@PassTheAfterEights I'm good thanks. Sickness has all but gone, bump is more visible and I'm feeling some movements now. Got my 20week scan in 2 weeks! And I've just sneezed and wee came out πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

@TheWanderlust I'm glad everything is ok for you. Must have been quite a worry there.

@LittleKitty1985 yup, baby brain very much on board here!

Just a heads up ladies there could be anti-coagulant injections post birth too! I had daily injections (self administered) for 6weeks after DS and anticipate a repeat this time around.

Angelmiracle · 10/10/2018 21:32

@ladycarlotta yeah definitely felt like a test. Perhaps they have to be that way for people who work the system but empathy really goes a long way. All she knew of me was my age and what was on my sick line!

@Squirtlesmumagain I'm usually a push over I'm glad I spoke up because my anxiety would have escalated going back full time. I'm sorry you are feeling so sick still. Did you get anti sickness meds? Don't worry my DS getting snapped at too but they forgive very quickly so don't beat yourself up too much.

Thanks @MsLioness I hope phased return helps me adapt to a new routine because I wasn't coping very well working full time before I went off. Between homework cooking dinner and doing lunches that occupies me from 2pm atm how do I fit it all in coming home at 6.30pm!

So many of us finding our pregnancies tough!

OP posts:
ballanj · 10/10/2018 21:38

@MsLioness yes you sound similar to me, I too haven't suffered with morning sickness so feel incredibly lucky in that sense. Especially hearing how so many of us on here are really going through the mill with that or other issues with their health or pregnancies generally. Don't get me wrong I feel so blessed but just as I think 'oh I feel good' something else will crop up and I'll be 'urgh'.

I've also been hitting eBay for maternity clothes. Not maternity wear per se, but found a gorgeous grey waterfall cardigan from mint velvet that I managed to win for Β£30. eBay could be a bit dangerous for me I reckon lol.

Angelmiracle · 10/10/2018 21:39

Me too @HidCat I had forgotten about those until recently. You had them for a long time! I had them just over a week. I think Clexane into the stomach. They showed me how to administer myself before we left hospital but had them the 4 days we were in matrnity given by midwife. Then had 5 visits from midwife to the house and she done them all for me. I was terrified to do something wrong!!

How many days after you are discharged do they call out to the house now? Has it changed from 5 days?

OP posts:
Wineandchoccy · 10/10/2018 22:11

@HidCat blimey you had them for a long time I think I had them for about 10 days.

My Mum has just had her hip replacement and is having them for 6 weeks they have sent her home with the largest sharps tub I have ever seen Grin

Velcro88 · 10/10/2018 22:38

Hi @cardboard33 @LittleKitty1985 just wanted to chip in re the itchiness- I think if you're getting it particularly on your feet or hands that can be (but not always!) a symptom of cholestasis, so might be worth a checking in with your midwife just in case?

Nightmanagerfan · 10/10/2018 22:42

@ballanj you have me to blame for the eBay extravaganza... it’s such a cheap way of getting good stuff.

I’m struggling a bit with getting bigger, without equating it with being fat... I have always been a tall size 10/12 and not had to worry much about my weight but now I feel enormous. I think it might partly be due to not quite having enough maternity wear yet so lots of things I put on are far too small.

Also does anyone have good maternity pyjamas recommendations? I got these brilliant bottoms but would prefer a different colour: www.marksandspencer.com/maternity-cuffed-hem-pyjama-bottoms/p/p60150508?image=SD_02_T37_1309P_T4_X_EC_90&color=GREYMIX&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

orangekitkat13 · 10/10/2018 23:24

@HidCat I'm glad that's not just me! Didn't think we had to worry about that till after the baby had arrived!

wordsmithereens · 10/10/2018 23:35

@angelmiracle Well done on making it through what sounds like a challenging conversation and standing up for yourself. Was your sick line just the vertigo then? Also pleased you can have your face to face conversation with your manager without too much fuss. I hope it goes well and is maybe a bit less... disconnected.

BadBadBeans · 11/10/2018 07:20

@Gronk27 I am a notorious fainter where needles and blood are concerned. I once threw up in a pub just because someone was talking about needles. I was shit scared of how many blood tests and injections pregnancy would involve, and was deeply deeply afraid of the possibility of a C section.

