@HelloPeopl3 welcome! I'm 16+6 with my second and have felt a few swirly feelings but that's all and nothing recently. Saw my midwife this morning and she said you should feel something by week 24 so loads of time yet for us both.

She found the heartbeat really easily so I'm feeling much happier today. Also despite my stressy week at work with the risk of redundancy my blood pressure was fine, so thats a relief.

HelloPeopl3 · 11/10/2018 14:05

@Jenfur I'm trying my best to be patient. I'm the least patient person in the world however. Although the upper abdominal pains I'm getting I'm sure is how she is positioned. As it only every couple of days.

I've only seen a midwife once (booking in app) don't see ome again until 24weeks. So I've only heard baby's heartbeat when I went for my private scans. I've also got a heartbeat bear which has her heartbeat recorded into it.. It's so cute.

Have you found out baby gender yet? X

wordsmithereens · 11/10/2018 14:11

@toastfiend Sorry to hear about the panic attack, they're no fun and can make you feel so vulnerable. You will know best whether a break would do you good or stress you further. Do you feel you can talk to someone at work?

@badbadbeans Hurrah, great news! I need to start looking into the process for applying for maternity allowance as well. You still need the matb1 form from your midwife that usually goes to employer, right? Anybody know when that is usually handed out?

Bluebelltulip · 11/10/2018 14:23

You can get your matb1 form after 20 weeks either at your next appointment or ring up to ask for it earlier.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/10/2018 15:11

Hi @HelloPeopl3. I wouldn't worry about not feeling baby yet. I've just got back from my 16 week appointment (I'm 16+3) and she listened to baby's heartbeat, it kicked her doppler but I didn't feel a thing! She said it's very normal not to feel baby move until 24/25 weeks with your first and can even be longer if you're especially toned or a bit overweight.
I still don't feel pregnant and every time I have an appointment/scan I'm prepared for them to tell me there's nothing there.
I spoke to her about my faintness and headache and she's taken some blood to see if my iron levels are low.
She's asked me when I plan to start maternity leave and I have no idea! When is everyone else planning on starting?

wordsmithereens · 11/10/2018 15:47

Thanks @bluebelltulip!

Bluebelltulip · 11/10/2018 15:49

AssumeItWasSomethingClever I stopped work at 35 weeks last time but I also had my wedding so wanted to be able to rest. Definitely understand your dress worries, I had bought the dress before I knew I was pregnant which did cause a panic. This time my PhD finishes in 6 weeks so I guess I'm finishing at 23weeks but I'll then be switching to looking after my toddler.

Velcro88 · 11/10/2018 16:46

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've been looking at my organisation's mat leave forms this afternoon actually! I'm thinking to go at 37 weeks (with mat leave to technically start a week later, given I'll have annual leave to tack on). I'm worried this will feel like a slog given I'm not in love with the job, but I also feel like my due date is too early so I'm likely to be waiting a while for baby to show up!

Angelmiracle · 11/10/2018 16:58

@HelloPeopl3 welcome to the thread. As PP said do not worry that you can't feel anything. It's usually so subtle you barely notice! I felt DS at 18 weeks but only realised it was him at 20 weeks.

That's great @Badbadbeans I really need to work things out. We lived at my parents with DS so very lucky could take the 12 months with him- 4 weeks A/L.

I stopped at 37 weeks with DS was aiming for 38 but lack of sleep and difficulty moving changed things plus I was 7 days over with him.

I'm stopping at 36 weeks this time using 4 weeks A/L with due date as maternity start date. Luckily our leave allowance refreshes in February.

Thanks @wordsmithereens My line manager happened to phone this morning! Just to check in and ask how yesterday went. Well he was so nice!! He disagreed with a lot of comments OH had made and said I'm sure you doctor can advise you better when you're ready for work! I told him I was pregnant plus had anxiety and came off antidepressants. He was lovely said don't get stressed about OH see GP next week and give him a call. I said I'm higher risk this time and he said they've went through it with his daughter who was bed bound for 7 months of her pregnancy! In comparison to yesterday he reassured me and I felt more supported! Hopefully I sleep better tonight.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 11/10/2018 17:22

Great news on the line manager @Angelmiracle - sounds really positive!

I stopped at just under 37 weeks last time (it was Easter so stopped Maundy Thursday and was 37 weeks on Good Friday) and I went into labour the following Friday, so had barely any pre-baby mat leave. I still regret the having no chance to rest at that point, but obviously had he gone overdue I could have had 5 weeks.

No mat leave this time, DS is a hard core boss!

melissa112 · 11/10/2018 17:30

@Angelmiracle I'm so glad your call with your line manager went well and I hope it has eased your anxiety somewhat. All sounds good!

I'm hoping (but line manager and her manager are taking their time deciding as they haven't arranged any cover yet) to start maternity on actual due date but I have 24 days holiday to use so hoping to use them all and finish on 8th Feb at 35 weeks. I know it's a while off but I do like knowing what my plans are ahead so hope they make a decision soon.

Angelmiracle · 11/10/2018 17:31

@SquirtlesMumAgain thank you!

Haha I was wondering if I should keep the childminder on for DS after school a few weeks when dc2 gets here but it's just more money!

melissa112 · 11/10/2018 17:32

@HelloPeopl3 I'm 18 weeks today with my first and also haven't felt anything that I could definitely say is the baby. I sometimes feel something But it's always when I've half dropped off to sleep so I may just be imagining it! My midwife also said it could be around 24weeks too. Hoping it's not that long, but trying not to worry. Hope time goes quickly for you to the next scan.

Angelmiracle · 11/10/2018 17:33

Thanks @melissa112 That sounds like a good plan. I hope they approve your request! I like knowing too.

Wineandchoccy · 11/10/2018 18:16

I didn’t feel anything until about 22 weeks last time this time I felt movement a lot earlier but probably only because I remember what it feels like.

wordsmithereens · 11/10/2018 18:30

@angelmiracle So glad your line manager sounds so supportive and human, I'm sure it must be a huge reassurance. Hope you can work out a good plan together that'll ease you back into things.

Angelmiracle · 11/10/2018 19:34

Thanks @wordsmithereens I am now starting to feel better about returning!

good luck, @wineandchoccy, that's a blessing you won't have to wait around all day for it. Really hoping it turns out to be nothing serious xx

Gronk27 · 11/10/2018 22:44

@badbadbeans I've never liked needles and then my last but one blood test before I was pregnant she really butchered me and I passed out. Made me more nervous but like you say got to be brave and do it for bump and it's never as bad as I build it up to be. That's interesting about the MA is that because they assume if you're earning enough to pay you NI then you'll qualify? Why go through all that mad qualification stuff in the first place! I'm waiting on my MATB after my 20 week scan and then hopefully I can get it sorted.

I plan to start my MA as soon as possible. I'm more employable not very pregnant so I reckon if I use it in January when my work dies a death anyway then I can start working more when baby is here and sooner. My work is sporadic anyway so not like the full time ladies. Hoping to get 10 well paid 'keeping in touch' days too!

I've felt a couple of flutters that I think must be the baby. Never felt anything like it before.

I too am very worried about weight gain, although it's normal and I'm hungry a lot!! I lost nearly theee stone a few years ago and managed to stay a size 12 since. I really don't want to end up on a slippery slope. I am active though.

Anyone else feeling frumpy? I feel odd, knowing that people can tell I'm pregnant now, recently started rocking a bob and maternity clothes are uninspiring. Never mind when I'm actually in the mood to make any effort with my appearance!
