hey @Angelmiracle thanks for adding me! Lovely to have a due date buddy. I really hope this cold doesn't turn into a sinus infection but if it does I'll definitely take your tip about the nasal spray.

@Nightmanagerfan congratulations on your first! I'm 42 so it was definitely last chance for me and I feel so lucky it worked, miracle baby.

So lovely to meet two mums due almost the same time as me 😊

ballanj · 12/10/2018 16:03

@Wineandchoccy so pleased to see your post. I bet you will sleep much easier tonight. Hope the power cut is sorted for you now aswell!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 12/10/2018 16:52

Definitely much easier the first time round. E & T obviously set the bar high!!!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 12/10/2018 16:53

Tag removed itself.... @wineandchoccy definitely easier the first times with E & T!

cardboard33 · 12/10/2018 19:04

Welcome to everyone who has recently joined! Smile it's so weird thinking that some people have already had their 20 week scans.

@wineandchoccy so happy for you!! And hope the power has come back on too.

@balanji same on the commute front. I should be ok as my home station is one of the first stops so I always get a seat, and then so far the Waterloo commuters have generally been receptive to my badge. It's just the tube bits where I might struggle but fortunately I only go a few stops.

Went to JL today to have a first "non internet" look at pushchairs. The shop staff found it really hard to put up/take down any, and also some of them kept going on about how easy they were to get in the car when we said so many times we don't have a car so didn't exactly sell them to us! Just really need to think about what we actually require as came away thinking that our faves from before don't fit our needs and have reassessed our spreadsheet this evening.

Wineandchoccy · 12/10/2018 19:17

@cardboard33 I remember John Lewis staff being hopeless when we were choosing a pram 4 years ago! It was almost funny to watch them keep trying Blush

Wineandchoccy · 12/10/2018 19:18

@HappyOtter welcome sorry I missed your post earlier x

HidCat · 12/10/2018 20:27

@TheWanderlust I'm trying to figure out what to wear to a Christening tomorrow, I'll have to make a judgement call an hour beforehand I think!

Welcome to the newcomers and I hope you're doing so far.