With DS I requested to lie down for all injections and blood tests. I also talked determinedly at them about something else throughout.Or told them I was sorry but I was going to have to recite a poem to distract myself! (Weird but effective.) I was polite but firm about it and mostly received understanding from the nurses - I only had one who told me I would have to get over it if I was having a child! I also brought fruit juice and a snack with me to appointments in case I got light headed.

I did end up having an emergency c section with a spinal, and I was absolutely fine. I used hypnobirthing to help me stay calm but I truly did not care too much by that point. My biggest worry is that I had the shakes from all the hormones and I was scared I would shake when the needle went in, but I told them I was worried about that and they reassured me.

Like @HidCat I had to have daily injections after the birth, and this came as a complete surprise and I did cry when the nurse arrived at my bed with the first one! Mine were only for a week and I was in hospital 5 days so I only had two to do myself, and DH did those. I just lay down for them.

Funnily enough I think this time round the recent exposure to a lot of needles has made me a bit better. I know I didn't faint once with anything for DS and that gives me courage! When I had the flu jab last week I had it sitting up. You will be okay xxx

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/10/2018 08:17

I've woken up today with the headache that hasn't shifted for three days. Just want to crawl back in bed. Got an appointment with my midwife today so I'm going to mention it along with the faintness.
I've also bought some maternity jeans. Oh. My. God. They are literally the comfiest things I've ever worn!
We had a massive, greasy pizza for dinner yesterday and I feel really guilty about eating a load of crap recently. My wedding is also in 2 weeks time and the dress fits perfectly at the moment so I need to try to do better!!

ballanj · 11/10/2018 08:24

@Nightmanagerfan yeah I'm the same with the weight thing aswell. I lost nearly 3 stone around 8 years ago and have maintained my weight pretty much since then, so to see myself get bigger is actually quite hard to get my head around! I know I shouldn't worry about weight, but being a short size 8/10 I feel massive already. I know I'm not, I've only gained half a stone and I'm 18 weeks pregnant. I'm looking forward to expanding my maternity wardrobe as I'm still winging it somewhat with clothes that I've not completely outgrown yet.

cardboard33 · 11/10/2018 08:29

@velcro88 thanks... I'll ask at my appointment on Friday. I doubt it is because it looks like it's quite rare from what Google tells me, although someone has to have it!!

In terms of injections... I think it's just the sort of thing that the more you have the more you get used to it and it becomes less of a deal. Before I found out about my brain tumour I'd never even had a blood test and the only injections I'd had were vaccines but in the 3 years since I've just had to deal with people prodding at me all of the time so it's become second nature now. I help the nurses out as I'm usually very difficult to take blood from unless they get it exactly in the right place. Ultimately they're giving you injections/needles etc as they want to help you and whilst it's unpleasant the benefits (in my eyes) out weigh any negatives.

ballanj · 11/10/2018 08:45

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever sorry you're suffering with headaches aswell. It's a symptom I've been having I hadn't banked on. I find sometimes caffeine helps and if they get really bad, do take some paracetamol which is perfectly safe to use every now and then.

I had Pizza Hut for dinner last night and was a bit too spicy for Hulk and was therefore on the loo at 3:30 and 4:30 this morning. Sorry for tmi!

How exciting to be getting married soon! No doubt your dress will fit just fine and you'll look lovely on the day. Double celebration!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/10/2018 09:01

@ballanj it's horrible isn't it! Mines more of a fog headache than a painful one. I didn't realise you'd get them to this extent either.

I love that you call LO hulk. πŸ˜‚

Thank you. I'm really looking forward to it. I bought the dress last September and lost just under 2 stone since then. I've only put a pound on during pregnancy so far but definitely put on the inches I'd lost from my stomach. This is going to sound ridiculous but I don't feel like I can enjoy my pregnancy until the wedding is out of the way and I can fit in my dress. I know it's just a dress but the closer it gets the more I'm panicking that I'll be getting married in my PJ's!

TheWanderlust · 11/10/2018 09:11

@ballanj sorry to jump on your earlier post,, I've gained 5-7lb too and used to be an 8/10 - feel quite reassured now because yesterday I had a flap that I'd gained too much weight already (I'm 19w), got a feeling I'll end up gaining nearer the top end of the recommended unless it starts to slow down a little.

ballanj · 11/10/2018 09:29

@TheWanderlust oh believe me I'm flapping on the inside πŸ˜‚ I'll be honest my diet hasn't been great the last couple of months but I'm still exercising so trying to cut myself some slack. I used to retain a lot of water when I was due on so wouldn't be surprised if a lot of my weight gain is mainly fluid. I keep telling myself surely I'm saving calories from the lack of alcohol compared to what I used to drink!

ballanj · 11/10/2018 09:31

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I'm envious you've only gained a pound in your pregnancy so far that's good going! I bet you'll be just fine come your wedding day. I get what you mean though, I'm sure you'll feel you can enjoy it all even more once it's over. But do make sure you enjoy the big day!

Nightmanagerfan · 11/10/2018 09:44

@assumeitwassomethingclever congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Very exciting. Hope you are able to relax in the run up!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 11/10/2018 10:22

I have definitely gained weight and been eating rubbish, but it is the only thing I can keep down really (most of the time!)

I have such a weird bump, the top half of my stomach is like it was when DS was born almost and solid, but the bottom half hasn't really formed into a bump yet.

HelloPeopl3 · 11/10/2018 13:06

Hi all.. I'm due on my little girl on 13th March. My first baby and I'm so excited.

Hope you are all having as wonderful of a pregnancy as possible Flowers

Just wondering if anyone is still in the same boat as me and still not felt any movement what so ever ? My anxiety is through the roof as everyone I've spoken to has felt baby move from 15+ .. I'm currently 18+1
Tia x

Velcro88 · 11/10/2018 13:11

Welcome @HelloPeopl3! Please don't worry about not feeling movement - I'm 20 weeks now and not felt anything yet - and it could even be another few weeks before I do! Don't get me wrong; I got very worried before my scan so I know the anxiety! But it's not a sign that anything is wrong :)

toastfiend · 11/10/2018 13:13

I've gained around 4-5lbs so far and am 19+5. Trying not to flap about it, but I struggled a lot with body image before being pregnant so I'm wearing a lot of baggy jumpers now. I'm conscious of not gaining too much as I was classed as overweight BMI pre-pregnancy (although a size 12 and 5ft6) so I was trying to lose weight before getting pregnant and would like to avoid giving myself a Herculean task of dieting once bump is born!

Sorry for all those struggling with anxiety further back in the thread. I ended up having a panic attack at work the other day (mortifyingly) and have been to the GP in the end as I'm feeling increasingly overwhelmed. They've offered to sign me off work for a bit to recharge as I'm sleeping very badly at the moment and have had a manic few weeks at work with lots of long hours. I'm reluctant to be signed off but I also feel quite overwhelmed and I know it's not going to improve until I can take the pressure off a bit. I'm hoping once I have my 20 week scan the scanxiety will go, all being well.

Hope everyone is doing OK, I'm not fully up to date on the thread so I'm going to go and read back now!

BadBadBeans · 11/10/2018 13:37

I don't know how much I've gained and I don't want to get on the scales, so I'm not going to! I'm normally a small-busted, small-waisted size 8, but right now I'm all tummy and boobs. And maybe a bit of bum too, seeing as my knickers are a leetle snug these days! I had no bump at this point with DS so I am feeling a little horrified at the rapidity of the expansion! I will feel much better about it when the bump hardens off a bit and I can feel the baby moving though. At the moment I do just feel rather flumpy. Can empathise with those worrying. Honestly though, I was back to fairly normal (ish) 4 - 6 months after having DS. And I was 31, so not exactly a spring chicken. Breastfeeding helped!

@toastfiend well done for seeing the GP - sounds like you really needed to give yourself some care.

After a sweaty hour number crunching trying to work out whether or not I can get enough freelance work in so that 90% of my average weekly earnings hits the standard MA level of weekly pay (I had a bit of a work break earlier this year, so 90% of my average earnings is only going to be about Β£100 by March) I've just had a WONDERFUL conversation with HMRC who have informed me that as I am self-employed and will have paid my voluntary NICs, I get the maximum Β£145.18 a week automatically. WOO FREAKING HOO! And relax...

HelloPeopl3 · 11/10/2018 13:37

@Velcro88 It's one of the things that's got me worked up. Reading about people who feel movement so early on, I also feel like when I can feel her it will all feel abit more real if that makes sense.

I've got my scan next Friday so will definitely feel better after that. I think with me getting pains & aches in my upper abdomen & sides it's just making me that little bit more anxious. X
